PC Companion update

Hey all, I did a search and couldn't find an answer. SE PC Companion is prompting me to update it to version 2.00.142. Should I? Could it block me getting root access later?

Nobody can give you that answer, until somebody has rooted that......
If PC Companion is prompting you to update to some version, then it is PC Companion softwrae and not the Phone's Android System....
So go ahead and update it...

I updated the PC Companion and it has no changes.
Plugged phone in and no firmware update.
Still has same UI and sub-windows as older version.

PCC or SEUS can try to update your phone.
Most of the regions in the wold have no update and Sony has left out them in the dark.
at first I got my phone from Dubai and I even didnt had market in my X10.
but I debranded by phone and installed UK version and now I updated it to latest RIFB001 with Kernal version of 2.6.29 and Baseband of 1.0.21

Can somone explain the OTA update system to me,
I have debranded from .14 to .16 baseband, I run the software update and it tells me that I had the latest, how can Dubai have an update,

I no longer have dubai version, pls read my previous post, on the first debarnd I change it to UK version.
and from there I flash it to X10i Generic NCB (R1FA016) after that simply plug it to the PC companion and it will tell you there is an update available, simple do it. you will be on updated to R1FB001 by SE.

From what I gather, ota updating is an update without connecting to a PC. I'm pretty sure the ota available on jerps thread is for Japanese x10s. I haven't tried that one yet as I'm satisfied so far with the r1fb001.

It is said that the 026 has better speed in Mediascape and Timescape, but i've tried yet, cuz my company wifi is down, haiz.
There is no big change in this new FW as I notice, the baseband is 31 now

wifi radio is better tho aswell

here in Ireland ive got update to 026 as well and no root after update.

Think ill stick with Rooted 024 for now

How did you guys update if your phone was rooted? I know it will lose the root, but how did you update in the first place?

Thats strange, I'm on rooted 024 on O2 here in the UK, if I do an OTA check, it says im on the latest firwamre, did yuo guys update using SEUS?

Flash back to a Generic firmware, using Omnius or whatever. Then use SEUS

Rooted fone will be able going back to original one by redo the step1 (back to 016 FW) after that, OTA or SEUS is depend on your choice

Im on R2BA020 from the southwest of the uk and both OTA and SEUS arent showing an update yet

I'm not rooted and using FW016 and SEUS says my phone is up to date. Am u doing something wrong?

Just updated - Root - xRecovery & Jit V2 OK

well i'm using the hong kong version of X10i and got a better treatment: loaded now with a .024 firmware.
the problem with my SEUS is that it keeps on telling me that a new update is available while it still flashes in the .024 firmware
is it because i've done too much modding in the phone?
i've got JIT, root and the FX10 custom theme installed

Most probably because you flashed the dual-touch update onto your phone.

guess SEUS doesn't like us customizing our phones with 'future' features lol

well i would like to use SEUS to update my phone, as i feel safer doing it =)
(also because i want the chinese rom for obvious reasons, not because my english is not good enough to understand the menus=P)
although i would lose all my root, JIT stuff, I can always use flashtool--->xRecovery to help me customize my phone back

All languages is included in all firmwares. So you won't lose your language. As for SEUS and FlashTool they work equally simple in my opinion.

i understand both methods are just a matter of following the algorithm that we're given
but my belief is that if i'm doing something OEM, then i'm better off doing it using the original OEM software (well in that case i would use the flashtool to mod my phone. not saying that it's not a gd piece of software and in fact, it is really awesome. but i just don't feel safe enough to flash roms into the machine)

I tried update my phone with PC Companion, didn't get the .435, do some reading here and succefully updated.

PC Companion became voices of 0.24 is the current FW for 1232-9897

so does anyone with x10i with nordic or global have the new update via seus or companion ?

Rooted remain.

Why not update via OTA for X arc?

I think there is OTA update for Arc.
But maybe this depends on place (CDA).
And maybe you must be update from .181 (when my NEO was .145 and check update on phone - before reflash fw .181 about few hours - it asked me update via PCC)

Confirmed:
- My friend's NEO has just updated from .145 -> .368 via OTA (76.6Mb)
with the same CDA 1247-0875
(waiting for root info ...)

after each restart, my phone date and time goes back to 1.1.1980

I don't know which on you're using, but I just checked for updates on UK Generic .184 and Global Generic .181, and both OTA updates are still for .145 and not .368. (Going by the download size which is ~40MB)

Lol all I get ota is 'could not connect to server'.

The OP says he got it through Sony PC Companion, so that means he already has the necessary files on his hard disk to create an FTF.

This is what I've been waiting for a long time..But since bell was on 4.1 before this update, I went ahead and loaded the unbranded 4.3 uk rom from xda. Now my PCC says my phone is up to date. How do i get the bell rom now? do i have to load the original 4.1.2 bell rom from here first and then try PCC for 4.3 update? will that brick my phone ..(going back to 4.1)

You'll have to flash back to 4.1.2 bell (wipe your data) then I believe you can upgrade to 4.3. Unless he can provide an FTF to us, that is

Can you please upload the FTF? I dont want to wipe my phone to go back to 4.1.2 and then do the upgrade via PCC (I'm already with the generic UK 4,3 rom)

So far its great, no issues as of yet, never had alot ot time to play around with it, but so far so good,
very similar to the journalists one,
