Any Ex Nexus users?

I have a Nexus and love it! Debating on the HD2, even maybe keeping it as a secondary phone is it worth it? Or do you find yourself missing your Nexus?

missing it since day 1 with the HD2 keep the For at least a week and don't use you N1 and you will endup going back to it I'LL BET YOU ANYTHING!!! YOU WILL

had both nexus & hd2. was a tough decision. they both had their pros and cons. in the end i sold the nexus. what sold me on the hd2 was the hw. its simply a beautiful/fun phone. dont get me wrong, the nexus is awesome. i actually prefer android over wm but in the end it wasnt enough.
the one thing i still miss is all the apps from the android market. while imo alot of apps were "novelty" apps and not really useful to me, there was always an app that did what i needed it to do.
i believe the stock hd2 rom is "clunky" for lack of a better term. some of the cooked roms really make the ui fluid. right now preferring kumars

I think a lot of people went back to their N1 because of the simplicity of android and the apps and updates that are released to fix the bugs unlike for the HD2 and please no one mention cooked roms. As most people dont know how too install the ROMS....

I don't own either but played with both while trying to decide which I want. I have a G1 now and REALLY wanted a Nexus but I am on a family plan and Google has made getting the Nexus too difficult. I talked to the CSRs at TMo and even work arounds will be a giant pain because the plan we're on is a 'grandfathered' plan that isn't available anymore so as long as we don't change it we keep it.
I like the Android OS, I like knowing it will continue to be updated with new and improved releases. While most of the apps in the Market are crap there are a few I do use frequently and best of all 95% of those I use are free.
Sadly if I shelled out $500 for this phone my wife would castrate me.... as much as I want the Nexus I don't want to pay an arm, a leg and.... uhhhh... well, don't like the phone that much.
HD2 is a beautiful phone and I looked at the ROMs and would definitely flash one over the stock ROM. I had 2 WM phones and I do have fun tweaking it, setting it up only to do it all again when I flash something else but there were sooooo many things I hated about WM and I can't remember all the apps I used to use. There was one app that changed a setting and actually killed the app when I closed it rather than move it to the background where I had to go into task manager to kill it. Also have an issue knowing this is on an old and notoriously quirky kernel while only the UI has been updated. Essentially a dead OS that will receive very little in updates.... basically what we have now is pretty much it and up to the creative DEVs here to keep us going. How many more apps will be updated or created with WP7 coming out later this year and all the iphone 1.0/2.0 like features along with it?
Ultimately I think I may end up getting the HD2 and dealing with WM for a while until TMo gets a high end Android phone (Rumor about a Samsung Galaxy also going to TMo). After all the HD2 is amazing piece of hardware and I'll just have to deal with the shame of WM.

Well think it it this way how much would you save in the long run? Because any smartphone you get with a contract you have to add the 29.99 for 2 years times by 24= 700+ So i buy a phone outright and keep my Tzones save so much money in the long run. Also T-mobile Android phones boughtout right or not they do not work with Tzones you will have to switch. Nexus is the only android phone i know of that works with Tzones since its not T-mobile branded.

While it's probably true that (statistically speaking) most people do not know how to install cooked ROMs, it does make the HD2 a far better phone to use, and I consider it a critical part of the decision to purchase.
Most people who own a car do not know how to change the oil, but it still needs to be done. Most people who own a guitar do not know how to tune it, etc, etc.
it's an unfair limitation to suggest that the availability of cooked ROMs should not be factored into the decision making process, IMO.

How many people know outside of XDA what a ROM is? Seriously T-mobile should of dont more testing with this device before they sent it out with this buggy rom. I like this device a lot amazing hardware but hate the little bugs like when it jumps from E-3G and now my device freezes a lot. If i didnt buy this new from ebay i would of returned it and prob gone for the N1. And even the N1 has issues but atleast they sent out update to fix them. I wonder whats taking T-mobile so long? and since WP7 is around the corner i doubt an updates will be given if any at all..

I guess I am different from most people, in that when I decide to make ANY purchase over a certain amount of dollars, I'll research literally everything I can about the product for a considerable amount of time (depending on the cost) before buying it. The fact that everyone doesn't do this is partly to blame for the problems encountered by most users.
Many people go crazy and install everything they see from any source on their phone, and it acts funny... understandably so.
I'd definitely agree that HTC could and should have done a better job with some aspects of the stock ROM, but this is true of any phone manufacturer, and HTC is better than many others in this regard.

