Hi
I have a Xperia from Vodafone, UK. I now use it in India after getting it unlocked.
I am looking to debrand the same and switch over to a generic firmware. Should I debrand it to R2BA020 (geeric Uk firmware) or R2BA023 (customised, india) ?
Is there any advantage of using the india firmware or the UK generic firmware?
thanks
I would take the UK generic firmware over the Indian one, just for the sake of getting updates sooner. Would love to try the Nordic one but I think I would rather save the hassle in case of any language issues.
I'm using generic Nordic firmware. There's no language troubles, apart from one app which was removable

Do you by any chance remember what app that is? I might switch to the Nordic firmware if it's an app I don't use.
It was nothing essentioul. Looked like a sports news app. I removed it. The other problem I had was I had to ask for my internet settings again. But that was no trouble.
I went with Nordic because they seem to get the updates first =/
That's great. If i don't get my 2.1 update by the end of Sep I'll go Nordic .
Firmware I9000XWJM8 is now officially an official firmware.
If your phone is region code TMN, you can upgrade without hacks or test mode by using Kies. The rest of us (should we for some reason want to) can use the hack described in this post.
2.2 ROM? any changelog?
Nice one.
I'm in TMN region.... Still using JM8 without all that TMN provider stuff...

Nope, just another Eclair (albeit a good one). Samsung doesn't really post changelogs, none I've found anyway.

I would not do that, TMN versions are heavly branded...
I would bet that most TMN users in the forum have installed an unofficial ROM just to clean all the branding.

TMN is a telecom in Portugal. Those ROM's are heavly branded, not suitable to non-TMN costumers..

After flashing with KIES are you guys keeping all software and contacts or is everything getting wiped? I'll backup anyway but I just wanted to know beforehand.

Well, when I updated my firmware to DDJG4 here in India via kies, all my data on the phone memory was wiped clean, without any prior information. Yeah, IMO, having a backup ready would be wise irrespective of whether this happens to you or not..
is there a froyo release available for TMN now? my phone is not TMN and I'm not from Portugal, but somehow, my phone upgraded from JM1 to TMN JM8

Have you spoken to NTT DoCoMo about it?
I have not. We're still on 2.3.2 out here, and waiting on .3... doesn't find updates through pc companion either. Maybe I'll give em a call later.

as far as i know,
our region (Indonesia) doesn't seem have that specified firmware (like US, UK, etc).
so, we r using the global generic firmware.
there's no such thing as "Indonesia Firmware".
its global generic firmware.
Indonesia is one of many countries that's using global generic firmware
my arc is made from Singapore, and still, its using generic global firmware.
not "Singapore Firmware" .
hope it helps.

yes. i bought my arc in indonesia, got 2.3.2 by default, OTA to 2.3.3, then flash to generic global .368 (LT15i_4.0.A.2.368_Generic Global.zip).
and when i plug the arc to my pc last week, pc companion says 2.3.4 update is available ! woot
btw, what's the different between arc SO-01C and arc LT15i?
(besides SO-01C is a japanese version)
Nothing. 1-2-5 bands like LT15a. Lots of bloatware but most can be deleted.

That's all with the exception of it is locked to Docomo at purchase, has a japanese keyboard option, one additional static wallpaper (blue/pink) and one additional live wallpaper (ambient time).
and why dont they just make the same firmware.. just too complicated to create special firmware for japan but no big difference at all with the other firmwares.. @[email protected]
who knows..

like chitose_ndy said, why does it took so long to release the 2.3.4 update ?

Well.. looks like japan arc's hardware maybe has something differrent than others..
And.. what will happen if we have the generic arc fw(uk, global, etc) , and flash it with japan fw?
I'm wondering what will happen

You will have a LT15i running Docomo's firmware. From information I gather here, any firmware will work on all three arcs in question, LT15a, LT15i and SO-01C.

Hello all, my phone just recieved updates via PCC (I was previously on 4.2.2). I upgraded and found that the build number is also 423, however more smooth system, espicially the album lag seems to be fixed.
I provide you the ftf link of new .423 HongKong Firmware. This is not uploaded by me (damn speed), but a friend from another forum.
http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=3475709745&uk=4079996535
This link is from China and I am not sure about the speed.
According to some findings by Applo, it seems that the new release does not fix anything.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43292324
while other users find upgrading do fix the album issue. its strange, you can make a backup and try yourself. hope it works

i recall in initial 4.2.2 scrolling in settings was laggy and horrible.

As this is a tiny update, just to address the lags, should I flash it (I've done that once, but nervously) or is it likely to be pushed out fast? I am network unlocked, but using the Spanish 423 on Vodafone UK...

Sorry for being off topic, but, for the love of God, it's LAG with no plural. Just like you wouldn't say two glasses of waters.
It's not a real firmware update, just an update of the customization. Your customization version will have changed from 1270-5695_R2B to 1270-5695_R3B. This just means that Sony has changed something to the bundled apps or the customized settings.
Some weeks ago, this happened to the 'Generic NL' customization too. After updating, the Box app was pre-installed.

You're welcome
The core firmware (basically everything except the bundled apps and the resource overlays) stays the same as long as the build number doesn't change. Only the parts that are specific to the 'Generic HK' customization can be changed by the update.
If you look at the update XML file for 'Generic HK', you'll see that the latest firmware image (for Sony PC Companion and Sony Update Service) is swVersion 10.3.A.0.423 with cdfVersion R3B, while the latest delta update (OTA update) is still swVersion 10.3.A.0.423 with cdfVersion R2B.
I just downloaded this FTF (Generic HK 10.3.A.0.423 R3B) and compared it to the previous version (Generic HK 10.3.A.0.423 R2B).
These are the only differences:
build.prop: 'ro.semc.version.cust_revision=R2B' changed to 'ro.semc.version.cust_revision=R3B'
