Verizon looks like they're up to their old ways
the Facinate has
Bing Maps (no google search widget)
No Google Maps Navigation (VZ Navigator)
Less ram than the other Galaxy S phones? (major WTF)
512 of ROM.....
The Vibrant has the Facinate destroyed in about any way imaginable......Hope Verizon hasn't gone and required them to lock the bootloader as well

Not too surprising, VZW has gone pretty much all Motorola these days, the Fascinate is more of a "Me too" phone than anything else
Wow, very lame on vzw's part. It just seems they're asking for trouble by crippling an Android phone in this way. The competitor is the iphone, shouldn't all Android phones put their strongest foot forward?

they're doing what will line their pocket the best, in spite of the customers best interests
i ditched verizon last week for the increased 3g speeds. went from .8-1mbps on verizon to close to 5mbps on tmobile. the vibrant blows my droid away with how fast it is. im happy with my choice. i also noticed the fascinate only has 2gb of internal memory compared to 16gb for the vibrant.

Verizon here the tower was always overloaded. I'd get 1 mbps during the night, but at day, I'd drop to 150 kbps...mainly because my home shares the same tower as Walmart's corporate office
TMobile, we have HSPA+ here, I never drop below about 2 mbps during the day, and at night have gotten over 4 mbps
yeah, it sucks a bit when I travel they don't have the coverage that Verizon did...but really, who cares? I spend 99.999% of my time within a 10 mile radius of my house and the coverage is superb.
Verizon is playing it smart, business-wise.
They have the most subscribers while still having the highest prices... it makes sense that they'd chimp on phone specs and features.
When you are #1, you can afford to abuse your customers a little bit... especially if the majority of them are locked into 2-year contracts.
No one stays on top forever. They were the first out of the gate with high end android phones, but even AT&T and Sprint are getting decent handsets now. I don't see them maintaining their higher pricing model for more than a year. They are $30-$50 more per month than Sprint & T-mobile. That adds up over time!
This things barely recognizable as an Android phone

basically your average non-power user won't be able to do it without great difficulty (ie, they probably won't do it).
The fact the system's tied to VZ navigator also sucks, so any address you click to, or "navigate to" in browser, contacts, etc, will all pop up VZ
Well he said it's a pain, but didn't describe the process. I'm assuming it's the standard "clear defaults" process you use with any replacement app though, which isn't exactly a pain unless you're an iPhone user.
At any rate, I wouldn't get too hung up on the default navigation app considering the current state of the GPS and compass in the Galaxy S firmware. Bing definitely sucks though.

It looks like a giant candybar! I have nothing against the Evo 4G nor the HD2 which I previously owned (I took it back! Found the recipt DJ!) but the enormous screens aren't for me. They just feel like their gonna snap with their extreme thiness, not to mention the battery life was bad on my hd2 due to a 1230 mah. But, the Evo and HD2 are fine, this thing is rediculous. It's longer than the rest and what's up with the mirrored finish around the screen? If you wanna make a 4.4 inch look bigger on a phone your insane!

And I'd get it. And of course a great phone MUST come with Android. Anything else would be crap.

Yea, no decently spec'd Android phone in a while that's GSM. I mean the Galaxy s thingamajig (I don't know what it's called) is the most advanced gsm we have right now, but unfortunately no HTC's since the desire! Where are you GSM devices with really good hardware and awesomeness eminating from you!
EDIT: ATT is getting a major advanced (im being sarcastic) Android HTC phone called the Aria!!!! Yay 2.8 inch screen with a 600 mhz processor!

Sometimes I like to express emotions with a pic borrowed from the internet.
Regarding the Droid X:
I don't think the EVO is too big, but it's pushing it. This thing is even bigger and the backwards chin would irritate the buhjezus out of me. That thing looks more like a multimedia device that includes a phone.
Of course I'm biased after several years of good service but I'm extremely pleased with Sprin't lineup lately. Not much to choose from but what they have is up there with the best of em, at least compared to what's available in the US

My guess is that the only reason they offer ANY android phones is because apple lets them in order to disguise their plans for world domination, and if they can get a few android people on board then they are at least a little closer to the iPhone and may one day opt for an iPhone when upgrade time rolls around.
AT&T offering android is like a consolation prize... it's more symbolic than anything.
will it have a front facing camera ?
I personally enjoy oversized screens, so I think the Droid X will be my next phone. I have a question, though -- will the phone have a decent modding community around it in the way that the EVO does? I realize that it's a difficult question to answer right now, but I'm very excited about getting a new phone (and rooting it).

Also, let me take the opportunity to talk about video calling. If you use a cell phone in public and you don't care that other people are extremely annoyed at hearing you talk on your phone, get ready for my fist. Just regular calls around me annoy me, video calls are going to enrage me. Try not to be a douche and take your calls in private, please.

