Is there a stock Android ROM for the captivate anywhere yet?
No. there is one in development though.

i cant wait for a stock android. looking forward to cmod6.1
dont hold your breath this one is going to take a bit of time to develop...look for the thread by hansmrtn he is taking on the task.. for the time being load stock samsung rom, and check out the sre thread.. you wont be upset with the outcome.. they really did a nice job putting it all together..
Yeah me too mate. I really hate the samsung contacts list and the lack of the scroll tab and other things like that.
Are the stock Galaxy S roms basically the rom without AT&T crap? I might have to try those out, if they are relatively bug free.
Hansmartn is making progress on the vanilla rom, he said last night that he think he got data working, alpha build might be just around the corner

Since my rom isn't out yet I've decided to move the thread here. I'm leaning towards the miui interface as of right now and am testing a miui rom to get acquainted with it and familiar with the guts of it. I got to say that it's very zippy. I had thought about putting together a senseless rom that would be stripped of all unnecessary bloatware and good on battery life not to mention fast. After testing miui for the past day, I'm leaning more towards miui. Out would be relatively easy to compile a rom based on the stock base, but it wouldn't be fresh. I'm still waiting to hear back bout using the name "Light Speed" before I actually make it the official name. Although the idea is to make it light with speed. Essentially you would have to install all your favorite apps but the crucial apps for the operation of the rom would have to remain. Afa launcher and lock screen, I'm still deciding and am open to suggestions.

Are you planning on compiling from source, or pretty much ripping and tweaking different aspects of ROMs into a new compilation?
Hey, I would like to help with development on this. I believe you're looking for collaboration? I've some experience theming, and a little with compiling.
I was thinking MIUI with Rosie? That would be cool

I'm not familiar enough with compiling. Probably just ripping and tweaking for now. Don't want to bork someones phone and need to get a rom going that's stable and reliable first. Maybe after MIUI releases a source code we can cook something up from scratch. Rosie is nice but it would have to be heavily modded to get something outstanding and original.

Just wanted to give an update. Still testing miui by nix right now. I'm probably going to get going with a sense based rom. Work has been hectic. Working twelve hour might shifts seven days a week. It will be a light and fast rom. Still have some things to consider for a miui rom.

guys i like my super clean rom for DL09 but the one thing i miss about my OG droid is that when ever i flashed a rom it would add features that would make it more compelling to stick with. The only thing i see with the fascinate roms are de-binging with no new features added not saying the devs don't work hard its just are there any roms out there that add features not specifing to which but just saying add them
On super clean, you can put DJ05 theme over it. Make sure to install DL09_aosp_lock_theme_hax after flashing the theme; it makes DJ05 themes compatible.

bro i am sorry but that doesn't answer any question i was asking
They are coming, pk and jt are working to bring 2.2 asap. Bird is bringing 2.3. Luckily, there are not too many differences in the RIL between 2.2 and 2.3 for the developers. However, birdman has said that this phone is on 1.5 RIL.
okay so everyone knows what i am talking about google miui when i had that on my d1 it literally made me think i had a new phone
It will come...give it time.

Right now most of the development work is going into digging the community out of the ditch Samsung abandoned our near-dead bodies in. Once out of said ditch, then various nifty features should start appearing (especially with CM on the Fascinate).

Hi people, i have also a galaxy s2, coming from a nexus s and from the first day i have removed all touchwiz and Samsung apps garbage and replaced many stock applications with nexus s stock one.
Now i'm a little hungry because.i don't feel fine with these and i want miui Rom again. I can be quite also with cyanogenmod.
But the question is.... What's the % of progress for these? I know that all teams do that only for passion and not for work, but a news of progression status will make all people like me happy!

have fun WAITING. that's all i can say. just because a new phone was just released, don't expect ROMs for it right at the beginning. all models are configured differently so devs need time to figure out the inner workings before they can convert/create themes or ROMs....
:-(

I wouldn't expect cm7/miui for a long long time at best, the sgs has been out for almost a year and cm7 is still in beta/alpha stage.
I thought the nexus s was a pure google phone with no bloat or touchwiz? How do you remove what is not there?

