Rebooting every day... - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi guys.
I don´t really know what´s going on with my LEO
Since I got android on it, it goes off at least once per day suddenly...
I´ve changed ROM´s, I tried 5 different ones, (now I got chuckydoid), format the SD card (eaven I changed it for another one) but still doing it again and again.
What coul be the problem?

It could be the build you are using or some app you installed in Android

does it get hot before it reboots, are you using an overclocked kernel?

Temperature is normal, I have a non overclocked build.
It happens to me with every build, but I thinking that maybe it is an aplication I installed last days...Do you have any problems with "whats app"?

Keep in mind what type of apps you're install and using to find the culprit. Also, try to keep apps to a minimum to see if it helps.
Another thing. Please describe what you were doing when it shuts off. Were you online? Listening to music? What was your battery status?
The battery in Android is not fully calibrated. For example, mine will shut off at 10% almost all the time. When I power it back on, winMO will list the battery as >1%.

The other way round for me....
since I am using Android on my Leo I don't have to reboot any more!!
The other day I ran our of battery and it was weird to see WM again!!
I use FroyoStone Sense -just incase it helps-.

HD2 Overheating and rebooting

I would just like to know if you experts here at XDA know a solution to this. I am using the UnOff 3.0 ROM, I seriously have next to almost no apps installed, but I do have the last version of Android that Darkstone created (3.2 I believe), HSPL 3.0 and I have installed Hastarin to overclock my phone. My phone just keeps overheating and rebooting, I can't use my phone to use apps or watching videos.
I am willing to delete every file on my SD card and phone memory to fix this problem, but this is obviously my last option.
Please help me XDA, and I am very sorry if this similar situation has been solved here before, if so, please link me.
help me please
This is a known problem with the HD2 and I was suffering this during summer time when using it as navi in my car
When batt-temp rises over some 46 °C and in cahrging cradle lights start to blink orange-green and not charging any more, when temp rises further HD 2 freezes and/or reboots.
Gets worse when android runs
No solution to this yet.
It started on my HD2 (ex) last month. Came from nowhere, did not install anything or made any changes, no drops or whatsoever (in otterbox by the way) Shipped it back and got a new one (I assume refurbished)
I would recommend the same, I tried, flashing rom, clean install, (no install at all) even if you go back to factory settings, it reboots watching transformers.
Now i run wmo + android (darkstone ram edition- crazy fast) at the moment android draws 300 ma even with that no reboots at all.

i have highlighted what i think might be the problem in your quote above.
when overclocked, the device will generally shutdown/reboot when the CPU is mildly stressed if the CPU can't handle the voltage/frequency combination. running your CPU overclocked to the edge of stability CAN damage your hardware. usually, removing the overclocking makes the system stable again, unless some sub system has been damaged, perhaps due to prior overclocking.
see if any of the above might have happened with you. sounds plausible...
You do know what "overclocking" means, right OP?
same problem with my mates phone it was overheating and rebooting by itself.it was a hardware problem, because its under guarantee for 12 months he send it to tmobile in uk.and they send it to htc, they changed the hardware.the only reason i know they changed the hardware because his phone was unlocked and had a different i.m.e.i number.when the phone came back it was locked also.only hardware problems has 12 months guarantee.if your phone is less then a year try this, they fix it for nothing.its htc guaranteed.
make sure you flash back the original rom and get the hspl out.if they find out they wont fix it,and charge you money to send the phone back to you.
shame this is happened,i hope you sort it out a.s.a.p

