When can I expect it to update to Android 2.2 - Vibrant General

I just got the Samsung Vibrant a few days ago but lately I have noticed a bit of lag in like the market place and even when you first turn it on. I heard that Android 2.2 will fix this so when is it coming out as an update on my phone?

Rumor has it that possibly in Oct we will see Samsung and T-Mobile start rolling out 2.2

That is when Samsung releases it. It still needs T-Mobile approval.

No one has said October, this is purely speculation. I'm assuming we will hear more at IFA, which starts Septemer 2. Samsung will have a large presence at the event and promises many big announcements. I expect froyo and gps updates to be among these announcements.

Doubt that. IFA is more of an electronics showcase event. Not really a mobile phone event like Mobile Congress held in Spain.
No one said anything about October that is just pure speculation as was mentioned. I'll give my own speculation. It will be available in 2011. See how "rumor" starts?

It's coming out in about 29 minutes.

I would have to say that is incorrect.. 2.2 is actually "coming soon" and even though they have constantly said that without a date, I still believe it would be in September.
There was a tweet from I believe Samsung's Official Twitter that I cannot find at the moment but stated we would see 2.2 in up to 8 weeks, which September would make sense, unless it came out earlier. Do not hold me on this, as I cannot find the tweet to confirm.
I am also sure the fix will probably come with 2.2 and if not, 2.2 will not be far behind it the GPS fix if they did it for 2.1 and then released 2.2, once it meets T-Mobile's approval which I doubt will take long.
Just read tweets like this, and I would myself take a guess that September we could likely see the 2.2 Froyo update to our phones.

oh damn I dont know it needed to be approved by T-mobile before it releases.
I dont expect anything quick by T-mobile..omg

Seems like general consensus is that froyo OTA updates will start coming out in september with some or many people actually getting the update in October. one rumor states that fixes to gps and lag, etc, will be bundled with the froyo update. all conjecture.

This is for the galaxy s.... IN SPAIN. This does not apply to people with the vibrant. I would assume the U.S. is more of a priority to Samsung, therefore froyo should be out before then.

Well, Samsung is a Korean company first off. Second of all, carriers don't lock/change their handsets like the US does, so it gets much easier to update when you take the carrier out of the equation. This is why Europe/Asia get new phones and the updates for those phones before the US.
That is just how it is.

And simply by the first launch day, US version of the Galaxy S is much later than the regular i9000, so it is not hard to guess the U.S. variants would get it later than the international version.

But I'm sure once we get Froyo the same people will be complaining that we don't have Gingerbread yet because the Nexus 1 is getting it in December.

Damn straight! I wish I were mod, then I could lock each and every thread about Froyo.
Lol whats funny is that engadget also reported that the UK Offical Samsung Mobile twitter page reported that
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/08/t-mobile-says-samsung-gps-fix-coming-in-september/
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/08/samsung-testing-gps-fix-for-galaxy-s-phones/
See two pieces of proof something is coming in September, we still have 10 days so lets see what happens.
So We do have like 3 Dates if you want to call it that.
One is September 23, 2010 for Froyo (2.2) which is supposibly for the International Galaxy S. Maybe it'll be compatible with all. Who Knows?
Two is September 29, 2010 for Froyo (2.2) which is for Galaxy S, IDK if all phones or Just International. IDK. I got this date from T-Mobile TODAY. I Called acted like i didnt know Anything about Android and was asking questions about The Samsung Vibrant. The guy said it comes with Android 2.1 but it'll get Android 2.2 soon. I asked if he knew a date, he said hes not for sure but he Read on a Forum somewhere about September 29, 2010. We'll See.
Three is Late October 2010. Which was told TODAY by Samsung Spain and posted on Engadget. So we have 10 days til September is over we'll see what happens. Thats all i know for now.
I'm Really eager like the rest of you to find out when our phones will get 2.2. Not only for Speed Improvement but for GPS Fixes (if implemented), 3 button hardware fix (if implemented) and of course Flash 10, Chome to Phone, the New G-Mail, Google Voice, and Tethering etc.
As eager as I am to get Froyo, I'd rather wait a little longer and let Samsung do it right than have them push something that's been rushed and running like crap. Based on the recent leaks I've seen, the most current Froyo builds have been buggy and not optimized at all.
I think late October/early November is my limit though. If they push it back further, I'm not supporting Samsung anymore. I'll switch to the G2. I can trust HTC will for sure push Gingerbread over to that phone. Who knows what Samsung will do with the Galaxy S then.
Fanboys need to stfu. You do realize many of us have buggy devices, and the fixes are being held up for froyo, right?
Dom't be idiots. Use your brains. The OS is a small issue right now. We want oir phones to work as advertised.
Yes, these buggy devices ARE complete and utter crap.

