Is there a way you can save apps on the sd card instead of the phones memory? Would doing this maintain faster speed fpr the g2?

Do people realize that their phone has a search button? Just so happends it goes right to some website called google. That must be a pretty informative website.

the app developers just choose not 2 allow people to save to the sdcard.
one of the reasons is that it can be saved and copied and therefore distributed easily.

What do you think comes up when you do a google search, brains? This thread was one of them. Way to go trying to be a douche, it worked out well for you!

But there is also already a ton of information out there regarding putting apps onto the sd card. Its all about searching and trying to find the info before asking. Also posting in the right section, Q&A.

Not trying to be a douche here but you must have just switched from WM to Android or something. You've got tons of posts but you've never heard of something called a2sd or apps2ext? Google 'darktremor' and you'll find your answer. BTW, there is actually a thread in the development section for this phone that, if you looked, you would have seen and had the exact answer you're looking for.
I did just switch over from WM phone but I also knew that certain apps can be saved into the SD card. My particular question was to get the apps that does not give you the option of going to the SD card.
Truly the comment of google search was not called for since if the poster goes to:
Menu-settings-applications-manage applications-choose app-store to sd card (or store to phone)
: some apps do not give you the option to save into SD card.
So I am wanting those who have used EC09 and either have had their SD card fried or not fried, and give the steps on what they did to get the ROM installed and any post install steps they used.
As of right now I have done EC09 twice.
The first time was with the stock 16 GB SD card installed, flashed the ROM/Radio via odin, installed and rooted with Gingerbreak. And about a day or so after setting up the ROM my SD card became damaged, tried formatting with the phone and windows, and OS X, no success. Eventually had to take it to Verizon to get replaced. Flashed to DI01 when I brought it in.
The second time I am using a 4 GB SD card, erased it with the phone. I flashed the ROM with Odin, then once it loaded, I flashed CWM, booted to CWM, and wiped Data, cache and Dalvik booted into the rom, Gingerbreak'ed it. So far no SD card issues.
So I am wanting everyone to report all they have done, I know there are lots of you who are no issues with the SD card, and if we can atleast make it possible to narrow it down to anything common, we can atleast narrow it down to something to save some peoples SD cards.
My thoughts if it fries the one that came in the phone, flash to DI01, go into verizon and just say it stopped working, and they should replace it.
Just a update for those who care, so far the SD card is still working, havn't gotten a Damaged SD card error yet, installed about 20 apps, and downloaded about 100+ files to my SD card for my Scripture app from my church. So far so good.
just a thought: I'm from the mesmerize forums, but this is my hazard at a guess: It looks like the build is treating the internal sd card as a normal usb composite device, thus using usb data buffers when data r/w occurs. Those buffers are most likely larger than normal sdcards are meant to handle. Large volume data transactions, like watching movies, may damage you card. Just a guess though, from what I'm seeing in the ui.
Is this only for touchwiz based or AOSP?

Anything based off of EC09 is touchwiz.

It's TW-based.
Well, for me, every time I had an SD error it was when I was accessing large amounts of data from the card. I was accessing the gallery, but no pictures were there to show up (it couldn't load them). I tried a Batch Backup with Titanium so that I could save the MMS settings and all of my data for a backup after the first glitch when I lost all of my data completely.
It popped up a window saying the SD was blank and that I needed to format. I formatted and made sure to turn on debugging/development and had no further problems.
One time was enough for me. I'm sticking with CM7, doubly so since the sensors are now all working and all we need is MMS.
EC09 = TouchWiz
CM7 = AOSP

Please atleast answer some of the questions, when you flashed the rom, did you wipe any data, cache or dalvik?
Are you using the stock 16 GB card? Or a different one?
i was lucky, i had no issues with my SD card, but my friend did, as soon as he told me, and said others were having the same issue, i ran on here to read up....i immediately odin'd dl01 modem, then flashed dl01 to ed04...and have been fine. i back my sd card up frequently, but you never know....
now I was running Nameless 4, then went back to stock Gingerbread and rooted/debinged/debloated...and now i'm back on Nameless 4.1...but hearing CM7 is ready minus MMS which I don't use (i use Voice for my texting so i don't have to pay for it) i can finally go back to CM (ran it on both my OG Droid and DInc, so i have been missing it since I got the Fassy....
My sd card is borked too after flashing the full ec09 package. Worked for a little and then started getting errors. Could someone link me the full dl01 odin package that will get me to stock so I can take it in to Verizon and play dumb. Thanks!

