[Q] MMS Vodafone UK - unknown network error - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi;
so i have been mega impressed with android on my hd2 and pretty much use it in place of winmo now, the only problem i have is MMS doesnt work.
Has anyone got mms to work on vodafone uk ? Im running froyo, and have a good data connection for email/internet etc. I have also set the phone to get data when roaming (as a search here showed some people had problems with that), no luck still!
Thanks for any help;
andy

when i try and access the access point names section in settings i get this error message;
The application settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Force close
I cant check the data settings, but i do have the internet / data working. Anyway i can get this working?

MMS Not Working

Hello, sorry if I am double posting. After 3 years of WM 2003 I went for it. Helmi - thank you - Xplode, thank you.
My Blue Angel is almost perfect. MMS does not work though. Every time I hit send/receive I get an "Error Synchronising" It does not even try to connect to the GPRS connection I tell it to. I have tried with your original ROM and cabs and also with Xplode's cabs - How do I install an xml file anyway?
I have searched XDA, Google Blah Blah, no luck.
Thanks for listening,
Los.
you need to install the 2 MMS files inside the cabs2.rar from The original WM6 release thread.
Then you'll need to setup your MMS and GPRS server settings.
Ive tried installing ArcsoftMMS and MMSenabled cabs but still not working.. and i installed a network wizard for my network configurations but still cant send..
MMS
Yep - mine seems to have a problem that even though I tell it to use my GPRS connection in the settings, MMS does not fire up the connection when I do a send/receive.
MS
Hi - got it to connect to the GPRS and it says "Sending" but it does not send (stays in the outbox). I also receive notifications that I have an MMS message but I cannot receive it.
Any ideas - I have gone through the settings with my provider and they appear correct?

Checking email when not on Wifi not working?

Hi there,
I have set up my POP3 email account on my HD (though have set to leave messages on server) and it works fine on Wifi (checks, downloads, sends, etc). However when I'm not on Wifi and I'm on TMobile data (HSDPA, 3G, GPRS, etc), I get an error when I try send and receive. It comes up with "error synchronising" and a popup appears at the top saying...
"Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings." If I go into settings, I get the list of connections, but can't see anything in there that needs changing. I'm on T-Mobile in the UK, and it lists "T-Mobile Internet" and "My Work Network". If I go into the T-Mobile Internet settings everything seems fine in there. And it all works when I go into the web browser, or Youtube app, etc.
Its almost as if the mail app doesn't have access to the data connection unless its over Wifi. Is there something I'm missing, or an area where you can tell it when to use the data connection? I've even tried manually enabling the data connection through the comm manager (rather than it starting when an app needs it), then switching to mail and clicking send/receive - still the same error.
Thanks,
Dave
Can anyone help me? I'm not sure whether its connected but I also have a problem where another programme (Lotus Notes Traveller client) doesn't seem to be able to get access to the internet connection on the phone, regardless of whether its Wifi, 3G or anything else.
Thanks.
this may sound odd but bare with me! i can get on the net and emails but my hd would not check emails when in standby no matter what i did. I then realised i couldnt send or receive mms messages! all the settings seemed ok. Anyway in my mms connection i changed the wap setting to 1.2 from 2 and my mms worked! But since then my phone now checks email in standby! I didnt realise they were connected but may be worth checking.
Gav
How do you change that wap setting. I have the same problem, but on T-Mobile USA
Hi,
I found I could sync emails using Wi-Fi ok but got the dreaded "failed to sync" message when using the GPRS method. I am also on T-Mobile.
The problem is T-mobile only let's you send emails using there smtp.
You need to go into the email options menu and keep clicking through the settings until you get to the send using smtp box, here you need to type smtp.t-email.co.uk
This will send mail using the T-mobile network.
Please post back if this helps
Grez
Thank you - works perfectly for me! Good call!

Flashing ROM has caused me to not be able to connect to email

Hi,
I've recently flashed from the Compact V rom to the latest stock rom.
I've managed to re set up the data connection and am able to connect to the internet through T-Mobile, however, I cannot connect to my yahoo account any more. I just get a message "Error Synchronizing".
I've tried resetting the settings and recreating the account to no avail.
You can send the settings to your phone on the T-Mobile site via SMS, however, the messages are not being received to my phone, the first one comes through saying "You will receive another message shortly, enter 1234 as the PIN" but the 2nd message never comes through.
Has anyone else has the same issue?
Thanks
i had or have the same problem. you need a .cab called tmobileukfixed or t-mobileuk it sends you the t-mobile settings so u can use the mms as well. ps if you getting low signal ie gprs then that has been my problem before and i think it rom specific although im not an expert.
I find unchecking the 'uses a proxy' in the connection settings allows me access to more, like Live services etc
T-Mobile also
WasStoNed thanks, this resolved the issue.