I ended up keeping the HD2 bcuz im hoping for an android rom. the hardware made me keep it. its really beautiful but android is much much better than windows mobile i miss android. I had to install a rom just to enjoy the HD2 if you don't know how to install roms i would suggest you learn if you plan on owning this phone. If not go for a nexus one.

it depends on what you want out of your phone.
you'd have to root the nexus one to save apps to sd card. while on the hd2, it already has apps 2 sd capability.
customization is actually higher on the hd2, but it takes A LOT more work. i find it much easier mod the stock android os BEFORE rooting. pick your poison.
in terms of hardware, the nexus one actually has a brighter screen due to AMOLED display while of course, the hd2 screen is a monster in terms of size vs. the n1.
if you really really are in love the android OS and want the screen size of the hd2, why not move over to sprint and get the htc EVO? almost the same hardware specs except the evo is actually better equipped with a front facing camera, hdmi input, etc..

Same here i'm waiting for an Android ROM, i hope its out during the summer or maybe when the EVO comes out it can speed up the process. But the hardware is amazing just wished there weren't so many issues with it..
Anyone if T-mobile or HTC release an software update or are making one?

I kept the Nexus anyway and just use it on the spare line.

I work for T-Mobile so I'm limited to T-Mobile phones, I would NEVER switch to Sprint no matter what phone they got. I use to have them and work for them and not a fan at all. I think i'm going to keep the Nexus One and wait for the Galaxy S. Thanks for the input, and yes my Nexus is rooted so flashing a HD2 shouldn't be to hard. IS there much of a difference rooting Android compared to Windows?

thinking on getting a tmo hd2 tomorrow?

Im really looking to get one these bad boys tomorrow,Im coming from a g1 and im a little nervous about leaving android to go with windows again. The last windows phone i had was the tmo wing,i loved it at the time but it was a little frustrating having to keep on flashing new roms to stay updated and happy,plus I havent flashed anything since then so Im pretty much a noob at flashing again. I've read a couple of posts that other people posted on leaving android and its pretty much 40% in favor and the rest regretting it. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

it all comes down to whether or not you can deal with pretty sh*tty battery life and without tons and tons of apps... If you want apps, you DONT want WM...
but the phone is extremely cool and EXTREMELY customizable... if you want this phone and apps, then you can either wait for the android port which is gonna take awhile from my understanding or you can wait for the EVO 4g that comes out this summer for sprint.. which is basically this phone with a 8MP (and 720p video recording) camera and android os..
I just got my HD2 but I might trade it in when that sumb*tch is released

Phone has horrendous stability issues.

Most issues come with the stock rom. Flashing (this is my first WM phone and I would consider it easy) to a more stable ROM here that can be found in these forums, helps get rid of a lot of the instability. For most, you sort of have to go through a lot to get the phone to actually act like a phone.

Thanks for the help guys,i really dont want too deal with any more battery issues with a new phone, i had enough battery issues with the g1 so thanks for telling me that cause thats pretty much a deal breaker for me. AS for the evo 4g,i was eyeing that but its for sprint and unless i pay $800 for an unlocked one i dont i will get it as i have tmobile. Another alternative i was thinking on is the nexus one,i spoke to a tmobile rep today and he said he has the hd2 and its siiting on a windowceil somewhere in his house and he claims the nexus one is the best phone out now. what are you guys thoughts on that.

Don't let a few people stray you away from picking up a good phone.
1. You are supposed to condition the battery for peak performance. Drain it completely. Turn it off. Charge it up to 100%. Turn it on and use it until its drained completely again. Repeat process. Unless there is something wrong with your battery, this will give you good longevity.
2. A custom ROM solves 90% of the problems people have with this phone. I didn't have any problems with mine on the stock ROM, but it works much faster and better on the custom one.
3. I came from the G1 and MyTouch and have not looked back even once. Sure there are more PUBLICALLY available apps. The customization ability and apps out there for WM is HUGE. You just have to look for them and do a little digging. They aren't right there in front of you spoonfed like Android does.
4. If you can flash a Wing, you can easily flash the HD2. It's ridiculously easy in comparison to other phones I have flashed/rooted. This forum is one of the best to show you what to do and how to do it. It makes it almost impossible to mess anything up.
My phone can and does last several days on a charge now that I have it conditioned and on the custom ROM. Go to the store, use the phone, and play around with it.
You will not be disappointed if you take the time to learn the phone and don't expect it to just work and be perfect out of the box. WM is not that way. Just like you can't expect your computer to be just how you want it out of the box, the same applies here. It takes some customization, some work, and some trial and error to make it do what you want.

tj05fx4 thanks for the well thought out response, after reading yours and a couple of other posts i'm most likely gonnna get it as there looks like there wont be another good phone coming out for tmobile anytime soon I might as well get this one. Hopefully i wont miss android too much but then again there's talk about an android port in the future(I still dont know 100% how that will work) but i'll look forward to it

ive been looking into this phone as well...just keep your old android phone (for me its a MT3G) and keep flashing roms to it thatway its alwasy updated

