When I try to connect to our IMAP/sendmail server, i will get after starting downloading some messages a connection error. The reason is simple after checking the server maillog:
Pocket Outlook (WM 6 and WM 6.1) always does a double login to the sendmail server within 2-6 seconds. So sendmail assumes, that the first connection is abandonded and kills the stream.
Logfile:

I cannot change this strange (and wrong) behaviour of Pocket Outlook: Any Ideas?
My wm6.1 with gmail IMAP is fine. It may be due to the server setting.
I'm also seeing this same problem - any ideas on a resolution?

Thanks for viewing this post.
Work has:
Exchange 2003 Front End (Webmail client) Servers w/ SP2
Exchange 2003 Server w/ SP2
Cisco Firewall
I have:
K-Jam with latest AKU2 ROM
Exchange ActiveSync works with schedule and manually triggered. The direct push does not appear to work. I did check our hardware firewall (No ISA server here) and timeout for TCP ports (80 and 443) are set for 2 hours.
The exchange server has all the SP2 mobile features enabled (Direct Push over HTTP(s), Enable OMA and supported devices, etc).
The device is set to 'as items arrive' - I do get mail but it appears to be 5-30 minutes delayed as opposed to others where they get an notification and email with 5-7 seconds.
Any help/guidance is appreciated.

I have upgraded to WM6 and its working like a dream. One of the features that attracted me was the html mail. Ive read all the threads however cant find any official confirmation that Exchange 2007 is a requirement to receive and display HTML mail on Pocket Outlook. My exchange Administrator/Host is insisting that its the client that displays and renders the HTML the server just sends through the code! Can anyone point me in the direction of a definitive statement that confirms this?
WM6 will display HTML email for POP/IMAP and/or Exchange 2007. It will not display HTML for Exchange 2003. This is how 2003 sends the email to the device and yes it is the ex 2003 limitation. Exchange 2007 does work well and it is a big plus. But exchange 2007 is designed to run on Windows 64 bit server vs 32 bit. So just upgrading to 2007 is not that easy for some. You can (if your company security allows) set up to receive IMAP mail from your exchange server.
There was some talk on MS technet and MS MSDN forums about a hotfix to allow 2003 to send HTML to WM6 devices, but seems MS would rather spend time on getting us to switch to Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007.
I have both a production Exchange 2003 server and a test Exchange 2007 server. So far, Exchange 2007 performs great, although moving our existing 32-bit Exchange 2003 installation will be costly (new 64-bit hardware, new OS, new Exchange, new CALs, etc, etc.). But from a Windows Mobile 6 perspective, there are some interesting features Exchange 2007 enables in Outlook Mobile beyond just HTML email. One of the cooler is the "search server" feature which will search all of the email on your server, not just the last 3 days or so you may have downloaded to your device.
Also, I am connected via IMAP over SSL to my Exchange 2003 server and HTML email comes through just as expected.

I have my exchange server set up to retrieve the headers from the last day Via Push and then my Imap checking every 30 minutes, that way I still get notification of new emails. you may wish to try this.

Can some explain this... are you saying that even with Exchange 2003, its possible to have HTML push email? if so, how???
I have been using my Kaiser with WM6.1 latest Dutty's ROM (very nice ROM y the way) and getting pushed email from work which they were using exchange 2003. Today they moved my account to the exchange 2007 server, I reconfigured the server on the phone just to make sure that hopefully I was going to get all the EXC 07 like html email, out of office assistance, etc.... but I did not get anything of that. ....... Would they have to activate that at the server side?
As far as I know HTML email isn't supported via synchronising with exchange 07. I tried for days rtying to get it working with my 2007 server and my WM6 device, but it didn't work. I emailed tech support and the said it wasn't supported
No clue about out of office assistance, sorry
Actually HTML mail with Exchange 07 is supported. I run an Exchange 07 server, and there is an option to enable HTML email. I don't remember if it's enabled by default, because it involves an Activesync policy configuration on the server and so on. Basically, ask your Exchange admins (if you can) to create a default Activesync policy that can be applied to your phone.
kltye... could you??

