I was messing around with qik app trying to enable live streaming and now all my pictures and videos are gone. When I say all I mean all! Is there anything I can do about it... I've been up all night due to some very important top secret stuff I need back in my possession.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
have you checked qik?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Yea... There not on my sd card at all. Nor on the qik site. Is there a way I can recover them...
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
thats a negative, if they are not on your sd card where they suppose to be, then they definitely lost for ever... sorry bud.
dont give up so quickly... before you do anything to your sd card, download "pandora recovery" its free and i have used it to successfully restore deleted items from usb/sd memory
@dr154.... Your losing the theory of having a droid... "In a world that doesn't... DROID DOES!" downloaded diskdigger 0.8. I was able to recover 89.9% of my pictures and videos. Better than "sorry bud"

I've read that rooting with Gingerbreak works with the latest update, but also might erase the internal storage. Exactly what part of the internal storage might be erased? EVERYTHING, or just installed apps, ringtones, music, etc...?
Anything on internal storage, if u click on app files and go to internal storage anything there, so if u don't put apps on sd ur fine but some of its files it saves will be gone
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
So... basically my best bet would be to make a copy of everything i can onto my computer before attempting the root?
Yes
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
And..... another question. Is a microSD card actually required for it, or no?
I never remove my sd so I am not sure
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Yes an external SD card is required. You will be prompted to have one when you first install gingerbreak. I had to go out and buy one.
just copy su file in /osh/bin with some name. your root will be preserved.

I hope I put this in the right thread. I flashed a different kernal, clicked set on boot with setcpu and it instantly locked up my phone. Now I've lost all my photos and videos and my sd card is blank. Any ideas if any on how to retrieve them. Thank you in advance

There's a software online called "minitool power data recovry". It has a price ($40-$145, they have a functional demo), but its performed miracles for me in terms of data recovery.
But my first recomendation, anytime you experience data loss, STOP everything your doing with the drive (or sdcard), every second you try to access it, you might be loosing more and more data.
Sent from an Epic with 4G
After you figure out this mess get Titanium Media Sync so you don't have these problems anymore. I gather you don't have a cwm backup?
Sent from Bonsai 7.1.1.1
Also never pick SetCPU for set changes on boot until you thoroughly test your settings. This way it will restore to stock settings if you lock up and have to reboot. The same goes to Voltage Control or any overclocking/undervolting app. Every phone is different and requires custom settings and extensive testing.

Did you pull the card out and put it in a card reader on a computer to see if your data is still there?

Did I just get a bad card... If its the latter will TEP replace it?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Edit: went to Sprint store and told them about my problem. they didn't ask any questions just replaced the sd card... Unfortunately they said they were out of 16 gb cards so I got an 8, however they gave me the 16 gb bad card back and a business card with the store managers signature on it and said come back in a week with the SD card and they will replace it... Seems like I'll get to keep the 8 gigger (as he put it) too...
I saw this problem earlier in the week, and my friend's epic wiped all pics/videos- blanked it, but somehow kept the apps.. the data was still there- I used diskdigger (pc app from diskdigger.org, which you have to pay for- i think it's $15 now) and an usb sd card reader. I did a surface scan for traces of files (dig deeper), where you have to tell it what to look for (eg: look for .jpgs only), and it pulled up a ton of files- some of them browser cache files, some were the missing pics, etc. I guess you could use any file recovery program, but the thing to remember: if you think you lost everything, don't use the sd card! Writing anything to it might write over the files you are trying to recover. A new 16gb card off amazon is around $30. I'd love to know why the epic erases everything.
I have had a kernel do this to me twice in the past. Turned out to be some error in script. It has long since been fixed. It was like my SD card got formatted. Everything was gone. Hope that's not the case for you. Out of curiousity, which kernel did you flash?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I flashed genocide kernal which I run on my other epic at 1.4 on demand and it works great. For some reason it totally wiped out my other one.....strange....

Yes same thing for me got replacement with card from Asurion and I am convinced now their cards are not probably 16gb and faulty. I can't access the card at all on my pc even with some advanced tools.

I took a really important 2 minute video of our kids over the long weekend with my Epic 4g. While recording, I paused the video, then exited the camera app without saving the video. I now can't find the video, and am prettty sure it is lost. But, is there ANY way I can get that video back? Any cache or anything else I can check? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!! Sounds like it's gone...the only thing I can think of is check the LOST.DIR file in your sd card and look for a large file. If you have one, try opening it up with a video player on your computer (vlc should work)

If it was saved it would be in the dcim file on your sd card. Get astro from the market and look on your sd card for it.

ES file explorer will let you open any file as a video file. Probably the fastest way to do it.
Thank for all of the advice, but I was unable to find the video. We had some heavy storms on Friday night, and the kids were slip-n-sliding in the mud. One of those moments for the scrapbook. Oh well. Thanks again to all for offering suggestions!

Then root. It's not like you need a Computing PhD for that.
Sorry chris,
The only way to make apps that don't want to be on the SD play nice, is root. And, the only way to remove apps you don't use that are sitting in /system...is root.
Sent from my R800x using xda premium
Well actually no root required using adb you can set install location from 0 which is system auto to 2 which allows all downloaded apps to be moved to sd card

That's good for apps installed after that command. System apps and previously installed apps are untouched, and they're the largest issue.
Can u not save all emails to sd or limit how much is stored

IF they were on your external SD you can use a recover app like recuva or similar to attempt to recovery them. JUST don't write ANYTHING to it till you've attempted a few recoveries.
Can also use testdisk and photrec on linux
You can always just break up if not. Might be easier software way..
Good luck.

Have you had any luck recovering those deleted photos?
I had success useing "disk digger" it recovered 2500 photos. (accidentally deleted a album) roughly 650 of them were corrupted but it was still a success most of them were salvaged.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I used Sandisk RescuePro and it worked great for a microSD card. The key to recovering lost photos is to not shoot any more pics or format i.e. the less you write to the card the better your chances of recovery.
For things stored on your phone, try Disk Digger that 'Menance_69' mentioned or checkout Undelete For Root Users (as the name implies it's only for rooted devices). Hope this helps.
Re: Lost pictures help please
See, now a days so many data recovery tools are available on internet to help you out from this kind of situation. Some days ago I found one tool named as Remo Recover and it fascinated me with its qualities.

congrats, man! one thing you could do, too, is get a free dropbox account, and install the app. it will automatically backup all your photos onto your dropbox account as you take pictures. definitely saved me more times than i can count.
for other people's reference, there's also an app called DiskDigger that you can run from your phone that does the same thing as programs mentioned in other posts.