My HD2 battery was scary the first week also.
Now it totally beats the G1 battery to death
Now if I have it on constantly, and I mean constant, then it only lasts about 5 or 6 hours. But under normal use I can forget to charge it overnight and still mae it through the next day.
There was NO WAY my G1 could ever do that.
I bought 3 batteries for my G1 (one was a 2200mha) and needed them.
I ordered one for my HD2 and now think I should have saved my money.
Not sure what "stability issues" the guy is talking about. Only problem I ever had was the music player would stop playing for a second when my outlook was syncing.
Moving from stock rom fixed that.
The HD2 is the fastest, nicest and most customizable phone on the market. Don't let the negative people get you down.
They don't know how to use their phone because the came from another O/S (which I did too) or they have a broken phone. It works great.

Stability issues
A glance at the forums will answer the myriad problems with "stability;" I can say that using the phone for its intended and advertised purposes causes it to lock up, or sometimes just get very slow and jittery, period.
I DO know how to use my phone. I've been on windows mobile since winmo5 and on this forum since 2007.
This phone is not fit for its intended purpose and is half baked. It is the "emperors new phone" to mix a metaphor.
However I've not returned mine as I have hope that these issues can be resolved, but, I've had to waste a ton of time already with this thing.
Maybe mine is faulty, but a quick review of the forums will show that many must be also. In any event anyone buying this phone should be well warned that it will be a vortex of lost time and considerable frustration to get it to work anywhere near as advertised.

I've had my HD2 since release day and have only experienced the lagging/freezing issue once, and that was early on when I inadvertently used the HTC/Sense Messaging application that comes with the HD2. That application is the bane of this phone. I don't text a lot, so I rarely used it, but if you send and receive a decent amount of text messages and you use this app, you are definitely going to experience lagging/freezing.
I found a post in the forums here to disable the HTC/Sense Messaging app and use the standard WinMo messaging app and have had ZERO issues with the phone ever since. I've also flashed to a number of Kumar's cooked ROMs with ZERO issues.
IMHO, the majority of the "stability" issues people talk about are related to that damned HTC/Sense Messaging app because without using it, my phone runs perfectly. Once in a while, I'll download an app that is poorly written and cause the device to act up, but a simple uninstall fixes it right away and I stay away from that app.
That said, only you can determine if you want to do the things you need to do to get the phone singing the way you want it to. Only you can determine if you absolutely have to have the thousands of useless apps that the Droid market has or if the apps on OMarket, MS Marketplace, Handango, etc. are enough.
This phone is an absolute keeper for me.

The only thing that bothers me is the 3G signal from TMOUSA. I will get out of that soon, but other than that this phone is not bad at all. Nice in-call volume, wifi-n (when enabled via reg tweak), 5 mp camera, and a big a$$ screen with WVGA resolution (plus a 16 gb card)...
The only time I experienced instability was when I flashed to NRG's rom. Stock works surprisingly well though (although, if I could remove most of the preloaded demos, it would be better)...
I am still in my remorse period but might just keep it after all

Having problems with your T-mobile HD2? Let HTC & T-mobile know!

Like a lot of people on the forum, their HD2 has caused them a lot of headaches and problems. After waiting patiently from the Euro launch of this phone, my anticipation for this phone was at all time high, more so when I got my 2G iPhone. After I got it, lots of problems like phone slowdown, lag, freezing, SMS/Message App slowdown, lag and freezing. Weather tab freezing, Music player slowdown or skipping (.mp3 skip? What? lol). Data stop working, disconnecting or won't auto connect. Camera lag or slowdown, Email problems, delete email but they come back, or can't send emails. Sleep/Lock of death, phone won't wake up. Phone resets it's self on it's own and I can go on, lol.
I've done everything people have told me do here. I've kill all task, soft reset, hard reset 5x, taken the battery out, taken the memory card out etc. The only thing I haven't done (and will not do) is flash my ROM. The one thing I notice is, if I run "Today" instead of "Sense UI" the phone works fine, so that means Sense UI is buggy. I've contacted T-mobile and HTC, most recently HTC, I've talk to three different people and finally we are getting somewhere.

There are many factors that go into finalizing an update between T-Mobile and HTC, so it may feel like it is taking a while. Members, please, contact HTC by using this link HTC Customer Service, fill out the quick information and send it, and PRESS THE ISSUE that your phone is having terrible problems. I have link them to this forum and they are READING the threads here but it's more apparent if you keep contacting them, get the message out so they can get an update out ASAP.

are we really having this much trouble with our phones? I mean I understand that sense ui is laggy at times.. but if I remember to kill all my running tasks, its not that bad..
I have had a big problem with 3g connectivity but im not tech in a 3g area... but I go from h to 3g to g in the same spots my g1 has 3g.. I called and told tmo..
I mean granted this isn't a rooted android device but this is a good wm phone.. nearly everything I expected...