[WP7] The two ways by which you can get awesome battery

So you did flash, and you are running WP7 on your HD2.
Now the battery dies quick?
Firstly, download this ROM and flash it: (google your ass to find out how its done, dont ask me )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941905
Its a custom ROM by football. Works amazing. Better than original ROM or the Moonlight (another custom rom) shiite you're planning on running.
After you have this ROM (or even if you dont have this ROM) if you take care of the follwing things, you will get HUGE battery life.
1. Fix the indicator by installing Registry editor, charge your battery to full and follow following steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933751
Thanks arkatis!
2. See that you have a new sd card, not the one which came with your hd2 orignially, buy a new one, any branded one should do, and rplace it with the older card and in your phone go to: settings> about phone> hard reset
These two steps will really show a massive imprvement in your battery life.
(google tom xap deployer, registry editor xap for wp7 hd2, chevron unlocker)
Are you able to list even one of the performance difference's between this rom and the Moonlight rom?
i think moonlight is good at battery back up .... more than 24 hours used now ...

well, for astarters, ml has a higher call drop rate, the voice quality over the call isnt all that great either, im on x.12 radio, and its not able to use the radio perfectly - this same problem is not there on footballs rom.
Another bug is while recieving calls, sometimes, when you click "answer" it automatically puts you on speaker phone! Its scary when you dont want others to know who just called. (happened twice on ml)
gps lock took nearly 5 minutes on ml, on footballs rom it snaps on in less than 30 seconds.
thats why i had to switch to hd2 1.00
Odd how I haven't had any of those problems. Anyway there is no difference between this rom and footballs rom. The tools to make any of those kind of fixes aren't out yet. The only kind of change you'll find is simple things like different keyboards or installed apps.

I did both, but there is no improvement in battery life. lasts less than 12h as before...
I will try the hard reset part when my new SD card arrives
Hold on there a sec, top be clear buying a new SD card might not work at all!!
If you dont have lots of cash or you dont have another use for the SD card please dont go spead money on something that may not work!
Not all cards, even within teh same brand and model will work!
and the reg fix doesnt improve battery life, it just lets you know what you have left, most issues with apparent high consumption are because a your phone isnt fully charged yet windows reports it so, apply reg fix once charged, restart and charge again you may been to repeat process, and to check use the HYC battery tool, try it pluged in and unplugged and you may notice a difference, if you do, restart and plug back in again to charge the remaining battery
I am using Moonlight atm..and with calls/sms and wifing i get utleast 1 and a half day..I use my tweak everytime i charge the phone and seems alright!
I am so obsessed with WP7 so i maybe get an official WP7 mobile..i am thinking of Omnia 7..Looks good!

I actually got the best battery life with the card that came with my HD2.... I've tried 8 different cards with wp7, too... most of them bought recently. Just buying a new card doesn't mean it will work with WP7. Your best chance of getting a good working card it to get a class 2 sandisk with part# ending in A11M.

I only seen this now! This just proves you haven't a clue what you are talking about!!
I'm using the Moonlight-Rom and I tried the last Radios (2.12, 2.15, 2.14)
And the winner is 2.14 - used the phone a lot (games used Wifi...) and after 12h I've still 25% left.
With the other Radios I had to charge it after 9houres because it ran out of battery without using it that much only some SMS!

Hey,
at least we could talk in german, but the others should be able to understand our conversation
I also tried many Radio Roms and my fav is 2.12, bu to be honest I only tried 2.10 2.12 and 2.15.
Do you really think, that the 2.14 is better than the 2.12?
Ja dann machen wir das in deutsch... ;-)
Yes The first Rom I tried was 2.15 (it was already installed - previous rom)
Then I read that 2.12 is working very good and because my phone needs to be charged after less than half a day (using 2.15) I tried 2.12 - but I still had the same problem.
Thats why I decided to use a other Radio! And it seems to work!
Maybe it depends on the phones too?
I dont't know - Try and Error....
I too don't think the registry battery fix works. First time I ever installed WM7 ROM was football's and never changed it. Tried the battery fix a few times with no luck.
Had Radio 2.15 and downgraded to 2.12 with no luck. I see some have improvement with 2.14.
I took out my SIM card yesterday to try if SD card "helps" in battery drain. Left wifi on and played with internet for a bit. This morning it had like 90%+ battery left in it. So it's not the SD card. IMO Radio is the major culprit for the battery drain.
I'll try 2.14 tonight.

