We don't even really have kies in U.S. On top of that if its UK only it will just sit there like previous froyo rom that was leaked.

Yea obviously you didn't look before posting your thread.

This is for the galaxy s.... IN SPAIN. This does not apply to people with the vibrant. I would assume the U.S. is more of a priority to Samsung, therefore froyo should be out before then.

why US is more priority,

would you expect Tmobile will do a quick job in modifying it?

Why wouldn't the United States be more of a priority? I didn't even think anyone would have to think about that one.

Well, Samsung is a Korean company first off. Second of all, carriers don't lock/change their handsets like the US does, so it gets much easier to update when you take the carrier out of the equation. This is why Europe/Asia get new phones and the updates for those phones before the US.
That is just how it is.

Just remember that we only make up a small portion of the world and also that the galaxy s came out before the vibrant. It makes more sense for samsung to update that first.

Fixed that for you...

And simply by the first launch day, US version of the Galaxy S is much later than the regular i9000, so it is not hard to guess the U.S. variants would get it later than the international version.

Holy crap will everyone just shut up about Froyo. Enjoy the damn phone that you have. Its not like our phones are piles of crap. People are making Froyo out to be some mythical unicorn update. But I'm sure once we get Froyo the same people will be complaining that we don't have Gingerbread yet because the Nexus 1 is getting it in December.

Damn straight! I wish I were mod, then I could lock each and every thread about Froyo.

Lol whats funny is that engadget also reported that the UK Offical Samsung Mobile twitter page reported that
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/08/t-mobile-says-samsung-gps-fix-coming-in-september/
http://www.tmonews.com/2010/08/samsung-testing-gps-fix-for-galaxy-s-phones/
See two pieces of proof something is coming in September, we still have 10 days so lets see what happens.

So We do have like 3 Dates if you want to call it that.
One is September 23, 2010 for Froyo (2.2) which is supposibly for the International Galaxy S. Maybe it'll be compatible with all. Who Knows?
Two is September 29, 2010 for Froyo (2.2) which is for Galaxy S, IDK if all phones or Just International. IDK. I got this date from T-Mobile TODAY. I Called acted like i didnt know Anything about Android and was asking questions about The Samsung Vibrant. The guy said it comes with Android 2.1 but it'll get Android 2.2 soon. I asked if he knew a date, he said hes not for sure but he Read on a Forum somewhere about September 29, 2010. We'll See.
Three is Late October 2010. Which was told TODAY by Samsung Spain and posted on Engadget. So we have 10 days til September is over we'll see what happens. Thats all i know for now.
I'm Really eager like the rest of you to find out when our phones will get 2.2. Not only for Speed Improvement but for GPS Fixes (if implemented), 3 button hardware fix (if implemented) and of course Flash 10, Chome to Phone, the New G-Mail, Google Voice, and Tethering etc.

As eager as I am to get Froyo, I'd rather wait a little longer and let Samsung do it right than have them push something that's been rushed and running like crap. Based on the recent leaks I've seen, the most current Froyo builds have been buggy and not optimized at all.
I think late October/early November is my limit though. If they push it back further, I'm not supporting Samsung anymore. I'll switch to the G2. I can trust HTC will for sure push Gingerbread over to that phone. Who knows what Samsung will do with the Galaxy S then.

Fanboys need to stfu. You do realize many of us have buggy devices, and the fixes are being held up for froyo, right?
Dom't be idiots. Use your brains. The OS is a small issue right now. We want oir phones to work as advertised.
Yes, these buggy devices ARE complete and utter crap.

At the earliest most likely... patience Lil grasshopper
samsung is holding an event on the 16th to show off the media hub on the galaxy s phones and to show off some new models. I'd expect them to make an official announcement then since they've been rather quiet recently.
Some tmo rep said the same thing. End of this month. He also had to mention the g2 end of this month too. Kinda wondered should have I waited

eh, the G2 isn't much of an upgrade over the slide so I'd say you made the right choice.
Well with verizon's version of the galaxy s out, i think there is nothing to hold a massive upgrade to all versions back.
given that the tab is going to be running froyo real soon, the galaxy s phones shouldn't be that far behind. in fact, i think they should get the update first, but hey, what do i know
is this the latest update we'll get? will we be getting 3.0?

considering the number of devices sold, we'll probably get 3.0
Gingerbread would be great and a good pr move on the part of samsung. My expectation is low though simply because they will want people to buy new phones. Gingerbread will be an easy upgrade too because out would be vanilla with touchwiz and widgets being addons. The Tab has similar hardware and it may get it, making a custom ROM likely.

