Froyo aria source code release from htc. - HTC Aria General

Question is does that indicate att is going release there froyo update for thee aria? Sent from my Liberty using XDA App

Where do you see this?

Modders and ROM developers are about to bury themselves in source code today and will chug six packs of Red Bull to stay up late into the night hacking away. HTC has released their valuable Android 2.2 source code for the EVO 4G, DROID Incredible, Aria, and Wildfire today allowing programmers and enthusiasts to get their hands dirty with code.
This is a pretty standard thing, as the Android operating system is open source and anything developed in conjunction with it has to be made available to the public. What’s funny about this release of code is that HTC has basically preempted all carriers except for Sprint as the Aria, Incredible, and Wildfire have yet to see the “official” release of Android 2.2. This confirms that it is the carriers that have slowed down the upgrade process on their devices making options like rooting and modding so popular. Even with the slow down, this release shows that the carriers are getting ready for the “official” releases.
The release of the Android 2.2 source for HTC devices is going to prove to be an awesome edition to what modders have already gained from earlier ROM leaks. So, keep your eyes out for some new ROMs over at xda-developers and other modding sites as it is about to get crazy out there!

i saw this a while back...i was curious when we would start seeing some mods made from this...i wish i had the know how to develop this stuff id be all over it...perhaps someone on here is and there almost finished with it...i running the cm6 rom and its sweet just wish there was a better oc kernel that worked well with it

HTC has not and does not release "source code" for any of their ROMs, only the kernel sources which they are required to release. So far, kernel source released for the Aria is still behind the kernel source released for the Snapdragon processors that HTC used in it's 2.2 builds. Nothing new has been posted for the Aria for a while.

Ahe... I see not really much of a code monkey ..but i got you

Andriod 2.2 (Froyo) For Aria???

Does anyone has a clue about when Froyo will be available for Aria?
I'm not holding my breath for update from AT&T!

I am hoping we'll be able to port the Legend Rom with a great deal of success once it is available. I will be looking into an unbranded 2.1 Legend ROM port for the Aria next.
eh it was just released... wouldn't expect to hear about a 2.2 release for at least a few months probably more.
Froyo hasn't even been officially released yet. after that, HTC will need to port SenseUi for it. HTC did say all 2.1 devices released this year should expect a 2.2 update.
Probably not until AT&T figures out how to remove tethering from it.

As saint168 said, I wouldn't hold your breath. What will happen is HTC will say "we expect a Froyo update for the Aria by Christmas!" and then the day before Christmas they will say "We expect a Froyo update for the Aria by the end of February!" and then we won't see an update except in Taiwan in June.
I am going by the official Eclair update for the GSM Hero of course.
attn1 brought up a factor, as most likely we will be seeing mostly stable 2.2 Roms within the next six months or so for the Aria that will probably make the frustrations of any promised official update increase.

Or perhaps not remove it outright, but to figure out how to make it billable to the tune of extra $20 per month on top of "DataPro" data plan, as they've done it with iPhone 4/iOS4.
Android 2.2 Froyo will definitely for Aria but i don't count on AT&T. I want a clean Froyo and not At&T B.S. in there

cyanogen has said he's porting to the MT3GS, which is nearly identical to the Aria. That WILL be ported to the Aria.
AOSP Froyo 2.2 - cyanogen style. Everyone and their all their brothers will be taking a crack at that port - including me.

Will this be a dump of the official update for the MT3GS or is there a port that's being used. Also, if this is a pre-existing port then what kind of features should we expect to not work by the time it hits Aria (like camera, 3D acceleration, gps, and sound)?
By the way ... my Aria is now in my state so hopefully will be playing with it in an hour or two.

The MT3GS and Aria are very closely related. HTC does not do AOSP roms - they add their proprietary HTC sense stuff. If you want that, it will take some time for HTC to release a stable version for either the MT3GS or the Aria.
AOSP means Android Open Source Project based - and that means no HTC Sense UI. The Nexus One runs pure AOSP, which personally, I prefer. cyanogenmods are all AOSP based, but are generally better in terms of features and performance.
cyanogenmod 6.x will be based on Android 2.2 AOSP code, and is being built and in limited testing now. It will be released for a half dozen phones almost simultaneously - and soon. Once something is working for the MT3GS, it will be a very short time before it is ported to the Aria.