That is what I am feeling too! In an other forum I read, that it could be helpful to release the battery for 60s before charging it. But I don't want to do this every time I charge my phone

[Q] Please Help..I am at my wits end..

I have an HD2(of course)...i have tried many many roms but am stuck with the same issue..I have random freezing issues..i have tried different radios, different classes of sd cards..tried adjusting the vm heap. but to no avail..i am currently using frankenstine rom it seems to be the smoothest but i still have freezing issues..when this occurs i can only pull the battery to reset it and sometimes when i do this i must pull battery 3-5 times to get it past the magloader screen.
i have asked this question in many of the rom threads that i have used but have never gotten a clear and definite fix..can someone enlighten me on how to cure this issue it is really becoming quite frustrating.. thanks in advance to anyone..
When do you have these freezing issues?
When you're watching a web video? Playing a game and listening to music at the same time?
If so, it's cuz you've run out of ram, so your phone will lagg to death. So get a task manager to close those apps.
If not Iunno what your problem is.
Note: Try not to pull out your battery, instead use the soft reset button. If you keep pulling out your battery, you'll mess up the pins.

it doesnt seem to be specific on when it freezes..but usually when only using 1 program at a time..i do use task manager.i recently installed words with friends and almost every time i try to open it, it will freeze.

yes the last time i flashed i used task29..someone once told me it was my radio..which ive tried to downgrade to an earlier version but that didnt help either..
I think it's ram. Reason being, if it is from opening an app, it may be the app is using too much memory for it to handle, eg. mega jump is one
Never tried words before though, but it doesn't sound like something that uses a lot of memory but Iunno.
Do you use desire hd or z builds? Those leave very little ram left.

ok i rewiped, reflashed, task29'd it last night and thought everything was a-ok until a few minutes ago when yet again it froze. i cant wait till tmobile comes out with an htc phone with the same screen size as the hd2 but native android cuz ill be all over it..this crap gets old quick..i cant believe i am the only one with this unfixable issue.
did you also fully refresh you sd card? not much point task29'ing, reinstalling android and starting over if your sd card is still full of cache/droid system folders/EXT/Dalvik and what not.
that being said, if you have had the phone since way back last year, a good proportion of the early ones had freezing problems, regardless of rom.radio, and a quick warranty swap was usually the answer.

i did use the recommended panasonic formatter..and also the cmw format, dalvik and cache wipe...
your other comment kinda makes sense..i have had this since i think February of last year.
so after speaking with tmobile, and actually reflashing windows 6.5 and having it freeze on me twice and today it got stuck in a reboot loop, I am getting a new HD2..i sure hope this one does not freeze as much as my current model..if tmobile would come out with an android phone with this big of a screen i would switch.

[Q] Cyanogen mod 7 HD2 ran out of battery....

Hey Guys,
So flashed my phone with the cyanogen mod 7 2.4.1 and has been working great.
Yesterday arvo it ran out of battery and shut down, however it has enough battery that it can boot, but seems to get stuck at the little android man stage.
Ive tried alot of methods mentioned in a wp7 thread, however none have helped.
Is there anyway im going to be able to boot into my old rom or is it a matter of reflashing?
Its weird, cause it doesnt run out and then shut down, it just sits at the little android man...
Any help would be appreciated .
Cheers
Alex
So the battery is all good. It will just stay on the android booting stage, and not run out of battery, or reboot. Well sounds like you data got corrupted so you might need to reflash.
ugghh, corrupted just because it ran out of battery?
sigh
Well, im going to try one last thing- leaving it charge on tri colour screen for a few hours and then try booting. If that doesnt work ill reflash
note to self- set titanium backup up to do routine backups!!
Just reflash it. It only takes a couple of minutes, especially if you've got a nandroid backup. Running the battery down shouldn't corrupt the image. I've run mine down to 0 a few times without this happening.
but i cant reflash without losing all my msgs etc. can i?
thats the only reason im trying to save it.

