[Q] Which firmware to choose? - XPERIA X10 General

Hi
I have a Xperia from Vodafone, UK. I now use it in India after getting it unlocked.
I am looking to debrand the same and switch over to a generic firmware. Should I debrand it to R2BA020 (geeric Uk firmware) or R2BA023 (customised, india) ?
Is there any advantage of using the india firmware or the UK generic firmware?
thanks

I would take the UK generic firmware over the Indian one, just for the sake of getting updates sooner. Would love to try the Nordic one but I think I would rather save the hassle in case of any language issues.

I'm using generic Nordic firmware. There's no language troubles, apart from one app which was removable

Do you by any chance remember what app that is? I might switch to the Nordic firmware if it's an app I don't use.

It was nothing essentioul. Looked like a sports news app. I removed it. The other problem I had was I had to ask for my internet settings again. But that was no trouble.
I went with Nordic because they seem to get the updates first =/

That's great. If i don't get my 2.1 update by the end of Sep I'll go Nordic .

well i'm using the hong kong version of X10i and got a better treatment: loaded now with a .024 firmware.
the problem with my SEUS is that it keeps on telling me that a new update is available while it still flashes in the .024 firmware
is it because i've done too much modding in the phone?
i've got JIT, root and the FX10 custom theme installed

Most probably because you flashed the dual-touch update onto your phone.
damn it,,
guess SEUS doesn't like us customizing our phones with 'future' features lol
It hit Saudi Arbian kits the day before yesterday.
You can get it from my signature.
well i would like to use SEUS to update my phone, as i feel safer doing it =)
(also because i want the chinese rom for obvious reasons, not because my english is not good enough to understand the menus=P)
although i would lose all my root, JIT stuff, I can always use flashtool--->xRecovery to help me customize my phone back

All languages is included in all firmwares. So you won't lose your language. As for SEUS and FlashTool they work equally simple in my opinion.

i understand both methods are just a matter of following the algorithm that we're given
but my belief is that if i'm doing something OEM, then i'm better off doing it using the original OEM software (well in that case i would use the flashtool to mod my phone. not saying that it's not a gd piece of software and in fact, it is really awesome. but i just don't feel safe enough to flash roms into the machine)
I tried update my phone with PC Companion, didn't get the .435, do some reading here and succefully updated.
PC Companion became voices of 0.24 is the current FW for 1232-9897

It would appear not...............................
Still nothing on World Generic here in UK
Nothing on AUS Generic, just 2.0.2.

Different firmwares applications (attached)

Hi!
Let's post the applications that are included with our firmwares, different from the Generic Global version of the 435 firmware. The latest from Orange Romania was the 2.0.A.504 and the attached files are the only ones that are not included in the Global Generic of the 435.
Calendar.apk
EManual.apk
EManualLauncher.apk

I can think of one use. It's because the global generic stock ROMs do not have any of the local regional customizations, and since everyone on xda is using global generic you may be missing out on some cool apps that are specific to your region. For example, the official regional Brazil X10a firmware has google Voice Search, a 2.2 app elsewhere, that is not on the global generic firmware. Also missing is Okrut(photo social network I think) and Cell Information (allows emergency broadcast text messages during a disaster I was told).
Yep, that's it.

as far as i know,
our region (Indonesia) doesn't seem have that specified firmware (like US, UK, etc).
so, we r using the global generic firmware.
there's no such thing as "Indonesia Firmware".
its global generic firmware.
Indonesia is one of many countries that's using global generic firmware
my arc is made from Singapore, and still, its using generic global firmware.
not "Singapore Firmware" .
hope it helps.

yes. i bought my arc in indonesia, got 2.3.2 by default, OTA to 2.3.3, then flash to generic global .368 (LT15i_4.0.A.2.368_Generic Global.zip).
and when i plug the arc to my pc last week, pc companion says 2.3.4 update is available ! woot
btw, what's the different between arc SO-01C and arc LT15i?
(besides SO-01C is a japanese version)
Nothing. 1-2-5 bands like LT15a. Lots of bloatware but most can be deleted.

That's all with the exception of it is locked to Docomo at purchase, has a japanese keyboard option, one additional static wallpaper (blue/pink) and one additional live wallpaper (ambient time).
and why dont they just make the same firmware.. just too complicated to create special firmware for japan but no big difference at all with the other firmwares.. @[email protected]
who knows..

And.. what will happen if we have the generic arc fw(uk, global, etc) , and flash it with japan fw?
I'm wondering what will happen

You will have a LT15i running Docomo's firmware. From information I gather here, any firmware will work on all three arcs in question, LT15a, LT15i and SO-01C.

@cryogenix, when did you update your phone? I tried both OTA and PC Companion but it says that i already have the latest version. Mine is unbranded Arc.
it rolled out 9th of August... I didn't update though... since mines a rooted 2.3.3 with locked bootloader... but yeah it said it was available when you do SEUS and that it is available via PC update...

Build number is 3.0.1.A.0.145. I dont know if this is singapore or global since this is my 1st android phone.
I dont think it matters where the PCC update is available since we can all download the .ftf file from here to upgrade. The most important information is which regional firmwares have OTA update since that is what we need to keep root. On world generic .145, OTA was available but because I had modded system files (themes), I could not proceed with the upgrade. I'm downgrading back and restarting the process.
