Market/Gmail issues? - EVO 4G General

Is anyone else having issues with the Market/Gmail. I flashed several different roms and keep getting the "cannot establish a reliable data connection" message when trying to set up my gmail. I did hard resets, data resets, everything. Finally i did a nandroid restore so i can at least have my contacts and i still cant sync my gmail or get into the market. All other data and email accounts work fine.

i have been having issues with the market as well. Also if I search through google on my phone it will not do anything using search button and google web page will not load...

I too am having this issue. It just started for me last night. My brother is running stock on his EVO with no problem. I am on CM6 nightly (8/14) with snap kernel 7.1. I am about to flash the new CM6 release and hope that helps...

Yeah, I have flashed 3 or so roms today, and I even flashed my radios. I am currently running the stock (yet rooted) 2.2 for the EVO and still can not access the market (or anything else Google related.). I have attempted to get on the market using other phones around the office (Samsung Moment) and they too can not get on.
But, I have noticed that when I turn WiFi on it works like a dream. That is what is worrying me for some reason. I know other phones cant get to the market, but the fact that I can though WiFi makes me think something is wrong with my phone.
Maybe its just sprint...

i think it is sprint because i have a rooted evo here at work and it cannot access anything google. the guy down the hall has an unrooted stock 2.2 evo and it is the same thing.

I'm starting to think it is Sprint. A buddy of mine just came to my desk running a stock non-rooted EVO and he is having similar issues.

I'm having the same issues with gmail and market with stock 2.2.

i should also add that I am in St Louis. I read in the forums at androidforums that 1 guy had this problem and he was in st louis but others did not so it may not be all over.

I am in Minneapolis
I too am having the same problem. I do however have data with a 4G connection. I don't know if any of you have that option. I have no GMail, Google Maps/Nav, Internet, AppBrain with 3G but I do have Facebook.
When I switch to 4G I get all of that back. The only problem is that I don't have 4G everywhere I go.
Hope this gets fixed soon. Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one.

I am having the same issues, no google services work, that includes:
Google Talk
Gmail
Google Reader
Google Voice
pointing a browser at www.google.com
All other web surfing works fine, all other data works fine, full bars 3G
Tried factory data resets, 3 different roms
Flashed back to stock 2.2 still nothing.
I can't add Google accounts.
Sounds like basically no connection to any Google servers for any of their services.
Seems like its just through sprint though, maybe not, maybe sprints routers stopped routing traffic to Google for some reason.

Same problems -no market/gmail/etc on 3G but okay on 4G. I'm in Baltimore.

Same here in St. Paul. I wish this meant the official 4G roll-out was here, but it's probably not even related..

I also wish they would expand it juuuuust a little farther to Eden Prairie. But during the day I work in MPLS, so at least I have some 4G.
Also having some difficulties with pretty much anything Google related over 3G, but everything is gravy with 4G and WiFi. Also noticed this had started happening yesterday.

I'm in Birmingham, still having the problem, did get Google.com to come up once though, but can't search after that.

I am also having problems in St. Louis

Thinking about calling in and complaining.
I can't get to anything except on wifi. =/

someone should call in that isn't rooted lol. anyone out there that isn't haha?
Same thing here in central illinois

Same issues here, started last night. Data on wi-fi works like a champ, anything over 3G that is google related doesn't work at all. I'm in STL.
I think everyone needs to call.

Found a potential data unthrottle solution!!?!

