[Q] Some help with low sound!! - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Guys a simple question! (i've searched a lot but didnt find an answer!)
I am using FROYOSTONE V1 daily for over a week now. Tried other builds too, but this is perfect.
Only two issues here! Kinda low volume (system and in call-specially the second!-) and battery life.. Battery life problem dissapeared now, my only trick was using non-live wallpaper, using task manager for killing apps, and funally the best of them..an overclock app! (which i used for under clock) Found in the market.I set the cpu to 485mhz max and auto to 284 when screen off!Sometimes it auto adjust it in the middle, 380something speed!! No lags at or glitches at all!!!
AND NOW I GET EXACTLY THE SAME BATTERY LIFE AS WITH WINMO!! A full day, with heavy usage..Plus 10-15 min to the charger give it an extra 20-30% charge capable of holding 2 hours more..
Only the sound problem needs to be corrected and i will have a perfect build of android with everything i need to work beeing far better than ok!
Cotulla released a zimage that suposed to correct the low sound issue..I tried to use it, but adroid would not boot..
Do you know WHICH EXACTLY ZIMAGE will work with froystone's V1 and correct the low sound issue??
Cause the zimage-latest wont work either.(if i owerwrite then adroid does not boot)
Is there something more i need to do? I dont want to change build,i like sense and all my apps and customizations will be lost..
Thank you in advance!!

I have the low sound issue as well. One of the more clever forum members around here told me to hit the speaker button on, off, on again and off again. (or just leave it on the second time if you want speaker).
This raises the volume considerably.... Although you have to do it each call XD

But with updated zImage its fixed by default!
But i cant update for a reason.Thats why i am asking if i have to use a certain file of zImage that fits with V1 froystone! (or if its not just replacing the zImage file, what more??)

noticed same issue here. It's big difference comparing it to winmo where incall volume is very high and clear. other than this android works great (froyo build).
And one more issue with end key, it doesn't end the call if you press it, it just turns off the screen.

Don't forget we need to find a unlocking metod.
I have my still locked because if I unlock by code. There no more interest in ulocking..
But about other bugs I don't know realy. My TG01 work purfect may be has some little bug who we can solve with time. General I think is just a dizain of the software.

if you are looking phone sim unlocked then check out TG01 forum on modaco for details. £10 to unlock.
if you are waiting for sim unlocking software then i think you are in for a long wait!!
another bug
can we have an accurate battery life indicator,
odd that you can restart device and get extra 10% battery life. which is quite fun when the rom locks you out at 20% battery life on wifi
also quite odd that the 20% battery lock suspends wifi/camera, BUT not music and videos. i would have thought having the screen on with backlight video on, and speaker running would drain battery more. what idiot thought of that!!
for
2 and 3 try srswow 3 cab over at modaco
4. makes me want to scream
5. you just have to double tap screen to activate screen a little message comes up and tells you (but you would have phone on your ear when message comes up) stupid toshiba.
6. not that i know of i just edit them in mp3 prog and put them in tone folder
again annoying but its that or there stupid tones
8. hopefully the cooked rom happens
mine are
10. phone randomly turning of
11. camera takes ages to start
12. "forgets" wep key all the time
i wont be getting a toshiba again il get the eventual hd3 when contract runs out in 1.6 years.

Are you lookign for bugs that we all have? Or just wanting to compare people's experiences?
1 - totally - if nothing else can be fixed... fix this
2 & 3 - 'fixed' by WOW SRS HD ?? (certainly my volumes are acceptable, i did change somethign in the reg tho...)
4 - yeah & how does the BT stay on past the 20% (if it was already in operation) but the wifi doesn't
5 - this really should be turn off-able.. prob a coincidence, but when the screen switches off the call qual seems to drop..
6 - never tried this
7 - nor this (i use g maps for on the fly navigation)
8 - mine's ok....
9 - never had this... had some probs coming off standby b4 i installed SRS HD properly..
10 - 2 seconds for me - is that slow??
11 - not had this on any of the 3 wlan i connect too..
12 - never used video
13 - totally my work phone is hd2 & the camera on that is amazing, TG camera is embrassing
can i add
14 - i want to reject a call with sms msg
15 - i want to be rid all the orange ****e that the phone is stuck with, orange plus & boot up screen etc
16 - i want a sys tray icon for everything, don't share 2 'G' symbols between GPS/2G/3G/HSDPA/GPRS etc
17 - strange bug, my file browser (ie change today screen click "browse" NOT file explorer) can't see my mem card
18 - win logo some times displayed on lock screen, sometimes not - tapping it does nothing !!
i'm sure i can think of more...
cheers