Wrong. EC09 is also a modem number. If he was talking about CM7 or MIUI then they are not TW.
I wonder if all the fried SD cards are Samsung that came with the phones? I other non-16GB SD cards work fine with EC09 roms.
Mine got fired as well or something. I could not format the card. Seems like EC09 is the cause for it.
My phone just turn off on it's on, I could not turn the phone back on with the power switch and had to pull the battery out and put back in to turn the phone back on.
I've been using CM7 since test4 and I'm not experiencing this so far. Fingers crossed*

What might your scripture app advise regarding the deceit that is prescribed herein - break your phone, then hold Verizon responsible by using deception? I am no saint, but bringing in your church in a post that advises bad behavior is ludicrous. Let the flaming begin. Just seems especially hypocritical.

My 2 Cents... I used Nameless 4.1 for days no prob then read it didn't play videos. I of course had to confirm this and sure enough they didn't play. Instantly after this my card went tits up. Mbr was destroyed so had to fix that first before I could reformat card. The card is fine, now on cm7.

Are you really that stupid? It has nothing to do with it being a scripture app, it has everything to do with the fact that it is a app that writes 100+ files to the SD card, meaning the SD card is being used, and not sitting idle, I mean anyone could flash this ROM and have no SD card issues until they do some heavy writing to it.
The Scripture app has nothing to with trying to get it replaced, I was just using it as an example of a App that was writing to the card, and was having issues with my old card when it died.

So you know what's causing this exactly? I asked that question on the previous page but no one could answer that if this is related to tw or AOSP.
The way the android system and app devs have files organized on the SD card! like seriously, it's such a mess. Nearly every app has at least one folder in there! It takes me forever to find things that I'm looking for. how difficult would it have been for there to be a folder called "APPDATA" where ALL THAT CRAP can be thrown into so all we have to see is a folder called APPDATA? There are 45 folders on my SD card right now... by shoving all the app related ones into one folder I could reduce that to maybe 10 at the most...
Does anyone else feel this way or am I just too organized Also is there any way that this could possibly be done? That would be WONDERFUL!
I agree.. and the worst part is, some folders are not recognizable to me!! A lot of them are not named to the same app name that you've installed on your phone. Sigh..
It SHOULD be laid out like this:
SDCARD/APPDATA/APPNAME/[All apps files and folders go here]
That way we know what the hell goes with what and don't have to play guessing games.
100% agree. Also I have like 5 different pictures folders, for standard camera, vignette, photaf, 360 camera... I think maybe we can contact some developers and ask them if there is some technical purpose for the folders being on the sd card root. Google will never enforce any kind of politic about this. that's what sucks about the lack of an app approval process

What exactly is that anyways?
Agree, sd card just keeps filling up from trying different apps and un-installing again, in many most cases junk is left behind on sd card and very often the folders dont have names related to the app so i have no clue what to delete to not mess up the apps i'm using.

fixed
LOST.DIR is usually data that has gotten damaged or half written to the card.
"lost files"
+1
100% true.
Currently every second app a developer makes that uses the SD to store data makes a new folder for their app.
It becomes a huge mess very fast.
I often find myself thinking WTF is this folder. only to figure out it was a folder that held some 2KB file for the game score.
Developers need to all conform to a set of rules.
Someone needs to write The Android Developers Code Of Conduct Manual.
To help developers better understand what we love and hate in android devices.
It is up to getting people informed and aware.
Only then... we can evolve.
+1
When I first got root and installed Root explorer I got so peeved at all the folders I set about deleting folders and files Willy and indeed nilly.
Not a great idea. :0
Thank Goodness for SEUS.
SE X10i 2.3.3 CM7.0.3
The worst is when an app creates a folder, then never even uses the damn thing lol....wtf you taking up room on my SD card for if you're never even gonna use it?!?!?!?!? Like i need 20 empty folders hanging around for no reason. lol
I make it a point to reformat my SD card 2-3x a year, whether it needs it or not...my phone runs soooooooo much faster with a nice organized SD card.
Placebo... Unless ur sd card were full...