Thanks for the file!! Did this solve the problem with some text messages not being sent aswell? I seem to be OK to send to some numbers, but not others.
Dont know if its network related or not.
The 2 issues with sending messages and error sync are not related, the error sync is caused by the proxy settings box becoming ticked and the 149.xx.xx.xx ip becoming active this is tmobile public address transaltion server, just un check the proxy box in settings if the problem occurs!!

[32A] MMS and 3G cannot work simultaneously

Hello,
I'm a happy (well, more on that later) user of HTC Magic powered by CursorSense 1.2.6.1 and i have quite a problem with getting MMS messages while being connected to 3g network.
- i cannot send/recieve MMS messages when connected to 3G network
- i can send/recieve MMS messages when connected to WiFi and/or disconnected from 3g network
- Settings are ok, they're working fine on friend's HTC Hero (stock 1.5), using my sim card
- i have tried setting 'default' in 'apn type' account as well as leaving it blank
- while trying to get the MMS message i can see the 3G icon disappear for a brief second which would indicate that the phone tries to use second apn (the one for mms), but fails
- i have tried combining 2 profiles into one, did not work
- i have tried reflashing the ROM after full wipe
- it used to work, but suddenly stopped
- i have tried handcent, stompsms and built in messaging app
- i'm not using apndroid
- i have tried calling HTC help desk, told me to check my apn settings, same thing was said by my orange help desk
Anyone had a problem like that and got the solution?
I would greatly appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

First, you should check you apn setting.
Then try this: use "phone" and input *#*#4636#*#*
Phone information ->go to the last line"toggle DNS check" 0.0.0.0, if it is not allowed, please convert it to allowed.
like this:
0.0.0.0 not allowed ->0.0.0.0 allowed
Good luck!
holy ****.. i never knew about this.. thanks dude..
thank you stuart2008.
I have changed the setting you have mentioned to allow dns check but situation is still the same.
I've made some screenshots, i hope they're helpful.

OK, try this:
in the "Access Point Names",
select "MMs Orange",
then go to the last line"APN type", select it.
Change "mms" to "default", press "ok",
press "menu", select "save"
Then you will back to the forth picture's interface, select the round bottun behind the "MMs Orange".
Remember, when you want to use internet, you must change back to "Orange Internet"
Hope this is useful to you!
Thank you for your reply.
I am fully aware of how to enable MMS or Internet access, the thing is that i want them both working at the same time.
I don't even have to set mms apn to default i only have to disable my regular internet apn for MMS' to work.
Still, i cannot use both services at the same time.
I just had a customer with a non-3.5mm Mytouch 3G that wasn't recieving MMSs. I found this thread, toggled the DNS check to allow, and it fixed the problem. T-Mobile tech support has been working with her to fix this problem for a while and even replaced her phone once already. Thanks for helping me solve her problem!!

Some apps not triggering HSPDA connection

Hi all, got my new HD2 yesterday, got phonealarm, TOMTOM7 and a few other apps loaded plus all the HTC patches and latest ROM. Its an HTC branded phone on T Mobile PAYG.
When I go to check my e-mail, it pops up asking me to check my data settings with a dismiss button. When I try and use Twitter it says the service is temporary unavailable. When I use the Weather to update I get a similar message.
Browsing and FB are fine, I have requested the T mobile settings but they arrive as a voicemail message which is odd. Any ideas?
Thanks all.
tmo uk use a proxy, which is the first thing to turn off,
settings menu all settings connections* connections manage existing connections proxy tab untick uses a proxy.
try that, if that doesnt work, at the * point above, there should be a 'connection setup' app. Give that a try, but dont forget running it will probably re apply the proxy.
Genius maty, works a treat now. Also my twitter is now working. Could you explain why unticking it works? Cheers.
i'd assume its to do with the proxy traffic shaping in some way. i believe tmo compress images too,
Its the fault it did'nt even try, just popped up with the connections error and the dismiss button.
Just tried it again, fine, goes onto 3G, jumps to H, then checks mail no prob.
Only other thing to sort its the weather, it picks up my local town which is coded in. But the "my location" won't work. I get a connection error Retry YES or NO. Get this regardless of whether its wireless or active sync.
