Hello everybody
I received an unlock code from T-mobile for my Vibrant, but it gives me an "unlock unsuccessful" message. I called T-mobile, and they essentially told me "it should work, sorry." I was wondering if the problem might have something to do with the fact that my phone is rooted...
And if that is an issue, can I use the nandroid method to unroot it? Odin doesn't seem to work for me; it always stops at "file analysis." I've heard that other people using Windows x64 have the same issue.
Look at the IMEI in the e-mail they sent you. Make sure they copied right. It will be on the top left 3rd line down.
Yeah, the IMEI is right. Also, I've heard that it's possible for these phones to be hardlocked... is there a chance that the seller accidentally hardlocked it before sending it to me?
I don't think so. T-Mobile would be the one doing the hard-locking.
Is there any other way for me to unlock the phone?
I was rooted when I requested the unlock code from tmo - it worked as expected
You didn't get your phone directly from tmo?

I have to wait a month until i can get mine unlocked.
I recent;y had another phone unlocked from them.
I didn't buy it from tmo, but I don't see why that would make a difference... they still gave me the unlock code based on the IMEI I gave them. They say they can't give me another unlock code, and I'm currently 7000 miles from the nearest T-mobile store (that was their "solution" - go to the store). Any idea whether it'd be worth it to try sinking $30 into one of the eBay unlockers?
I have the same problem with my vibrant. i purchased an unlock code from ebay with 100% success rate but when I entered the code: "network lock request unsuccessful"
I have the same problem with my vibrant. i purchased an unlock code from ebay with 100% success rate but when I entered the code it says "Network Lock Request Unsuccessful". Apparently the only way around this is to remove the Network Lock all together. Removing the network lock is done through unlocking software but unfortunately there is no software compatible with the Vibrant as of yet. Getting another code will not work either as your IMEI will give you the same code again. i just purchased an I-Smart SIM card, hopefully this will work. I will keep you posted
Don't buy from ebay EVER!!
Unlock codes are free from TMO
The sent me my unlock code 3 days after I bought it. It didn't work at first. I called TMO apparently my IMEI was truncated. they sent new unlock code and it worked perfectly.
Remember if you put your unlock code in to many times unsuccessfully, there is nothing TMO can do to get it unlock. It has to go back to Samsung
The reason I asked if you purchased the phone from someone else but TMO you might want to contact the seller and see if they can help you out.
they must have given you the wrong unlock code. Also, if you entered wrong unlock code 3 times, your phone will freeze and you would have to buy a unfreeze code online.
No wait unlock code

I go mine unlocked on ebay. It coast me $29 but well worth it. Took the seller 3 days to get the code and it worked.
Also T-MOBILE does not hard lock these. they can become hard locked if you enter the unlock code unsuccessfully 3 to 5 times. If you got that message once... i would not try again with that code. I would just get it from Ebay... T-mobile does not have a good track record with unlock codes for the Vibrant or the Garminfone

That is the reason I bought it from eBay. It took 15 seconds of my time, and the seller sent it within a few hours. By contrast, I have to figure out whom to email at Tmo, give them time to generate it, and then get it back to me. Certainly not worth my $30 to do more and wait 3 days.

How do you think the ebay sellers get their codes to sell you for 30 bucks?
cparekh...you're pretty dumb....lol

Uhm...you can get one for free even if you don't have tmo? Who do I send this email to?

call tmobile and ask for unlock code, or buy an unlock code
I got an unlock code just today, less than 24 hours after I purchased one from Horizon Wireless. This site is a well known over at blackberryforums.com (where I used to hang out until I got into HTC phones).
I'd post a link to it here, but it says I'm too new of a user.
There is even a discount code of: HOR10 - Gets you 10% off. Hope this helps you out.
You can find them cheaper on ebay. IIRC paid $10 for a T-Mo G1 and $5 for a Rogers.
I bought my G1 off ebay and he got a printout of the directions and the code from T-Mobiles web site somehow. The paper was short, sweet and to the point..Best bet's to call em'.
I used a site (I'm to new to post a link but in Google type in unlock-tmobileg1) and it was worth it. It arrived within minutes. I tried calling t mobile but they said that the original carrier or something had to talk to them.
Hi,
I currently got a HTC HD2 SPL 2.08.HSPL and I was wondering if there is a way to unlock it, so I can use other carriers. I bought like 4 unlock codes and none of them worked... Is there any other method I can try to unlock it?
Thank you
from where you bought the code?
Hey I got my phone from my relative in the US and it was locked with T-mobile as well. I can't post links since this is my 1st post but google "mobileincanada". It should be the 1st link on the list.
Its cost $20 which is the cheapest compared my local stores which charged me around $40-60 to unlock the service provider. Also I received my code within 20 minutes. If you want to be sure, you can email them your IMEI code and ask if they can unlock it. I know you probably skeptical at this point since you have already tried 4 codes from other site. People that have used this site before leave feedback, you can look for my name (Carter Nguyen) in the feedback.

