[Q] Sending it back -- warranty - HD2 General

Hello all! I'm so sorry if you feel like you've been seeing this topic everywhere and I have too, except for one thing.. I haven't gotten one, clear answer to it.
My phone had been acting horribly the past month: freezing, then frozen after battery pull at the stick together sign, then loading up again, then freezing. It would only work if I could be quick enough to turn Sense off. I love Sense though. and for the few months before that I'd had it, it had been working perfectly with Kumar's Premium ROM. Now, I have already received a new("like new") HD2 from T-Mobile because it was still covered under warranty, HOWEVER, since I had flashed many custom ROMs, I had to take HSPL off. I did this by flashing the stock TMobile upgrade (2.13) from their website from my SD card.
My question is: Is there anything else I have to make sure to take off the phone other than HSPL and custom ROM? When I go to the Bootloader, it shows that there is no HSPL and only SPL 1.42something. Is there anything else that can cause me to lose the warranty once they get the phone itself, because from what the lady told me, if they determine that the phone isn't under warranty, they can charge a pretty hefty amount.

if bootloader really shows spl
1.42something

then you don't have a tmous, you have
a regular hd2.
you need to double check that before you go any further.

Now this is gonna be hilarious if he got a refurb unit from T-mo, that somebody had previously flashed a euro ROM/spl on!

lol, and of course tmo would say 'oh no, that couldnt happen, its YOUR fault', hehe

Sorry for the confusion..now I feel dumb. But no, the SPL is: 2.10.0000
lol.

it should be fine then.
if you wanna double check, download the 2.13 rom from tmous website and flash that via usb.

Is that necessary if I did that through SD card first? I'm only being a pain on this post because the phone won't even stay on long enough for me to do/check anything so I wanted to ask if there was anything else. I think I might just send it back and see what happens.!
Thank you all

no, not necessary. the 2.10.0000 is the important part. it will be fine.

Thank you very much for the help

Guarantee, flash, ship rom

Hi!
Earlier I had Hard SPL, now I have USPL and Dutty's 3.0.
If I'll return to stock SPL and stock ROM (using one of these http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_Ship_exe), will it be possible to tell that my phone was flashed? Can I use guarantee?
Thanks.
I think the general consensus is that you can. I'm sure if they really looked hard there maybe some trace of hard spl but I doubt they would. They'd see the phone boot up with stock spl and take that as a given.
Simply I'm going to sell the phone, and I'm thinking of, what to tell.. If the phone still have guarantee or it doesn't. The price depends on it.
Maybe anybody had a real experience?

I also think that they won't search for some tracks of flashing really hard, but still...

I might of bricked my phone.

Okay I messed up I rooted my phone and updated it, and I tried to take a chance to put the hero rom on my phone, and now it's stuck on the install icon. I take the battery out and try to access recovery mode and it won't get off that screen.
What happened? I was wondering if someone would help me out here. Please.
What is the "install icon"? Your post doesn't make sense... can you describe what you're seeing?
Also, can you enter bootloader by holding down the camera button while powering up?
it's a box with a phone next to it. and no it won't let me enter bootloader. the same stuff came on.

If you can't enter bootloader or recovery, then you're definitely bricked. However, simply trying to flash a Hero ROM wouldn't do that. Did you flash the new radio and SPL?
I don't understand why newbs insist on flashing straight to a Hero ROM once they've rooted... you HAVE to update to a regular ROM first in order to flash an upgraded recovery, then flash radio, then SPL, then Hero ROM.
It was totally a noob move. I'm new to this whole thing and saw this youtube video of this guy running android and hero 2.0.1 on his g1 and like wanted it so bad and now I'm paying for it cause my phone is slammed stuck.
The Hero rom actually didn't do it, it was the radio update that was given with the hero rom that did it.
What Hero ROM did you use? Can you post a link? If you had flashed the SPL already, then flashed the updated radio afterwards, then yeah.. that would do it.
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1448
Yea thats what I did. Son of a *****, I knew I should of just waited until T-Mobile released 2.0 for the G1, but NO I had to "HAVE" it. ****!
That sucks man... did you buy your phone from T-mobile recently? If so, you could get it exchanged by telling them that there was some update, and then afterward it just gets stuck at that screen.
naw i got it about eight monthes ago. i bought two, one for me and one for my girl.
If you bought it brand new 8 months ago, it should still be under warranty. Call T-mobile if you ordered it online or over the phone, or take it back to the store if you bought it from there. They'll replace it for you.
Just don't tell them what you were doing... play dumb and act like you don't know what happened. Tell them there was some message about an update and you hit ok, then when it rebooted it got stuck.

Thats a actual hero rom for the Hero phone, you needed the ported one for the G1 / Dream.
I know its no help now the damage is done, but once you get the phone sorted.
As others have said just act dumb with tmobile and you should get it replaced.

