[GUIDE] How to fix GPS issues on CM6 - EVO 4G General

many of us have had issues with the GPS being stuck on "waiting for location."
if flashing the CM6 final didn't fix it for you, I have a solution that worked for me. your mileage may vary.
1. download netarchy's rooted stock froyo rom
link: http://massmirror.com/7f191510efa40b999eec50b09e9dd116.html
2. put it on your sd card
3. wipe data, cache, dalvik-cache (2x if you'd like)
4. flash netarchy's rom
5. wipe data, cache, dalvik-cache before rebooting (2x if you'd like)
6. boot up the rom and enable gps location, but disable wifi location
7. go into maps and make sure it works
8. wipe data, cache, dalvik-cache (2x if you'd like)
9. flash CM6 final
10. wipe data, cache, dalvik-cache (2x if you'd like)
that should fix it. I'm not sure how many of those wipes are unnecessary, but you can figure that out. =D

What was the gps problem for you exactly? I don't seem to be noticing any issues on cm6 w/o doing this, but maybe I just don't understand what the problem actually is.

My GPS works within 5 seconds on locating me.. I have to say I never updated my radio or winmax at all when I downgraded and rooted my phone. I saw people having problems so I checked. Everything is working. Good luck on your problem.

I was having trouble with my gps and tried the above, it now sort of works. I came from baked snack 1.5 and couldnt get a lock.
did a nandroid then went back to baked enabled gps disabled wireless location and flashed back to cm6. it took a few minutes to get a lock and subsequent locks have been better though gps still is alot slower to lock and doesnt track me as well as it did with baked snack...
I also cannot get wireless network location service to work at all in CM6, if my gps is off it has no idea where I am and just times out.
any ideas?

i just fixed my gps. I used a method which of course i can't find the link now. the steps were,
1. call sprint and got MSL
2. reboot into recovery
3. nandroid backup data
4. wipe, dalvik, cache, data
5. load rooted stock sense rom
6. use phone dial pad and dial ##GPSCLRX#
7. enter MSL code, the phone will then reboot
8. test GPS lock, go to navigation gps lock should be instant when you enter a destination.
9. reboot back into recovery, wipe data, cache, dalvik.
10. recover nandroid backup
hope this helps.

Yep, I wrote the OP here's the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=772254
good luck and the GPSCLRX approach worked for me and the approach in this thread unfortunately didn't. What I found interesting that maps will not even attempt to find your location if you disable Wireless location.

Upgrading Roms MIUI 1.6.1 to 1.6.17

Hi i'm currently running MIUI 1.6.1 and i just finally got it completely setup exactly how i want it, took me like hours upon hours a day for a week getting all my apps and contacts and data set up along with themeing etc etc
I want to upgrade to the newer one that just came out today the 1.6.17 -- Do i have to do a FULL Factory reset/delvik cache and/ cache wipe?
or can i just wipe the delvik and cache and then flash overtop without losing everything?
Basically i dont want to have to go back in and re-fix my Sprint VVM and re-add Swype again as both those took me like 50 installs a piece to get working, along with like 50 apps i downloaded, and all my contacts, etc, etc do i have to do a full wipe and start from scratch again, or can i just flash and upgrade and keep all my stuff without doing a full factory reset and also without having a ton of errors and force closes?

Doesn't Titanium Backup or Mybackup Pro work with MIUI?

First backup using MIUI's built in backup. It had two parts: system and stuff, and apps. Back up all the apps. Then backup wifi and desktop at the very least. I don't backup contacts because then I get duplicates.
Reboot into recovery
Nand backup
Wipe just cache and dalvik cache.
Flash the update
Reboot.
Usually this is fine. But if you get fc's then you probably need to wipe clean everything and then restore via backup.
It's not.that bad. I've never had any problems re-installing swype and/or sprint voicemail. The only thing I usually have to redo is the theme.
Evo HW 003
MIUI 1.6.17
Cut Corners theme
I have been running MIUI for a couple of months now. Whenever I flash a new release (an update, in my situation) I just wipe cache & dalvik then flash. Once the rom has fully booted and settled, I'll reboot. I let it fully boot, then reboot into recovery (Amon 2.3) and "fix apk uid mismatches", then wipe cache and dalvik again, flash Tiamat since they started including the CM kernel instead, then reboot and I'm good to go. My theme sticks throughout and I haven't run into any problems doing it this way, other than broken themes from constant ui changes... which thankfully finally slowed down. Sometimes I'll skip on fixing permissions, it's more of a ritual than necessary.
Last week I decided it was probably time for a full wipe so I did. Between the MIUI Backup app & Titanium Backup Pro, setting back up took roughly 15-30 minutes (including flashing the rom and kernel). Just nandroid first to be safe, but I've always treated it as an update.

Transformer TF101 Home and lock not working

Hi,
Hopefully someone has a solution for me.
This morning I switched on my TF101 and when I tried to go home from Gmail the button lit up but did nothing. I was convinced it didn't work. So I treid a few reboots and still nothing. I tried some other launchers and still nothing.
On further inspection I realised that when turning on slide unlock that also didn't work. Changing to pin, pattern or password still shows no unlock.
Are you running stock or a custom ROM?
Are you running stock recovery or a custom one?
I'd try to wipe the cache and dalvik, it fixes lots of weird software issues.

It's the stock ROM rooted with debugfs.
I know how to wipe the cache but how do I wipe the dalvik. I remember doing it once a couple of years ago on another device but for the life of me now can't remember.
I was going to try clearing the davlik with Terminal Emulator and typed "su" followed by "ls" and all it showed is "recovery". Does this mean it's somehow landed in recovery mode? If so, how do I get out of it?
I managed to clear dalvik through terminal emulator. Optimised apps and rebooted but the problem persists.

