Am I reading right or is this my imagination? The galaxy line will no longer have samoled. Instead it will have tft.

That's the Galaxy Player, not the SGS.
they might do the same play again in the future, but not now.
when Galaxy S 'HD" or whatever they gonna call it in the future, chances are they will stop the SAMOLED on the old Galaxy S line, to make all the new Galaxy S "HD" with SAMOLED
just like what they did with the Galaxy Wave; HTC did the same move with Desire to make Desire like ****, and make the new Desire "HD" looks better
thread title is misleading.
This is just another Samsung Galaxy line product.
There are some many Samsung Galaxy xxxx product now
- Galaxy Spica
- Galaxy
- Galaxy S
- Galaxy Tab
- Galaxy A
and this Galaxy Player, all of them target at different market segment with different price.
you forgot to list
Galaxy 5 series
and
Galaxy 3 series

I know you are just speculating, but I disagree. They are hitting record investment for building new facilities that are being launched. They will be able to keep up with their own supply when the successor to the SGS comes out, while being able to pull an Apple and push the Galaxy S to free (pretty easy in the U.S. seeing as how Amazon already sells them for that) or $99 on contract. Samsung has always been a glutton for size, that's how they became the largest phone manufacturer in the U.S. market in 2010. Having Super AMOLED in only their highest end phone means they will only be catering to the highest end market, they'd love to cut the bottom out from under the LGs and HTCs on the low-end while still keeping up the pace on the high end.
So, if they grow faster (maybe much faster, but I'm not quite sure their supply slack) than they expect, you will end up being right. If they grow the way they are predicting I think the SGS will have SAMOLED until they stop supplying the devices. Just my opinion though. And reportedly it'll be about another 18 months until anyone else gets their hands on SAMOLED.

Hey guys, apologies in advance if I'm in the wrong place.
My gf is just about to upgrade her device and wants to go to a droid phone but doesn't want the extra cost to get a galaxy S, but she's determined to stay with a samsung device.
So, we checked out her options, and one offered by t-mo uk is the galaxy apollo. Now, I've never heard of that device, and its not listed here or wikipedia, but there are some reviews that say its running eclair and the model number i5801, which led me to this forum, thinking its a spicia variant(like how the galaxy s has the fascinate and so on)
So yeah, is the apollo an updated spicia or a cut down galaxy S or what ? And how comes no-one seems to be talking about the device. The reviews seem to indicate that it would have launched in the past couple of months but apparently to no great interest.
So yes... I figure that someone here will know what this device actually is and if there is anyone developing for it, or if its just a flash in the pan that isn't worth investing in.
Cheers guys, sorry for rambling!

well it's better than the spica that it has a radio,
and lesser than the spica that it has a very less resolution, and the processor is slower.
a friend of mine just bought it and after using the spica i was not impressed with the screen clarity when compared to the spica, but a good value for money phone, considering it costs around 12,000 INR.
also it has the samsung's touchwiz which i personally hate ...
I would suggest the Acer Liquid, one hell of a phone if the budget permits, with a lot of devs working on the liquid.

Ah, so its definitely not actually a Spicia device then... Anyone know if it is developed for at all ?
Don't get me started on exactly why she HAS to stay with a samsung device and HAS to stay on her current network. If I could get her a Spicia (i think they call it Portal here) then I would, but alas the choice is between Jet, Wave and Apollo. Since Jet and Wave are basically feature phones with pretensions, at least the Apollo gives her the app store, proper email and internet and well... all the reasons why droid is a good thing .
^ As of now I have not seen any development on the Apollo.
i have Sony X10, Galaxy S, and I5700
Please get Galaxy S, you won't regret it.
it's got one of the best touch screen (sesitivity and accuracy)
I got i5700 as a backup android for my GalaxyS and I can't stand the small screen and screen inacuracy,
worst is Sonyericsson X10.
it's a total garbage.
After owning the galaxy there's no question in my mind most of us will remain with Samsung and android especially people who use custom Roms. But what's next after having this amazing phone?
It has been a year now since I've had mine, and obviously its soon time to upgrade.
For me I think ill skip the galaxy Note... I don't think its worth the upgrade just yet.
CES is just round the corner, and something else after that I think? I'm holding out to see whether Samsung's planning an SIII for this half of the year. We've already seen a supposed leaked shot taken from a device with the product code i9500 from inside a Samsung office.... It seems fairly probable that we'll see something by February as we have for the last 2 years. What are other peoples thoughts?
Personally, I am really disappointed with Samsung leaving 10 million plus SGS owners off the ICS train (especially because of their touchwiz that sucks), and I wanna show it to them by not buying their products. I'm still waiting for a stable custom ics sgs rom. I would have eyed the galaxy nexus, but it kind of bothers me that it's samsung. but it does not have the touchwiz and will get updates fast.
I'm quite fed up with the so called android fragmentation, but don't want to go the apple way. I want more nexus-like products with clean android and fast updates. Guess I'm screwed...

