So I rooted Stock 2.2 recently and began using ADW launcher on my phone. However, now when I receive texts, I no longer see the unread count within the text icon. I highly doubt this is due to root and must be something with ADW.
Has anyone else experienced this and is there a setting that I'm missing within ADW that enables/disables this feature?
On a sidenote, I flash netanarchy's 4.1.9 kernel the other day and love it! So glad I took the plunge to root and flash a kernel. Absolutely love my phone now.
Mail app doesn't seem to have an unread count either. Anyone else using ADW and don't have unread counts for texts/mail?

I've been having lag recently withing the SMS app. I will open it up and it's slow/sluggish and it takes my contacts pictures a while to load.
I know there are SMS apps like Handcent and Chomp, but I'm not a big fan of them. They've deleted all my texts multiple times and the interface looks cheap to me.
I delete my SMS threads every week or so and I do not have a lot of MMS messages in these threads. Does anyone else have this problem? Or better yet, have a fix for it?
Thanks.

I use handcent every day since the DX was released and it has never deleted any of my texts...and you can change the interface as well. And for what it's worth, haven't noticed any lag with it either. I just love the quick reply
Had a similar problem with my contact list...it was because I had removed atcmd.apk. Have you removed any bloatware?
Handcent > Stock messaging app
And if it deleted all your texts, you probably hit the delete button
I have removed bloatware so I'll need to check into that.
As for Handcent; it deleted all of my SMS messages twice. It originally did it to my friend, but I figured he was the one at fault. Shortly after that my texts got deleted. This never happened on the Droid X, only on the original Droid.
I just don't like the way the Handcent interface looks on my X, even though the stock SMS app is hideous in its own right.
i agree with you whole heartedly. i dont like chomp or handcent.. i know a lot of people do.. good for them. but i really want just the stock android 2.2 messaging.
I have the same problem. If I get a text notification and I select it from the pull down notification bar it takes forever to load. I've used hand cent and I got even more loading lag with that app so I uninstalled it. I'm wondering if its my conversation sizes or I'm running or of ram

How does DX handle deleted messages? I was just wondering bc I am used to Sense on WinMo and I would delete my messages - but then I noticed one day it stored all my deleted messages as well. Go figure.
Does DX work the same way? (haven't got mine yet) I mean could it be that you have hundreds of deleted texts hiding somewhere waiting to be emptied like on HTC Sense/WinMo?
I just wanted to let you guys know that I installed the MMS.apk package from the original Droid Cyanogen 5.0.8 build, and it works swimmingly. I used Titanium Backup to backup and remove the Motorola Text Messaging app and have seen no issues.
Also, if any of you have had a problem with receiving messages 2 or 3 at a time, (duplicates) this solved that problem for me.
hey where can i get my hands on that MMS.apk? please
Does anyone know if any of the custom roms fix the long text message (EMS) limitation of the Fascinate?
A friend sent me a long text message (over 160 chars but shorter than 300 chars) and received the following message back from VZW... "Message delivered to <number> as plain text. Destination does not support enhanced messaging service.
This never happened with my DROID 1 and supposedly Samsung is fixing this in a future release. However, I am not a patient person.
thanks
so far no custom rom has resolved this issue to my knowledge.
Handcent corrects it.
If Handcent corrects it then I must be doing something wrong.
I have the stock ROM rooted, deBing'd, running ADW Launcher and Handcent and still get the EMS errors. Handcent is set as my default app for messaging. Is there a Handcent setting I missed to correct this?

There are settings to parse messages above 160. Perhaps it's a desperate issue that I haven't experienced.

I have been getting this as well. Handcent user. Kinda lame, but nothing to write home about.