could you mention where exactly in the configuration you have to set the html email and the out of office assistant.... they tell me that my account has already those setting but I do not see it happening in my device... I am using duttly 1999 ROM, would it be a matter of certificates missing?
This issue is closed... Sync with Exchange 2007
Guys, just to let you know that I spent almost 3 days trying to configure Activesync through Exchange 2007 with latest Dutty's ROM without success. I had to go back to the original ROM on my HTC branded phone to finally get all the feature of exchange 2007 like HTML email, fetch mail, out of office assistant, etc.
In case somebody that has synchronized in any 6.1 cooked ROM I would appreciate to let us know which one is as I think there is where the failure is….
Hi All
One of the main problems I face in IT is having multiple exchange server mail accounts on Windows Mobile. However today I have finally solved the problem using my Shift... here's how.
The problem stems from the simple fact that you must only have ONE ACTIVESYNC partnership, and use IMAP4 for all other Exchange accounts.
PROBLEM
=======
Using IMAP4 is problematic. The protocol is not fully implemented and followed by IMAP on Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003. Exchange 2007 finally follows the IMAP4 standard and thus allows it's use here.
The additional problem with IMAP4 (and this affects most WM5 and WM6 devices and the iPhone), is to do with deleting emails on your remote device.
Emails that are deleted either....
a. Remain in your mailbox so when you connect say at work or home using a full Outlook client the mails still appear,
b. they remain but also are 'deleted' in your Deleted Items.
This forces you into a manual DOUBLE DELETE and is a real pain to do every time every day.
The problem is with how mobile devices use the EXPUNGE command under the IMAP protocol. EXPUNGE must be issued to FORCE Exchange to remove the deleted items. It now appears that the Shift correctly follows the use of EXPUNGE and in conjunction with Exchange Server 2007 this now works like a dream.
Therefore....
EXCHANGE SERVER1 - USE ACTIVESYNC
EXCHANGE SERVER2 - USE IMAP4
EXCHANGE SERVER3 - USE IMAP4
etc for all other exchange mail accounts.
The servers you use IMAP4 on MUST BE EXCHANGE 2007....
Here is a link to enabling IMAP4 on Exchange 2007 as by default it is disabled.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124489.aspx
I have upgraded one of my exchange servers to Exchange 2007 and now do the following;
EXCHANGE SERVER 2003 mail account - ACTIVESYNC
EXCHANGE SERVER 2007 mail account - IMAP4
This now correctly works, allows me access to both my mail accounts and the Shift properly issues EXPUNGE and my IMAP4 mailbox is updated correctly for when I then use my full Outlook client.
Hope this helps everyone, as this has been my biggest headache using Windows Mobile and multiple mail accounts in the Corporate World....
Regards
Blitzspear
But this isn't a real solution as I still can't sync 2 calendars/list of contacts and IMAP doens't support push-mail as far as I know...
Yes, what about contacts and calendars? How do you handle those?
I am using CM 10.1. I would like to set up my outlook account on my phone. I just can't seem to get it working when trying with the exchange method. Not sure why. I tried the outlook.com app and it connects to my account but does not display any emails or calendar. Its like its not working. So I am stuck with my email set up with IMAP method. Anyone was able to set up their outlook/exchange account with email and calendar on their N4 running CM 10.1? Thanks.

In the outlook app, go to settings and increase the number of days to sync. I think the default is small (like 3 days).
As for Corporate (ActiveSync);
Email address: <[email protected]>
Password: <obvious>
-Hit cancel, or wait to fail-
Domain\Username: <[email protected]> (no backslashes)
Server is m.hotmail.com (m.outlook.com is for Outlook 360 accounts)
Use secure connection (SSL)
Port: 443
only sync "Email, Calendar, and Contacts".

I tried those steps before and again. No good. I tried getting support from Microsoft but I think I keep getting folks who are not qualified to troubleshoot with me. I'm curious if anyone is in the same boat with me or if there is something wrong? Any help is appreciated.