Why not?
There are roms that are nearly identical to stock, with just bug-fixes--which seems exactly like what you want.

That's overkill. If I had to do all of that to my phone. I would have gotten rid of it already. The only real problem I had was my phone would not stay on 3G and my wifes phone is always on it.
I'm getting a replacement though.

It voids your warranty and if you for some odd reason when you wake up some day within the next year and your phone doesn't turn on, and you send it back for a new one, and they find that you have a custom ROM on it, you'll have to pay full price for a new one. It's simply not worth it in my eyes to put on a custom ROM that voids the warranty of a 550 dollar phone to see Sense UI move a little bit smoother.

No ones going to do anything if you dont complain, they'll just say that they dont have records of complaints and its not a known issue. so they cant do anything about it.

The only real problems I have with tmobile is their bad coverage areas and even though they have bad coverage areas, their coverage areas are exaggerated. It says I should have web coverage in my area, but when I try to place an order for a plan they tell me that cant do it because there is no service in my area. That and I could only half hear the person on the phone because I could hear a bunch of idiots in the back ground not doing their jobs and some god awful singing. And I have to order a new sim card because they said that my sim number must have been an accidentaly reissued number because its already in use.

I don't know why anyone who's apprehensive to flashing ROMS is even here.
No offense, but this whole forum is built around flashing ROMS. It's one thing if you don't want to go that route, but getting on your high-horse and telling people its a bad idea to flash roms because it voids your warranty is a little much.
Most of the people here understand the risks involved with flashing roms, and anyone who really knows what they're doing knows that the risk is minimal, and that except for extreme cases (and stupidity), a phone can be brought back to stock if needed. Unless you flashed the wrong rom and bricked your device, the only reason you wouldn't be able to bring it back to stock is hardware malfunction due to physical damange...and in most cases, those aren't covered by warranty.
Most people here also know the benefits of flashing ROMS and modifying the UI to make it work, and aren't holding their breaths for a fix from HTC or T-Mobile. Most people here bought the HD2 expecting the stock ROM to suck, and knew that the only way to get it working at the level of their expectations is to flash a custom ROM. If waiting for a fix from HTC or T-Mobile is the route you want to go, then hit up the t-mobile forum, because honestly, the problems a lot of you are facing on the stock ROM, don't exist on custom ROMS. The chefs here will always be 5 steps ahead of T-Mobile and HTC.
It's not just about sense running smoother....its correcting innate problems in WM6.5 and sense that can make the device a pain in the ass to use. Its about making the OS and UI more accessible, capable, and above all, less prone to crashes and more stable!

It's almost as if the OP was attempting a very elaborate troll. The site is called "xda-developers", not "xda-lovers".
If you are looking to mod your device within the so-called "safe" limits that HTC and T-Mobile force upon you, maybe you would be better off hanging out over at freewareppc, instead of a modding forum.

I can tell you that I had many of those problems and after flashing a custom rom, I've fixed my HD2 almost to perfection, not only the way it looks but stability. Only problem I keep having is 3G connection problems, and by the looks of it, its not the device anymore, seems more like T-mobile's service.

I agree with both perspectives.

That being said, I agree with compaining to HTC and T-MO. If there are enough people complaining, then more work will be done to fix those problem, which will lead to better/more frequent updates for the chefs to work with. That way, it's win win. I love HTC devices, they are the best, but when I accidentally dial someone, and it takes me 10 seconds to get to where I can hang up because of lag on a device that technically qualifies to run Windows XP.... That seems unacceptable to me.

In a perfect world, a company like HTC would hear their customer's cries and devote all of their resources and attention to releasing regular updates. In the real world, HTC has released 4 phones after the HD2, and lined-up several others...they aren't interested in developing for the HD2 anymore. People have been complaining to HTC about the HD2 since it was released in Europe back in November....and they still haven't really addressed most of the concerns.