Just flash a donut ROM after you root the replacement. Dwang's is a good choice, as it includes Terminal Emulator, which comes in handy to flash to an updated Recovery. I recommend Amon_RA's latest v1.5.2. Once you have flashed the updated recovery, THEN you should flash the updated Radio, THEN the Danger SPL. Follow the directions in my sig for flashing the Radio and SPL. Then you'll have to flash Dwang's ROM again, since the SPL flash will throw your phone into a bootloop. Just don't freak out. Make sure you read the tutorials and ask us questions if anything's unclear.

congrats man! all isn't lost thanks to silly tmobile

1st one who killed the HD2 ;-(

I just HSPL my new T-Mobile 2.08 US HD2.
Worked soooo smooth. Thanks for that. Now the tricky part, I did not read detailed enough that the rom I flashed was a 1.66 based one.
now the HD2 is dead, no powerup, bootloader mode, reset or chargeing led.
Any way to safe it or back to t-mobile?
Thanks Guys
=( omg.... i was impatient too... I was downlaoding all these roms but remembered i didnt install the new HSPL thing.. and then i read the posts -_- sigh.. sorry man
I am so sorry man. Your best bet is to hope you can find a station where they'll work some factory reset magic on there...
Yeah. Sorry to hear that. I wish the SPL program would warn the user or refuse to install if it detected an old 1.66.
No brother
YWell Brother u and me both have to play the old hood wink on tmobile and play the it just died face so we can get a new one. Fortunatly we have 14 days if you kept your receipt, to take it back and nag saying it just shut of for no reason. Its hell of bricked, even HTC would have to completely take it apart to fix it, so no trace of anything would ever come back. the bad thing is their sold out everywhere till Tuesday or Wednesday. But ill wait its a bad ass phone. woooo! where do you live dude? in vegas?
I have read that you can microwave it for a few seconds and that kills it stone dead. No way they can tell what you flashed.
This is a very extreme method and an absolute LAST RESORT!!!!

Have you tried the SD card flash method.
You need to copy the original Tmob ROM file to your blank SD card, rename it to leoimg.nbh (i Think), and then try start in bootloader.

Which hspl did you flash and which rom?
the new one for 1024 T-Mobile 2.08.
Thanks for all replies,
For the Microvawe version, if you smash it with a hammer, has the same effect. Go Green.
No kidding, I ask for a repair solution not a Brick it more.
Bootloader is not working at all, so no SD way as well. And a rom based on 1.66. Smart as I am, I deleted the file.
Like I said, HSPL was great. Was still working after that.

I laughed my ass off so hard at that comment!
So I got it exchanged, I did the Hard spl and its fine so far. Still working.
Dont want to brick it again,
Is there any cooked German Rom that I can use on a USA T-Mobile HD2 based on 2.08?
To make my HD2 in German language?
(post removed, wrong thread)
This is why I'm choosing to wait a little bit before jumping in and flashing my TMOUS HD2. I don't have the 'cajones' to be a guinea pig! I'm waiting until everything plays out and the process is tried and proven safe.
For now I'm enjoying the stock TMOUS Rom, and applying tweaks here and there. I'm running into bugs and annoyances here and there, but don't feel a strong urge to flash roms just yet...especially when so many others are having issues!
Yeah, when it comes to the software side of this phone, I just take it all in with the regular rom and see what I REALLY want out of it as far as options and whatnot. THEN I get to the rom goodies after a lot of review and feedback.
Hardware I'll dissect the guts if I have to anyday though.

I think you'd be much better off browsing all the thread titles in the ROM Development section looking for a rom that is [GER] and [2.08+]/TMOUS based
As long as it's been taken off a TMOUS device, it will work on your TMOUS device

he he. I know it's hilarious. As I said, absolutely last resort if you are taking it back for warranty cos if they find any spl other than factory one your warranty is void straight off the bat. Nice to see you got a replacement without problems.
I just read that advice from another post here on the forum and it is way extreme!!!
As posted above - any rom based on tmous original roms should work. Good luck

YOU might use BSB Tweaks and choose manila language in the menu.
I bet it is based on the tool that downloads the needed manila files from the internet.
Try searching for the tool here on xda or use BSB tweak (but there is a solution to get it fully working german!)

I've just bricked mine. Don't make the same mistake!!!!

I flashed laurentius29 rom to my tmous leo.
Result - expensive paperweight.
Already exchanged it in tmob store telling them it just died. I've had it for just two days.
Seriously! Don't attempt to flash non-tmous roms to your tmous phones.
I thought they are fos saying you can brick your phone doing that.
I thought I knew what I was doing with my quite long winmo history. (Samsung i730, Kaiser, Rafael and Leo just recently)
do you have hspl installed?
Doesn't matter as non-TMOUS ROMs won't work on a TMOUS HD2
gees.....better buy openline HTC HD2...
Just to make sure:
Flashing a TMOUS ROM to a NON-TMOUS device won't brick your device?
With Hspl you should be able to recover... ROMS dont touch the bootloader. And without Hspl you wouldnt be able to flash..
It is not the fault of his ROM but your choice of a ROM not compatible. I think his base is 1.72 or 1.66 and with drivers from this same build. I would ask him to be sure.
Make sure you flash a ROM with 2.10 base and you should be ok.
Sorry to hear about your device but at least you were lucky enough to be in the US and they changed it out quickly for you.
Hi Stank0,
I'm very sorry to read this and will make an anouncement immidiatly that the rom isn't compatible with the T-Mob US model.
Sorry to ask you as you got damage enough but can you tell me the procedure you followed flashing the rom?
Thank you.