There is an option in Handcent to split messages over 160 character. It even provides a countdown when composing a message so you know when it will be split. Really nice feature!
Thanks for the tips, I will dig around in Handcent and see if it resolves the issue.
I am having a right mare! I use Handcent, however I keep getting dual notifications. One from Handcent and one from the stock SMS App. I have turned off Notifications from within the stock App and still they come through.
I have even gone so far as removing the MMS/SMS App with root explorer and still they persist. It is frankly driving me mental. I want to keep ONLY the Handcent one.
Can anyone suggest anywhere to look? I am rooted with Pauls R10 Modaco ROM!
You forgot to disable notifications from the stock app settings which I believe are connected to but not accessible from the stock settings.

Same issue I had. I went into the stock messaging app, under menu, settings, notifications, unchecked the box. That worked for me.

As per the original title I have gone into the Stock App and settings menu from there and disabled them and they still pop up.
You actually did not mention that and frankly I'm inclined to believe that it is still the issue as there would be no other reason I can think of why they would be coming up.

On second thoughts I wonder if this is coming from Elsewhere
If I enable notifications in the stock App I get The smiley face symbol with sender name and message, Handcent notification AND a 3rd one which seems to be the problem one. This simply sats You have New Message(s) You have an unread message. Also when the SMS is read this does not go away either
So where the hell is that one coming from LOL?

You mean when you enable notifications you get a 3rd popup that is the smiley face in a chat bubble? What happens when you open the unknown notification? What app opens? And if its the stock messaging app, try clearing its defaults.
That is correct about the smiley face chat bubble. When the notification pops up it will open up Handcent. I have tried clearing the defaults as well with no joy.
i had this problem when i was using Handcent
so i removed it
now i'm using GO SMS, same as handcent but better, and it does not have the problem that handcent was having
i only get 1 sms/mms alert instead of 2 when handcent is installed

OK I will give that one a bash then see if it solves it.
No joy, GoSMS just crashes on me. I still get the message even after uninstalling Handcent as well with the stock App

which ROM are you using?
maybe try another ROM?
Using Modaco r10. Might try another or a fresh install.
Anyone use any app for sending/receiving sms, other than stock, GoSMS, Handcent or Chomp?
I don't like the stock because customising is very limited. GoSMS always conflicts with the stock app for me, even if I turn off notifications in stock the LED doesn't flash. Handcent is okay but is missing something, though I can't put my finger on what. Chomp is ok but the advertising and spam sms p!55 me off.
Any other apps available that you'd recommend?
Chomp is great
It only gives an intro sms on first install. Also i bought it(they don't use paypal anymore) so i don't worry about ads.(of course there are other ways to get rid of those, but we don't talk about that on here)
Have you tried Pansi SMS. I havent actually used it but looks decent enough.

Looks and feels like a rip-off of GoSMS. Even the screenshots on the market are similar
for me gosms is the best, because you can customize virtually everything and they add new features all the time. great customer support btw
i dont have any problems with stock sms interfering with gosms
Can also recommend go sms.
I have an i337 GS4-32. I swapped out a GS4-16 a few days ago for the 32. I've been busy customizing the new GS4-32 and have disabled a number of the stock AT&T system apps like AT&T drive mode, AT&T locker, AT&T messages, etc. I'm using the Nova prime launcher.
Q1: My stock messaging app is not showing the unread count. I seem to recall the GS4-16 showing the unread msg count in a badge or whatever it's called on top of the app.
Can anyone confirm the stock messaging app does this as I think I recall? If so, does anyone have any idea what I need to do to enable the unread msg count badge on the stock messaging app? I don't find any option for that in the stock text message app settings.
Q2: How can I get around the 10 person limit in group texting? I thought I was restricted on my old Galaxy Proclaim (S720C) with 20 in the group. But 10 with the GS4? Really? I need to send group texts to more than 10 in a sports group I participate in. I've not found Handcent or GoSMS Pro to offer any benefit in circumventing this restriction... at least not on the old Galaxy Proclaim. I'm not sure who or what controls the limit on group texting.

I can now answer Q1. The problem was with the Nova Prime launcher. When I disabled NP and set TouchWiz as the default launcher, my unread text msg badge counter reappeared. I really didn't expect that.
Now on to Q2. Any ideas on how to circumvent the 10 contact group text messaging limit without subdividing the group?
