First things first, I'm not new to the forum...and I apologize for creating a thread for this!
So I was in the iTunes app store for my iPod Touch and I came across this ultimately cool app: Air Sharing
http://www.avatron.com/products/
This program lets you use the iPhone/iPod Touch as a virtual drive, available with pw protection.
Do any of you know if theres something like this for Windows Mobile Phones? Or if someone is interested in developing something like this?
There are apps that will turn the PDA into a USB disk. I prefer just running a small FTP server on the PDA to dump my files via WiFi whenever I need to.
Now if someone could only port a SSH server as well so I could tunnel traffic though SSH, that be sweet.
really? Do you mind posting up the usb app or something like that?
it's called wmstorage i think the most recent one is 1.8 you should be able to search in dev and hack and find it
what type of device do you have?
wm5 storage works really well, also softick card export will show on pc as usb drive. but these are not wireless.
wow thanks a lot for all the suggestions, though the wireless part of air sharing is totally cool. I'll be sure to look into the suggestions tho
So does anyone know how to make something like air share? I have the touch, since I dont like the iPhone..(weird i know) but the touch uses wifi so it couldnt keep a stable internet connection all the time thus not allowing me access files on it all the time as well..
Any chances a developer out there would take a look into something like this?
a Friend had Airshare on his iphone,
he come to me, had my WLAn Key...
he startet Airshare, give me an Link (from his Iphone)
i write it to my Internet Explorer at PC, and TATA, i can download or Upload Files to the Iphone
needs some seconds Time, that i can Upload Files to Airshare
WOW WOW WOW
this is really cool
i search as well an Ap for WM like Airshare.
Bump this thread, very interested in an app like this, used the air sharing today on an iphone and would love to be able to use my phone as a wireless drive. Ive tried things like mocha ftp and can only send from phone to computer not the other way. Appreciate any help with finding an app for winmo!
Thanks in advance.
edit double post.
I use mocha and I can send from the computer to the phone just fine. If you're having problems doing that, try using a dedicated FTP client like FileZilla.
Here is my good deed of the day:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-serversman.html
I tested, checked for any issues and found none. It literally setups your phone as a server.
However, it a very little known app. Play at your own risk.
Very kind. Thank you for your speedy response. This is why I love XDA Devs.
OK. Slightly delayed response here... However, I'm considering switching back to a WinMo phone and ditching the restricted iPhone... However, I would like to ensure that I have the same functionality on my WinMo as I do with my iPhone, so I'm looking for similar or same apps before I make the switch... Looks like "Air Sharing" has a WinMo comparable app: www . mobile-stream . com / airshare . html ... Mobile Stream's "Air Share"...
Does the mobile-stream work for windows mobile to use it as a secondary monitor for computer?
also I notice its only for bluetooth. Is there on for just using internet ?
I'd like to know if you have any problems with Astronavigator on Touch HD.
I have installed it and as soon as go in the menu for changing location, the application freezes
I'd also like to know if there's any similar program, which uses gps to define current location...
Tnx
Andrej
Same for me: app freezes
yep
fine till you change location - then freezzzzz
here the same...no sulotion in the pas half year?
here the same...no solution in the past half year?
I've tried running Atronavigator on both HTC shift and Touch HD, the stuff just freezes.
But... if you de-select all the stuff on the map, once in a while, you can get to the location part, I was even able to get a fix one time and see the soft. as it should be.
On the shift, it's even harder to get it working, one must reboot, kill activesync, kill all the other stuff like GSM/Radio, kill the stars, planets and the rest and..
you might get lucky once in a while...
possibly it's due to the origins of my file...
Same here; just freezes when trying to locate position or even when wanting to input position manually on Touch HD
Hi,
It's Working with WGAFIX.
WGAfix ?
I guess you mean WVGA Fix(.cab) to switch to VGA, I first was confused into downloading WGA fix for XP :-(
This looks like the place to get it.
Incidentally, the freeze happens with the version legitimately downloaded from vitotechnology.com. I sent a request to their support 3 weeks ago, and then by email, haven't heard from them.
The previous version (astronavigatorII 1.2) works fine though...

Where do I get this anyway?

Not sure if this is the WVGA fix your talking about
yeah, that's the one. I find that I need to do a soft reset to switch back from VGA to WVGA with that program, but that's fine.
