All of these are stable and I've even used my boot profile with the performance governor (meaning the CPU is pegged at 1.19gHz) for benchmarking and extended usage (As when I was purposely draining my battery when doing the aforementioned battery cache wipe trick) with no stability issues whatsoever (I'm talkin last.fm scrobbling, music playing, wifi hotspotting, sync, resync, sync again, GPS & BT both on, full brightness and flashlight every few minutes on full brightness lol) will edit in the morning, looking forward to seeing other people's setups!

Capt, the phone is SMOKING fast and stable, kinda why I started this thread. I keep seeing horror stories of bootloops and FC issues overclocking at only 1.15ghz but I've never run into those problems and I've been running at my speeds since I first rooted.

SetCPU D'INC
Hey guys, I am running the CyanogenMod 6.1.0 Stable ROM, [KERNEL][AOSP] 2.6.32.26-invisiblek #18, and the official froyo radio 2.15.00.07.28, I copied the SetCPU profiles that were in the picture in the post above and I was wondering if that is needed or is this kernel and rom already OC'ed?

Can we all agree to use a standardized benchmark so that we know we're comparing apples to apples? I hear some numbers being used from SetCPU and also som fps numbers from another application. I remember gbhil recommending that we test the cpu (in the compcache thread) by making the phone calculate Pi to 100 decimal points, or something like that. Well I found an app called BenchmarkPi that does exactly this, although I don't know how many decimal places.
If everyone used BenchmarkPi we could all compare numbers for all our ROM and kernal setups and really be able to determine which one is the fastest.
Right now I have Fresh 1.1 on Gumbo's 2.6.27GK-0.31 kernal and the fastest time I got was 11,903 milliseconds. I want to test the new Pancake ROM and see if it will be faster.
The neat thing about BenchmarkPi is that you can compare your results with the fastest phones out there. The fastest time is 379 ms and there's a Nexus One at #3 with 478 ms. Are you kidding me?
Post your setups and speeds please.
edit: Forgot to add, I have SetCPU running on OnDemand, too.
Good idea for a thread, Dennis. I'm gonna download and try it out!

Interesting... No launcher2 here and forgot to enable lowmemorykiller looks like I have some work to do.
I think someone should make a modification to this app that kills all unnecessary tasks running and prevents them from running while the benchmarking is going on... we would have more consistent benchmarks then.

Hello
I have the Sprint Hero, am running the Aloysius ROM (last update that came out).. I have been using the SetCPU, but everytime i turn the screen off and then on again, all the values reset themselves to 245mhz max and min, down from the 528mhz/480mhz it was originally set to..
Why in the world does it keep doing this??? Its getting seriously irritating, and slows down the phone tremendously when trying to answer calls that come in while in sleep..
check your profiles. there is one for sleep/screen off. Probebly your problem. If not, then uninstall/reinstall.

you aren't supposed to use setcpu with android 2.1
I don't think Aloysious has the overclocking kernel. You'd need it to manually adjust the frequency.

Thanks.. I actually do prefer the Aloysius 1.0 over the 2.0 versions he has out.. It seemed to run much smoother, especially in screen transitions and just operated much smoother...
Will be going back to the 1.0 tonight...

Thats correct... FLIPZ does a great job of explaining in more detail about what setcpu does and how it works or (lack there of) in the Setcpu vs OverClock Widget section and he also explains that it may be the new sprint radio that could be the cause for slowing things down in >ANDROID DEVELOPMENT > 05/18/10 l FRESH TOAST v2.1 l BFS + OVER CLOCK.....im a noob to the site so cant post links

I'm still more or less a noob to the whole android customization, even though I tried out a lot of different roms on my saphire (MT3G). I recently upgraded to th MyTouch 4G, and immediately found a root method to install a custom rom. I tried several different roms for this device as well over the, last few weeks, and found that the ICE GLACIER 1.1.6 runs the most stable, and closest to the original. So my question is this: I have also been looking into overclock kernels as of late only to find that all the ones I try with my rom are either incompatible or cause frequent freezes, crashes, or restarts. Is there a kernel out here I have missed that will run smoothly with my rom? I have already looked trough some of the forums here and tried both versions of the faux kernel, and all the rest I have seen that aren't CM specific. Anyone can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Sent from Iced out Glacier (MT4G) v. 1.1.6
Gorilla's OC kernel that TeamSilence put in Ice-Glacier is a very strong and stable OC kernel. if I remember correctly that kernel will go up to 1708 or 1709 if you have SetCPU.
I am using set cpu, but even the kernel that comes with the rom freezes my phone up, or causes force closes and restarts out of the blue.

