Is there a way you can save apps on the sd card instead of the phones memory? Would doing this maintain faster speed fpr the g2?

Do people realize that their phone has a search button? Just so happends it goes right to some website called google. That must be a pretty informative website.

the app developers just choose not 2 allow people to save to the sdcard.
one of the reasons is that it can be saved and copied and therefore distributed easily.

But there is also already a ton of information out there regarding putting apps onto the sd card. Its all about searching and trying to find the info before asking. Also posting in the right section, Q&A.

Not trying to be a douche here but you must have just switched from WM to Android or something. You've got tons of posts but you've never heard of something called a2sd or apps2ext? Google 'darktremor' and you'll find your answer. BTW, there is actually a thread in the development section for this phone that, if you looked, you would have seen and had the exact answer you're looking for.
I did just switch over from WM phone but I also knew that certain apps can be saved into the SD card. My particular question was to get the apps that does not give you the option of going to the SD card.
Truly the comment of google search was not called for since if the poster goes to:
Menu-settings-applications-manage applications-choose app-store to sd card (or store to phone)
: some apps do not give you the option to save into SD card.

I was not seeing embedded video links in my non stock browsers, or in Google reader. In fact if I clicked on a reader item that had one I was either immediatly taken to the stock browser saying link not found, or page cannot be opened, or was given the list of apps and browser choices. This was extremely annoying to say the least. I did not want to delete the stock browser so I just moved it to my SD.card for storage using root explorer. This cleared up the problem right away. Thought this might help a few people. Mods move this if its in the wrong place.

Lmao. I swear its gotta be me, or something in the air but this is the second post where I have no clue what the hell people are saying....you weren't seeing embedded stuff in your browser. So, using root manager you moved the browser to the sd card. And this took care of the problem. Lol. Wtf did I just say? Wait wait wait. Do you mean by moving the stock browser grin the internal sd card to the external sd card you can now see embedded stuff? People choose your words carefully. Remember there are 2 types of sd cards on this phone, internal and external. Please be specific.
You have a question, or are you just being a smartass? Of course its the removable sd. why wouldnt I specify if it was internal, if its a stock app then its in system/apps.

As we all know Honeycomb uses this rediculus pseudo-sdcard meaning internal SD and external SD which sux because as we all know you cannot clean internal memory up by moving apps to the SD card clearly making us spend more hard earned money on upgrading to more storage internally. So my question is as I am sure a million and one other people are wondering:
CAN.... YOU.... MOVE.... APPS.... TO.... THE.... SD... CARD.... USING.... THE.... NEW.... ICE.... CREAM.... SANDWICH.... OS!?
I have searched far and wide Google ho and I get the best of both answers and not one a definitive.......
Can someone please tell us FOR SURE! The mystery million dollar answer to this question?

as i stated in another thread, yes, ics supports moving apps to sd cards from within qpp management in settings. Heres a question for you, since the xoom has it working 100%, why not ask them? Better yet, got root? Install thors rom and see if it works.
This would be great, it's so frustrating to have apps say they are going to download additional data to the SD card, only to see it filing up your internal memory.

Is this your first android device? Did you forget others exist? The build on my G2 supports moving apps to the sd card, therefore ICS supports moving apps to the sd card. I never said A500 roms support it, I said ICS supports it and you need to see if the roms for honeycomb devices (ours and the xoom are the ones I specifically mention) support it. Thats why I said to try asking xoom owners or Thors rom. You're the one screaming on a forum about not having apps 2 sd capability on your tablet, but I'm a child for not spoon feeding you, but rather stating where you can find what you want to know?
And even then, I gave you an exact answer. You CAN move apps to the sd card with ICS. You should have asked if the a500 could move apps to the SD card, and you got that answer yourself.
Is this not the A500 forum thread? I must be confused.
I own an A500 but I should find my answers somewhere else.

ICS does support apps2sd, although I believe regarding how it is built for a tablet, there are most likely some changes that do not allow apps2sd. (This could be to Google believing that the available memory is more than enough, evidently this is not the case).
Now looking around, it seems there is no native method to enable apps2d (to be honest, haven't really searched much.)
However, there is a mod in the Development Forum, that basically swaps the internal sd with the external sd, effectively giving you xxGB of space (based on sd card size). This gives you an increased amount of space for apps, music, videos etc (depending on sd card size.)
Be aware though that you cannot hot swap your sd card, using this as it could potentially corrupt the system when removed. Also note it has been test on HC 3.2.1 (Not sure about ICS, A question for the developer of the mod maybe?)
Link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445720
Anyway, I hope this has helped. I know it may not be the best method available, but it still one to consider.

This is the most detailed and respectful answer I could have hoped for and I am aware of the sd card swap which is great I wish someone would come out with an app and could switch between the stock and the mod therefore giving the opportunity to remove the card with no bad consequences I hope that this feature will work for the up and coming OTA. Thank you again I guess we'll have to wait and more will be revealed but I am getting the feeling that as you said most tablets will not support the app2sd function due to more money for the 32gb version ect.. It's really a shame that someone can't just cook the feature from one of the ICS phones into the tablet roms.