The good news is, once you've set the astroNavigatorII location in VGA mode, you can return to WVGA as everything else works, and it 'cookies' your location. So, as long as you don't move to a distant location, you'll be able to enjoy the app.
Wow, I've been looking for a suitable app that can rival the iPhone's Starmap. Doesn't look like Vitotechnology are too reliable though... No fix for the problem in however many months, and no replies to tech support requests?
More annoying though, I go to their website and find they have an iPhone app themselves called Star Walk 3.0 which has all sorts of goodies like GPS/Digital compass etc, whilst the Astronavigator app for Windows Mobile phones seems to be stuck in a development freeze with a location feature that doesn't even work properly on our phone!
iPhone virtual machine?
from what I can judge, Astronavigator is nowhere as impressive as Starmap, still more expensive, no editing, scant documentation. The navigation / screen gestures are also quite confusing. Haven't used Starmap though.
I guess what we need is an iPhone emulator running under WM6
Ok the file.cab netfron locationfree for ppc is here. now can any one make this app work with HTC HD2 that would be so greate.
i have manage to install it on this phone but i can only see the image play for a second then quits. can any body make this work on this phone. i will pay for a working netfron location free cab for the HTC HD2
IT OLMOST WORK just need a little twick some hack to make this work
ignore.............
<ignore this post, i didnt mean ignore the thread>
HTC HD2 location free
What do you mean ignore..... don't you have a sony location free player
this software can make a huge thing if some body can make it work on the HD2
you could be watching your cable tv,dvr etc on your 3G phone with a 4.3'' screen just like the psp
ignore.............. let's get to work on this. lets make it work on the HD2
OK.....
I would like to see that as well.. I can't understand that it never really worked on the market.. it works so great..!!
I tried to connect my PSP to the wireless router but apparently the wifi access point on the hd2 is only wireless g, while PSP only uses b mode...
if anyone can make the hd2 wifi router work in 802.11b, that would also be great!
location free on hd2
well it almost work on the HD2 like i said on the top i can see the picture for one second and then quits if there is some body that knows about softwares that can tweak this to work on the HD2 ..............any body........
Would have been easier if you included some links in your first post.
I have no idea what you are talking about. I actually had trouble reading your first post (no offense intended).
If you'd provide a more detailed description of what it does and why it would be interesting to develop, I'm sure you'd be more successful in reaching your goal.
hd2 location free player
well what i'm trying to get is to make this app to work on the HD2 so that we can use it to watch tv... your tv + dvr on your phone just like the psp let's you do that with wifi but if some body makes it work on the HD2 you could do so on 3G any where
Isn't Orb basically doing the same?
I think that because it is a proprietary Sony product it will be pretty hard to find a developer that is willing to put his/her free time into it and actually having one of these..
But maybe it is as simple as changing some software on your phone.
Don't think developers will be able to help you on this one, though.
HD2 location free player
well that's a shame becouse this app is very usefull if you'r on the go and want to watch tv,dvd, dvr etc on your phone
i do not know much about softwarer development otherwise i would give it a try, some could try to make this work and try to get some donations for a working cab to install i'm sure it would be worth it
It does look nice.
However, if you have Orb, a media center PC (like most tech-freaks have at home I could imagine), there wouldn't really be a need for it. Just simply because there are alternatives.
I am also looking for a similar way of streaming TV on the go.
However, then I'd rather see something that would work with a client-host-type of setup whereas TV cards on any computer can be used.
Going to keep an eye on this, because the idea to have TV on the go is very interesting..
HTC HD2 netfront location free player
Here is the cab
Where is the cab?
I would love to see this too. Especially on TP2. I think the "location free" software is open source from sony now.
location free player
what do you mean open from sony... location free player for pocket pc
i have'nt seen it . but hope they do
can you please give us the program?
did you try to install framework 3.5?
Htc hd2 location free player
when i try to upload it it gives me this error
Netfront Location Free Player CAB.CAB:
Upload of file failed.
how can i upload it
location free
here View attachment 269145 if you need more info let me know
netfront locatiojn free player = key
00040370-YVtU-g59x
thanks! but I can't try without the serial it's asking me for..
net front location free HD2
does any body trying to this to work on the HD2
registration keeps failing.. it finds the base station ok, password ok.. but then says "registration failed". over wifi as over 3G. I think it's because I have a Europian base station. The US pc software also doesn't connect with it.
too bad.. looked very promising.. the app itself runs fine, althought it screws up screen rotation.. but that could be fixed in the registry..
have you tried it with Framework 3.5 installed? (and enabled in the registry, see the sticky tips guide)
location free for ppc
i'm sorry it didn't work for you and i do have Framework 3.5 installed and when run it does not screws up my screen rotation.. what registry fix do you know how can i make it stable or if you know another forum ?.......