If you're OCing to 1.7GHz, that may not be the kernel's fault. Every CPU is different, some can't overclock as high as others. Here's a nifty thread on the subject.
Very true, just like the MT3G-Slide mine could go well into the 900's before it would lockup but my wife's can only hit 844 any higher and it locks

Thanks for the info. I love my MT4G as is, so overclocking isn't really a big issue, after reading this article, I am begining to wander if it is even a good idea. I was only curious to find out the problem because I never had such troubles overclocking my saphire (MT3G)
Edit: have reduced settings to 1497600mhz. Going to play around a little bit and see what my best settings are. As of now, this settings have outlasted all others. Thanks to those who responded. And HAIL to the devs who spend their time creating all these roms, so noobs like myself can easily make their devices unique!¡!¡!¡!¡!

Does the kernel affect battery life given the same clock speed? What I mean is if I am using CM7 RC1 with whatever Kernel it came with... and I change to the Faux kernel and keep the same clock speed will I see diff. battery life?
Are there any kernels that are tuned for better battery life?
Thanks,
RA

I'm running on the kernel that came with Ice Glacier now, thanks to a hard crash around midnight last night. I've been set at 1497mhz since I restored. No freezes, acceptable battery temps, and blazing response time. Now I only wander if one of the kernels allow a little better fine tuning, because if I try to change this one it only has two more setting, one in the 1600s and then max, both of which cause my phone to go crazy...

I don't know for certain, but I would think it matters more if the kernel is undervolted or not. Assuming the same usage patterns and CPU clock settings/profiles, the kernel that utilizes less voltage would preserve more battery, would it not? (Anyone with experience on the subject wanna chime in?)

[KERNEL][KB1]eXistZ KB1 Froyo Kernel #9[01JUL][Voodoo Sound 9, Lagfix & Color][OC/UV]
This kernel is for FROYO KB1 ONLY
This is a BETA, so there might be a few bugs. Im still in the process of adding features, so please bare with me..Ill update the post as I go along
As of right now, there will be no support..this is tagged BETA for a reason. However, its been stable for me
Voodoo lagfix converts /system, /cache, /dbdata and /data to Ext4 with optimized parameters for speed but also guaranteeing data integrity.
Also, it configures the write behavior of Linux to prevent lag from happening, plus apply some memory management providing a better balance than stock settings.
Big thanks to Hardcore, Xcaliburinhand, Supercurio, Raspdeep, sztupy, Designgears, Glitterballs, Morfic, Trasig, and eSPyel
As always, flash at your own risk, im not responsible for any damages!

If you have problems connecting to Wifi, try rebooting your router
WARNING
Do NOT use setCPU.. The OC/UV code is actually wrote for Voltage Control.
There are 2 parts to the OC/UV code, enabling "States" and setting "Max Clock".
With setCPU you cannot do this and it will cause problems with stability.
Just use Voltage Control..<--you been warned!
NOTE
When flashing a new kernel/rom your battery indicator may be off.
This means that you can have zero battery drain or a huge battery drain at the beginning.
Let the phone go through 3-5 complete charge cycles for the battery to recalibrate itself.
Good work.... glad to see you on it!

WiFi connected fine for me.
Getting some odd system hangs, not lag so much as it just seems to freeze for a few seconds, and doesn't catch up like a lag. It just skips to the last action.
Didn't mess with OC/UV yet.
Looking forward to checking this out more tomorrow.
Thanks for getting this out!
Edit: SpeedTest results are showing typical upload speeds and about 40% faster download for me.