Man this is like night and day coming from the Xandroid community (new android features seem to take months to develop).
I too prefer AOSP which I used on the Xandroid builds (tested on my Pure) and I had Launcher Pro installed which I think is LEAGUES better than Sense.
I'm extremely excited to learn more about flashing android roms. Don't know anything about it yet but I saw Aria's already been rooted.
I do appreciate the WVGA of the Pure but this Aria really isn't THAT different in quality (seems more colorful though). Gotta get a screen protector from AT&T ... will have to wade through crowds of iPhone sheep no doubt.

When you say ported, does that mean I can rewrite my phone replacing Sense? Because I don't just want to have Froyo AND Sense and just have sense disabled and hiding in the background.

I think you're confusing Android 2.2 (FroYo) with HTC's user interface (Sense).
cyanogenmod is based on pure AOSP code - no Sense UI.
I just completed a port of a MyTouch3G rom to the Aria. Wifi doesn't work, and my touch keys don't work. I am sure those are simple fixes. Eugene probably has answers to some of those issues, but it stands to reason that when CM 6 is released for the MTS3G, we can begin work on a port for the Liberty (Aria).
Froyo runs... it's just a matter of someone who knows what they're doing fixing all of the drivers and a few other things.
big file here
CM6 is coming soon I think!
"release later this weekend" ... running out of time but this is exciting.

So what does the release of CM6 mean for us?

HTC releases Android 2.2 source code for EVO 4G, Incredible, Aria, and Wildfire — geeks rejoice

That is VERY good news.
This is incredible (no pun intended)! Now if we only had the official 2.2...
So now we are waiting on Verizon they say? I guess they want to sell as many Droid 2's as possible before they upgrade the other phones. It's all about the buck for them as we all know. How could they possibly make money off of a free upgrade? They're laying awake at night thinking of this shi*

This is good news indeed. Shame on Verizon for holding out for so long!
They're busy adding their verizon bloatware to it which we will spend hours removing and tweaking to perfection.
This is for the kernel and bluez only? Or am I missing something here?
what is bluez? im guessing something about bluetooth.. wii remove or something?

Possibility of community made future Android updates

Hi guys,
I'm new to the whole android scene but not linux, and I was wondering, are devs always going to have to wait for Samsung to post their kernel source before they can build updated versions of Android to the Fascinate? I got this phone largely because people told me that once Motorola stops supporting the Droid X, it will be stuck, whereas with the Fascinate the community can build updated versions of the OS. But clearly that isn't the case right now. Is this just because devs don't want to waste their time when it's supposedly coming any day now, or is it technically too hard for them to do? Once CyanogenMod is ported, will we be set for the life of our phones, or will we keep having to wait for Samsung's kernel patches to be released? I would really appreciate any answers I can get. Thanks!
I think the devs cant really do anything new to their roms until cyanogenmod is ported to the fascinate. However, since cyangenmod is based on 2.2, fascinate is stock until 2.2 is leaked our released. I think the devs are just waiting for dj05 to be released right now, unless 2.2 magically appears.

I do not agree with you as my G1 was stuck at 1.6 when Cyanogen built 2.0, then 2.1, then 2.2 for it...
I do believe that the developers can take it to 2.2 and further... However, one of the issues is that Samsung gives us open source code that is flawed or does not compile at all.
Mmmmmmmmmmm
They are attempting to get us better ROMs and such, but Samsung's source and crappy RIL are causing issues with doing so. I have faith that they will get us something great here at some point though.

Wow! We've seen claims along these lines before, I think, but this one seems to be for real - it links directly to the HTC website.
EDIT: And curiously, it's a Froyo build, something which many of us never thought we'd see for the Aria from any official channel.

That is just the kernel source code. It takes more than that to make a Froyo 2.2 ROM that you can put on your Aria.
The Froyo 2.2 ROM for the Aria has been available since December for all non-branded Arias around the world. Once a ROM has been released, HTC (or any vendor really) is obligated by Open Source licensing to release any source code that falls under that policy. Since Android is based on Linux, that means certain portions of an Android device fall under this policy, namely the kernel. HTC Sense UI does not fall under this category.
So basically it took HTC 2 months to release the kernel source code for a ROM that's been available since December.

What the LTE EVO means for the OG EVO (development wise)

So once the LTE Evo/One S/OneX makes it into the hands of developers, Will devs be able to glean anything from the new HTC handsets that will help in the development of ICS for our OG EVO?

Its the kernel thats really stopping it we have a aosp but sense needs to release the source code for the kernel for dev to get to working. its where the good stuff drivers are in. Its easy to port will need the kernel so......
And HTC is obligated to release kernel info within 30 days. If I remember correctly.

I believe that's only relating to an OTA update. It would only make sense that a newly released device would have a shorter time frame.