HAHAHA, too funny. I would really hope that people have enough sense to use vidoe calling when and where it's intended (ie. at home, in the office. NOT on the subway, in a restaurant, etc..)
Alas I am sure there will be plenty of people that just can't stand for other people to see them on a regular old voice call when they could be seeing them on a video call on their awesome new phone.
Please, please, please if you end up feeding someone a knuckle sandwich for being on a video call in public have a friend catch it on video for our viewing pleasure

Hardware, like most Samsung products, is usually pretty immaculate - can't complain about that. TouchWhiz UI is likely garbage as with most Samsung products software.
So with Root and a competent developer who could get AOSP working - Rockin.

Think this will be my next phone, i'm tired of waiting for HTC to put out a killer android phone that has a slide out keyboard. I have had bad experiences with samsung phones in the past (they were before smart phones even existed) but i'm willing to give them one more shot with this phone.
I've never had a Sammy phone. I had a couple Sony Ericsson's and then the HTC Wizard came out, been with HTC ever since. The hard qwerty is what drew me to HTC, I had no idea places like xda existed. It's been over a year since HTC has made a keyboard phone and the HTC Vision has one but I think it's only going to Tmous and I can't do that because they dont have a single 3G tower in Arkansas... I'm presently on AT$T because when I first got a cellular in 2003 Cingular was the best carrier in the state and I'm a creature of habit so I've stuck with them. But, they suck about picking up phones I like, the iPhone has hamstrung their network, and they're handing out free femtocells but when I called about that they basically told me to fu*k off. My two complaints about my TP2 are slowness and no headphone jack. Epic 4G/Galaxy S Pro ameliorates both of those to a t...
So, how do you people like Sprint? They'd save me money and I like the new phone every year... Also, what's the build quality like on sammies? Last question is are they as easy to take apart/repair as HTC phones are?
I have to say that every samsung phone I, or anyone I know has owned, holds up like a tank. They drop them, throw them and step on them and they are fine. I wouldn't be that rough, but its nice to see.
Really? I was a little worried about build quality since they seem to use a lot of plastic and little if any metal. I'd love for Epic's slider to be as firm as the Droid's but wasn't expecting much.
Well, their initial quality is what it is. But they stay in that condition with very good resilliance in my, and my friend's, experience.
I have a sammy dumbphone, the a727, and it has amazing build quality. Soft touch plastic, super thin and light, great battery life.
Samsung can make a good phone if they put their minds to it. The epic seems like the best galaxy phone, mostly because of that soft touch back. Getting the soft touch battery cover for my Pre made it feel five times better, much more solid and durable than the crappy glossy bendy plastic that is default on the pre(and the other galaxy variants).

While waiting in line with the kool-aid drinkers this evening at Best Buy I spotted a girl sitting down with her thinkpad and EVO wifi tethering! Which means she must of rooted her EVO. Thats a requirement for my next GF I think, must have rooted android device. Also, the guy directly in front of me had an EVO, and I noticed 2 other people in line with them as well. Looks like you can make about $150-400 above the purchase price at this time, based on closed ebay sales. I'm shooting for $250 profit a unit.. only picked up 2. $500 isn't bad for 45 minutes in line. Still debating on keeping one.. I bought an Android tablet but found it redundant since my EVO can already do everything the tablet can. Having an iPad 2 W-Fi I could 4G tether and have the best of both O/S's. Im as big of Android fan as anyone, but I dont think you are going to find too many people right now saying the Android tablets are better then iPad 2. Maybe from a hardware standpoint...sure.. but not from a usability standpoint. The more I think about it, if you are going to have 1 of each device I think Android phone + apple tablet is a good choice. Based on all the EVO's I saw in line, I'm not the only one thinking this.

I was wondering why do all the evo owners that's bashing the nexus s as a inferior phone are the same ones making threads about being on their 4th evo replacement? I'm a evo owner by the way and I'm on my launch one, no problem.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
A lot of people apparently hate samsung for phone quality and lack of updates. I have an Evo, and I've had a samsung phone before [not a smart phone], but it never did me wrong. And I have my 32" Samsung LED tv...beautiful. I have nothing against them, personally.
People can't live without conflict and trying to aggravate each other.
I owned a Samsung Epic and an Evo. I'm posting this from my Evo because the Samsung just wouldn't work after the froyo update. Samsung's support is worthless imo. My wife and sister in law both have Samsung Intercept's and their about to get different models of phones because those phones are worthless and the Sprint rep I've been talking to knows it so...
As for the new phone, maybe they fixed the many issues plaguing their other phones but my old Epic's (yes, I tried 4 different ones...) Gps could only get a lock down to 6 meters vs the Evo's 1 meter, and the bluetooth stack on froyo just sucked. Sounds would stop playing, I missed lots of calls... Until they prove themselves again that they can make a product and support it, they won't see a dime of my money.