Ha! It's so true My wife has a myTouch and she complained that the battery life on it sucked and I said that all smartphones get worse battery life than the dumbphones she was use to. Well, one night she said that she understood that batterlife was worse on smartphones, but having to recharge your phone 2-3 times a day was getting rediculous along with the horrible unresponsiveness. Finally I took a look to see what was up, and I guess I must have forgotten to explain "task management" with her, as she had every application on the phone open and running at the same time! Poor phone took a pretty decent beating the first couple of weeks she had it
But back on topic, if HTC releases an update to its Sense UI for WinMo, it should benefit all users of Sense UI (WinMo) reguardless of what phone it's running on. So even if there are newer models, updates should work on older models. That's at least what happened with my Pioneer Navigation system. There were lots of complains about things not working (even a few posts like this on a forum) and that summer they released a newer model that used the same software so our models got the upgrade too. I'm not saying it was a "Windows 7 moment" but I do like to think that our nagging helped.
I'm all for complaining to companies if it means that they produce better quality products. If we just sit around and accept it, then QoS will go down. There must be some formula where the cost of developement is compared to the cost of responding to complaints. When complaints go up, the other adjusts itself accordingly to maximize profit. Lower complains, less developement until complaints go back up! That kind of thing.
Just my 2 cents. But over all, I'm quite happy with kumar's work. If I were still on stock, I'd be upset too.

This is what pisses me off about the whole issue... we ALL know what this site is about. Regardless, NO ONE should HAVE to flash a damn rom to get a phone to function like it should out of the box...especially when you have people that are spending $400+ for it. That's just plain pathetic, bs and I just couldnt go for it which was why I simply returned mine and got my money back. Flashing is cool, but not everyone comes here for new roms... some people come for software, tweaks or to figure out how to do other things.
Telling someone that they SHOULD just flash a rom and deal with it.. even though roms are nice lets just be real, almost every single one of them has SOME kind of bugs with it. That's one of the main reason I stopped doing the flash dance and chose to stick with the stock rom to begin with. But when you buy the phone and it already has bugs, YES people have the right to complain about it and want the issue resolved. That's about as dumb as buying a Mercedes with a blown header and saying.. well you should just put aftermarket headers on it anyways. Should the car just WORK when you buy it? And if it doesnt work.. you take it back and get it serviced or another car.

That would probably be true if HTC were releasing more windows mobile based phones and updating sense for new models, but windows mobile is at the literal end of its product life cycle, and development has come to a hault. We've already seen sense updates for Android, but most of those probably won't make it to windows mobile.
Unless it becomes a public relations nightmare for HTC, I don't see them springing to the service of HD2 users....cost is the biggest reason. They've already sold us an HD2, and they've moved onto releasing several models to replace the HD2. Continuing to develop for it will do nothing to generate more revenue for them. HTC's market-share is growing significantly by constantly pushing the hardware bar higher every few months.

I dont think these people who flash roms understand that, a phone shouldnt have so many ****in issues. It should work properly, and their is no word on whether or not T-mobile/HTC are working on an update..This completely B.S for a phone to have so many issues..I've had a dash,iphone, BB 97000 no problems..

If your device has so much problems im sure it's a faulty one why not replace it under warranty??
Mine working perfectly out of box (i wonder where's the lagging was) i dont flash my rom, if it aint broken why fix it? i just do some tweaks that's all

because i dont want a refurbished phone. I seriously think i'm done with HTC and anything they add to a phone. I will never buy a phone with Sense U.I on android only ones that dont have it. Also why cant they keep us posted on an update. Its kind of B.S that they release a phone but stop making updates or wont make any because Windows Mobile is dead.. Thats like M.S not updating XP or Vista anymore because Windows 7 is out. People bought this phone a month ago so its ****in new in the U.S and their should be updates being handed out..If not HTC i hope they fail as a company and prob will in the future. so thats not what this is about. I have done some searching, and it looks like whenever someone asks that, the response is that there are a bunch of good ones, and the "BEST" depends on what you need to use it for.
Well, I am picking up a Leo today, i will be trading my iphone 3gs 16gb for it. Unless i get shouting overwhelming opposition saying its a bad idea. which i would listen to.
I could care less about windows mobile and am not a business man. I dont care about apointments, spreadsheet, ect.
All i care about is the internet, text messaging and MMS, and music. Maybe the occasional game here or there to pass time. I dont need anything extra, but Id love to be able to avoid the true windows mobile behind the phone as much as possible. (why trade, i know right? well i dont like mac. and everyone and their mother has an iphone)
So, in light of that, can anyone here please offer me some advice? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If you have multiple suggestions that fit my needs, I dont mind trying a couple out. I had a T Mobile Wing back in the day(ghetto processor and no ram) and i flashed a few roms, so i should be able to figure it back out relatively easily.

Simple answer. Read and keep flashing until you find the right one for what you install and how you use your phone! Good luck.

if u don't need chinese input, then you will be spoilt for choices.
there are just too many to list.
u can start by trying Energy Rom by NRGZ28 and play from there.
regardless of what you flash...u will keep flashing as it never is enough.
read the rom details before u flash...some includes a lot of extras which u may not need
please also understand most are provided free by the cookers...so pls don't complain if one doesn't satisfy you...just move on...hehe
however...cookers also welcome feedbacks.