I think the reason it may not work is because of how the memory is partitioned or formatted, I.e some space for the rom and the rest for user data. Although this is also the case on devices like the sgs iirc. So must be a tablet thing?

Given there is a thread elsewhere for Thor's rom and other tablets with ICS, I would have asked there. Yeah, this is the a500 section but without an official ICS or gpl compliant ICS how many people here are going to have the answer to your question? And I did know the answer, I ran thor's rom for about an hour before switching back to something with a camera, thats why I pointed you to it. Like I said, ICS itself does support moving apps to the exernal sd card. Thats the questionbeing asked, and I gave the answer. If you didnt come in here CAPS... LOCK... BLAZING... LIKE... AN... Methinks you asked if ICS supports it, not the A500 in particular. Furthermore, no one could give you a definite answer anyway, because Acer has yet to release ICS for our Iconia. Now, say someone compiles a kernel + ICS rom which changes the way the partitions are set up, and how it hands internal memory. Then yes, you could do it. Instead of complaining, do a little research and have a little respect towards the others.

Email response ID:
Dear
Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Support.
Please note that moving or installing apps to external storage is no longer available on any Android from version 4.0 and above, due to how the Android operating system reads storage on our devices. The Android OS now operates on a unified storage system from Ice Cream Sandwich onward, meaning it will read one data partition for storage, rather than two.
The reason why previous Android versions had the capability of moving apps to external storage was because the phones memory was split into two partitions, one for external storage and one for internal.
Now, with Android using a unified storage system, all applications will be stored completely on the internal memory of the phone. This allows for around 11GB of storage space on a 16GB device for apps. Google, the developer of Android, feels this is more than enough for users, as their operating system was designed for use on their own phones as well, which do not have any external storage at all.
Please also note that we do not advertise any of our devices as having the capability of running or installing apps directly onto the external memory card. You will have to install your apps to the internal memory, but anything else (music, videos, documents etc.) can be stored on your external memory card.
If there is anything else we can help with, please let us know.

What is the point of this? it is widely known that Google removed this since ICS. Deal with it, or root & hack your device. You can do a sd card swap, put a 64gb sd card in & use that as your main storage.. Or deal with it. It has been like this for 2 years. It is not like this just happened.

1)
One can not "realize to be ignorant". It is a contradiction in terms.
If you realize it, you are not ignorant. If you are ignorant, you do not realize it.
2)
Go to the main movetosd app on google play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.curvefish.apps.movetosd
Description of the app by the programmer:
Please note, not all devices support this feature, i.e. Samsung S3. Xoom DO NOT support moving apps to SD Card, because it is already share memory with system. And this feature disabled by manufacturer of your device.
The programmer is guilty of misleading people into thinking it is the manufacturer's fault and not Google's fault.
Dear user 299792458, based on what I wrote above, someone you know very well is the ignorant here.
Be careful who you call ignorant, or you humiliate yourself by proving to be ignorant and unfriendly yourself.

They're not enougfh for me! That problem is due to Samsung or Google? In other words, is there the possibility that with android 4.3 the problem will be solved?
The problem is with Google/Android Team, but they're not going to fix it.
They intentionally removed the App to SD feature because of the high failure rate of SD Cards and amount of complaints due to it. Rooting is your only choice to put apps on SD it seems

It's not really a bug but a "feature"
SD cards are broken, say goodbye to unzipping files, downloading music, basically anything that involves altering your sd card.
They are not broken. In fact, at last, correct file permissions are being implemented onto them. All these things you say will be able to happen when app developers update their apps.

Not sure though... I saw the camera app of kitkat and it still supports saving images in external storage. IMHO I don't think sony would allow saving images deep in the android folder instead of DCIM standards. So yeah perhaps they have fixed the sdcard issue.

afaik only 3rd party apps (the ones that didnt come with the phone) are restricted to using sdcard just like they want to, system apps (such as camera) can save wherever it wants. but I'm not 100% sure though

It's not possible, there is no such permission they could implement. There's no way to give an non-root app global permissions to write anywhere on the external SD card.
Anything's free to write any old rubbish all over your internal SD. But the removable card is rendered useless. Shame. I actually think it'll stop me updating to kit kat, which is a shame. Google hates expandable storage, and wishes it would just die.

ive also heard that you can plus i dont think sony samsung and htc will roll kitkat out if it makes their hardware useless .... i believe the whole idea of companys not updating their devices is if the newer version will break software or hardware features therefor rendering the update useless. instead they would just continue with bugfixs and implemnting new features to the current os version .... and yeah the new way for apps to ask permission can be done... just needs to be programmed correctly... it doesnt need global permission (root) it would be a little fix within the os saying that the external card is just like a partitioned bit of the internal ...(sorry if i dont make sense but it does to me ... im have asleep waiting on kitkat haha )
Wait a minute WTF is there SD card restrictions now???
What's the point with having an android phone with SD if you can't even access it??
Seems to me like everyone is turning away from being open to being closed like iOS
Sony can kiss me good bye if I don't get that damn sd support!