I had many of them when I was trying HTC sense (2.1 or 2.5), now with the default WM6.5 screen I do not get any more random reboots.
i use spb mobile shell...
buggin issue
I've noticed my tg01 is so much more stable since I turned of the auto orientation, it used to freeze 3 to 5 times a day, now I hav'nt had to soft reset it for weeks.
I am looking forward to see what development the XDA people can do to get this amazing piece of hardware running smooth, fast & sweet.
Hi
Your probleme at point 10 (phone randomly turning of) it's caused by SRS_WOW( this is still not a stable and compatible verzion for our TG01) . You must uninstall it and no more randomly turning off happends. I had that probleme too.
sorry but i don't have srs_wow and my tg01 (all of them actualy : waranty returns) had this shut down/reboot problems regardless the os (i.e wm6.1 or wm6.5) and regardless softwares installed on it.
Must say I had a lot of problems with SRS WOW being installed or which I lead to believe was the problem. My phone would restart itself every so often but it also didn't like going to sleep it just crashed and stayed in that state until you soft reset it.
I did a hard reset and installed the software that I found useful to myself, didn't install anything like the graphic driver update or SRS WOW and its working flawlessly apart from the call quality issues.
In regards to the above post if you've had a few tg01's and they are all randomly reseting its not a hardware fault with the phone, I'm sure it'll be software which is causing these problems.
I think the first and foremost problem that'll hopefully be fixed by the rom devs is the call quality issues since after all that's why people have a phone, to make phone calls.
Finger Keyboard from xda: after some time keyboard doesnt pop up (especially if phone was standby for a while), switching to other keyboard not possible -> soft reset
Screen Bug: unlock screen in landscape mode bugs, after sliding nothing happens, only if i hit the area where ok button would be..
->not that bad cause i use S2u2
Standby Bug: pressing button to switch on again, screen only blinks for short time..need several tries to get the screen permanently on,to slide..
storage bug: using some programs except the ram of tg01 bugging, than hitting standby button short-- whoops phone goes off and restarts..
bugmode #2: if i take battery out because of extreme bugging after soft reset, sometimes restarts and then there is only a text saying "ok", i can't touch and need to restart again..
i noticed a bug with toshibas keyboard
turning caps look on the delete button doesnt work!!
maybe a hard reset might fix this, but im not willing to reset again
has cook got a test device or does he not want to unlock it now!
Too much bug for this phone :
- Poor memory management, the unit must be reset periodically to free memory or use cleanram utility.
- The device have many difficulties to switch the band from HPDSA to GSM when network is poor. I must regulary change the band manually to keep data use.
- Bad management of motion sensor and light sensor.
- Call volume is sometimes low my contact don't heard me
Some improvement would be apreciated
voluntary e
yeah low cal volume a pain.just as well we have sms texts

Background noice from mic on calls

In calls, the person in the other end complain about extreme background noice. You can leave the HD2 on the table - go to the other end of the room and gently tap the wall.. On the other end of the call, this sounds like you're knocking ON the phone - the mic amplification is that loud..
I've been searching the forums for days no without any luck.. No mather what I do, I don't get this fixed. I've been trying combining different WinMo ROMs, Android versjons, rootfs versions and kernels but with no luck.. Tried almost all radio's out there.. both TMOUS and non-TMOUS versions.
This is an EU version HD2 and - I'm using the operator Netcom in Norway if that matters.
Any, any tips/hints what-so-ever are welcome.
I have the same rom/radio as you. In my case, when talking to someone on the other side they can ear their own voice like like an ecko.
It's not just this radio (radio in signature) - there are problems with all radios I've tried...
I've experienced the same behaviour with my setup (see sig) The caller on the other end of the line hears a lot of background noise...
I would like to know what is causing this, as different radio's don't make a difference. Does anyone have a clue?
Actually the sound driver used in kernel is not finished. Developers know about the problems, but other things need to be fixed first!
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I actually disagree.
This is the ONLY reason I'm not using Android as my default OS. I actually wouldn't mind so much if there was excessive background noise on my end, but I can't subject other callers to that.
Tried every Radio since 2.08 and about 15 different ROMS but nothing works.
I hope that this is considered a priority issue and gets resolved asap.
Massive thanks to all the devs working on this, and Android in general. Really appreciate all the hard work guys.
This is what i am talking aboot
Guys,
So close so close... our wait is finally being rewarded...
got round the camcorder issue (downloaded anCorder from Android Market)
and not being able to set alarms (downloaded Alarm Clock V2 from Android market)
Everything else seems fine apart from the most important issue mentioned above (the background loud noise) and of course, the fact that it is launched from WM...
*Awaits impatiently*
PS_ If you install a battery monitor (for percentage) from market (cant remember which one) and everytime you restart the phone says your battery is empty even though its full, then just uninstall that other little program before the screens blanks and locks. Was being impossible for me to come out from sleep.
THANK YOU A THOUSAND TIMES DEVS
I wasn't aware that the sound drivers need further development as a number of users post they have no problems. Well, then i will wait patiently. It could not be long as development is amazing till now, thanks devs!
Background noise fix should be highest priority for the dev till now, as it will make our HD2 next to perfect. When i make a call, the other end sometimes asks me if i'm frying some food hix,

