I am new to this forum, and just recieved my Cingular 8125 unlocked. Is there a way to assign different ringtones to different caller groups? Such as, a ringtone for person A and another ringtone for person B?
Also is there a way to modify the ringtone for a text message?
Thanks for your guys' help.

Groups - unfortunately not. Apparently the whole Contacts app has no notion of 'Groups' whatsoever, so you would need a third party application fort hat.

That you can do - just edit the contact and tap the "Ring tone:" field.

Not per-sender, but in general:
Start > Settings > |Personal| > Sounds & Notifications* > |Notifications| > Event: "Messaging: New text message"
I didn't know of the built in RingTone field in Contacts. That's very handy... I do know of an application that allows you to do what you're requiring. I came across it the other day looking for similar functionality. It's called Ringo Mobile. I've not tried it on my Wizard yet.

What is the best website to use to make ringtones for my mytouch?
and can u set a text message ringtone?
i use an app called Ringdroid and it automatically makes your folders in you sd card too. so that way if you have already preset ringtones/notifications on your computer all you have to do is go to your sd card and put it in media folder/audio

There is something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=236909
But I don't know if it works with TP2
Many years ago I had a Samsung omnia which had windows mobile 5.1
When I went to set my sms tone, it would only allow me to set the default tones.
Somebody told me to change the format to .wav and put it in a certain folder and you could then select the tone of your choice.
Is there any similar way to do this on the streak?
go into messaging app settings and change it from there. i recommend handcent sms. best text app out there.

TO enable the Streak to find your .mp3 etc to use as notification, or alarms or ringtones, you need to create a folder on your SDcard.
For Alarms, create one called Alarms
For Notifications (sms tones etc), create one called Notifications
For RIngtones, create one called.... you get the idea
once they are in those folders, you can see them and use them from the normal place you change your settings
Thank you grizlore. It's a good program too...
I have the family guy ringtone as my notification, and I wanted to change it... When I tried changing it, it won't change the sound when I get a message...
I tried using ring droid to make a new notification, but that didn't work... Any ideas?

Did you try setting the notification tone from within the messaging app?
or did you need it system wide and not just for those messages?

I was trying it from within the system settings> sound> notifications...
I fixed the issue, I had to delete the .ogg file it was associated with. Now it works like a charm.
