Hi folks,
because of the cracking-problem i ordered a spare-housing on ebay. My X1 is silver, the spare-housing is black. So i now have a silver and a black battery cover.
Following the threads around the cracks, most people think, that the cover is causing this somehow. It also seems to me, that the silver one cracks more often than black. So i tried the black cover on my silver X1. Looks quite nice, by the way But i noticed, that it fits much easier than my original silver cover.
A quick measure showed: The black one is a little bit wider. It is easier to put on and to take off. The silver one is 50.3mm and the black is 51.0mm. Look at the pics to see what i measured.
Now i am interested, if this is only with my cover. So please do check your cover-width and post the result. At the moment i am using my X1 without the battery-cover (it's in a case) to see wheter it is cracking again or not.
Thanks!
I think one of the reasons the cracks appear is due to temperature change of the metal surrounding the phone. Have had 2 black one's and both have had cracks in the metal and plastic.
Does anybody know what type of glass the Slide uses...
It doesn't seem to be the same scratch proof glass we saw on the Nexus One if that's what you were wondering. Mine already has a few tiny marks. Get a screen protector if you are the type of person that likes to keep the screen mint.
Thats what I was afraid of, Does any one know of any good screen protectors..
I guess Static would be better.... I'm just stuck using the stock plastic thing until I can find a good protector and it looks bad right now...
I purchased my slide at the retail store and picked up a 2 pack of screen protectors for $15. Not cheap, but they are good quality and fit the screen perfect.
I'd say try the Zagg Invisible Shield it covers the whole entire phone. its pretty awesome.

i like ghostarmour screen protectors and body shields, the screen protector is $15 but you get a liftime warranty on it and it feels nice under the finger. i have one on my mytouch 3g and absolutely love it. full body shield is $35 i think and if you have to warranty the phone, just take material off phone and take new phone back to them and they will replace with new protectors for free
I have the invisable shield by zagg my job is actually right around the corner from them I get free shields and stuff because my work has been suppying materials for their new store,It is a good cover for your phone lifetime warraty and all no questions asked replacements. Thats my 2 cents for what it worth.
I had an Invisible Shield on my G1. Amazing screen protector, crappy body protection. It collected grime all over and got pretty disgusting. The screen protectors T-Mo sells for $10x2 are quite nice.
Thanks guys.
I'll probably go with one of those protectors.
when I bought my slide at radio shack in order to get the phone for the 100 bucks I had to buy an accessory. Anyway $7 for a 5 pack of screen protectors..

What about..
The actual dust under the screen like this topic is meant for though? I have a full body Zagg shield on MT3GS and still I found dust under my screen today. It is on the bottom right corner of the glass and have no idea how it got there! Better enough I absolutely have had no luck with finding cases or anything for my phone. Anyways if I find dust under my screen again I will NOT be keeping this phone. T-Mobile went real cheap on this design.
Have any of you experienced any discoloration on the soft "rubber" like portions of the G2? I'm always really careful with the phone, and it's in a leather case full-time. However, I just noticed that I've got a black mark on the bottom of my phone; looks like the finish is wearing off.
I started getting a black mark on mine (before I got my replacement). I attributed it to the black dye on the inside fabric from my Cellet holster. I could get it off either.
I have since gotten a replacement (for a different issue), applied a full body skin, and switched to a holster with a grey interior.
The soft molded plastic parts of my phone are turning a yellowish green. It is happening most around the volume rocker and power switch. There's a topic at the T-Mobile forums about this. One person posted pictures of their phone and it is really bad.
A lot of other G2 owners are reporting the same thing.
I remember a while back someone posted pics of their brand new replacement G2 next to their used G2 and a lot of people commented on the color difference, wondering if something changed between the newer models. But it looks like these phones discolor badly after a while.
This sucks.
I had returned a G2 that turned a little greenish on me. I think it happened when I placed My G2 on top of my hot computer. I would also keep it away from heat and harsh chemicals such as alcohol.
I received a replacement one, and I installed zagg full body invisible shield on it.
Hmm. I don't have mine in a case.. Its usually in my hand, my front pocket (alone) it sitting on my desk or a table. I've not noticed any color issues. Sounds like the cases are doing it. Planning on getting Invisible shield put on mine but wondering if it makes it harder to hold on to? Too slick? I like the kind rubbery feeling, makes it stick in my hand better.

The invisible shield fullbody has a glossy film. If your hands are oily it will feel a little slippery. The it covers the G2 about 95%. The only part uncovered is the gray area around the keyboard.
The screen protector included with the invisible shield is terrible. There are some indention marks on the film from coins and pens on my pocket. It is scratch proof but not wrinkle or dent proof. If viewed on an angle, It makes me want to rip off the screen protector. I prefer the kinda matte finish screen protector that you could get from tmobile.
In addition, I would also avoid the black rubber snap on case you get from tmobile. The back case is so thick that the opening for the camera act as a funnel for keys and coins. I had a nasty horizontal gash on my camera screen on my first G2.

I was the one that posted those pictures.
Does any one know any way to go about getting a replacement, I was an early adopter and pre ordered mine on sept 27th... and received it October 1st. My remorse period has passed a while ago and anyway I only started noticing this problem after my remorse period ended.
My hinge is okay and the random reboots were solved with the update. There are really no complaints besides this ridiculous discoloration.

I've noticed with my friend's G2, I got mines a week later, put the full body sealth sheild on it and mines not wearing out but his looks lighter than mine. And also he doesn't seem to have the yellow spots next to his keyboard while I do. WTF?
For anyone experiencing this issue a fix:
Take some q-tips, a cap of bleach, and a cap of hydrogen peroxide.
Dip a q-tip in the bleach cap, and blot it on a napkin. Rub the q-tip on the discolored rubberized parts of the phone, and let it dry. Take another q-tip, and dip in the hydrogen peroxide, and blot on a napkin. Rub the q-tip on the discolored rubberized parts of the phone.
Rinse, and repeat the procedure above until you are satisfied with the result. You should begin to notice that the "rubberized" parts of the phone you are working with will feel more "rubbery" again, instead of smooth.
Buy yourself a case for your G2, a screen protector, and enjoy.
So I dropped my phone today and now the screen is flickering. the screen is smooth and you cannot feel cracks so the glass itself is fine. There are cracks underneath the glass so I'm assuming it's the display. Can anyone direct me to replacement parts?
Thanks

If you don't want new, search on Amazon for S4 LCD. I just bought the black one above for a few dollars more. Its brand new, and you wont regret buying new. Of course there are used ones on ebay, I guess it depends on the quality and reliability of the seller, but i can vouch for the black one i bought on amazon.
So I'm jealous of the feel of the black backplate. From what I've read the OEM branded ones in white tend not to be as nice feeling.
Anyone willing to trade their uber black backplate for my non-uber white? Or does anyone have experience with aftermarket backplates that are of passable quality?
I think you from the bottom of my heart =]
You can get a back cover from Verizon for like ten bucks. I have a white version and don't mind it. But then again a white front and black back would drive me crazy.
