Hi fellas,
I'm fairly new to those forums.. and have done a search but nothing comes up (both google and forum) does anyone know which, if any, after-market touch pens or stylus will work with our Xperia X10's?
Seems, I occasionally seem to have issues trying to press links on various web-pages and it's cause some frustration!! Not to mention unnecessary page reloads.
.. I don't have any issues with typing however but I'm sure this thread would benefit those who do, right?
1. So what are our options?
2. Is there anything?
3. Anyone tried any of them??
4. How they perform?
Sony Ericsson Stylus available on eBay..
Personally, I've tried using my stylus from my UMPC (Fujitsu), and X10 does not respond to it.
But, maybe the tip is too small?
I thought about stylus, but have decided against, I think finger is fine.
Re: touching wrong link, try zooming the page first...
I can get my X11 to occasinally work with a standard cotton wool bud... doens't work when there's grease on the display however!
The x10 is a capacitive screen not a resistive one, hence why the stylus doesn't work.

i think this will be fine for X10

You can use an iphone stylus, anyone will work. Bestbuy has them, pretty much every electronic superstore.
funny though, an ipod shuffle works as a stylus
One of these will probably work...

Thanks Yetep, on the safe side, I think I'll go invade the local vodafone shop / carphone whorehouse... I'm pretty sure they won't mind. Perhaps they'll have something useful.
its okay. I can only appreciate the fact that a picture with sausages doesn't help when you need a hand. because the screen works on conductive technology, ie needs to touch something that conducts like your finger or metal, things like plastics, or sausages, won't work.
The question to all Streak users - since the device is quite big, how do you make calls/answer the incoming calls? Do you feel uncomfortable using the device? Please, vote in the poll as well.
I hold it to my head, yeah I said it. I do get wierd stares though. At least the screen turns off when your ear touches. Long conversations I always use ear piece though.
It actually does not feel bad holding it as a phone. And since the Streak is so large, the mic for the mouth piece is very close to my mouth.

People laugh at me until I pull it feom my ear and they see how awesome the screen is etc. Then it ecomes eye candy. I had it 2 weeks ago at an ATT store and omeone asked how I was talking on a PSP. Then I showed them what it qas and they just loved it. Almost everyone in the store hax to play with it lol.

Yeah, that's really funny!!! When my colleague (he is very slim guy) saw my Streak for the first time he also compared it with PSP then took my phone and rashed to the mirror holding it at his ears. I said that he looks ugly - this phone is not intended for slim guys with small heads...
I almost always use a bluetooth headset to talk on my streak.
I just started using mine today. It doesn't feel as weird as I thought it would holding it to my face.

Does not bother me one bit i am very proud i have it
For long teleconferences I always use a headset no matter what the phone.
For short social calls I use the Streak directly.
I think the "people staring" thing is a myth, it's just me being awkwardly self-conscious and propagating the myth.
I do think it would be tough to market the Streak as a phone though because of the built-in prejudices everyone has that things must be smaller/thinner/faster etc. But it will struggle as a tablet because iPad pretty much is the baseline.
So Dell have an opportunity to define their own category and be the first in it. I hope they're smart enough not to kill the Streak but to stick at it and own the category.

you right! Even it isn't a myth, what do I care what they think. My Streak is better that their sorry excuse for a phone. They can kiss my a**. I dont tell them what to use. I gave up worrying about image a long time ago :-D

was going to reply to the OP query with "my mouth" but I'm feeling less sardonic than usual..
my mate was playing with my streak the other day and said "what you really hold it up to your ear?" then he gave it back to me and when I held it up to my ear he said "ok so it looks like a normal sized phone when you hold it"
I guess it helps if you can wrap your hand around it so that I can quite comfortably over touch forefinger to thumb in portrait mode...
the Streak isn't big.. all the other phones are abnormally small
I also just hold it to my ear and take calls. The only annoying part is not the size but my ear browsing the internet or playing with my home screens. It seems better with 2.1
It is an excellent phone. Even better now I use adw launcher instead of of the Dell screens

I use my Dell streak directly. it's perfectly fine. The only people that tend to snicker are IPhone users. this is easily solved. I often say say "let's compare phones... Mine can do more useful stuff than your Iphone.." whan asked "like what?"..... I remove the battery and put my spare in. Obviosly, they cant do that and go away sulking...

No, there are 2 proximity sensors. Please, read the User Manual pg. 10.
I have no reservations to hold it on my face and talk and don't face any issues while doing it...who cares what others think

Oh. It's hidden very good under the plastic. On my N900 proximity sensor had a visible window.
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Dell-Streak-Teardown/3512/2 - Step 12, yellow one
But where's the other one?
I use the Streak as a phone by holding the thing up to my head. I don't give a $#!+ what anyone thinks when they see me using it this way. Middle age and a happy marriage do have their advantages (wait, I used to have of those... maybe I'm on a winning streak now).

I hold it up to my ear and make sure they see the Dell logo... then have a look on my face that says, "my phone is better than your phone" look; or "unlike your iPhone, no one else has this **** in Canada" look.