First, a little bit about me that lead to how I came across this...
I work in the electronics department of a retail store, and when the days get slow I like to tether my G2 to the wifi enabled tv's and watch netflix with coworkers. I do this on almost a daily basis and burns through A LOT of data.
Of course after a few days I get the text message from T-Mobile after I get through my 5GB of (fake) unlimited data and will be slowed for the remainder of this billing cycle... This normally results in my downstream speeds going to a trickle of 7kb/s as apposed to my uncapped speeds of anywhere from 300kb/s to 1400kb/s.
So I have another job that I work on the days off sometimes and it's running deliveries. I use the navigation app to get to where ever it may be for work and sometimes my GPS doesn't like to locate me right away. When this happens at work, I start to panic (I don't know my way around town for sh*t) and try every solution on hand I can think of. I tried fixing permissions then network operator selections and eventually the GPS will locate me function just fine.
So I have never hit my cap while working my part time job doing deliveries, and have never really used the navigation app until I started working there and this is how I came across this uncapping of my data while trying to fix my gps, I went into wireless & network settings, then mobile networks, and select network operators, it does some searching for a bit then gives me the option for AT&T or T-Mobile, (I always just do select automatically) and after doing this, my data speeds return to normal... like I am still getting downloads at 600kb/s+.
According to the T-mobile "my account" app, I am at 7.26GB for this month.
(I will upload screens in a second for the naysayers)
Something about this network operator selection thing has the ability to unthrottle me everytime I go over my data. Not sure what actually happens behind the screens when I do this method but just thought I'd share in hopes that it may provide some help to others in a possible loop hole to the (fake) unlimited data issue a lot of us run into.
P.S. Noticed that the speedtest app always thinks I'm in Dallas TX every time I do the network operator unthrottle thing, when I actually live in the Chicago IL area.
Wow, this seems like a great find. finally we can maintain full speed over the month. Gonna definitely give this a try once my speed gets throttled. Thanks!
Just for safe measures before people start saying it's not working, I'd like to just make it known that I am currently running on CyanogenMod-7.1.0-RC1-vision and using 2.6.35.13-UmaroV1.06+ kernel. Radio-26.03.02.26_M. Dunno if that affects anything in this department lol.
Also one thing I've noticed and forgot to mention...If I connect to a wifi network, once I have disconnected from it, my speeds are throttled again but doing the operator selection unthrottles it. This is the only thing I've noticed that reactivates the throttle but is still fixed in a matter of minutes.
Ill test this once I finish download battlefield 3 though I dont think Ill hit 5gb once done. Probably need another 1GB or so.
BTW to save data from navigating, you can enable a feature in Google Maps 'labs' to allow caching map data. After enabling it, long press on a location and tell it to cache, it'll then download a 10 square mile radius of that point and save it to your SDcard (you can cache multiple areas). Then it won't cost you data next time you load that map
Anyways, interesting find! I wonder if its because it kinda... re-registers your phone on the network, and you get a new address / spot on the network? Idk... I've only hit my 5gb once and I wasn't capped so I can't really check this often.
My guess is that Tmobile servers learned your usage statistic including your location, amount of data consumed, most connected APNs nearby and usage schedule. They then use those factors to throttle/filter the APN you are connected to the most. But once you "refresh" the apn list or the cache on your phone by searching for network operators, your phone is no longer "blacklisted"
But that is just my theory.

Yes, I'm on T-Mobile. But I'm on CM7 like you are, and CM7 already includes the app. Is downloading it from the market the only way to get it to work?
I just downloaded it from market. Don't think it was there when I installed CM7.
Yeah, we known about this for a while. Same thing happens when you switch apns (wap.voicestream.com for example). It just changes your ip on the network and will last for several hours or until you reboot. Its temporary but works good enough. Too bad my old one doesn't work anymore. Its all controlled server side now.

In the build.prop in /system, with any text editor, you just need to change this:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.brand=vision (or whatever it says here)
to this:
ro.product.model=T-Mobile G2
ro.product.brand=tmobile
That's it. Reboot and it'll work just fine. I change it every time I update ROMs on CM.
The way I understood this: Once Throttled simply navigate to network operator settings and select your standard operator or reset your apn settings and you will at least for a certain limited time have unthrottled data?
At least as far as Berlin, Germany, network operator O2 goes: I cannot confirm that this actually works. (HTC Desire Z, latest Bulletproof MIUI rom).

Mine works on CM7 without editing build.prop about 90% of the time. Kinda weird people seem to have different results.

That's what I've been doing and it works great. Might just be a loop in the T-Mobile networks but I thought I'd share in case it wasn't brought to anyone's attention
Just to be sure I went for the latest nightly and tried again.
Made sure that I got new ip's. But still nothing. I guess that o2 germany simply handles throttling differently.
Thanks for sharing though, would've been nice if it worked.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
This didnt work for me. Im using MIUI Bulletproof ROM.
Although, right around the same time this thread was made, I went over the cap and still had full data speeds. It lasted 4-5 days I think.
I hit around 6.5 GB before I was finally throttled and that was around the end of Oct/beginning of Nov.

