Is there a way to mount the phone while in Bootloader mode? - HD2 General

I just ran a task29 on my phone and before flashing my new ROM I want to change the splashscreen as its one from Chuckydroid ROM and task29 doesnt delete bootup screen or splash screens. So is there a way to mount while in USB. I know the PC is making some sort of mount since I'm able to flash a new ROM but I cant find where

splash screens flash in exactly the same way as roms and radios, via an nbh file and customruu, and yes you can flash all three from bootloader. no, you won't see anything mounted, you can't access the memory from bootloader.

upgrading to new radio without fastboot?

my phone is an htc magic 32A, i am currently on old radio and spl and amon_ra recovery for sapphire.
my usb connection has been dead for a while now, but i can still charge my phone. i use terminal for most things and root explorer so no need for adb or fastboot as much. but anyways, is there a way to flash the new radio (6.35), spl, and recovery without fastboot?
what i know:
1. i can flash new radio & spl through update.zip files through recovery, i've done it before with old radio and spl many times fine.
2. i can flash new recovery using terminal with phone on, this is fine i do many times too.
however, this is the problem, correct me if i'm wrong, you have to flash all 3 at same time right? in recovery mode, i can only flash radio and spl no recovery, but in terminal i can only flash recovery, not the other two.
is there a way around this that i dont know about? is fastbooting the only way?
I tried flashing the new recovery first and then booting into it to flash radio and spl but that dont work hehe. i dont think i can flash new radio and spl first using the current recovery image since cursor said in his thread if you flash radio and spl, the phone will keep rebooting because of the wrong recovery. since i cannot fastboot, this will pretty much kill my phone since i wont be able to boot it up to flash proper recovery image.
-------------------EDIT
cursordroid is helping me with this problem. for those interested check out his how-to guide in the dev section as that's where he posted a reply to me. hopefully his solution works, will see tomorrow.
Hi,
I've read a bit and i would like to share my understanding with you. Correct me if i'm wrong:
- The SPL is the boot code that allow the usage of fastboot commands and is there to actually boot the rom stored on the phone. As long as you have a correct SPL, you should be able to push a recovery-RA image trough USB into memory and boot with this code.
- The recovery image on the phone is a specific partition that is trigerred when you use the volume down and poweron button. I've got the impression that the vol-down and poweron instructs the spl to use the recovery partition. I'm not sure of this
If you are able to flash the recovery image (the Hero one) via terminal then from the pc using the command : fastboot boot recovery-RA-saphire-v1.5.2h, you shoudl normally get access to sdcard and flash the update_radio.zip then update_spl.zip.
I'm not sure of one thing: Does updating radio and updating spl should happen at the same time ? Can we do this by flash first the radio, reboot, fastboot boot then flash the spl ? As there is a reboot in between, wHat happens if the radio is newer than the spl ? Do we still have access to the fastoot mode ?
About your statement: "if you flash radio and spl, the phone will keep rebooting because of the wrong recovery." --> Where have you seen this ?
Cedric
Thanks but I Know about fastbooting and do it often but The problem is I cannot use usb fastboot anymore. Theres something wrong with my devices usb port. Please read the thread title and my post once more. If i can use my usb then fast boot is easy, I wouldn't have made this thread haha.
About the last statement it can be found in cursordroids thread about upgrading the radio.

[Q] Boot loops

I wanted to reflash my DHD with Leedroid Rom again and I went to Rom manager and selected flash rom and the phone rebooted but then it got stuck in boot loops and its still stuck there. I can access hboot but not recovery. What can I do? Please help!
Anyone? Please help me, I can't use my phone?
Power the phone off and plug the charger in. Wait a few seconds and see if it loads into recovery. Flashing a rom should not have affected recovery partition at all. If that doesn't work and you have eng hboot s-off you can try manually reflashing recovery via fastboot. If that doesn't work you will have to flash an ruu via pd98img.zip method and start again from scratch.
Sent from my performance enhanced Desire HD.
Thank you so much for replying. The charger method didnt work. I have thought about the pd98img.zip method but before doing that I would like to try out the manually flashing the rom via fastboot but I havent been able to find any info on how to that, do you have a link or something to a small guide of sorts? I am not so experienced in that area, I do know how to open terminal emulaters and such but not on what to write and all that.

Possible Bricked

So, got a phone here from a friend, gave it to me and said i could keep it whether it works or not.
info... doesn't boot normal.
goes into bootloader, and fastboot works. recovery doesn't work.
booting normal DID allow ADB interface access, though with a black screen, until I tried to reflash stock boot.img through fastboot, now no adb.
so, I need to know how to check if an img flashed through fastboot is sticking, and i would like to find img files for flashing a ROM through fastboot.
btw, if internal memory is bonked, is it possible to get it booting off of an SD card?
Check Glacier Wiki, section "Troubleshooting". Link in my signature.
If you build a custom kernel that will boot it off SD card - you'll be able to boot off SD card. You'll need to partition it, of course.
If boot partition (where kernel resides) is screwed - you don't have much to do...