With the things you mentioned I think you might be better with Iphone. Unless you like to tweek, change things, this phone does not have all the free apps that you have. The 1's for hd2 are mostly useful. I love the phone. But you do need to tweek it to your tastes.

If you don't like WinMobile, but you do like the iphone, I recommend keeping your iphone. The HD2 is a WinMo device, so it takes work and tweaking to get it the way you want. You are not going to be able to avoid WinMo behind it, and the fact that you say that, I think you will regret your decision. Don't get me wrong, I love my HD2, as I have loved all my WinMo devices. I bought this phone because it is WinMo. If you're hoping for an android or WP7 port, I'd just wait for a WinPhone7 or android device, as it's not guaranteed we will have fully functional ports for either on the HD2.
Any rom you flash is still going to be WinMo. And the sense interface that covers up WinMo has some issues with text messages and MMS, which you say is important to you. You will not get an iphone like experience from a HD2.
If you could care less about WinMo, THIS IS NOT THE PHONE FOR YOU. Most people you see complaining about this phone are the ones who bought it not understanding it's a WinMo phone or bought it as an "entertainment" device. It's a WinMo device. Thank you for this reply. However, my only expereince with windows mobile in the past was with the t mobile wing. that thing had like a 200 mhz processor and 50 mb of ram. and it was slow and had a resistive screen. thats why i say i want to avoid windows mobile. i dont need all the extra features.
now i dont MIND tweaking it at all. as long as i can get it running smoothly to my needs.
My main problem is that my iphone wont let me use it as a portable hard drive, and i HATE having to use itunes. i hate the hoops i have to jump through to get stuff on and off of my phone, and im tired of being jailbroken just to be able to do things my old moto RAZR could do stock. This is why i wanted to switch, and someone offered me their hd2 as a trade.

Well, one of the big reasons why I still love WinMo is because of XDA forums.... where else can you find all the info you need to tweak your phone to your liking. But even with all this info, it won't make someone looking for an iphone experience happy with WinMo. WinMo is a lot more versatile and powerful, but it's definitely not as user-friendly as iphone or android phones.

Just keep in mind it may take some work and learning to get it smooth and working the way you want. It's not "dumbed-down" for everyday people like the iphone. But, it can be so much more versatile, customizable, and powerful if you learn to use it and work around any bugs or snags you may come across. Good luck with your new device. the phone I am trading for is being used on T mobile. But I use AT&T. However, the phone is unlocked. Will it work on AT&T 3g? Or will it be like the first nexus one and only work on 2g?

It will only work with edge. No 3G on AT&T unless you get the australian telstra t9193 HD2. That one costs about $800 to import, though.

There is no best ROM. But i advise Dutty, Energy or one of CleanEx ROMS...

See it is all personal prefrence when it comes to ROMS, because i really love the OzRom 2.45 Spot on for my needs.
but like the guys said try a few and choose what you like, if your unwilling to try a few, Y the hell get a winmo device PMSL.
Have a go its easy as pie, the devs are kind enough to write guides for the less technical minded person, So you can't really go wrong- Well unless you dont read the threads properly.

Hi. So i've been thinking about buying and HTC HD2 for a while, and finally decided that i will buy one.
I'm looking on Amazon at the moment and after looking at the reviews, the only problem seems to be that they are shipping T-Mobile USA versions of the phone instead of International. Which i'm completely fine with since i live in the USA and T-Mobile USA is my carrier.
The price is $299.99. I"m wondering if this device is worth that price considering that it came out like 1-2 years ago.
Would this be a good purchase? or would it be better to just look around more on ebay or something like that.

i love this phone. i live and breathe it (for good or bad) but paying 300 bucks just might be worth it. i mean it is great. but you are paying for a WM phone to put wm7 or android (assuming you don't want WM). seems like you could get a lot of phone for that kind of cash. now the fun factor is worth it, but i see a lot of android native phones and happy people. personally, i would look around, check out native devices and the tweaks available here and go from there. now, it isn't a bad choice for a phone, but it ain't no spring chicken.

I already have an Android device. I was gonna get the HD2 back when i upgrade in November. I don't know why i didn't lol.
I figured $300 might be worth it. I've never used a Windows Mobile device before. I know it isn't exactly an amazing operating system. But if i don't like it i could stick Android or Windows Phone 7 on it. Which is another reason I kinda want to get this because I was thinking my next device would be a Windows Phone 7 device anyway. And it's not like i'm wasting an upgrade with T-Mobile anyway so I could still upgrade to a newer device later down the road.
I might just do it. According to Amazon i can return cell phones within the first 30 days of purchase. So i could probably just get a refund if I have problems with it or something.