Network unavailable on Rooted & romed Sprint GS4

Ok, so hopefully the right person(s) will read this one and be able to help a guy out...
I just came back from honeymoon with my wife, a cruise in the Caribbean. While out there, We kept an eye out on our phones, she has metro pcs and I have a Sprint GS4 running AOKP...
We got signal when we got to St. Thomas and were able to communicate with family and friends, but as we sailed away, we lost signal and I got a crazy idea...
I went to the network settings on my phone and switched the phone to "Global" mode and tried to see if I could get a signal... Got nothing, so I figured ill just switch back...
Got to Puerto Rico, where Sprint is Sprint, but my phone wouldn't connect automatically... I went to the settings and found a different menu altogether and tried to find the "get me the hell back to sprint" setting... No luck, but i did find the "network operator" menu, searched and found sprint. Selected it, but was greeted with a "no service: Selected network (sprint) is unavailable)...
Strangely enough, LTE would connect a full blast, but no 3g, 2g, 1x or cell service...
I've been trying to get it back, but it just doesn't work... Now, I'm back home and still, nothing. My phone is basically a big music player that only connects on wifi...
Anyone ever encounter this? Is my only hope to restore it to stock??? I hope not =/...
Anyone willing to help out a just married guy with a weird acting Sprint Galaxy s4???
Thanks in advance... (screenshots attached...)

I have never encountered this but try creating a back up of your current rom then go back to a TW rom and update your profile / prl (if that dont work try ##72786# on your dialpad). Once you have network connection flash your back up. Let me know how it goes

I think my wife just got WiFi calling enabled on T-Mobile!

My wife just got the 5.1 OTA last night and right now when she had a call come in a new answer screen popped up asking if she wanted to answer normal or answer on wifi!... Unfortunately we are out and about now. I will try to get a pic later

Stop, just stop. I am SICK and tired of seeing these posts. We are talking about WiFi calling on T-Mobile. EVERY single thread that talks about it has the "HANGOUTS IS SOOOO MUCH BETTER!!!!" It is not constructive to the conversation. We know about hangouts. We use hangouts BUT WE NEED WIFI CALLING. We have our own reasons. Just STOP.
@Topgun966 I'm new to T-Mobile and N6 is, obviously, the first device I've used on their network ... In regards to WiFi calling, I assume when you place a call via WiFi the party on the other end sees your regular # displayed? (sorry for the off topic question OP)

If you want WiFi calling, I suggest using this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.hangoutsdialer
Hmmm... Well, when T-Mobile gets Wi-Fi Calling in, a lot might not notice. It uses the same dialer, no difference.
Really the only way to tell is that you get a notification that w/c is active and you see your phone radio disabled. Functionally, it's exactly the same as normal dialing.

I have used wifi calling all the way back to when it called UMA/blackberry days
Yes, the other end sees it as a normal call. In fact it appears as normal call on both ends. The only difference is that works even buried deep in a building as long as you have a wifi connection. No cell connection needed. Texting and everything just work as if you had cell signal.

Exactly. Your phone works just like a normal phone for texts/calls/mms but data is transferred over wifi. So when you traveling to places outside of T-mos network or traveling internationally, it acts just the same. For someone like me that travels quite often, I need it. My GV number is just for professional and spam calls. No one in my personal life has that number, as the way I want it. When I am overseas, or in a place with no coverage, I have to use my iPhone 6 for the wifi calling and I am telling you, that is annoying.
basically Hangouts IS wifi calling. Who cares, as long as you can make the damn call. It does work great, use it on my computer and tablets all the time with no carrier subscription. get a Google number folks

Someone posted a similar problem a while back. Give it a quick search to see if he resolved it.
UPDATE:
So ive been going through these forums trying to find a solution to the problem with no luck.
However I believe I narrowed the problem down a bit. I went to MetroPCS which is T-mobile and bought a new sim to make sure mine wasnt bad and had the associate confirm the apn settings which they did and still no 3g, h+. Then I called up a couple friends who have Cricket and At&t and asked if I could put their sim in my phone. Tried both sim cards and they worked! Wooo all three connections good 4g,h,3g.
Weird thing is there are a couple other people on here with my problem but there are others on tmobiles network with no problem. Maybe its a firmware issue? Nevertheless I like this phone too much to risk trying to root and bricking it so im leaving tmobiles network.

Just tested this out since I'm also with T-Mobile, seems to be a problem with LTE CAT6 CA. Turn it off and you should be fine.
FINALLY!
OK so I unlocked the boot loader and rooted it even though I said I didn't want to lol . I was on c185b162 firmware and I flashed a couple of different firmwares that didn't work. But someone posted a full update c185b320 and it worked woooo!!!. I already had twrp installed and just did the wipe and installed c185b320 from twrp. I don't know if installing from twrp is different from the DL folder method but the phone is working so yeah.