[Q] Best Kernel ?

Whilst a full Android Build has some flavours thus making it taste-dependent, kernels are the core component of each meal here - and therefore I think it is a valid question - which is the best kernel so far.
There are several - each one with a problem
1. some freeze due to gsensor
2. some work with RMNET, some with PPP only
3. some have premature flash on camera
4. some have louder sound volumes
5. some have tethering
6. some cause random data disconnection ..
But it seems that the problems are different. It seems that if the best of all kernels is collected into one - then there will be a perfect kernel.
I have tried several but lost count and trace of which kernel exhibit which problems.
Important for me are 1, 4 and 6 to be working. The rest are bonuses. Have you tried a kernel that meets this?
If not - could you describe your kernel - what is working and what is not - taken from personal experience !
Hello,
I tried the froyo 2.2.
It freezes when I am calling someone (usually I can't do missed call because the OS freezes and I can't end the call before my friend opens on me the phone and answers :S)
This is the most annoying.
Also sometimes It looses the touch. Only buttons work

Yes that seems like a G-sensor problem - if you use GScript Lite and the two little scripts to kill the gsensor - freezes will go away. But you will loose the gsensor

That's a general issue of actual kernel-developement. I think I have tried almost every kernel since the past weeks.
Whatever kernel you are using you always have one ore more issues.
The actual evo-kernel gereration resolved touchscreen freezes, has tethering, louder volumes but only works with ppp. There are (new) problems with camera (flash), music stuttering and random data disconnections.
The older desire-based kernels do not have random data disconnections (especially on rmnet), camera works imho better (but not perfect), but have random touchscreen freezes (if gsensor is turned on), no tethering and are more quiet in using the phone.
You see that there is always a compromise you have to face.
AFAIK the kernel developers have their focus on developing an EVO-based kernel and they are working hard to resolve the issues. The desire-based kernels don't have a great future because there seem to be general issues that cannot be resolved.
Not to forget the new Desire HD. I cannot estimate, what potential there is for using it on HD2.
IMHO it will take another 3-6 weeks to resolve the greates issues with EVO-based kernels. Maybe earlier...
Indeed!
Yes, the EVO kernels fix some problems probably because they are not very mature yet. GSensor still not working properly, and although freezes have gone, an annoying lag to wakeup is still there (not often - but still - noticeable)
I tried mattc 1.8 .. which is based on EVO, and although I liked the nice strength of the sound volume, it would drop data from time to time. It is great when it is working, but you can't see if it is working, unless you open something that needs data, because the indicator always stays - as if all is working well. And that of course means - all your background sync will fail from time to time.
I reverted back to mattc 1.7 RMNET which has both very fast and very stable data connection. I had to disable the GSensor - to get rid of the screen freezes.
Anyway - lets support the developers - they are doing a great job! I am sure that not before long, we will all have very stable Androids on our phones, and then we will be creating yet another partition on our SD cards to accommodate the new ports of WP7. On a completely different topic - the new HD7 - apart from having slightly more RAM - has the same hardware specs as our HD2. It seems that HD2 will keep its greatness for a bit longer And yet, its price is dropping on ebay, as it is now almost a year old model.

[Q] A little help please?

