[Q] Multi touch keyboard for HD2? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hey all, really amazed how fast Android is moving now on our HD2s. Any one hear about the possibility of the Multi touch keyboard from the Droid 2 getting ported over? I've read that they're starting to get it for the Droid X & Incredible, so thought I'd ask. I use Swype religiously and I'm really happy with it, but I'm kinda intrigued with the multi touch idea since the main reason I don't like a stock keyboard is that they're never fast enough for me and this is supposed to solve that. Any ideas?

Search the development thread I remember seeing something there a couple days ago..... It had to be pushed though..

g1 users opions?

Hey.. I've been waiting out upgrading my phone till I saw something that suits me. The N1 is the first android phone that is tempting me to upgrade from the g1 but, my only concern is the keyboard. the onscreen keyboard on the g1 is completely useless... I have no idea how you people on the mytouch / hero get by without a qwerty. So my question is to all you guys who upgraded from the g1... How is the typing on the N1? does the huge screen help? Or is it still a pain in the ass?
thanks in advance!!!
It's still not as good as a hardware keyboard for me, but it's significantly better than the G1's onscreen keyboard. I'm not really missing the hardware one except when writing really long emails.

[Q] Making move to Android

Getting ready to make the move from running and modding Windows Mobile phones for the last 6 years to give the android phones a try.
Was at store playing around this past weekend and down to two phones. I love the Droid 2 feel, slideout qwerty, but hated the motorolla interface. Also looked at the HTC incredible which I loved the interface but really missed the slider qwerty, and it has a slower processor.
I know if it was a windown mobile phone I could flash out a new ROM cooked with the HTC interface and have the phone I want, but been looking around the flash ROM's here and not seeing any cooked like that. So just looking for opinions/suggestions or links if I am just not finding what I am looking for.
There are currently no ROMS for the Droid 2 that have the Sense UI (HTC's interface). You can get close using a mixture of ADW.Launcher, WidgetLocker, and Fancy Widget Pro along with some other apps/widgets.

Feeling like a fish out of water trying to get my head around all the differences coming from Winmo for so long.
Should it be possible to get the Sense UI and no one has yet done it, or are there reasons why it hasn't been done (is it open sourced)? I am not afraid to get the phone and dive into figuring out ROM cooking an Android phone. Just trying to get some idea because while I really like the feel and specs of the Droid 2, that Sense UI was just so far superior (probably helps that it was much more similar to the ROM I am running on my HTC Fuze WinMo phone for the last 2 years)
Sense is not open source. Besides most folks usually want to remove the proprietary junk and move the ORMs closer to the AOSP as that's a lot easier to modify and customize to one's liking.
Your best bet is to use free/cheap programs and widgets, as originally advised by Spitemare, to duplicate the look and feel as much as possible.
Wait for the htc merge.

LOL, if there is one thing I have learned from having various smart phones for the last 6 years it is this. The perfect phone is always just around the corner, best to just pick from phones available now

lol, too true, man. droid 2's got nice hardware and it's pretty cheap compared to the other offerings. with fission on it you're back to almost aosp. runs really nicely. it's possible that we'll get a sense port but don't count on it.
plus, as 'freeness' goes, the d2 (and x, and d2g, and milestone, etc) are all locked pretty tight. no custom bootloaders, recoveries, etc. so you might go with the dinc just for that reason if it's important to you.
Well the reason he said it is because the HTC merge will have a QWERTY keyboard and HTC Sense.
Other than that, you could always get a Droid 2 and put LauncherPro on it to run like HTC Sense.
The best home replacement is ahome... it cost 5 bucks but it makes the phones home screen sooo smooth its ridiculous.

Not really relevant at all but I glanced at the thread title and read "Making love to Android" LOL four hours of sleep doesn't help anything.

Droid 2 Multi-Touch Keyboard

Before any flaming happens ive searched the forums for about an hour and still no success. I really like the motorola droid 2's multi-touch keyboard. I searched and found some apk's for the keyboard but they dont work--i get forcloses. Maybe its not compatible with gingerbread? Im running mdeejays gingerbread. Can anyone post a link to a working keyboard, or maybe even make it compatible for gingerbread? Thank You.

Considering a HD 2.

