there are froyo leaks so i doubt they wouldve abandoned froyo also they are strugling to upgrade other galaxy s devices to froyo...so no gingerbread anytime soon officially atleast
I doubt we will see gingerbread anytime soon, if at all. dk28 is almost stable enough for prime time, so I am not sure what is taking them so long.
Except the nexus s has a completely different radio.

Estimated arrival maybe?

The way samsung/sprint releases our updates are by month and date. So if DK28 stood for K=November (11th month of the year) and 11th letter of alphabet. And 28th means november 28. So EA11 means January 11. But there is no EA11 update known

They're not skipping Froyo, they're just this slow. Sometimes I wonder how many people they really have working on this project and at what priority it is.
Who needs sprint's official update to be honest? with as far along as all of these ROMs are, the official update will probably be lower quality.
Sprint has shown that HTC phones have priority over Samsung. It is sad that they only really care about supporting one of their flagship phones.
And we're definitely getting froyo next. It won't be this month. I doubt it will be at the beginning of February. I'm just hoping that they actually get it out in February.
And can you imagine if they skipped to gingerbread? It would take them at least another six months, if not closer to a year at the rate they work.
I was told by Samsung rep that gingerbread was ready for the galaxy s phones and they are hoping the cell providers will skip froyo or release it shortly after. I was also told it is all in the hands of the cell providers. Of course you can't believe everything your told.

Just cause out wasn't leaked it don't mean its not there. Cause of the b/s that happened with dk28 the person providing the leaks decided not to give us another leak. We have missed 3 versions that I know of so far. DL11, EA06, and now EA11

That is when Samsung releases it. It still needs T-Mobile approval.
No one has said October, this is purely speculation. I'm assuming we will hear more at IFA, which starts Septemer 2. Samsung will have a large presence at the event and promises many big announcements. I expect froyo and gps updates to be among these announcements.

Doubt that. IFA is more of an electronics showcase event. Not really a mobile phone event like Mobile Congress held in Spain.

I would have to say that is incorrect.. 2.2 is actually "coming soon" and even though they have constantly said that without a date, I still believe it would be in September.
There was a tweet from I believe Samsung's Official Twitter that I cannot find at the moment but stated we would see 2.2 in up to 8 weeks, which September would make sense, unless it came out earlier. Do not hold me on this, as I cannot find the tweet to confirm.
I am also sure the fix will probably come with 2.2 and if not, 2.2 will not be far behind it the GPS fix if they did it for 2.1 and then released 2.2, once it meets T-Mobile's approval which I doubt will take long.
Just read tweets like this, and I would myself take a guess that September we could likely see the 2.2 Froyo update to our phones.

Seems like general consensus is that froyo OTA updates will start coming out in september with some or many people actually getting the update in October. one rumor states that fixes to gps and lag, etc, will be bundled with the froyo update. all conjecture.

what can we do ? wait.. creating thread over thread about this will not speed up the release.. If it did we would of had Froyo weeks ago

No, Froyo isn't coming out. It never will. T-Mobile will never get Froyo out because they like Gingerbread better. It tastes better. It's all about the taste, not the features.
Why would anyone look forward to Samsung's 2.2 release? Considering where you are posting this topic, obviously you have used or at least thought about using alternative roms. CM 6.1 is being worked on, why would you care for OTA release?
becasue some ppl likes it "stock" but apparently, tmo and sammy's fridge is out of froyo.

Well, Froyo for the base GalaxyS came out last year. September to be exact. It's not like they just released Froyo 2 months ago... It just took until February for them to port it to most other "custom" GalaxyS devices (like the Vibrant).
Hopefully it won't take as long for the porting process to work again.
I know I saw somewhere that T-Mobile said that they would be faster when it comes to updates. Hopefully this is true, and we get Gingerbread. I don't care if they put touchwiz on there, because as soon as the source code is released, HELLO custom ROM's, and CM7 stable.
If they just put it on mini kies then all will be great if they do release it to the vibrant thats how we will be able to get it anyway.
For the US versions, see u in 2012
Ginger bread 2 months after they release S2 here I figure that would be August or Sept............ but then, i am an optimist
pfft... 2012 guess is too inaccurate
I have insider info that they are going to release it at 11:59:59:999
And one milisecond after they release the earth will get sucked up by a black hole...
And it turns out that the update was an accidental leak, and that all the bricked vibrants caused the black hole... due to all the Samoled screen displaying black

Until it officially comes to the U.S. eventually? With how long the 2.2 update took I'm really nervous we'd never get an update but if they're already rolling out across Europe... anyone know anything else? I'm getting my Fascinate on Friday!!!

Nothing to flash, it's an OTA update. The link is just a link to the Engadget story. And looks like GB 2.3.3 is being pushed out not 2.3.4. Don't know the difference, but I know there is a 2.3.4 out there.

its so ridiculous how fast manufacturers push out new devices. yay you have the latest and greatest! and you just shat all over everyone who's had your phone for a year. wtf man. ha. i had an eris, and really don't think this phone should ever be in the same boat as that phone. never should've bought that eris, should've gone straight to the Droid 1. so does no one do GSM to CDMA conversions? They did a couple for my Eris (thank you punk.kaos) and for the Droid 1, the "Mobile Networks" option was usually the only thing not working eventually. I'm new the fascinate, actually not getting mine till tomorrow, but I'm really eager to get a truly open phone. my droid 2 was killing me bro. oh well, so long as we get gingerbread eventually. and honestly if CM7 is ready before the end of June, who needs an OTA? If we get an official GB update then JT will likely be able to pull a lot of things from it to fix our issues on VGB/CM7/MIUI such as sensors, call audio, torch, ect... anything that doesn't work right or has issues, if it is fixed in an official release, can probably be fixed from the official release.
Problem is, anybody that has been around with this phone for a while is not even pretending to get their hopes up for an official release. If it ever comes (which is doubtful) then it likely won't be any time soon. Not saying there is no chance, but we willl all be pleasantly surprised if Samsung and Verizon actually released something when they said they would.
I've had this phone since the day it came out. I've followed the promises & rumors, most of which have been rumors that are spread as fact, quickly.
From what I've seen, whenever Samsung has talked about an update, it's because they've finished it and given it to Verizon for testing. Usually around the same time, someone on here or another site gets a leaked version (makes you wonder if they're leaked intentionally and we're used as beta testers). From what I understand, and I could be wrong, Froyo was rejected by Verizon a few times, delaying the update. I don't know if it was a problem with the software itself or the update package, or both. We all knew Froyo was coming because we already had earlier versions, I ran EB01 for quite awhile before ED01.
I don't have any reason to doubt we're getting GB. We've already seen a leaked version, EC09. I tried it and lost an SD card so I see why it wasn't "officially" released.
I could be wrong, but from past experience, if SamsungSSupport is saying they hope to have some news soon, I interpret it as they have given another GB version to Verizon that they hope to be or has been approved by Verizon. After the missed call issues, I expect Verizon to test a little more thorough this time.

Verizon rejected it because Samsung, the greedy jerks they are, wanted verizon to pay them a bunch of money for the "r&d" done to screw it up with touchwiz... if I remember right samsung was asking for way more than any other carriers usually do for updates and so verizon said no.

After the Froyo fiasco (anyone else contact their April fool?) and working 5+ years in a corporate multi-vendor environment, I find it impossible to pick sides in such situations.