Im hoping the S3 isn't too far around the corner. As much as I would have gone for the recent Nexus S or whatever it is, its specs leave me cold. No memory slot? Pfft.

After one year with my SGS I'm still totally satisfied with it. I can read ebooks, play games or watch movies without any problems. Currently I don't need more memory, higer resolution screen or multicore processor. But perhaps when SGS III hits the market and devs/modders will start playing with it, I'll probably buy it.
I'm waiting for the s3. Hope it is announced at the CES

To OP: Wait for the SIII. The Note is just ridiculously oversized for a phone. I have seen people talking on it, and it looks stupid. You might as well walk around with a laptop stuck to your face. That way, at least no one can tell who you are.
I'm waiting. For the moment i'm satisfied with my Galaxy S. No need (for me) to buy a new one. And there will be new Roms for it,too.
The Galaxy note isn't a Smartphone - it's a very small tablet. For a smartphone it's too big, and for a tablet too small. Odd product.
SGS3. Nothing else.

I think I'm lucky in that my contract ends in November and when I sign up for a new one (not sure with whom yet), I will get a new phone. If the S3 comes out in the 1st half of 1012, by November, it will be less expensive and I can get it cheaper.
I am super happy with my SGS and for what I use my phone for, I don't really need a new one, but I guess for 4G or LTE it's worth it, and it will be cheap since I will get it on a contract.
Ian
same here i can change phone in december, and am waiting for post ces releases to see what comes next, anything with tegra 3 or samsungs equivalent
will be waiting for galaxy S III,should be a spectacular device.
am thinking of the galaxy nexus or galaxy s III
Seems a bit soon to me, but in absence of the SGS3 announcement at MWC I keep seeing rumours about the appearance of something called the Note S, which apparently is an upgraded model of the Note. I cannot see the logic of this, I mean what is there other than maybe a bigger battery that requires an upgrade to be produced so soon?
No way will they announce an upgraded Note at MWC. The gs3 is far ahead of any note upgrade.

Well I agree. But I wonder why there seem to be so many of these rumours about it. Only the other week I saw one along the lines that it would be Samsung's big announcement now at MWC.

Samsung has become a very rich and greedy. His only care about earnings and soulless marketing.
I think at mwc, Samsung will not reveal any high end phones. apparently there is no Samsung keynote this year? At best they might announce a new tablet.
Samsung plays MWC low-key: No press conference planned
"Samsung has confirmed that not only will the company’s much-anticipated Galaxy S III not be making its debut at Mobile World Congress this month, but that the Korean firm has no press conference planned at the Barcelona show whatsoever. Despite high-profile and expensive launches in previous years, Samsung is playing the 2012 show low-key it confirmed to PCMag, though new products are expected to be revealed."
Pink note and vibrate can't be turned off. And styles is now a spent holder and has a build in vibrator for your "calls". S pen is pink too and on the button is a big ;-) so you can configured vibration to slow and fast.

With a version just now coming to the USA and Canada... announcing a 2nd Generation would seem to hurt those sales.
Besides, the international model is still very new.
One thing is for sure; I'm a Note user for life. I look fwd to Generation 2.
Hi all, newbie here.
Thread resurrection.
Any new info on next version of Galaxy Note or Galaxy S3?
I have an iphone4 and am tired of the small screen.
I'm considering the Note, Galaxy S3 and Lumia 900.
I have tons of apps for my iphone, but use them mostly on my ipad3.
The Lumia 900 is available, cheap and seems to be a very good phone.
I'm in awe of Note screen but don't want to get it if the new one will be available in 6 months.
I'm intrigued by android as I've always been a geek and like screwing around with things.
New phone, new phone..... I love that feeling. Saying that, I still get it often with this beast.
I doubt they'll announce a note successor until the fall. I reckon this announcement will be the s3, which will probably be similar to GNexus but quad core, and no doubt trounce the htc one x.... Too soon? Sorry.
If you're interested in win phone, I'm using launcher 7 which imitates it perfectly and adds features too, so if you want limited hardware, go for it, but android keeps your options open. And the tech in you will no doubt be dissapointed with win phone.
Also worth consideration, they're working on a full ubuntu server that runs when docked... On Android of course, so things really are heading towards laptop replacement. It's exciting. The note is awesome! I reckon the s3 will be tasty too, but I can't move away from this screen
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
even if they release new Note , honestly I am not gonna upgrade unless.
1. MUCH better display, like no more pentile and no more color banding
2. MUCH more battery efficient display and processor
3. better volume rocker/power button placement
4. no more hardware buttons
5. smaller or even none screen bezel
to me, Note is pretty much perfect (in ICS), if they only release a new note with faster or quad processor. Honestly I will not be interested. (which many manufacture intend to do as an "upgrade".