Posting this because I'm curious as to how long it took for stable ROMs to be available for Froyo. I'm on SFR 1.2, it is my 1st and only ROM, which I got as soon as it came out. I wasn't there for the wait for development, and now that I am for Gingerbread, I'm wondering what's the "average wait time" for stable ROMs? If I had to use a direct example: since Froyo was made available, how long before SFR 1.2 showed up? It would give me a better sense of understanding the development in that aspect. It would also give me something to look forward to; to more or less "know" (or think I know - lol) when to expect the stable ROMs. I've been reading the development of LegendaryROM and ACS ICS and although tempting, I can't bring myself to installing these just yet. Nothing against the people working hard on them, but they are in Beta/WIP stage; and after months of great performance with SFR 1.2, I know I want THE final build
I'm also aware that it may vary; but still an idea of how long would be nice. I'd like to point out I'm not asking for specific ETAs; just wondering

You must be afraid to try something else? Maybe not skilled enough to bounce from creative rom to rom? What do you have to lose? I'm on ei22 thunderhawk and I can tell you this rom is stable, as all the other ei22's I've sampled. If you install correctly, you'll be fine. Its the overclocking that begins the issues.

I've flashed more ROMs on other friend's phones. I'm aware of the steps to take. Not really afraid, just no need to flash other stuff. And from what I've read, some people are having problems with either data, wifi, bluetooth, force closing apps, gps, hotspot, among other things, on the current EI22 ROMs. I'm aware these are happening because of the fact they were just recently released and are in beta. And as for overclocking, never had to do it. Phone is fast enough, and when I've tried before it always freezes it :3 And can you blame me for being hesitant? I depend too much on my phone, and even though most of those who decide to flash EI22 are enjoying its goodness, some have bugs. Bugs I can't afford to have :>

This ^^ I've managed to make every possible use out of my phone. Managing files for college work, gaming, videos, sharing and all that good stuff, along with less useful things. Somehow, with all the crap I've stacked on my phone, it all runs smoothly. I am enjoying this "balance" too much to flash another ROM at the moment.
Still curious about overall "time frame"

Personally I'm on Legendary Rom 3.3... no real issues, other than intermittent wifi problems. Exchange activesync email works, gmail works fine, no random reboots, etc. Give it a shot if you want.
As most dev's will say it is done when it is done. This is not their full time thing so I would guess it would be hard to put a timeline on it.
SRF1.2 took a bit of time before it got to where it is. I believe we may of had a few more people working on it back then too.

We have the kernel source and aosp source for ICS (not JB)(obviously) so why hasn't anyone made an aosp Rom? It seems even other devices get AOSP roms a lot faster. Is there a problem with porting AOSP to the S3 phones in general (US VERSIONS) or does no dev really care for AOSP and is happy with TouchWiz? I don't know, and I'm just curious. Just to be clear, I'm not asking any devs to get on it or work on it or rush it, just pure curiosity. Thanks. Hoping some devs could reply to clear some things up.

If you have been reading. The devs are having to unravel a disgusting amount of code because the touch wiz is integrated with everything. We are running a %0 true android experience. It's going to take time. With all due respect if you can't wait do it yourself. Good luck.

Yeah I get that it's running touchwiz which is like you said basically a 0% true android experience but wouldn't you just be able to delete the touchwiz all together and flash a new Rom. I'm not exactly sure what the problems are that are stopping devs from just installing a Rom onto it after removing touchwiz. I can wait I was just asking out of curiosity lol.

You can't do that without achieving AOSP. ICS AOSP is helpful, but everyone wants JB.
The JB AOSP source code isn't out and when it is, the closed-source RIL is the biggest obstacle to making it work.

You can't have AOSP ROMS without the AndroidOpenSource for 4.1, which isn't out for 2 more weeks. And for 4.0, the devs still need time.
someone else mentioned that a lot of the devs might have held out for the 32gb models which were hard to come by opening week. the 16gb versions came out first. anyway, there are a lot of great devs on board, and not just historically samsung devs. htc devs like myn will be pumping out roms soon enough.
i won't lie though... some jellybean love would be beautiful.

Yeah, I hope by the time the SGS4 rolls around in a year that 32GB will be the new low-end, with 64GB the step up. I really hope we don't stagnate here -- or worse: go backwards -- just because of this cloud crap.
My guess would be that most of the devs have the international version. They have had AOSP roms for weeks. Not to mention cm9, aokp, and about to get miui4
My guess would be that the phone is just getting released in the US and maybe the devs are waiting for 4.1 source so we can have a Jelly Bean AOSP rom instead of spending so much time to create an ICS AOSP. That doesn't make much sense to me, why waste time on ICS when JB is coming out in couple of weeks.
Can't most efforts on ICS apply to JB, or do things like project butter really change up the porting?
I imagine Google Play on stock/root or CM9 would be a lower-hanging fruit.

Try and just take it explorer on Windows and see how far you get. It's not as simple as just deleting touchwiz.