Ok so first of all I have searched for these problems and cannot seem to find anything that will fix them for me.
I am currently using darkstones's SuperRAM Froyo v1.5 and I'm loving it. However there are a few little niggles that I am hoping someone can help me clear up. They are as follows:
1. Battery drain -every possible option that will save battery has been set but still the battery will not last 12hours, with moderate usage! Is there something I can do to, perhaps see me through a day without needing to charge?
2. Poor audio quality - when playing music through the speakers it sounds awful, any sort of bass on the track results in it sounding distorted and crackely. Is there a fix available?
3. Lock screen controls - is there any way I can get lock screen controls for my music?
Other than these couple of things I would say that darkstone has cracked it with his build. I am no expert, I have recently just come across to the HD2 from another HTC Andriod build but in comparison this version of Andriod is so much better.
Thanks in advance.
Luke
Formatting or using another sd card may solve problems 1 & 2, can't promise though. Do you have these problems with other builds too?
About 3: Sense and Cyanogenmod based builds have decent lockscreen controls.
Many thanks for the quick reply Stephen.
I have tried the format route and it has not worked. The battery I have no idea about, but my phone cut out it now due to no battery however my gauge was advising me I had 20% remaining.
The sound I'm thinking the levels were set to high during the build and so may just be a bug. If I use at reduced volume its fine but as soon as I turn it up it becomes distorted, same for ringtones and call audio is somewhat tinny.
Can you recommend a decent Sense build?
Cheers

Cyanogen battery drain HELP !!

Hello. I used cyanogen mod in the past on my desire hd, then switched to rcmixhd, then back to cyanogen (newer release). I noticed first of all that the battery lasts really shorter time. I don't know why, but in the night it goes from 60 to 15% without using anything (no 3g, no wifi, no applications, no alarm), i just leave the telephone on. It hasn't happened to me before.
I flashed a new radio, I will see what happens, but can the radio make a difference in the battery related problem?
Apart from this, i am happy with cyanogen.
One rom related question: is it possible to change the incoming call layout? I am very used to the possibility of 'SILENTING' the call. Let's say someone calls, I want to have the possibility to make the phone NOT ring while still NOT refusing the call. On this rom I only have 2 buttons: accept and decline. No 'silent ringtone' available while the phone rings, which is different to refusing the call. I just want to keep the incoming call without the ringtone, after the call starts...i think you understand what i mean, it is a common function in every rom I had.
And also: I tried the game 'backstab HD'. It runs really with poor framerate. Is it normal? It has good graphics ok, but I don't think it's normal for a game built for phones to go that slow. Modern combat goes very smooth...even reckless racing HD now goes smoother than before. Backstab is almost unplayable. I think I could do something with chainfire 3d ?

Volume down should silence the ring/vibrate.
tonight battery went from 70% to 2% (from 3.30 a.m. to 10 a.m.). I find it impossible to use the phone like this.
How can I fix this battery problem? Last time I used cyanogen the battery could last up to 3 days with normal use. With the time the ROM should get better, not worse....I am searching for a solution, many people have this problem and no one knows how to fix it.

Hi !
Check out the radio threads, and see the setups from the other guys.
I had heavy battery drain with different radios. The last radio from cyanogen
( running alienmind v1.99 ) works great now.
Just need to test everything and need to find the best setup for you
Now, one of better think is to make a full charge of your battery, device turned off.
when you reboot your device(at 100%), go in CWM=>advanced=>clean/wipe battery stat.
Do it two or three time and see...
if no result you can instal Battery History for GB
Look if something drain anormaly your battery.
If no result, change ROM
If no result, change your dead battery.
And read this guide
i did the reset of the battery stats today, things may be better. I will also flash another radio to try everything. If not, I really don't know, i may have to change rom although i was happy with cyanogen the first time.
Just backup your old rom and flash (wipe) the newest from cyanogen... and see yourself.
If the battery drain is still there ( i hope not )
I had only problems with cyanogen when i customized it ( other radios, kernels and widgets )
so which radio is the best for the latest cm7? I have the Telus version if that makes a difference. thx
Yeah I was getting pretty severe battery drains too, but then I updated my radio and RIL and now it's significantly better. Here is a guide to update your radio:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877295&highlight=radio
After that I updated my RIL using CWM. Just go to Download ROM -> gtg465x -> RIL Flasher.
I'm currently using Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 with AlienMinds CM 7.1 v 1.9.9 with great success. Great battery life and smooth operation.