After I flashed HSPL2, I tried a few ROMs. 2x NRG's and Kumar's. They all worked OK but I wanted to try yours bcz I used to have it for quite a while on my Rafael. (before I switched 2 NRG for some reason I don't remember).
I always flash over old flash without going through all the "necessary" steps and it almost always worked good. I went through flashing stock first only when something went wrong. (very rarely)
So I did the same thing with your ROM flashing it over NRG's. (Via USB)
Obviously, my poor tmous LEO couldn't handle all that "Ultimate Power" and after the flash was succesfully finished, it never started up.
No light, no sound.
First I thought I'll just get into a bootloader and reflash.
But after I found out that I can't get even bootloader up, I realized I'm pretty much screwed.
The phone didn't react to ANYTHING.
When I plugged it up to my laptop, it tried to install new driver for it but of course unsuccessfully.
I've had quite a hard time to find a store with HD2 in stock. Apparently they sell better than fresh rolls.
Oh by the way Laurentius26, I don't blame you for it at all. It was my fault not listening what wise people say. From now on, if it doesn't say "TMOUS COMPATIBILE", I'm not touching it.
And that what I recommend others to do too.
Unless you want to live dangerously and have a nice but quite expensive paperweight.

So let me get this straight, you flash hspl on your device to flash custom ROMs. If you brick a phone, is it completely useless forever in eternity? (besides being a paperweight) Is there anyway to recover it at all? At all, at all?
Hi Stank0,
Thanks for letting me know.
Flashing a rom shouldn't brick your device like that, even if the flash went all ok or not it should always be possible
to reflash (recover) as mentioned earlier that flashing a rom doesn't touch the bootloader.
Dit you try to take out the battery for half an hour and then try to get in bootloader?
Anyway I'm very sorry your device is bricked .
To make sure I've updated my rom threads with a warning to avoid this in future.

this is bad, im sorry for your loss
though flashing a rom doesnt screw up the bootloader
Problem is T-Mob US model has different NAND.
XDA opened two section as well as the hardware is different.
* HD2 ROM Development
* T-Mob USA HD2 ROM Development
I have no T-Mob USA model and I'm not 100% sure if the device is bricked because
of flashing the rom so it's better to take precautionary measures to avoid this in future.

It sounds more like coincidence.
I can't imagine Leo includes bootleader in his rom, so it shouldn't have effected the spl at all.
Thanks Fards,
Indeed there's no SPL (bootloader) in the rom so if a user flashed HSPL first and then the rom it doesn't touch the bootloader and it should be always possible to get in bootmodus after a bad flash and reflash the rom.
It worried and made me doubt for 2 days but this makes no sense the device is bricked because of flashing the rom it must be coinsidence.
There are enough stickies how to flash a rom and I've included rom flash instructions in my rom thread so I'm going to remove the warning.
@Stank0, I feel sorry your device is bricked but I hope you understand my decission.

re-bump. can anyone answer this?
I agree with everyone else. It wasn't the flash-it was the flasher. He didn't follow the basics. Wrong rom, flashed repeatedly while bypassing vital steps. It wasn't bricked-he got jumpy. He shouldn't flash if he can't follow simple tutorials and stickies.

Touch screen dead!

So the touch screen is not responding. I've read little blurbs here and there about quick fixes, but it looks like nothing is working for me. I've obviously voided my warranty by installing HSPL, MAGLDR and flashing NAND Android to the phone, so sending it back won't work. Do I need a new screen, or what?
You can revert it back to WM 6.5 and remove HSPL and send it back in.

So can I fix the issue by replacing the digitizer? If so, they're really cheap on eBay.

Just stick a stock rom on your sd card named leoimg.nbh, then power into bootloader (hold vol down and then press power key, then release vol down once in bootloader).
Once you have windows on phone you can also use activesync or power into bootloader again to flash stock spl.
When you have virginized your phone send it back to htc/insurance or whatever.
I never got the insurance on it...oops

HD2 is known for having digitizer problems. A good repair shop will fix it for around $110. If your good at fixing things you can attempt to do this yourself and save about $50 or $60 in labor. I had mine repaired and it works and looks just like new. It took 3 days to get it back but only because they had to order the digitizer. And please dont believe the guy who said "another dead screen after flashing to nand", Flashing has nothing to do with it, its a hardware problem that affects hd2 users on ALL operating systems, look it up.
Looks like if you keep reflashing it, it works. WP7 works for me 100% so far. It is totally a software issue.