Last I checked, Samsung hasn't actually offered a phone to 100 carriers around the planet, including all 4 US national carriers.
As long as a single large American carrier demands the next version of Android, we ALL will get it.
I don't see the connection between froyo and the gps fix. If it was an android fix then we should have a fix already, I expect it is firmware based.

anyone whining bout the gps fix needs to check out rooting and flashing eugenes vibrant 9 rom, ive made this comment like 15 times buuuuuut. i get a lock within 10meters in only 10 seconds with the gps on and the cell tower assist feature on. no nead to play around in Lbstestmode menus just turn on location settings in the menu open maps and find "my location"... and this is inside my apartment....
I cant wait for ALL the bonuses in 2.2 like flash and included wifi tethering but do we really need to make a million threads about it??? lol

For all of you people saying we wont get Froyo

I was browsing Samsung's Official Twitter & They posted this link: http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/29/samsung-says-all-galaxy-s-phones-will-get-android-2-2/
Samsung has mercifully confirmed at an event in New York this evening that all Galaxy S versions -- including the Captivate, Epic 4G, Vibrant, and Fascinate -- will be receiving updates to Android 2.2 Froyo later this year and offer compatibility with Flash 10.1. All of the devices will be shipping with Android 2.1 out of the gate, so considering that Froyo's already launched, we're sure there'll be no shortage of pressure to get the updates fast-tracked. Sprint says it won't be a long wait on the Epic, but otherwise, we don't have any time frames at this point.
So for the people who said "My cousins, brothers, dog said we won't get Froyo.." Well just Read & Weep

So I don't think them saying prior to release the Galaxy S will get an upgrade is gospel in any way as you seem to be putting it.
Still, I don't think there's more than 1 or 2 people here or really don't think we'll ever get 2.2.
It's just how long they'll take and the longer they take, the more people's trust they'll lose.

This is OLD info that doesnt really reflect any recent information. Since JUNE there have been alot of delays, and like I said in another thread, the galaxy s is still selling like crazy, so why would samsung put money into development when it doesnt have to? To please people who already gave them their money?
How about "to please their japanese customer base." Their Galaxy S phones just today hit the island of the rising sun today. They've sold 5 million of them thus far. They have no option but to upgrade us.
The froyo rom for the original Galaxy S is leaked alriady. Not to mention that Adobe has the captivate as one of the "coming soon supported devices" in their 10.1 supported mobile devices page.
ON the other hand, tmo might screw us over a little.

Seriously as much as I'm pissed about not having froyo myself, it's not just us that got jerked around. If I remember HTC incredible users were being told froyo would be released for them in Julyish and they just received it in September. So if we were told September 23 which I believe wasn't specific to the vibrant then we should know it's not just us getting jerked around not just Samsung or t mobile.

As ususal, Engadget gets it wrong. They can't even read a press release, and never bothered to pick up the phone and call Samsung. This announcement was datelined from London and about the UK, which is clear from its context.
See also this thread in Vibrant forum.
p.s. As recently as a few minutes ago, Samsung's Galaxy S support site for the U.S. on Twitter was saying there is not ETA for Froyo on this side of the pond at all.
Deployment for the Epic is even more complicated than the rollout for the GSM-based variants in the U.S. If the Epic gets Froyo in November, I will be most pleasantly surprised.
one way or another it seems like typical samsung taking forever to release an update

What? You want to wait until 2012 to get a new OS update?
What does 2.2 offer that you can't have on 2.1? I just don't see what the big deal is anyways. Is everyone that unsatisfied with their phone that they are getting bent out of shape about 2.2? This is Sprint and Samsung we are talking about right? I fully expect it to be here in January or February. In the mean time, I will enjoy my Epic with 2.1 Which is still better than the Evo on 2.2, imho.

I heard flash sucked with 2.2 but that's just me. Granted it's nice to have and it's something the I-suck doesn't have so that's always a plus.
Phone is plenty fast for me but I don't do anything extensive on it. Even when it drops I'll probably still wait a while to see if it's even worth it. Reading the Evo forums, it sounded like it was more trouble than it was worth and broke more things than fixed.

Yeah I went to the Sprint store when I went and bought my case for my Epic and messed around with an Evo..be it a display, and they had a screen protector on it, the screened looked REALLY grainy, and it was very very slow. I'm guessing it hadn't been restarted in awhile and had every app open on it running in the background. I checked it and sure enough it was running on 2.2.

[Q] 2.2 is out? Verizon Customer service says so

I just got off the phone with Verizon Wireless Customer Service. I was questioning about setting changes to improve my signal strength. She said there was nothing she knew of. I then asked if she knew if the 2.2 update would bring with it a new baseband to improve the signal strength. She then said, well it is available for download, go ahead and download it and see. However, I am not in an area to do that. I am in Central Ohio, so I really have no idea if it is truely out or not!