CyanogenMod battery drain
Hi all,
has someone noticed that CyanogenMod 7 on HD2 drains battery ?!
Someone can tell me how to fix it ?!
Thanks.
actually cyanogen mod 7 drains my battery way more slowly than any deshd build i have tried before CM7. One charge lasts for like two days or so. All deshd builds usually had a battery runtime of less than a day for me.

Using SetCpu, and setting up profiles has helped for me. Also, I noticed that the first couple of days, I had high battery drain, but once everything settled, the battery drains settled. I also use system panel which will tell you what apps are eating up the most power. If I notice that an app is hogging resources, then I'll uninstall, especially is it's something that I rarely use or don't need.
Ok for me. I simply restart my sd gingerbread androïd. And my android consums only 6mA in sleeping mode.
Hope it helps

Battery drains like hell.
Hi Guys, my HD2 on CyenogenMod7 Gingerbread 2.3.3 drains like hell. I mean if I charged to 100% at 8am and its already 50% by 12pm. Half in 4 hours. I'm already dead by 4pm or 5 pm max with regular usage. Any suggessions? Please help...
P.S. Cyenogen ROCKS !!! Android ROCKS !!! and HD2 HELL ROCKS !!!

HD2 HUGE BATTERY DRAIN 1% every 1 minute

Hi my hd2 is on a stock windows mobile rom and has a huge battery drain, every 1 minute or so i lose 1% of my battery and even on standby its the same.
Please can anyone help!!!! I have just flashed a stock rom from sd and have nothing on it and it still does it!
did you flash another radio rom? battery performance has a lot to do with it.
formatting your sd card could also help.
I've tried formatting my sd card and have tried flashing many radio roms right now im on the latest one (2.15...) and still it does it.
well the latest doesn't mean that it's the best for you. it depends on your carrier and area. but this wouldn't result in such a high battery drain.
sorry i can't help you then. i would try to make a freash install with task 29 and everything and if it's still not better try another battery.
Ive tried everything..no one knows anything about it
Thanks anyways
Would appreciate if anyone else has this problem too?
Sounds more like your battery is on the way out. Do you have another you could test?
Yupp, i have 3 standard htc batterys and 2 of them are brand new and still it happens
You did not say how long you have had the HD2, whether this problem has occurred from the beginning, or had just recently started. If it's been that way from the time you got it, it needs to go back to the vendor/seller for replacement. If it has suddenly started, what has changed? Other recent threads here note that a change in GMail was causing problems with high CPU levels and fast battery drain. I believe you said in one response that two of your three batteries have this problem. I assume that one of the batteries does not. If so, it sounds like bad batteries.
Sorry i meant to say that every battery that i try, it still has the problem. And also i brought this phone (used) with no problems and i put android on it, one day it turned extremely hot whilst i put it on charge, then what used to happen was whenever i left my phone on standby (screen off) my phone would switch off. But then i changed my charger cable and that problem was fixed but now i have this problem.
In that case could be the cable not supplying enough charge to the battery, or the phone reading battery stats incorrectly. Other than that I'm at a loss.
Tried everything :/
Thanks anyways I guess its just time for the bin :/

Are you using Gmail? There have been a lot of reports about overheating and battery drain from gmail accounts. Evidently there was some change in the way Google handles their accounts.
Nope, not using gmail
theres nothing on my rom as i just flashed it.
if you flashed it new and the problems started at this point you can try to wipe the battery stats in cwm. don't really now what exactly that does but it's worth a try.

Hi, did you try the following?
Switch off the phone completely and then remove the battery for approx. 15 to 20 seconds. Then put it in again and start the phone.
When I used this procedure the battery drain was normal again.
BR rainer
tried that still no luck :/
Take out the sim AND sd card. Maybe one of them is going bad.