Ok, i know this one has probably been done to death, and yes i have searched the internet and this board for an answer and i couldn't find it. So what is my question you may ask?
My question is this. Where do i find a working remote desktop application for windows mobile 6.5 (OS version 5.2.21869) rom version 1.66.405.2 (FYI my provider is O2-UK, the device is fresh out of the factory and not O2 branded). I have an app installed at the monent that is supposed to work but all i get is a "connecting" message and nothing more and that's using wifi to a windows 2003 SBS server or my windows 7 pro desktop. I have tried IP address's and hostnames and still nothing. I did notice that if i connected to the server from my desktop while my phone was trying to do the same i did get a "connection failed" message on the phone. I'm also having issues getting vnc to work (it's acutally pretty much the same problem as i get with RDP).
I do know my wifi works becuase i use it all the time in the house and the GSM radio is definitely able to talk to my home network on the external side because exchange direct push is working perfectly in secure mode.
So ideas or links will be welcome.
Thanks guys and it's good to be back.
**EDIT**
I just had a thought. Would the activex control for IE that RWWP work?
The problem is your setup on your PC. Remote desktop on the phone works out of the box (as long as it can connect then it will.)
There have been discussions on this forum about Windows 7 and remote desktop, so it's there to find (I know you said you searched, but it is there!)
I use Windows XP and had my home PC setup for RDP connections already as I connect from other PCs, so when I got my HD2 it worked straight away.
I should say at this point i am an IT Engineer. I have tested this to death. I have tried it with firewalls on and firewalls off. Exceptions allowed and not.
Please also note i was trying to connect to my windows 2003 SBS server which does work from my desktop (and if i really wanted to i can connect from the server to the desktop using RDP or VNC) and my preivous HTC touch diamond and the HTC artemis i had before that. Although since my last RDP install on a phone (and considering my last phone ran WM6.1) i've lost the cab file i had.
John, thanks for the fast response. I really do appreciated it but i think you missed the mark a little. If you wanna have another stab feel free.

I'm not a Windows 7 user, so I can't vouch for any of the conversations that I've seen on here, but there have been many regarding this exact issue. It usually turns out that they don't have a version of Windows 7 that will allow them to host RDP sessions, or that there was a setup issue that could be resolved.
Have a look at this thread and see if anything there helps...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533664
I got this from searching and was a little confused as to why, until I got past the first 2 posts
Hope you find something useful mate.
Nope that's of no use. It's only discussing very basic and standard things i have already done but i must emphasize that i am not really that concerned with connecting to my desktop from the phone (i'm just using it in my testing to prove that RDP is actually open and working on both computers). The server is the most important thing right now and as i have said it has worked in the past. I have not changed any settings on either of my machines and i can not get it to function with this new phone.
I'm pretty sure it's something wrong with the rdp client i had to install on the phone because it didn't come with one. I have read that there is one that works and one that doesn't but there was no further clarification of which was which. Right now i would settle for a verified known working client for the phone but i just can't seem to find a link. Hell if someone out there knows of a VNC client that works i'd settle for that.
Just to show how dedicated and willing i am to get this sorted i did follow the instructions for creating a vpn (well tbh i had already created one ) that connected no worries. Then I fired up the rdp client and tapped in the internal ip address for the server, username, password and local domain. It's come back and said it's "connecting..." but i can see no activity on my internet connection coming to or from my phone. Yet if click the shortcut on my Desktop that has the same details it connects faster than i can blink.
Also please take into account that windows 2003 SBS only has a firewall on the external interface. So the internal network is unprotected. The VPN connection bypasses the firewall for authenticated external devices and users. That is why it was suggested in the link you posted because the same situation is created when you use it on windows Vista or Windows 7.
p.s while i was proof reading this i tested it on the wifi (so on the internal side of the network) and nothing. I'm pretty sure from monitoring the wifi link activity that the RDP client isn't sending out any data at all which sort of comfirms that there is a working and non working client. Seems i have the wrong one. Has anyone got any links to windows mobile 6.5 RDP or VNC clients that i can test?
