"National carrier not available" - Droid X General

2.2/FroYo: I've had a few problems sending MMS with Handcent, where it won't send. If I use the stock Text Messaging app I get a brief message that says something like "National Carrier not Available". Turning the radio on and off via airplane mode seems to fix this.
Anyone else having similar issues or know how to fix?

I bought the D2 second day release and returned it bc the 3g was constantly connecting and disconnecting. I wonder if it is a 2.2 issue? We will see when I get my X with 2.1. I hope it doesn't have the same issue.

I haven't had this issue yet...just different issues with Handcent (time stamps off and a couple weird things with MMS)

I have the time stamp issue as well..

Handcent issue on the 2.1 builds - 3g related?

Handcent returns 'message failed' on some people's phones when sending standard SMS (not pics etc). I just saw this issue tonight for the first time, and it ONLY happened when I was on a 3g tower. In my home town we don't have 3g, and I didn't have any problems with SMS at all.
Anybody else experiencing the issue on a 3g tower vs a non 3g tower?

I also was having this problem, but then found out that the messages were going through but that handcent was showing them as failed. I found that after sending quite a few messages that it seemed to fix itself after a while, and I no longer am having that problem.

MMS ISSUE

I could not pull any multimedia texts while on wifi. After contacting t-mobile I found out that there is currently a bug that they are aware of. You cannot pulll mms messages while on wifi. You must be on a data service in order to pull them. They are working with HTC to fix this problem.

That happened to me the first day I got the phone. I thought it was a sim card error. It never even occurred to me that I had wifi connected until you just said that now...
i think this was a bug on one of the earlier builds of my g1, like way back in the beginning
I was wondering if any of you have heard any news on this issue. Or maybe a work around besides turning off WiFi. It is so frustrating . I had this same issue with a Blackberry 8900 a while back.
I've had this same problem since I got my phone. I guess we just have to wait for Froyo and hopefully that fixes it
So it seems more like that its a tmobile thing because my wifes cliq was doing this, since we dont have data turned on with her phone and i just bought the slide and its probably the same thing...but i just try to send a pic on wifi from her slide and my nexus and neither work
Any fix for the mms issue yet?
Is anyone finding Froyo to have fixed the problem? Any workarounds? Just wondering as this is a major problem with this awesome phone. Can't send ANY MMS messages at all!
I can im always on wifi not always but like 95 percent

You can not send or receive mms over WiFi it has to be pulled from the apn and you can only pull from there when you have a data plan it is a way to keep people from using phone without data plan this applies to all Android phones

MMS won't download

Can you normally receive MMS when on WiFi? I got one, it stuck at downloading so I turned off WiFi but it didn't download... Just hangs.
My wife and I are able to send and receive mms while on wifi. When I had sprint I noticed that if I didn't have a good signal the msg would fail to download. This happened quite a bit in my house because of the lack of signal I would get in there.
I have been having an issue where my MMS's will not download... dosent matter what app i use, they all say fail to download. I have a good signal and it just does not work! has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix for it? Or is it just Tmobile's ****ty service?
I'm having the same exact issue on cincinnati bell wireless with my vibrant, correct settings for sure too. I have had a nexus one settings should be and are identical. Please someone find a fix, can't use mms at all..
No issues here, unless I get mms while on the phone, sometimes it fails to download once I hang up. My girl has issue with them sending and downloading though, she's on my touch slide.

MMS in CM10 (or any JB rom)

Does MMS work for anybody in CM10? It seems like whenever I receive one it just 'hangs' there downloading. Sometimes they will appear after a few hours, sometimes never.
Is this an issue everyone is having?
Thanks

Mms is such an annoying technology. I've had these issues since my first phone with Wap.
I believe it's often up to how carriers handle the data traffic related to sending and receiving Mms. Some carriers enables you to use the necessary data connection even when your data connection has been deactivated on your system. If not, then messages often hang like you describe, being unable to stop and re download.
The only solution I know of is having data connection activated before receiving or sending Mms.

I thought it may be related to the carrier but I didn't recall having any issues when I was using ICS, but this last month has been very tedious. But not many people appear to have the same issue so it probably isn't rom related.
There should be some workarounds possible that I have yet to try (only time I get Mms are from relatives older than 60), something that involves modifying how apn profiles work. There was some option in juice defender to use an old apn method that worked for me, it's all I can think of right now.

MMS Notification but when i click there is no message

So this has now happened to me twice, yesterday being the second time.
I'll get a notification for a message at the top, both times it has been after I already had another SMS message that I had not checked yet, then when I click on the notification to bring up the messaging app there is only one of the two messages waiting there in the list. Both times I have texted the person back and they did indeed send me some type of picture message. After resending I receive it the second time. It makes me worried that maybe we could be losing messages and not even know it. It seems to me this is a software bug (vs. Carrier problem since the phone shows a notification for the message)
Has anyone else seen this problem?
I'm on stock 4.2.2 but the first time it happened was on 4.2.1 about a month ago.
Yea, happen to me as well when I was connected to WiFi. Turned off the WiFi, and told them to send them again and it received them that time. Maybe an issue when connected to a WiFi connection?

I think you have to be connected to data in order to receive a MMS message. Wifi will not work. You will get a notification but no picture.
Of course you can't receive a MMS over a wifi, the problem is that the phone is not switching over to mobile data to receive pictures while connected to wifi. I also have this problem.

I don't quite understand your statement. You say you can receive MMS over wifi but then you say the phone has to switch to data in order to receive the picture? How is that different that what I said?
Sorry, autocorrect stole my apostrophe t. I meant cant as in can not.
I have the same issue. The slide down text msg notification icon reported 3 texts from 3 different senders. When I clicked on the icon I am taken to my text msg inbox but only 2 of the 3 text msgs where there. I then verified with my friend that he did indeed send me a text msg. I have never had an issue receiving MMS texts over WiFi. I use WiFi exclusively at work and home. So I had created the same type of thread on the androidcentral forums.
That's exactly what happened to me today, twice! My girlfriend sent me three MMS, I got the first one and two notifications after. But when tapped, all I saw was the first MMS.
My connection was poor, I thought that could be the cause...

Yea I was wondering if it is a carrier issue or if its LG or Google ?
I think a part of the issue is that the phone creates the notification the moment it recognizes that there is an incoming MMS instead of when the MMS is actually received and able to be viewed.

Well that would be fine if it is a preview of the MMS before it arrives, but when it never arrives is where the problem is. There has got to be a solution. I can't help but wonder whom has sent me a text of which I did not receive.
this happens to me also. its annoying. but i do have my wifi on all the time, so I will try it without wifi on, and see what happens.
I'm having this problem as well and I don't like any of the third-party apps. Has anyone found a fix? Thanks.
Well, I contacted T-Mobile, my carrier, and they went through a lot of troubleshooting. It basically came down to turning on mobile data alongside WiFi because apparently MMS msgs need data to send and receive. Sucks, but there it is.