This is weird but pretty sure there's an explanation. The screen on the x10 is touch sensitive so no pressure is needed to move or type things right. It's all in the electrons running through your veins.
I was talking to my gf on speaker phone when I happened to breath on the screen of my phone.
I noticed that my beautiful home widget suddenly moved
and I felt the phone vibrate.
I started to mess around trying to change screens just by breathing on the screen...and..
Bingo I managed to swipe the desktop screen without touching the screen or any buttons.
** I didn't blow on the screen I breathe air, like when you fog up a window, and it has to be very warm LOL.
Someone confirm this please, its kinda cool when you consider that your not really doing nething physical to the device, just air. Why does this happen?

Welcome to the exciting world of Capacitive Touchscreens!
can't seem to do it is it cos I've got a screen protector on?? BTW I have come from the HTC Reboot (aka desire) forum section - so I'm knew to this part of town
You all have way to much time on your hands! I love it! My new pick up like.. hey baby breath on my handy please. No really..
Yeah, it really sucks when I'm crank-calling someone...
I try to breathe heavily into the phone, but it bloody causes me to hang up...
Give me resistive touch screen for crank-calling any day...!
i think i need more oxygen,,, it makes me exhausted!!!!!!!!!
Breath in ,,,, Breath out
mmmmmmmm, i can imagine
imagine the games you can create with this. Got it working on my phone,
The question is.. what were you doing breathing so heavily on the phone to your Mrs ;-)
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Oh boy glad you guys find this interesting..
To the person who has the screen protector it probably does affect the sensitivity but I also have a protector and I can still get it to work, just breeeathe lol.
X10 just keeps surprising me :-D

LOL after I found this out I asked myself that same question lol, but she didn't even notice the breathing so I must have been trying to clean the screen.

Dude, it's a mobile only the germans call them Handy's
I guess my screen protector is spoiling my fun - or maybe I'm just not hot-blooded enough
I even tried a bit of sweet talkin', but she wasn't giving me an inch...
Try after a cup o tea: )
What I hate about the X10 touch screen is using it or trying to when its raining ...try that ... calls get made when you dont need them widgets get placed when you wasnt even trying letters get typed with raindrops its a pita
Haha!!
This is just for fun!
You can fool your XPERIA for quick unlocking!
Please don't SPAM!
It's just a joke!!
Have a look at the video-
LINK
Please click the 'Thanks' button if you like!
Lol, it works Funny bug
This should be in general section. This is not a bug per se, it's a limitation in the screen that allows you to do this. This also works in 'Fruit Ninja', allowing you to cut by tapping your fingers rather than swiping.
I know this i use it for fast unlocking and isnt bug.

This area of the forum is for posts from developers, As far as I can see you haven't "developed" anything new. So before you rant at somebody pay more attention as to what you're doing. Sticking to forum rules are abit more important than sticking to your thread rules don't you think?
omg..
It is becouse we have singlTouch. open MultiTouch visualizer and press one finger, after press second finger, then raise first finger. OP! and touch teleport to second finger.
same effect in notebook's touchpad's))
Only I played "teleport cursor" on notebook? =D
Even touchpads in new notebooks have multitouch :-( se, screw u :-(

...i dont think that this cant be done on multy touch. The paraments are just diferent. The screen sent signals and the software has to deside what these signals are. So when screen sent a signal from a point and then in a small time diference sents an other, this is translated as a finger swin.
Now for the two fingers and when you lift one it teleport the touch... Our touch screen work with electic... (i cant explain it in english) when you touch 2 fingers "ghost" touches appears, making a square with your other 2 fingers.
So all this are not bugs but the paraments of what is swin and what touch could have been set in a better way.
To see that paraments exist, just touch you angle an phone screen and there will be no click as the surface will be too big to be a finger. (thats how x8 gesture- fake pinch zoom works, starts when the surface touched is a little bigger from the normal)

LOL..nice video
i always open it that way now..funny
Just found this out, excuse me if you already knew this.
1. Go to your home screen (or any scrollable area)
2. Press the S-Pen nib with your finger and try scrolling without touching the screen.
PROFIT! :good:
PS: You can also press the nib with Airview to click/tap an item
Probably not gonna use it often, but cool to know
I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean. I tried and nothing happens. My S-Pen scrolls pges without touching if I go towards the edge of the screen. Top,bottom, lef or right´

Did you try pressing the nib and swiping in the air (holding it relatively close to the screen, obviously)? It does bring swype like functionality, as opposed to edge scroll. Also you can just press the nib to click without touching the screen.
Probably pointless, but it's fun
To me this just sounds like an extra sensitive pen to me.
If you bring up the keyboard, does it press on keys without touching them?

So it's just me who's able to tap/swype without touching the screen and just pressing the nib?

I found another.... just get a small tape nd keep to the nib.....
so you can use the airview and airtouch with touching the mobile
petty easy

If this is problem for you than try this trick.
Hit your spen nib on hard surface .lightly off course. .
This happens because nib is stuck.
my S pen did this.
good trick.. But some times its awkward to hold the nib like that