Thank you everybody.
I didn't realise that there was a non-working version of remote desktop out there. That sort of explains it then doesn't it!
I know it's overkill, but if you can't find a working version of the app then you could always flash a ROM that has it, but like I said, the version that was on my phone when I got it (1.43 ROM WWE) worked from day 1.
You may not have an answer yet, but at least you've ruled a lot of stuff out.
Hope you get it sorted mate.
Now isn't a good time to reflash the rom because i'm a bit busy with other things but it is something i was considering solely because the HTC text messaging application is awful and i'm pretty sure it has a memory leak in it.
So what's the recommendations for roms taking into account that according to HTC i have the latest version for my provider.
Also i'm still open to suggestions on the VNC front?
RDP works flawlessly here too, but then again I had it in my ROM. You say you saw 2 versions of the RDP client, I'd recommend trying the other one, and if it still doesn't work... happy flashing The ROM in my signature works fine, but it's just one of many.
Well i read it in a post on another forum as a response to someone having a problem like mine BUT with windows 7 home prem which isn't ever going to work. Unfortunately there was no links provided.
I think i better go and get the kettle and move it into my office and start some hardcore searching. Man, I hate hardcore searching.
VNC Viewer
Attached is a FREEWARE VNC viewer I have been using on various HTC devices I have owned over the years, and it works perfectly well for me. I know you guys are discussing RD Protocols and Services, but if you have UltraVNC server available on your "host" PC, then this little beauty will work like a charm!
I use it all the time to dial into my home PCs and switch torrents on and off of downloading etc. and it is faultless. I also use it on my work phone to connect to our customers PCs in order to remote fault find / rectify etc..
N.B. This viewer IS NOT written by me, nor have I anything to do with it, all I know is that it is based on FREEWARE public domain code, and issued as freeware, and on an "as is" basis to the WM community.
interesting to see you have the exact same version of the phone as me. I have tried that VNC viewer already with no luck at all but i'll give it another go and see what happens.
**EDIT**
just tried it out and with good results. Hooked up to the server on the wifi just fine but i really wouldn't wanna have to click n drag something. so that will buy me sometime while i work on the RDP thing.
Thanks namwollem
Ok spent almost an hour search and got a couple of hits. Thanks to a thread on social.microsoft.com i found the cab file should be called wm6rdp.cab. Ran a search for it in google and found 2 different versions. One cooked by a guy called finster and another one (looks more offical) the finster version installed and seemed older than the version i had as it didn't support remote storage. That failed to do anything new. I next tried the more official looking cab and this removed the finster version, soft rebooted the phone and looked promising but alas it didn;t do anything different. Interestingly i now have 2 RDP icons on my start menu. both run the same app so i'm a bit confused as to how that happened.
I'm really quite stuck now and, as i mention before, i want to avoid flashing the phone for now so i'm still open to ideas.
I hate it when things get wierd. I removed all the rdp clients i had installed in an effort to tidy up a little bit. There was one that would not remove. It was marked "bengalih productions windows mobile..." so i figured i would give the phone a reboot and try see if it worked and hey presto it does. This is the original client that i installed and the first that didn't work and i haven;t changed the config at all so i'm completely baffled. I have noticed in further testing that if i select any options (like fit to screen, or colour depth) it will not connect but if you give it the user and machine details it seems to work. It also is not not RDP version 7 compatible (so you can't use it to connect to windows 7 pro or ultimate machines) but who cares when you have VNC and RDP working?
So i am happy. Thanks for all your help guys.
It might be a stupid thread and stupid question and I believe the ANSWER of it might be …… it will never happen.
BUT
Is it possible? Can it be?