have to agree. I'm sick and tired of having to clean out so much crap. Like u said it could all just go into one android folder. Why do u need a android folder, then data, then program data, then other crap from other apps.
Someone needs to for something somewhere coz I keep needing to clear up crap. This part of android is just not SMART

Hello, Ive noticed that there's no option to move apps to the SD card with my S3, as there was for the S2. Ive filled my 16gb already, and I bought a 64gb card, hoping to be able to have many of my apps on the SD card, however it seems that this is not possible at the moment.
Are there any plans to resolve this problem? Would this be resolved in the form of a kernel, rom or tweak? Or is it a hardware limitation of the S3 which restricts the application's location?
Thanks

I'm gonna ride with Chainfire on this one, too many GS3 owners saying you can't. But I guess I'll find out for myself once I get it in my hands.
If you are wise, just move your user files to the 64 .gb .sd card. There is already 11.gb of space for apps and still people need to move their apps to external .sd

try link2sd . It will definately work .

Can anybody confirm this? I won't be able to until the 21st at the earliest
I'd like to know as well. What concerns me more is the game data since those are going to be larger files rather than the app itself. ie gameloft games. Are the game data stored in the internal or micro sd card when game data is downloaded?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk 2
On my acer with 8gb internal storage I used an app called GL to SD but you alway need to run it first and run the games within it. And although that allows game data to be stored in micro sd it doesn't always work for me and sometimes I forget to run it first. I think the best solution for me is the get the 32 fb model.

So, according to that article, CM has the problem patched? I have nothing on my internal storage apart from apps, yet its full, nice.

If you installed a lot games with large game data, try GL to SD, that app will store game data (not apps) to your sd. ROOT required. Open GL to SD then run the game you want and it will redownload data but to your sd card. You have to open the game this way everytime though GL to SD so the game knows to use the game data from the card. You can delete the game data in the internal since that won't get used anymore. Should give you a lot more room than app2sd.
You can also move manually the original game data in internal to the sdcard but I don't recall where to move it too. I think under games.

The GL to SD works fine for Nova 3 and Modern Combat 3. Move them using the GL to SD and in the settings of GL to SD check the option /sdcard/Android under add mounted folder. Once done then price mount button the top of GL to SD app and then press menu and exit (don't press unmount and exit otherwise it would not work). This would mount your external SD card as /sdcard/android. If GL to SD fail to move the games to SD card then you can even do it manually by copying games data folder from /sdcard/android/data to /extsdcard/data.
I hope you understand my poor way of explaining things I hope it helps

GL to SD works only for the games which install there files in /sdcard/android/data folder or /sdcard/data folder.
link2sd

OK so we all know you can't manually move the apps to SD but I was fooling around with my bpdn (yep eclair and all!) And I noticed when I didnt have the SD card that was installed on my m when I downloaded all my apps that they all fc. As soon as I put it back in they all worked! Just sayan! And 4 gigs is plenty because all media CAN be moved. You just have to do it manually. Use root explorer. You don't even need root for it to work. Try it.

The problem isn't the apps actual core data space. Its the extra data files that most large games have you download to play them. Now as a gamer I know four gigs ain't cutting it and under different circumstances I would have gotten the droid razr HD instead. Perspectively, its a matter of preference of how you use your phone. For the advid gamer like myself, some of us did not have that actual 100 or 250 dollars to shell out to get the more spacious and enhanced droid razrs. With that said root is the only option if you want all those awesome games and be able to their data to the external sdcard. I use directory bind to move them over.
Should you decide on to root: here's a link to the app and directions to use it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2059890