Because you can't flash radios from recovery, only from bootloader. its a windows mobile phone, not an android phone.
conceptually, the "lower" the level of the tool/utility used, the more access it has to the various NAND regions.
(LOWEST LEVEL) the bootloader (tri-color screen) has access to nearly ALL NAND regions...so it can flash the following:
1. splash screens
2. radio
3. rest of NAND
(NEXT LEVEL) MAGLDR has access to only (3) above...so it can create partitions in there, one of which will contain recovery.
(FINAL LEVEL) recovery has access to the partitions created by MAGLDR, so recovery can flash:
1. another recovery
2. ROM that resides in the /system and /data partitions
hope that clarifies things further.

" x " appears on the screen

Malfunction " x " appears on the screen !! help me what is going on
Haha... you'll need more information than that if you want real help.
Based on the limited information though I suspect your phone is stuck in a bootloop. I'd hook it up to the PC via USB and check the logcat. Probably something screwed up.. Maybe time to restore your latest backup.
Did you flash any ROM if so, did you clean your Dalvic+REgular Cache
If you don't have an Recovery:
- Connect your Micro SD on PC
- Download and insert on SD the stock ROM of your Nexus One
- Power ON your Nexus with Volume Down Pressed.
- Autmotically Restore Nexus (You should say Yes xD)
At this time, you decide if you want to be root and install other ROM
you better just list your setup info before doing anything
locked/unlocked bootloader
rooted/unrooted
which recovery are you using
what rom are you running stock/custom
what were you doing when this happened
a couple safe things you can do in meantime is to pull battery and reinsert and power on
if it goes back to X, pull battery and DO NOT power on. Hold down the pwr button and trackball at same time and see if you can get into recovery
the third is hold down trackball/vol-/power at same time while X is on screen and see if you can get to recovery that way
if you can't get to recovery you will need to fastboot new recovery, assuming you are unlocked
once you get into recovery do a nandroid if you are rooted
and copy it to pc as a secondary backup
it is possible you may need to try the passimg method in wiki
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Nexus_One/Guides_&_Tutorials#Unroot_.2F_Restore_your_Nexus
also to do fastboot commands you need usb debugging selected on phone--hope it is
Hello, i have a similar problem with my n1
the phone starts and just shows the nexus X - (waited for 15 min. nothing happend)
i can go to the bootloader / fastboot menu with PWR + (Vol-) but i can not go to the recovery mode. -> the phone reboots and get stuck at the X
the phone is rooted
blackrose / hboot 7.35.5017
radio 5.12.00.08
recovery was ext4
i had a german ics miui rom installed and tryed to install the latest ics miui us rom after it didn't booted the miui us rom i turned the phone off and tryed a few hours later to turn it on to reflash the german ics miui rom.
1.)
i tryed to install a new recovery image ->
recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-passion &
recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1
(still get stuck at the X if i try to go to recovery mode)
2.)
i tryed this one with the passimg.zip but nothing happens if i put in the sd card :/
(with nothing i mean the green text show that the sd card is checking for PASSDIAG.zip and PASSIMG.zip but dosn't found it)
i also tryed:
3.)
erased boot
flash boot from passimg.zip (PASSIMG_Passion_Google_WWE_2.18.1700.1_FRG83_release_signed)
4.)
erased cache
erased userdata
started again with 1.)
5.)
got frustrated and erased system -.-
any ideas?
study it ,thank you
study it ,thank you
Hmm, sorry if its obvious but i have no idea what it could be or what i have to search to find the solution. Would be nice if you could give me a hint. Of course im not asking for a step by step solution. Thank you.
Send from my awesome SE K800i
not sure why you are flashing boot images
do you have a nandroid--copy your sdcard with the nandroid to pc--all of sdcard
are you flashing thru fastboot in command window
did you read my post above on getting to the fastboot screen--can you do that--the one with the 3 androids
pwr/vol-/trackball same time, may take 20-30 seconds
if you can get there, put your recovery image in your fastboot folder on pc, normally tools--assuming you have sdk installed, your phone must have usb debugging checked--I hope
open a command window and change directory to the tools folder or wherever the fastboot.exe file is. Something like:
cd/
cd/ android/android-sdk-windows/tools for me
then on same line type
fastboot devices (it should show your phone H#)
fastboot erase system
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (or the exact name of the recovery image, checked by right clicking on the img file in your tools folder and looking under properties)
I would use amonra you listed above and check the md5 if possible
hopefully the recovery will flash
if not you can go to the wiki link i posted above and try passimg metthod from there, use correct one. don't add the .zip. Windows will had it automatically.
a side note, DON"T flash different roms without wiping all including System 3 times before flashing--prevents a lot of problems