As ususal, Engadget gets it wrong. They can't even read a press release, and never bothered to pick up the phone and call Samsung. This announcement was datelined from London and about the UK, which is clear from its context.
See also this thread in Vibrant forum.
p.s. As recently as a few minutes ago, Samsung's Galaxy S support site for the U.S. on Twitter was saying there is not ETA for Froyo on this side of the pond at all.
Deployment for the Epic is even more complicated than the rollout for the GSM-based variants in the U.S. If the Epic gets Froyo in November, I will be most pleasantly surprised.
one way or another it seems like typical samsung taking forever to release an update

I'm inclined to believe this since Rogers in Canada is saying their version of the Captivate will get Froyo in 2011. If Froyo was ready in 2010, everywhere else in the world, why would Rogers tell their customers to expect it in 2011?

What? You want to wait until 2012 to get a new OS update?
What does 2.2 offer that you can't have on 2.1? I just don't see what the big deal is anyways. Is everyone that unsatisfied with their phone that they are getting bent out of shape about 2.2? This is Sprint and Samsung we are talking about right? I fully expect it to be here in January or February. I heard flash sucked with 2.2 but that's just me. Granted it's nice to have and it's something the I-suck doesn't have so that's always a plus.
Phone is plenty fast for me but I don't do anything extensive on it. Even when it drops I'll probably still wait a while to see if it's even worth it. Reading the Evo forums, it sounded like it was more trouble than it was worth and broke more things than fixed.

News from Samsung on Froyo

Samsung UK We know you are all eagerly awaiting the Froyo updates, and we appreciate your patience. The network testing of the Galaxy S Froyo upgrade is proceeding according to the schedule we released last week (we expect all UK customers to receive their upgrade by the end of November). We can confirm that the software we’re working on includes a solution to the Froyo Android Market issue which has been widely discussed.
http://www.facebook.com/roger.pitman#!/SamsungUK
Mmm, same thing on twitter.
Really not liking that 'end of Nov' part.
Just read this too, good news if they can keep to their word. Makes sense that they pulled it after the initial release to sort out the market issue, doesn't say about any other problems people have experienced but I guess they just want to get this out now and then tweak it more if necessary later.
We know the final build is done as they have released the japanese version with 2.2, so it must be about upgrading thats causing the problem. Just like people on here have said once they did a clean install it works pretty well, so they must want to make sure its ok when moving from eclair to froyo
End of november? Gasp
The nicest thing is, that market problem is not even related to the phone itself. My mate, who has a desire has the exact same problem with the market "download unsuccessful" problem....if this is what they are talking about...

The way samsung/sprint releases our updates are by month and date. So if DK28 stood for K=November (11th month of the year) and 11th letter of alphabet. And 28th means november 28. So EA11 means January 11. But there is no EA11 update known

They're not skipping Froyo, they're just this slow. Sometimes I wonder how many people they really have working on this project and at what priority it is.
Who needs sprint's official update to be honest? with as far along as all of these ROMs are, the official update will probably be lower quality.
Sprint has shown that HTC phones have priority over Samsung. It is sad that they only really care about supporting one of their flagship phones.
And we're definitely getting froyo next. It won't be this month. I doubt it will be at the beginning of February. I'm just hoping that they actually get it out in February.
And can you imagine if they skipped to gingerbread? It would take them at least another six months, if not closer to a year at the rate they work.
I was told by Samsung rep that gingerbread was ready for the galaxy s phones and they are hoping the cell providers will skip froyo or release it shortly after. I was also told it is all in the hands of the cell providers. Of course you can't believe everything your told.

Well, Froyo for the base GalaxyS came out last year. September to be exact. It's not like they just released Froyo 2 months ago... It just took until February for them to port it to most other "custom" GalaxyS devices (like the Vibrant).
Hopefully it won't take as long for the porting process to work again.
I know I saw somewhere that T-Mobile said that they would be faster when it comes to updates. Hopefully this is true, and we get Gingerbread. I don't care if they put touchwiz on there, because as soon as the source code is released, HELLO custom ROM's, and CM7 stable.
If they just put it on mini kies then all will be great if they do release it to the vibrant thats how we will be able to get it anyway.
For the US versions, see u in 2012
Ginger bread 2 months after they release S2 here I figure that would be August or Sept............ but then, i am an optimist
pfft... 2012 guess is too inaccurate
I have insider info that they are going to release it at 11:59:59:999
And one milisecond after they release the earth will get sucked up by a black hole...
And it turns out that the update was an accidental leak, and that all the bricked vibrants caused the black hole... due to all the Samoled screen displaying black