I bought the code from
freeyourhtc.com
cellunlocker.net
and 2 on ebay and none of them worked
T Mobile or a local store that hooks it up tho there pc should be able to generate the code, but there is no cert here
I just got my unlock code from cellunlocker.net. It took just 5 minutes to get it. 20 bucks.
just call t-mobile. don't pay for that crap.
they emailed me my code, it took like an hour for the code to arrive.
T-Mobile
i have been waiting for more than a week now. no news from T-mobile after calling them. You must be very luck to get the code in just an hr. hmmm. please can anyone recommend a good site?
That is the problem with the network providers. They dont give the codes quickly. So the customers go in search of online providers for the codes. Even i was in the same situation when i wanted to unlock my mobile. I then unlocked my mobile at WickedUnlock.com within hours. You can trust this guy from whom i got the code. They provide genuine codes.
I recently got a second Defy from Orange UK as they were selling it for £99 PAYG
I searched the forum and the net to get it unlocked as her sim is on Virgin mobile.
Best advice seemed to suggest using sellers on bay so I found one and ordered on 31st Dec.
On 3rd no email with code so sent seller email to which I got reply saying should get it today tomorrow.
Tomorrow came and no code so sent email but got no reply.
Sent an email requesting code again today to which I got following reply.
"Yes I know that. Moto is down, would you like to cancel. Otherwise we have to wait until i hear back when they are going to be providing codes again. THis is Worldwide so noone can get codes"
Could anyone clarify if this is true and if you can suggest places to get it unlocked ASAP.
My defy is an orange UK model and I too have a virgin sim. Got mine unlocked from eBay seller from the US. Took about 10 days. A little research beforehand looked like the Motorola servers are the only place to generate the unlock codes. I would wait unless you suspect a dodgy seller.

Yep the seller I chose on eBay is from the US too 'freedomobile-comm'
Guess I am just a bit frustraited that he didn't inform me of the issue and is still listing on eBay.
Mine was from Swift unlocks who also go as Unlockfusion. Make sure you get a 16 digit code (I think) as the old Motos were only about an 8 digit unlock code. Good luck.

There is a free unlock method available by the way. It's the one from a Russian forum, but many people don't seem to be able to make it work...
I'll put up info on it tomorrow for anyone wanting to just get going with their phone
It's not permanent and doesn't replace the code. But it gets round it. It works on CM7, and perhaps other ROMs if you follow the instructions I wrote today.
Any chance of the guide mate as I'm still waiting for a reply on the purchased code.
Do you know if it works on the stock rom?.

I will upload the info. What baseband do you have just now?
I need you to post your /system/bootmenu/2nd-init/ (file with umts in the name).rc
This requires you to be rooted, using 2nd init
Search for 'soft unlock defy' on XDA and you will get the link. Not a permanent unlock.

Phones not rooted as its brand new.
I've not rooted my other defy or this new one as it seems more complicated than I am used to.
I've still not got a reply from the code seller as to when he is likely to get code from Motorola.
Its never been so difficult to get a phone unlocked.

I got a code fine from mine. Order placed on Thursday night (9pm UK time), with a Canadian seller. It arrived Monday at about 9am. Not bad considering they go by working days.
Regarding soft unlock, it's same method posted here.
I just updated it to work on more recent ROMs by editing the init.rc file up suitably.
For the record, just add the line starting the service bp_ptc, in the same place as in the example one. Use the binary for your baseband.
And it requires root. In theory this should work on any rom provided you edit the ROMs init.rc file suitably...
Code finally arrived last night and worked, so all sorted now.
Purchased on eBay on 31/12/11
Received code on 12/01/12
11 emails sent
5 received
I'm making this thread simply because I searched and searched and there was nothing for free like in the days of the htc kaiser/raphael, hadn't used my hd2 for a long time and decided to give it to my dad, since he's too cheap to get a good phone lol, and I have 2 hd2s decided to hook him up.
Now after searching here for it, people mostly sent you to htcunlock and some similar others which are still charging $20 US dolars to unlock a 3 year old phone, well I found a listing on ebay and even though a bit skeptical I decided to give it a try since it was only $3.72 with shipping charge, got my unlock code within a few hrs, flashed winmo 6.5(talk about a blast from the past) and put the code in and done, tested it on AT&T and working fine. I just sent the info for my 2nd hd2 so I can unlock that one also. :good:
Here's the link for the people that still use it or the new comers that bought it second hand looking to unlock.

it was brought to my attention that this won't work with Orange, but like anything else here at XDA , try at your own risk, if it doesn't work you're only out a few bucks .
Nice advertising.
Otherwise, word of advice, BEWARE of HD2's from certain mobile operators(f.e. Orange) as unlock codes WILL NOT WORK. The only option for unlocking those devices are original Orange codes(which cost a lot) or XTClip/cracking boxes
be safe and get and original unlock code from Orange. or buy a prepaid phone since your father is so cheap. where im from you can get one for 18 dollar with 18 dollar credit
I'm sorry for my misunderstanding but I thought all hd2 unlocked the same, I have US T-Mobile hd2s, for both already unlocked for $7.44 with this service, I figured that the models listed in the ad could be unlocked the same way. I'll edit the title when I get home.

Had quite a bit of trouble with cheaper unlocking not working on many providers. Pay a little more for decent source of original codes or HTC database codes or get it unlocked via a local decent mobile shop as not too expensive these days.

Yeah I hear you but since I no longer use the phones, I found a good cheap source which worked fine, I paid $7.44 US and got both my hd2s Sim unlocked. I don't think you can get any better than that. I posted this to show people a cheap alternative to paying lots more, if anyone uses this and it doesn't work, they're out what cost to get a bag of chips and a soda!
RoloRacer on RootBox Nexus 10
Supersize that order & you get hassle free full unlock.
Can be lucky with cheap codes but I had too many failures with eBay codes ...