Samsung will unveil the next Galaxy Phone - May 3
http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/16/samsung-will-unveil-the-next-galaxy-phone-may-3rd-in-london/
So is he implying that Samsung will start new line of mobiles not called Galaxy S with the new ‘so much anticipated’ device by Samsung? Find out and judge reading whole article.

IMHO that is what he is implying . new line of devices, maybe highest/exclusive/vip shelf - very expensive, superb design. strong metal casing like in wave not that plastic crap from galaxy s series, latest tech specs latest gorilla and so on. and ofc as leaks shows galaxy series will still be developed but as a mid class of mobiles with crappier plastic casing and not so high tech spec and design.
I think this guy has no clue but decided that selling more Notes is a good thing anyway.
Galaxy note is just S2 on steroids. It is not a successor.

At the rate samsung pops out phones... most of the devices are nothing but successors... so dont expect much... even if there is S3 there will be another S3+ after that... making the previous device obsolete within weeks to month..

They are not absolute successors. I think Samsung has a motto, a phone for every need. And that is what they have been doing. And quite surprisingly ask if their phones sell very well.
Definitely there will be a S3+, but not so soon. There has not been a solid S2+ it anything and it has been an year since the phone launched. And all these phones well not interfere with their flagship device as they will be priced much lesser with inferior features.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
keep also in mind that this guy is vp for uk and ireland... yet
i still stand my ground with opinion that the device that is so much anticipated will be launched before olympics and iphone and might be inderpendent and new line of products with some exclusive smooth and solid (ceramic metal) design and latest exynos 4core creating something like exclusive top shelf phones with all them low budget like galaxy ace 2, mid range like sgs 2,g note and the new device creating the bleeding edge expensive samsung phone
we will see
Can't say for sure where to post this, but in case anyones forgotten, Samsung Unpacked 2012 is later today. We know that they are likely to announce the SGS2 successor and perhaps another mystery phone. Fingers crossed for ICS on the Note?

A comparison between the S2, the SGnex and the S3 : http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/03/galaxy-s-iii-whats-changed/
Quite happy I've didn't wait for it and took the Note instead, don't really care about quad-core, as it seems (almost) the only benefit of the S3.
I'm really underwhelmed and disappointed by the SGS3 announcement as this is our first glimpse of what may power the Note successor.
I'm not so much disappointed with the chipset as I am with the pentile screen - I guess the rumors of upgrading to a screen in between pentile and traditional RGB subpixel arrangement were nothing but fluff.
I really am starting to think that I will just skip the Note2 and head straight for the Note3.
Ha, Ha. Samsung is done. A 4.8inch? Two large for a phone. I believe 4" to 4.5" is the best. If you want a phone and tablet, go to note. iPhone 5 will be a winner.
YES! Looks like i'm keeping my baby! I can finally stress down and wait till september/october for the Note 2 aka The Best One.

hehe i will keep my note as well
i mean the s3 is not a bad phone.
but its still hasnt 5.3" and an s-pen^^
i greatly dislike the physical buttons of the s3. i'd be interested in it, but i wanna get rid of the physical buttons the next phone i buy.
like the other guy said in the sgs3 forum we just got 'Iphone 4S'd by Samsung. how could they say inspired by nature? the phone looks plasticky and Tw launcher is simply FUGLY, If they do the same to the note 2.

As they currently sell the most smartphones in the world, I think the threat is already there. The SIII isn't going to dent those sales anytime soon. I think it looks smart, especially the blue version.
Have to agree with a number of comments. My Note will definitely not be going anywhere. I got my hopes up near the end when they said 'one more surprise' but alas...
I was surprised to see the hardware buttons in place. I thought ICS and the GNex would have pushed Samsung away from it. Hardware and software seem fine, but barring the social stuff (which I'm personally not really interested in) the camera and some of the awareness functions like staying awake and smart notifications seem interesting and I don't think there is a good reason those functions shouldn't be on the Note.
Just remembered one more cool thing they need to port to the Note, the scrolling toggles in the drop down notifications. And quite a funny voice 'test' from Android Central below.

Samsung will saturate the market with sgs3, they will sell a large quantity(expect cheap sgs3 within 3 months of release) but they will loose the brand value, similar to how htc host its foot on android(remember they were the largest manufacturer of android). the only thing they have going for them is their exclusive access to superamoled, but i think with rendering issues in samoled (needless to say plasticky body) my next device is unlikely to be a Samsung.
I think the camera app functionalities sound great and all the S voice thing too even if it's a "Samsung's Siri"
What's the chance that the Galaxy Note ICS official update will include these features?
If not, what's the chance of port?
