I'll have Android on my HTC HD2 and have updating HSPL3 and the Radio to Leo_RADIO_2.10.50.26, darkstone HD2Froyo 2.2
On the signal there are an "R" is this roaming?
Under Wireless and network settings, Mobile networks, I have unchecked Data Roaming, but still it saying Roaming under About phone, Status, Roaming!
Roaming or not?
Do anyone know this?

Yes, the R is roaming. It should tell you which network you're roaming on in the drop-down notification area and on the lockscreen.

Not sure if this is the correct forum but I want to be able to turn of roaming completely. I have a US G1 on the three UK network with the US RC33 installed and root. I have disabled data roaming. Here in the UK we're too small a country to want to roam! Coverage is usually good enough from a single network. However, I occasionally get the little 'R' symbol on the single strength icon and an annoying prompt saying I need to turn data roaming on because I lost connectivity. I have to go into the settings and manually select the "3" network again.
What I want is to either be connected to three UK or not connected to anything at all. Is there a config file I can edit to allow this? Would the UK RC8 firmware do this for me?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Doesn't a 3-UK SIM try to roam onto O2 though?
You could set the phone WCDMA only and NOT roam onto a GSM network.
Use AnyCut to shorcut Activity: Phone Info
From there under preferred Network Type; set to "WCDMA Only"
HELP!! Roaming signal won't go away
I have an unlocked G1, JF1.41 v 1.1 and i just updated to the RC33...but this also happened when i had RC30 , v 1.0...
I put in my canadian Fido sim card and everything works fine but i have that little "R" on top of my signal strength bar...
I think this means its data roaming? if this is the case...it should be okay (even though its going to bother me) because my service provider says my EDGE/Data is disabled (i do not have a data plan, NOR do i wish to incur any data charges.. i'm fine with my free WIFI ) .
However, if this means im roaming on another network, i dont want to be incuring any long distance charges on my phone EVEN when im using my own FIDO network..
I went to settings - about phone - status, and here are my specs (some of them):
Network: Fido
Network Type: EDGE
Service state: In service
Roaming: Roaming
Data Access: Disconnected
i'm pretty much just concerned about the ROAMING part of it... my other friends with G1's are with rogers, don't have that little R..
how do i get rid of that?? please and thanks!
Try manually changing the network in Settings>Wireless controls>Mobile networks>Operator selection
G1, like all GSM phones, will roam onto networks specified on the SIM if it can get a better signal. As long as the relevant operator has a roaming agreement in place, there's nothing to be concerned about, other than the R symbol in the status bar.
Mod: move this over to General discussion please.
I did change it and selected my Fido network (it's the only network available).
Thanks. I've set it to WCDMA only so I'll see how it goes.
Please help??? i still have that little R on top!
After I got home I found my phone had lost its connection. It didn't seem to be searching for the network. I had to go into settings, search for networks and then select three again. Is there any way to control if the phone does a search for networks automatically?
Looks like it reconnects to three on its own after a while. I still get the annoying popup about turning on data roaming though

As has been previously mentioned, Three will "roam" onto another network if it goes out of Three's own 3G network coverage because Three does not run its own 2G network.
However, it isn't O2 anymore, it is Orange as of late 2006/2007. I *believe* that you won't be charged any more if you use data whilst "roaming" on Orange, so whilst you are in the UK it is quite safe to allow data roaming, but I would be inclined to check this with Three.
Regards,
Dave
I'm using T-Mobile USA network and all my specs can be found in signature for Rom, Radio etc
I'm on radio 2.14 because on 2.15 it would sound like I was in a tunnel and on 2.12 it seemed to drop carrier more often then now on 2.14.
I'm in Williamsburg, VA (right near Virginia Beach, VA) and the coverage area is good where I'm at.
My phone will just randomly go into unknown carrier. It still has bars and functionality but it just goes into unknown carrier so I go into settings/wireless & networks/mobile networks/network operators. AT&T and T-Mobile show up and I select T-Mobile and it registers it again as the registered network.
Anyone experience this issue I for the life of me can't figure out why or how it does it or how to get it off of select best network automatically in the settings and just have it select T-Mobile network.
Thanks to all who answer.
have you got roaming enabled?
Go to setting and turn off roaming!!
Sent from my HD2 using XDA Premium App
No international and data roaming has been unchecked the entire time.
I get error 78 when roaming. Cannot get a data connection!!! Help can anyone data roam?
If you are asking if you can use data while your phone is roaming then yes. My phone roams with data 24/7.

where would you be located? maybe the problem is my area?
Depending on your rom, you may have to allow it in settings. I know in my "mobile network settings" on MIUI there's an option to allow or disable data roaming. I'm not sure of the default, but mine is disabled. I don't remember changing it, but I may have.