If you have CWM, go to advanced, wipe Davlik.

Thanks, now I remember I used CWM.
I thought I'd report back on this in case the information might help someone else down the line.
I tried the cache/davlik clear method and that did nothing for me. I stuck with it for a few days and eventually resorted to button saviour. I also realised that not only was the home button and any lock screen not working, but when using the ASUS quick settings in notifications it didn't show all settings.
This lead me to believe something in the system itself had gotten warped.
Today I did a Titanium backup, factory reset and restored all apps, data and system data. Initially it was fixed but on restart the problem casme back. I knew I'd restored whatever had caused the issue. My next step was to do another factory reset. Since it takes minutes to manually get the system back I only restored apps and data.
This time, after restore the issue was gone. So clearly the issue was in a system setting.
So for anyone else having this issue. Backup with Titanium, factory reset and only restore apps+data.

[Q] SPH-L900/Sprint USA - OMNI was working fine, now no mobile network services

Started with OMNI shown on galaxynote2root.com. Was working nearly flawlessly until today when I lost my mobile network (all services: phone, text, data - antenna was essentially gone). Not clear on exactly what I did when it occurred but I did flash 1/13/14 nightly manually via CWM (have done this with the previous nightly's without any problems). Tried wiping cache/data, Dalvik w/o luck. Tried formatting my internal SD also w/o luck. Doing a fresh install (as opposed to restore) did restore all mobile network services but of course I am now having to re-setup my phone. After installing fresh install, tried restoring w/o any wipe - again no luck.
Quite frustrating. I had read something out there that talked about remapping the tree (not sure what this means). In any case, is there a fix for this so I can restore my prior backups with mobile services working and also avoid this the future?
So here we go again; no service after wipe. Grrrrrrrr!!

So here we go again. Went to load the stock Sprint TouchWiz ROM. Wiped cache partition, wiped Dalvik, and did stand wipe cache/data. Had some issue with the stock ROM flashing so I went ahead and loaded my backup I just made of my newly setup OMNI ROM. And once again no network service what so ever. I really enjoy this ROM but it's thinks like this that push me back to the most supported ROM for my phone, the TouchWiz ROM. It's like I'm being held hostage to this Omni ROM in the sense that it appears that should I want do any wipe of any sorts or anything to that effect I'm essentially screwed and might as well just flash the the original ROM all over again.
There's got to be one of you Dev's out there that knows why this is happened and can let me know if there is a fix for this that will allow me to keep my setup as is. Someone who's knows, please response. If you need more info, please ask. I'm about to ditch this ROM over this issue. Otherwise, nearly flawless use of the ROM until this point.
Okay, so I was able to find a fix for this problem. After the complete wipe as described in my second post, I restored my recent backup. As mentioned above, no mobile service whatsoever at that pont. I then restarted back into CWM recovery and flashed the same version nightly as that of my backup and it appeared to do an update. I was then able to boot back into my restored backup with everything intact and all mobile services working.
Yes, I found a fix for myself but Devs why the heck do I have to go through that? Why cannot I not simply restore my backup and go on with life? Much headache over the past day or so over this.
So I installed the the 1/13/14 nightly as a fresh install. I stared messing around with advanced restore. When I restore only the /system folder that is when I lose all mobile cell services.

[Q] 4.4.2 deodex

Is anyone on the special 4.4.2 nc2 having a problem with rotation where it works on reboot then doesn't after five to ten min. My auto brightness is also flaky I've updated to the Bajarom12 and 13 and the issues persist. Also have had a com.sec.android.keyguard failure with the lock screen but noticed nothing different. I've looked through the threads and haven't found anything any help or links would be appreciated
Thank you
I personally use rotation locker and manually rotate my screen. I can't help you with the auto brightness, but as a rule of thumb when having problems with roms it's always best to wipe dalvik cache and regular cache in recovery. If that does not work you need to make a nandriod backup to a microsd card and then wipe your data also in recovery and start fresh and see if you still have the problem (most likely you will not).

thank you for the quick reply :] I have done a dalvik cache, cache, system, data, every time and have installed deodex 4.4.2, new hyperdrive, and baja 14. I also flashed the n900vkk firmware md5 file in AP in Odin after doing the fresh installs to see if that would change anything and sometimes it will rotate the first few minutes after restart then sometimes just not at all. Thank you for the rotation locker recom. I downloaded it and am using it right now :good:

i have read many times about rotation issue being linked to freezing/removing some of what is considered bloat. there is an ongoing thread right here about it. hope that helps.

Sounds to me like you didn't wipe properly when flashing the ROM. You need to wipe system, data, cache, dalvik cache before flashing, is that what you did?
Usually when you update the same rom it's better to dirty flash no? i cant wipe all my data everytime i want to update the rom, though i might go back to stock, i
what's the best way to backup apps within the phone, and should i go deodex or Oden

My mistake, I didn't realise you were just updating the same ROM. Yes, usually you can just dirty flash, but the way something is implemented may have changed in the latest update, causing the issues you're having now. The solution is pretty simple though: backup your user apps with Titanium Backup, boot into TWRP and perform a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik cache), flash ROM + gapps, boot into ROM and set up your settings, restore your user apps with Titanium Backup.
Thanks a lot!
I had this same issue after the March security updates. Was given this and it fixed my issues completely! It manually runs the setup wizard. Not sure if it will fix it or not, but worth a shot.