I bought one for 380 about 3 or 4 months ago, and I definitely thought it was worth it.
There's so much you can do with this phone. Take off wm6.5 and put android on there. And at least 6 different really good versions of android. And it's so easy to switch from one android rom to another.
And after you've found the one you really like, then you can customize the hell out of it.
I'm a student in graduate school and this phone is the primary way I study. I installed studydroid, and this is 90% of what I do to study for an exam. If I had known how helpful this phone would be in my day to day activities, I would have bought it a year early for twice as much.
It has a calender, note taking, syncing contacts with google, very decent camera, mp3 player, and you can make the phone look very pretty.
If my HD2 broke right now, I would probably buy another for 300 usd immediately.

to be really Honest..once you start using Windows Mobile after using Android there is a 99% chance you wont like it. Its just lack of support thats all. I however still use WM cos it fulfills my basic needs.
1) SMS
2) Internet(Opera Mini)
3) Watching Movies
4) Making Calls
5) Battery Life (its amazing...I have 3G off and use automatic brightness and at the end of the day after nominal use my battery meter is around 70%)
So I am sure you will feel like putting Android/WP7 on it but since you already have an android phone you would go for Wp7
if thats the case
i would advice you to rather go buy the HD7 cos no matter how much of tweaking they do to the WP7 on HD2 it wont be as good as native Wp7 on HD7 ( is what I feel...battery issues...driver issues...magldr issues)
so yeah...go for a HD7..its an amazing phone...sleek and better display than HD2 (more colors) !! and i think an Android port will be soon there for the HD7 tooo !!!

Congratulations on your purchase! Just my 2 cents: while it's fashionable around these parts to knock the Windows Mobile 6.5 OS and for (well-meaning) people to advise you: "just take that off and install Android", let me just say that:
If we're talking about stock WinMo + stock Sense as the phone comes out of the box, then yes-- it's crappy. Considering that Microsoft is very good at building things with potential, but ultimately releasing them half-assed and half-brained, it's no wonder. But thanks to the incredibly smart, dedicated, creative, and inventive folks here on XDA, you can skin, stabilize, and mod WinMo into an entirely different beast (or install a custom ROM that does it for you). I started off like most people, whining about Windows on the HD2 and wanting to do something about it. However, unlike many others, I had to keep WinMo because I have need for several apps that have no Android equivalent (including a few that I wrote myself). So for me it started as necessity. But now, I'll say to anyone who'll listen, that a custom WinMo6.5 running the new Cookie's Home Tab Suite (with Editor, GUI, and Loco) is an entirely different experience. It's like the OS that Microsoft should have built, but didn't. In reality, it's not really even a mod but a bona fide re-write of the operating system (and it certainly blows the newer Windows Phone 7 out of the water). Truthfully, I love WinMo + CHT so much that when I'm in Android I can sometimes feel guilty that I'm not using CHT (and btw, I LOVE Android). So before you dismiss WinMo out of hand, give that some thought.
I cant say I really understand a lot of the advice here like "when you get your phone wipe Windows and install Android". This is NOT because of my previous statement defending WinMo, but rather because:
if its strictly Android you're after, there are newer (and cheaper) phones that have Android already installed, or that you can root and install your own custom flavor, but most importantly...

Well...yes...I run Android. And a custom version of Windows Mobile. Oh, and Ubuntu as well. Yep. 'Matter of fact, if I wanted to I could run MeeGo, Win 95, and a few others I can't think of.
And then I can watch their jaw drop. I have had hardcore geeks practically foaming at the mouth in envy after I give them a quick multi-boot custom ROM demo and tally off all the relentless hacking I've done to this phone. It's awesome.
The bottom line is most of us here installed other stuff on our phone because we weren't satisfied with the stock phone, and could do something about it, because of the people and tools present here on XDA. But we already owned an HD2. I'm not sure I would go out and buy an HD2 if I was just going to turn it into a run of the mill phone like all the rest... get me?

If we're talking about stock WinMo + stock Sense as the phone comes out of the box, then yes-- it's crappy. Considering that Microsoft is very good at building things with potential, but ultimately releasing them half-assed and half-brained, it's no wonder. But thanks to the incredibly smart, dedicated, creative, and inventive folks here on XDA, you can skin, stabilize, and mod WinMo into an entirely different beast (or install a custom ROM that does it for you). I started off like most people, whining about Windows on the HD2 and wanting to do something about it. However, unlike many others, I had to keep WinMo because I have need for several apps that have no Android equivalent (including a few that I wrote myself). So for me it started as necessity. But now, I'll say to anyone who'll listen, that a custom WinMo6.5 running the new Cookie's Home Tab Suite (with Editor, GUI, and Loco) is an entirely different experience. It's like the OS that Microsoft should have built, but didn't. In reality, it's not really even a mod but a bona fide re-write of the operating system (and it certainly blows the newer Windows Phone 7 out of the water). Truthfully, I love WinMo + CHT so much that when I'm in Android I can sometimes feel guilty that I'm not using CHT (and btw, I LOVE Android). So before you dismiss WinMo out of hand, give that some thought.
I cant say I really understand a lot of the advice here like "when you get your phone wipe Windows and install Android". This is NOT because of my previous statement defending WinMo, but rather because:
if its strictly Android you're after, there are newer (and cheaper) phones that have Android already installed, or that you can root and install your own custom flavor, but most importantly...