Some such as myself want to always move onto bigger and better things and Samsung have the potential to be that and do that as that's what they're always selling (See Epic 4g) and they always come up short. The Instinct was dubbed the original iphone killer [email protected], Samsung Epic was supposed to be better than the Evo and it's still crippled with GPS issues and now this phone even with it's supposed better screen still has issues with the color white (with the blue tint) and this day and age releasing a phone with not even a micro SD slot for expandable memory. Samsung is a company that pushes you to almost want to love them, then gives you reasons to LOATHE them. And I mean really loathe them.

Going from an evo to a nexus s is like going from a BMW to Mercedes; your BMW(evo) is the complete package and still up to date yet you want the Mercedes (nexus) because your BMW has a little extra mileage on it. The nexus s isn't worth leaving the evo why waste your upgrade on a phone that's barely superior. I'm not bashing it I'm just saying who cares about the "pure google experience" that single core processor will be out of date by the end of 2011. I'm not saying the evo 3D will be the best but I wont waste my upgrade on that plastic single core Samsung phone lol.

man im from the US, ive always loved how buying phones from overseas gave me the edge on everyone else 6 months before anyone else here. but this year dang.. sprint really stepped it up. bigger screen without going bigger phone, they gave it a better battery, 4G, and the biggest thing, is they gave it an LED notification light.. sighhh
honestly i dont know why samsung wants to make their flagship as skinny and light as possible.. actually i do know why.. to beat the iphone.. yeah alright, youve proved you can make a phone so skinny and smooth that it literally sides out of your pocket when you sit down.. i would much rather have a wider phone, and it have a 3000mah battery in it.. a thicker phone would be more comfortable to hold anyway.
the only down side to having the sprint version is that big "sprint" logo on the front.. oh wait, they didnt put one on there.. -__- ugh
check out this side by side pic. the AT&T version is the same build as ours, so use it as a reference.

To be honest, who gives a ****?

um, and now they have the note overseas, which ****s all over the epic touch 4g. Oh and btw, all that stuff you mentioned, like 4g (which the AT&T version has as well) bigger screen, and LED notification, DIDNT come with a bigger cpu. So all that means is the epic touch has more things beating down the cpu than we have on the i777/i9100. Im not jealous, if i wanted a notification LED i woulda gotten a HTC, and if i wanted a bigger screen i woulda got a note, which has all of the **** you mentioned plus more, but a bigger cpu to make up for the difference.
I think this is a rant over the international SGS2? keeping in mind that all the the carrier versions of this phone should be an improvement from the original international SGS2 since they were released later? Sprint is CDMA anways, so fail.
"Bigger screen but not a bigger phone"
Who told you that??? Do your homework. Fail! Worse CPU! Fail! Cdma! Fail! Updates? Fail!... Really nothing to be jealous about.

Regarding battery, there are a few options for am extended battery so that's a non issue, you're welcome to trade size for battery life (and without a huge screen eating it). The 2000mah just makes the back flat, awesome. The screen is already a great size for me. Led=bln. And let me know how many months behind the sprint version is for getting updates. I had the old epic, it was like an extra 7 months for gingerbread. Lots of testing to make sure carrier iq and their charge $30 tethering option works
I'm very glad i got the i9100. Won't ever go back.

You wont be so jelly next christmas when those phones are still waiting for their first ICS update.
Never knew Samsung used a physical search button like LG?!
WiMax 4G is typically slower than HSPA+ 4G and it drains battery a lot faster too. And when the Epic 4G Touch drops down to EVDO, which happens often, network speeds are dog slow.

It's always been like that for the US carrier-branded versions of Samsung's phones; I'm not sure if the US carriers feel that Americans need a familiar four-button layout, or if US patents are stricter regarding the button and they're avoiding yet another lawsuit from Apple.
But yeah. If you want a big screen, get a Nexus or a Note.

That picture is a lie, the sprint version is the biggest sgs2 out there.
At&t = 126 x 66 x 8.9 mm
Tmobile = 130 x 69 x 9 mm
Sprint = 130 x 70 x 10 mm

In North America, carrier versions are almost ALWAYS worse than the international version.
Only exception seems to be the I777 - it's about a draw. Failure-prone mechanical home button replaced with capacitive buttons (good), NFC (good), audio setup is just different enough that you can't use I9100 audio libraries (very bad when combined with AT&T's ****ty update policy).
The Sprint version sucks - its radio service is unreliable as hell. The RIL will frequently just die, requiring a reboot.