I am not a good fan of Android as I had a lot of problem with Nexus one,
I have been using windows mobile since ages, my first was the IPAQ, Imate PDA2K, HTC cruse, Diamond, HD (BlackStone) and Nexus one < --- just to test Android
I might be wrong judging the Android but here are my notes:
- No X button to close the applications so they just keep running in the background
- No file browser
- It was hard to make it run the WMV and still not good
- I understand in the WM 6.5 no Transcriber and block recognizer, but I think it can be managed
- No today desktop to be customized as I like to see my task and calendar
- Office is not there the way you want
And many manay other issues
Well sorry for the (too much writing) but maybe I could get some help here or people might enlighten me
THX
Honestly I have no idea how to install Wm on that phone...and I would never want to if I were yu...but ur issues don't seem to lye with android...yu just need to do some market browsing because there is a program called advanced task killer that kills apps in the background..it also has a nifty little home widget...yu can also download astro file explorer to search files on ur phone...just like in wm ...there are apps and Widgets for all the issues yu stated...the best advice I can give tho is that if yu want a wm phone...then buy one...hold out for the hd7 and see if someone might trade yu for ur desire HD...hope I've helped..
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Thanks for the answer and as I said I already knew it will not be possible, HD with WM7 is close to android, no today screen and it is almost Iphone, I might sound old fashion but I believe it is hard to change things you got used to
I am a Linux user too (Ubuntu Lucid) is what I am using, I believe I will give Desire HD a try and see, maybe I might be able to find a way to install WM on it maybe I give Android a better look and see what it has.

1. No, there is no "X" button, but Android's memory management is clever enough that you don't need one.
2. There are plenty of file browsers available on the Marketplace
3. I assume you mean .wmv videos? Not sure on this one.
4. Not sure about this
5. You can get all manner of widgets for Android that show calendars and you can get task managers etc.
6. No, office isn't perfect, but it's getting better.
If all of this is really a concern for you - why not just get an HD2? It's the same screen size and most of the same features (give or take megapixels, DLNA and a couple of bits and pieces here and there). At least then you can run WM6.5 as default and toy with the Android port which is developing really well in the meantime.
Don't want you to hate me guys BUT i did use the HD2, and here are my notes:
-Battery runs out fast
-don't like the new start menu
-no pen comes with it (i understand that all new HTC don't) i am OK with it, BUT it is not smooth the way you want in HD2.
well i am sorry to cause you headache guys i am really lost here and i do like HTC phones it is just cannot find the one that do serves me as my HD (blackstone) do
The only thing i would spare the HD (BlackStone) is its slowness.
I might consider desire HD and give it a try.
Here is what I am talking about

@jmohik : So you wanna step back in time to WM6.1 ... if you dont like HD2 now... all the new phones (anytime soon now) are start gonna ship with WM7 .... as per your feedback and requirements, I believe you will ditch WM smartphones altogether
Btw...dont know what more do you want from a HD2 which is able to run a WM6.1, WM6.5, WM6.5.5, All Android Builds, and soon WM7 !
As far as battery, I get 1.5 days out of it .... dont expect more from such beasts...if you do, switch to Nokia
as i said ... i don't want you to hate me guys, and i said it is not easy to change things you got used to ....
well .... i will get the desire HD and i guess i will start on using it.
and BTW i also have a NOKIA E75
Thats the spirit !
It'd be far more interesting to know whether its possible to hack a WM7 rom onto the phone, seeing as the hardware looks identical to the HD7 that HTC are releasing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm Android all the way but theres no harm in experimenting!
I think you just need to spend 2-4 weeks with an Android phone running HTC Sense. I used to use a WM6.1 device, then WM6.5 and then moved to the HTC Hero which was on Android 1.5, and now 2.1. Since the first day I got the Hero, I have not looked back at WM. There really is no question about it.
I understand it all comes down to personal preference, but a Linux user like yourself should find Android easier to work with than those who don't use Linux.
As one of the other guys mentioned above, there are plenty of apps on the market you can get for free which do pretty much everything you say you want. The reason HTC don't provide a stylus these days is the screens are now capacitive not resistive, and better suited to fingers and thumbs. You can still get a stylus, but it would cost more.
P.S. I don't really have much love for the stock Android experience, as on the Nexus One... HTC Sense over the top of it is just amazing... in my opinion, but like I said, everyone has their own personal preference..!
i had an HD2 running wm6.53 and Android from the SD card. Dual booting serves no purpose BUT ITS GREAT!!!
I will get this device when its out as my HD2 died. I would love to be able to dual boot to WM7 just to give it a go.

Surely your HD2 is still within its 12 month warranty! I've had mine since it came out, that isn't even a year yet!
No one will put the time and effort in to port WP7 to an Android device, it just won't really be feasible given the amount of people who will actually want it.
Also, I can imagine it being a lot harder to go, given that WP7 is closed source, and Android is open source.