Pretty much the main reason I wanted to buy this phone is because of all of the OS's. I've heard people say that Windows Mobile is a horrible OS but honestly it doesn't look as bad as people say. I'm deffinantly not just buying this just to put Android on it considering I already have a rooted Android phone lol. I've always wanted to mess around and use Windows Mobile. And it's a device that could probably last me a while. I really can't wait until it gets here . lol.
EDIT: I also forgot to put on here that I think some of the Windows Mobile ROMs are pretty cool and nice looking.

I had my share of WM devices over the years and find HD2 simply amazing. When presented with a choice, I went for HD2 due to various OS ports available and options/customisations presented. In fact, I am in the process of parting with every other phone in my collection, bar HTC Universal, but I am keeping that one for sentimental reasons.
So yeah, i'd part with $300 if I had to replace mine. I am looking for a main board to stick into another HD2 I have, just so that I can have 1 set up and operational for daily use and another for flashing and playing around. Anyone wants to part with their broken, yet still alive HD2 - give me a PM.

As a matter of fact, I might have to shell out for a new HD2 myself. After a year and a half my phone has developed some reception/antenna problems, which if I cant figure out how to resolve it (like, by cracking open the phone and seeing if there's something "obvious" I can fix) I will have to retire the phone.
At that point, it will be tempting to grab something from the new crop of sweet Android-only phones, but I know for sure I'd be jonesin' for some multi-platform action and my HD2.
I'm starting to look now; I just hope I can find one for the right price.

That sucks :/. When I was looking around ebay i saw some for cheap prices. I figured i should play it safe by buying off of amazon though so that's what i did. I paid $299US for it.
Meanwhile, if you are looking at newer Android devices, and you're on T-Mobile USA, and don't mind keyboards, I would wait untill the myTouch 4G Slide is released. And HTC is supposed to be unlocking the bootloader on the Sensation 4G so that's another choice .

That's why I went for the HD2. My other choice was gonna be the Touch Pro2 since it was cheaper and you can put Android on it. But i think the extra money will be worth it.

Yeah, there's a lot of phones on Ebay, but many are of questionable quality. You'll pay more on Amazon, but I'm assuming you got a warranty, so that's piece of mind.
Meanwhile, if you are looking at newer Android devices, and you're on T-Mobile USA, and don't mind keyboards, I would wait untill the myTouch 4G Slide is released. And HTC is supposed to be unlocking the bootloader on the Sensation 4G so that's another choice .

Thanks, I hadn't given any thought to the myTouch. And obviously the Sensation is the new "it" phone, but honestly, apart from the excitement factor, it's served me well not to jump on the latest stuff, preferring to let the real early-adopters see what kinds of flaws and bugs are present and whether they can be fixed. I've avoided quite a few lemons this way (although you can't always avoid them all ) There are some grumblings RE the Sensation which I'm keeping my eye on: possible "deathgrip" flaw (which may turn out to be a red herring), wide swings in reception-quality on the TMOUS network (which the HD2 also suffered from!), so we'll see....
In the meantime, a few of my friends are taking any opportunity to rave (which can get a bit annoying) about their T-Mo G2X's, so that's a prospect if I go the non-HD2 route....

Yeah. It's not always the best to jump in to new devices. I'm trying to force my self to wait to get the Galaxy S2 whenever it gets launched in the US. lol. I got really lucky getting the myTouch 4G almost right after it launched. A lot of devices were shipped with bad screens and bad emmc chips. The G2X looks nice although i've heard it has rebooting problems and stuff like that. But considering it's currently out of stock on T-Mobile's website, they're probably working on fixing it.

UPDATE: It came in the mail today . Everything seems to be fine. It's the T-Mobile USA version. The only odd thing was that it came in a myTouch 4G box...lol. But I got the device and that's all that really matters.

I'm gonna do some reading first. I want to try the Android on SD Card thing first. It only came with a 512MB SD Card though and my other SD card is being used for my other phone. So i'll have to go out and buy one.

That's pretty weak.
This is hands down the best ROM you can use on your SD card.
once you get your card just download the ROM, extract it, move it to your SD card (the Android subfolder).
then you just click CLRCD and then Haret and you're running Android!