Go to Menu, settings, Wireless & Networks, Mobile networks, make sure "data roaming" is checked on.
stock rom and yes allow data roaming it enabled.
When i have it roam it grabs data then loses it ending with error 78
happened on unrooted and rooted. two different evos

I had this problem also. You have to call sprint and have them update your profile, and or provisioing(is that a word) on their end. After that all was good, also when you flash a new rom always update your profile, and prl after first boot.
Sent from my synergized criffvo
they have many times still get error 78
it sucks it only happens while roaming
Update
I had same problem updated profile and havent had issue since
Android: V.2.3.5
HTC SENSE: V.3.0

ROM: R2R Kingdom 3.0 RC V1.1
PRL V.60681
PRI V.2.15_003

If you are on the west coast, sprint is experiencing 3g outages. I got a different error code, but it's probably related to the same outage as sprint may not be able to authenticate your device on the roaming network.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I have been told by sprint today about the outage
I can currently access 3g on sprints side but nothing on roaming. however my wife with a blackberry style can data roam
Just activated it today, no data in Chicago either.
Hey again everyone, I posted a question earlier about a possible radio issue on a HTC HD2 I unlocked from O2 UK today and I'm now using it on T-Mobile. Basically my problem is that I can access mobile data while my signal is T-Mobile only, but as soon as it switches to T-Mobile/Orange (these two networks now share each others signals), the H (3G icon) turns into an R (stands for Roaming, amirite?) and I get a notification telling me that I've lost connection because I left my home area with roaming not turned on... However, with roaming on I can access the internet constantly, but I'm worried about incurring hefty data roaming charges so I don't think that's a solution.
The phone is running an Android ICS ROM (the NexusHD2 one, thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860), it was locked to O2 UK and it's now running on T-Mobile/Orange. Also WiFi, GPS and calls/texts work so I doubt it's a radio issue.
Been searching the internet for a while now to find a solution and can't find one, if you can find a thread with the answer please link me
Thanks in advance!

IMO it's not a radio issue!
You should contact your network operator and ask them about this and extracharges for that (strange kind of) roaming...
I once experienced some issues on data roaming while having Wifi turned on. Turning it off made it work fine on my tytungs ICS.
I got an international version SM-G900i from Amazon. I have an ATT sim card. The text and phone calls work fine but I could not get any data roaming. Though from other posts I got the data roaming, I was not able to set onto the ATT 3G/2G network in the network operator selection. My network is always shown as Maritime. Does anybody know why this happens and ways to change it?
Thanks a lot.

I tried configure the APN setting based on a link online for ATT APN. Now I am losing signals even for calls and texts....I think there might be other things that are wrong...
Error message for no ATT service
Tried different variety of ATT APN setting. Still could not get it to work....the phone shows a signal but gave me an error message that Selected network(AT&T) not available

I'm not sure what did you mean by "data roaming"??
Anyway, the problem for now is no network register. The APN settings will NOT affect at this step, so not not try to mess up with it right now.
Try to get into Settings > More networks > Mobile networks, and set Network mode to Auto connect, and Network operator > Select automatically.
That may help the device to register on the Home network.
Problem solved....or maybe not but it is working!

Okay. Thanks. I switched it back to the auto-selection mode. By data roaming....I mean 3G data. My phone is working now. I checked ATT billing usage report, it did not increase the data usage dramatically so I guess everything is fine.

Glad that your phone works now.
BTW "data roaming" and "3G data" are different things. "data roaming" is "3G data" when you are roaming to another network (not your home network).