I'm considering buying a HD 2 exclusively for Android. However i've read a lot about the g sensor and don't really want to take the plunge and end up not having working games etc.
I'd be buying second hand so no chance of returning if it doesn't work. It seems the android roms run just as good as native otherwise than the few with the above problem.
Can anyone confirm this or are there still issues with it being a WinMo handset?
In some beta phased ROMs auto rotation can have some problems. But this is a small percentage of all ROMs so don't be afraid, I didn't have this issue.
I have already tested about 10 different ROMs.
Go for it. As far as android on hd2 goes, well is as good as a native android, some of the roms here are amazing and work flawlessly. Even if HTC & Google tried to cook a rom for this phone now, it probably wont be as good as some of the roms here;-).
G sensor issues were resolved months ago. The only thing that someone might complain about is some auto rotation issues that only affect a handful of roms, but can be fixed using a different launcher.
Depending on the build you choose, android runs just as good, and in most cases waaay better than WM ever did. I bought my phone about 7 months ago, and only ran WM the first week I had it.
The HD2 is very easy to mod, and all of my friends love my phone, a couple have even gotten it because I showed them all the possibilities on them. And they are really happy they did.
If you have the opportunity to get one, I'm sure they are relatively cheap now since most people dont know about the massive community support for them and WM on them is pretty bad.

that sure is true
g-sensor works perfectly. Playing NFS Shift with zero problems running the rom in my sig....
I had a similar question to ask see my situation is that I have a Nexus One and I want a HD2 but I don't have the money to flat out purchase one because currently I'm not working due to being laid off.
I was thinking of trading my Nexus One for a HD2.
Now my question is what do you guys think, should I do the trade?
Hows the battery life now with the HD2 running on Android?
I remember reading last year on XDA that the battery life wasn't too good, have things changed with better roms.
Do you think it's even worth trading or should I just keep my Nexus One?
Any or all replies will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Its a win win both ways, both are really great phones
sometimes i wish i have kept my nexus because of the sleek and sexiness of it but most of the times i love my hd2
i bought a hd2 because i really wanted to try out WP7 also, right now i have WP7 and android dual booted and it is amazing
if you want to stick to just android, i think the nexus would be better (considering that the giant screen difference doesnt make a difference)
----
Bought an HD2 about a month ago and Android runs flawlessly on it. I had a Samsung Captivate last year and this performs every bit as well as that did aside from gaming (Hummingbird is a beast compared to the 1st Gen Snapdragon).
Haven't had any issues with games so far. Currently running the TyphooN CM7 ROM but have also used Hyperdroid CM7, Ultimate Droid and the official MIUI. All excellent, fast ROMs.
I bought the phone a year ago thinking I was going to be stuck on WinMo 6.5 forever. This is by far the coolest phone I've ever had.
I also had a similar question about this, I'm thinking about trading my vibrant for an hd2, but I'm not sure if it's a good trade or not, my friend has an hd2 and it was awesome! What would you do?
I second the above praise. The HD2 came out on Feb. 16th in 2010. There is not one other phone that came from then that is as current now. I am running NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.6 and love it. Very happy I got it.
the only problem for me is multitouch is really annoying when playing fps. It seems when 2 touches get close to aligning on either the x and y axis it become problem, so when I playing nove, sandstorm suddenly my person will turn around 180 degree. really annoying other than that no complain at all. best device I ever had, no regret buying this product LOVE HTC, next device would be htc sensation or htc EVO 3D

Hi
I'm trying to install NFS Shift on HD2 but the game on start shows only the logo and stops.
Is there a special procedure to install this game?

[Q] Quitting the HD2 game - what next?

Hi guys!
I know there are quite a few posts like this but haven't found one yet reguarding the phones I am looking at so...
My HD2 is starting to get a little boring (working fine thou) so thinking of changing it! My requirements for a replacement are: Windows Phone native device (no Android device running a ported WP ROM or anything) and a full hardware QWERTY keyboard! Aparently that is quite hard to come by... The two devices that look best to me are: Dell Venue Pro and HTC 7 Pro
Thoughts?

There's a device suggestion thread in the General forum where you'll get far more replies. You're going to struggle if you need a physical keyboard, no high-end WP8 phone will have one AFAIK.

Oh thanks I didn't see that one before! Yeah I am starting to see that physical keyboards are a hard thing to come by today Even on Android the line-up is limited...
In the unlikely case that RIM succeed with bb10, you might still have some luck. However I think there's not much of a future in hardware keyboards.

A bluetooth keyboard may be your answer, you can get ones attached to a phone case which slides out.
Do they work on Windows Phone? They don't on 7.8 I can verify but don't know about 8?
