[Q] Port Blocking - Vibrant General

Is there a browser for Android that does not block ports or will allow you to unblock a certain port? Like Firefox blocks many ports and it looks like most Android browsers do also. Anyone know any work around?

Browsers also block ports for your own "protection" See here:

Yeah, looks like a pretty stupid idea if you ask me - I do not know the answer to your dilemma though.

That page is really, really old. The CERT advisory is from 2001, and the page is a part of netlib, which references the Netscape browser. I would be surprised if any browser now is blocking any application from communicating through a port. You might check your firewall rules.
I'm running Firefox posting this right now on my laptop, and I can POP, IMAP, SSH, ftp, nntp, tftp, etc. just fine.

The browser isn't blocking ports, T-mobile is.

Test my ftp server; download 60 themes free

OK, I just want to test this server so I am asking people that want themes for their hermes and/or wizard with either wm5 or wm6, to login and download them for free. They are in a zip file..
ftp://elsmacko.servebeer.com
Username: windowsmobile
pw: wm6
Give it a try..the server will be set to only allow a few people at a time, so please try again later if it is down..
I wasn't able to get to it. It was in a "connecting" state for about 30 seconds after I entered login/pw. The page then went to "This page cannot be found."
Sorry...yes I am having difficulties getting it to work behind this router..I already setup the port forwarding..I will check again when I get time..thanks for testing it for me, everyone.
The server is up again! Please give it one more try, I think it will work now...
ftpsite is asking for credentials but nothing is happening after that
OK try logging in anonymously, I have now allowed that.
I guess with Xp you either have to allow anon or your usernames have to be the same as allowed to login on the XP network :0
IT IS UP NOW!!
I found a site that I can use to test the server as I try different things..
I had to do several things but it came down to selecting the default DMZ server in th router...
Here are the results of a test; i found a site where I can test it without the help of an outside person..
Service appears to be up, port 21 is open
drw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 0 Jan 17 22:15 .
drw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 0 Jan 17 22:15 ..
-rw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 9085883 Jan 17 22:19 Themes for POCKET PC WM5 WM6.zip
-rw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 108727 Jan 14 22:28 How to show or hide SIM contacts in the Contacts.pdf
-rw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 5863584 Aug 23 2007 MDA_User_Manual.pdf
Anonymous login has been disabled, please login:
ftp://elsmacko.servebeer.com
Username: windowsmobile
pw: wm6
it is working for me @ 2:56am GMT.
I would also not use DMZ on your router , as you are just advertising your computer is totally open to the internet. I would just add a virtual server in the router and add the application, you are using for an FTP server and Port 21.
You should also set up a no-ip address and download the duc client from the no-ip website then you can call it for example elsmacko.ftp.no-ip.info instead of your ip address
Working just fine

Hey, what is PRTG Traffic Grapher?
I added some games...
It's not working for me, it takes the p/w ok and then gives an error that it cannot establish a data connection.
<edit> Got it working, had to turn off passive mode
As other people have said, its a bit slow.
thanks for the themes
FTP Site working
I successfully logged in and downloaded a test file. All okay!
Logged in and downloading. Thank you....

WM6 pocket outlook imap problem

When I try to connect to our IMAP/sendmail server, i will get after starting downloading some messages a connection error. The reason is simple after checking the server maillog:
Pocket Outlook (WM 6 and WM 6.1) always does a double login to the sendmail server within 2-6 seconds. So sendmail assumes, that the first connection is abandonded and kills the stream.
Logfile:
Jul 25 23:37:30 srv08 imapd[13515]: imap service init from 87.184.87.55
Jul 25 23:37:31 srv08 imapd[13515]: Login user=xxxxx

I cannot change this strange (and wrong) behaviour of Pocket Outlook: Any Ideas?
My wm6.1 with gmail IMAP is fine. It may be due to the server setting.
I'm also seeing this same problem - any ideas on a resolution?

Maybe a way to hack WEP/WPA networks with Hero ?

I think I found a way to ping a host via the shell command. When I type "adb shell ping -a 192.168.1.1" it writes :
PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=254 time=1914ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=2 ttl=254 time=908ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=3 ttl=254 time=1020ms
(when I disable the wifi on my phone it starts to write the below)
ping: sendmsg: Network is unreachable
ping: sendmsg: Network is unreachable
ping: sendmsg: Network is unreachable
ping: sendmsg: Network is unreachable
ping: sendmsg: Network is unreachable
Maybe HTC Hero can be a great WiFi Hacking tool that doesen't require us to format and install Linux.
Also someone may have discovered this a long time ago but I didn't noticed it anywhere so I posted it.
I'm failing to see how you've accomplished anything here except breaking a ping by cutting a network connection?!?

[Q] has anyone got pptp working

I haven't been able to get my pptp working from my viewsonic and was wondering if anyone else has been able together there's working. Works fine on my nexus so I know it is the tablet.
Currently I am using the CM7 Roman but I have tried a few now and non work (including stock).
I am using TNTL 4.4 and with 5 VPN I can get PPTP working.
Cool, is that the gtablet tnt?
What is 5 vpn, i haven't heard of that before?
I should point out it is a viewsonic 10s not a gtablet
there is a gtablet forum this is vega there similar devices i know
Thanks bob the Viewsonic 10s can use the same roms as the vega, my understanmding is only the GSM radio drivers are different.
I still can't get PPTP working on the 10S when trying to connect to a Microsoft VPN server. From reading a lot of posts this isn't out of the norm but I am supprised when my Nexus can connect but my tablet can't.
removed due to double post
You are not alone, CorvusVegaRom 0.5 on a Mobii will not connect to my pptpd (Debian/stable).

Web Server Issue For My Android Application

I have a simple quiz app on android, I want the data to be fetched as fast as possible from web server to the client. What I'm thinking of is to put my server to a laptop and fetch the data locally by the android device using WLAN connection of a pocket wifi to make the fetching and sending of data as fast as possible or do I need to completely host my web server online which require internet connection and the speed of fetching and sending of data vary on the speed of my connection which also not very fast and reliable in my country.
Anyone can help me with this?
Yeah as long as you only use the app yourself then the thing with the laptop works, assuming you know how to make the laptop work as a server of course, but when you decide that other people that dont have physical access to your house should access the data, then you must of course have your data on some sort of online server, be it a server at home or a hosted one