CA stands for carrier aggregation
Oh, well that's good to know. However with this new firmware I can leave it enabled and still get 3g and h+. Hopefully disabling carrier aggregation will be an easy fix for someone else with the same problem.

Verizon Messages+ stuck on "Please Wait Starting Service"

The year is 2017. I see threads going back to 2015 about this issue, but no one's seemed to solve the problem. There's a Verizon Messages+ app for iOS, Android and Desktop PC's that allow you to forward or 'sync' text messages of a Verizon line to another device. I say 'line' because it works flawlessly on the Desktop PC app and Android tablet (which neither were purchased or has anything to do with Verizon).
Here's my scenario:
Phone 1: iPhone 6S 32GB (Verizon work phone) - has 4GB data allowance
Phone 2: GINORMOUS T-Mobile V20 (Personal phone) - unlimited data
Having both phones and a wallet in one pocket is absurd. T-Mobile's 'DIGITS' app is failing - at best. I can't get it to stay active more then 10 minutes. Therefore my goal here is to *73 and forward my Verizon calls to my personal T-Mo phone and just block caller ID on outgoing calls because I don't know how to spoof caller ID into showing another number (my Verizon work line), THEN use this famed 'Messages+' app on my T-Mobile phone since all my co-workers seem to want to text more than make phone calls. Before you say anything, I had Google Voice for YEARS and was a huge talker about it - but it failed me so many times, and making calls on an iOS device never shows the correct number on caller ID when calling out. It was extremely awkward. Also, if you're in a bad service area and GV can't make an Internet connection to initiate the call, you're screwed.
If I download the Messages+ app for desktop to my laptop, it works damn good. No lag, it's instant and has lots of features! But, if I install it on my T-mo personal phone and try to 'activate' or whatever it wants, it just sits there looking at me funny. THIS IS SO IRRITATING. I CAN NOT BE the only one with the situation of dealing with two phones. I'm out of the office 75% of the time traveling going from airport to airport and can't miss calls or texts.
Does ANYONE have any kind of input on how I can resolve this issue? I'm at the point now to where I'm just going to cancel my T-mo personal account and have people call me at home like they did in the 90's. Does Verizon really think I want to do this? Why would this app work flawlessly on a desktop, but not an Android phone? Isn't the Internet the Internet? I don't want to sync anything, I just want to RECEIVE and SEND text messages.
What gives? I am SO FRUSTRATED over this.
vzw user here with 3 phones and user of message+(great app) the trick for me i've noticed is you MUST have a verizon sim installed for the app to properly "start service" then you can remove sim after. If it's a non cellular device, like samsung tab-s no sim needed, but once the app realizes it's a cellular device, you need a sim. The sim can be removed AFTER the service starts and as long as you regularly use the app on the phone after it 's activated you're good, but if you stop for like a few days, it knows and deactivates the service.
hope that helps

I appreciate the response, but that didn't work for me. I have a G5 plus unlocked and I installed the messages+ app and it worked perfect with the Verizon sim. Then I turned the phone off, stuck the T-Mo sim in, powered on and loaded up that app. As soon as it opened an error came up that said "MDN SETTINGS CHANGED. APPLICATION RESETTING!" and brought me back to the first screen you see with the app.
I really think I'm doomed. This is so unfortunate.

Oh sorry, I didn't realize you were putting the tmo sim back in, ans as soon as the app sees that sim it deactivates, sucks that VZW makes it that way, as my wifi tablet just works, unless you could trick the messages + app to thinking it's not installed on a phone, but thats beyond my skill set
Yeah, I thought about that, but it's over my head too. That app works great on my tablet too. Ahh well, maybe someone will see this blog and have a miracle answer! Tha J's for trying though!
I use the Verizon Messages + app as my main SMS (w/ MetroPCS service /tmobile) since it has a lot of features I like plus works really well with Android Wear 2.0 ...
I do know it does take a little time to get past the "starting messages screen" (maybe 1 min or so)... but so far the only issue i've seen is that occasionally i will receive duplicate sms messages in a group chat... not sure how to fix it..
thought i'd give you an update.. but now i've had issues with the app deleting / removing conversations from my list.. at first i thought it was related to accidently hitting delete on my watch.. but the second time it happened i know it wasn't me directly.. so i have deleted the app.. back to Textra for me...