It's been said multiple times in the past month that they will be coming out in November.
This from Samsung USA's twitter as well - "yes. all current Galaxy S phones in the USA will be upgraded to Android 2.2 this year."
Actually I'm pretty sure that it W's confirmed that the particular comment you are talking about DID NOT apply to the variants in the states. However I was just being sarcastic anyway. It doesn't really matter to me at this point as froyo from Samsung is literally going to suck ass because the one thing that kills these phones is the one thing a firmware update wont fix, and that's RFS. Anyway, good day sir. Hope you are correct, that way we can get some good froyo ROMS rollin
Edit: actually, I don't recall that anyone anywhere has stated specifically that our phones will get it in November. And I am positive that u will find nothing specific to the fascinate. Anyway. Not flaming, just stating the facts.

"The Galaxy S series will be getting 2.2 Froyo in November, starting in Europe and over time pushing west." - Not sure if this includes the US, but I assume it does. Paraphrased.
edit: Unfortunately I can't read. Your post said this already, so I guess I'm part of the redundant department of redundancy.

It was a direct quote from Samsung's Twitter. What else could "yes. all current Galaxy S phones in the USA will be upgraded to Android 2.2 this year." mean?
It can't mean ANYTHING else other than the Samsung Galaxy S phones released in the USA with all the popular carriers.

True. And this is all moot speculation anyway. When Froyo was debuted at I/O, afterwards Google tweeted about the rollout occurring over the next few months. less than 15 hours later I pulled down a rooted OTA courtesy of Cyanogen. lol.
It should be sometime between now and Christmas.

It never actually said US. that is the point I'm trying to make, it only said UK. I'm not at all trying to start a flame war just trying to keep you from getting high hopes only to be let down. I hope that u r right. Man do I ever hope that u r right.

How is this only the UK? They may not have said November, but by the end of the year is fine by me.

Gosh man. I'm not trying to start a fight nor am I saying u r wrong. However as I have stated multiple times. NO WHERE does it say "Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce that the android 2.2 froyo update is available for ur fascinate" nor have any of their tweets mentioned it.
Edit: all galaxy s variants doesn't mean fascinate. Call Samsung itself and ask they will tell u they know nothing.
Edit: sorry just saw where u said end of year. Not November. All good. Last Samsung phone ill ever buy.

Sammy says Froyo for Vibrant in November, right?

Will it happen?
Really........i don't care much anymore I'm already running 2.2 actually I wish it was already out so I could stop hearing about it but then it will just become about 2.3
Still flashing , thanks to odin
I haven't seen SamsungUSA officially state that 2.2 would appear in November for the US Galaxy S series yet.

Yes, I do think we'll have Froyo by November.......2011.
MODs
please create an Update Status section and move all these threads over there.
Does it really matter? we have had froyo for quite awhile now and I am sure the custom roms we have available are better than the bloatware infested stock that we would get from any official release. I couldn't care less if sammy ever releases froyo at this point.
apparently we're getting the real deal today, nov 30th, and if not, tomarrow via kies. T-Mobile: Samsung Galaxy S getting FroYo
Froyo has already been around for the Vibrant, what is needed is the 2.2 kernel source so the devs can optimize that and work out the small bugs like the 3.5mm jack for phone calls in Froyo...

WTF are you taking about... That's for the Europe version
Gesh!
i lol'd. links to tmobile uk.
It's unreal how many people on this forum can't read! Wow.
We do not live in Europe, people!
k, jeese forgot those people existed in my excitement and overlooked that (minor) detail.
EDIT: but still..
Take this with a grain of salt, it's up to you whether you believe it or not but.
Adobe Website lists Fascinate Froyo update as "Coming Soon".
http://www.adobe.com/flashplatform/supported_devices/smartphones.html
It is a pretty well updated list with Galaxy Tab and G2 included in the mix.

Even the people who couldn't read should have been able to look at the pictures in the linked article which clearly show the three button (instead of 4) i9000 Galaxy S device.
DUDE use the ****ing search or google or something and wise your ass up, these threads are getting stupid as hell opening every single day. IF you want froyo then FLASH IT, why do you think the stock one will be that good? it will have lag from the RFS system, no root, chances are the ones that are out now are just as good as sammys or better, and will only improve when the real one comes out.
t-Mobile UK already delayed the Release of Froyo to it's customers. No reason given, but It was supposed to be released via Kies yesterday and no one go it. So a few sources are saying it is/will be delayed yet again.
Samsung told me the other day on Twitter that, "it's coming soon" that same BS, and they actually told me they were "abandoning" the Galaxy S phones (after I said they were...). Then I asked about if we would actually really see it before the end of December and they assured me we would.
I call BS on anything they say anymore about updates, we won't see 2.2 (OFFICIALLY) from T-Mobile or Samsung by the end of this year.

What do you mean abandoning the galaxy s line? You have to provide proof or it didn't happen.
