I just received a text from t-mobile this morning saying that the g2 is
coming to tmobile. along with a link.
g2.t-mobile.com where you can sign up for updates in the up coming weeks.
I know there's been talk of a g2 for a while now, I was just wondering is
anyone knows anything about this.

Just went to your link and tried to sign up, put in my name, email address, said I'm currently on t-mobile, and then it asked for my phone number. I put it in and clicked submit and I got an error as though my phone number was wrong. That changed the other fields, too.

Ah, that would be the HTC VISION
Specifications are mostly subject to speculation, however we DO know that it gets a REAL KEYBOARD and has track-dot (whatever they're called -- rather than a mechanical ball), and should have some MIND BLOWING specifications, possibly including a DUAL CORE CPU (and we KNOW that Qualcomm has been shipping them to HTC) and probably 3G-world so that the same actual hardware will run on ALL the different networks (i.e. tmobile/wind AND att/robbers).
i will be happy if it has a full qwerty kb, 5 row. none of this nonsense 4 row kbs.

Looks a lot like this:
Just looking at the pictures, they both have the same placement on the camera key on the left, and also the same style rounded corners. Plus they seem to be of similar thickness. I hope that I'm mistaken though, I would much rather hope for the keyboarded vision then a big screen mytouch.
I'm actually thinking my G1's successor will be the myTouch 3G HD, unless they mess it up. Last I heard, it'll have Espresso Sense.. but I may be able to put up with that. I don't think I'd mind not having a hardKB anymore.

A fifth row is irrelevant.
The problem with crap keyboard layouts isn't in the number of rows, it is in the key placements. The idiot layouts with the QAZ keys directly in-line vertically are horrid. As long as the key offsets are correct, the board will be fine.
And FYI: the fifth row is just for the numbers. Some special reason you can't push "alt"?

I'm dissapointed to see the successor for the G1 has been keyboardless for the second time around, first the hero (g2 in europe) and now that ugly thing...
Nope, check engadget, phandroid, gizmodo...they all got the same pictures. the G2 will be the nexus one enterprise that was shown like a year ago..such a dissapointment really. The G1 was such a game changer, was hoping its successor would be also.
to everyone that hates on the 4 row keyboard, hit alt twice, put the numbers in, hit it once more and move on. and enjoy having keyboard keys bigger than an 1/8th of an inch. /rant.

Just to cash in on the keyboard thing, the G1's keys aren't tiny, they're pretty much perfect. I've never been happier with a phone keyboard. It's all in design though. These new phones are all 3 or 4 row because they don't have the design of the G1, which uses pretty much the entire size of the phone for its keyboard.
Back more on topic though, I just checked out the new pics of it. Another odd keyboard mechanism, probably one of the only similarities between the G1 and G2 xP

I believe the g2 will be a dumped down nexus one with keyboard. And that's mainly because its going to be tmobile branded. But we will see what happens. I'm still trying to get a nexus tho

I can palm a basketball no problem, the G1's keys are tiny to me.
This G2 actually uses the whole length of the phone, much more area than the G1, hence the bigger keys. If this is stock 2.2(or higher) i might, might replace my g1

I like sense alot, so that would be great if it came with it. But i wish that it would come with a dual core processor. Or atleast a 1.2 ghz so it can atleast revolutionize the jump again. G1 did with first android, N1 did with first 1ghz, now hopefully the G2 can bump something up aswell. and yeah no front facing camera? damn... i'll probably wait for the project emerald if so.

UPDATE 2/14/09- HAHAHA!! I LAUGH AT THE VERY FIRST COMMENT POSTED!!!! IT SEEMS OUR DREAMS ARE COMING TRUE WITH THE NEW HTC MODELS LEAKED!!!!! So i guess all of our hard work and wishfull thinking has finally paid off. The only thing to really worry about now is whether HTC will hold true to the leaked hype and deliver to ATT a touch Hd variant with a full qwerty in true Iphone killer fashion. Update!!! Ok so ive been working on the 3D model for this concept. I finished pretty much everything i wanted to do. The look is there. hopefully someone over at HTC is checking these pics out. It took me a total of about 3 days to model out this phone. and it was fun to decide the final look. overall i would say it should be no thicker than the tilt. hopefully with new tech it will be thinner. aside from that i thought it would great if the front buttons were only visible when the screen was on, seeing as how they are not physical buttons. and maybe they could all be configurable to different icons, almost as if they were on a small led screen so you could give them a custom look. the camera is now flush with the back, which is how i think it should always be. maybe physical limitations are to blame for the official design. i hope all you guys like it. I might consider putting together some models of other concept phones in the future. maybe an Iphone with a slide out QWERTY k/b!! hehe. just kidding. who knows. hope you all like them.

For me it is a fake PS and this model will never happens.
I do not think that they are will release a qwerty model as it is directly competing against the iphone and they do not want it to be thick.

And after they got the keyboard attached they will add a fingerprint scanner, tv-tuner, wimax, surround sound speakers and hdmi.
I think this is already one of the best phones HTC ever built if it is as good as it looks. The only true iPhone-killer so far I think. Of course they can build a phone that suits everyone's needs but first of all they need to beat the competitiors before experimenting. I will probably buy it next year.
By the way, on the second picture in the lower part of the picture the keyboard is wider than the phone, so when you close it the keyboard will stick out on the other side.

That's the phone I'm waiting for. Why would the iphone have anything to do with holding back production of this type of phone. They could have the best of both worlds with the Touch HD (iphone killer for those people wanting it to be dead so bad) and the Touch HD Pro (for those people who really don't want to give up the use of a physical keyboard). That's how you could kill more than just the iphone. I'll be waiting.......hopefully this will be born someday.

I saw this on at least one other website and I don't recall them recognizing it was faked by way of wishful thinking.... doesn't take much to "start" a rumor does it.
i had a wizard and a trinity. My conclusion: the keyboard is not used all the times, and anyway too small for real typing. I bought a bluetooth keyboard but never used it....
The best PDA Fake I ever saw was done with a HP 4200 I think. They detached the touch screen from that tablet PC and hooked it up to the Dell X51v's VGA-out and claimed that HTC got a new supersize pocketpc / tablet-whatever thing. Very funny fake since they did it on video which made it look even more realistic.
If they would make a foldable version they could compete with the E90, that's a very very solid pda in that part of the business world: weight doesn't matter, just quality, size and funtionality.

The phone does look amazing, but the biggest drawback in my opinion is the same thing that made me purchase a Hero; "Sense" (even though I love it). Maybe HTC's OS release times will improve, but I'm not so sure it'll be worth waiting so long for them to update the UI every time a major OS update is released in the future. I think it'll be vanilla Android only, for me, from here on out. I just need something with that 4.3" screen

I have been really impressed with Android so far despite the fact that the Hero is "officially" still stuck on 1.5...
I'm still primarily a WinMo user (personal phone: Sprint Touch Pro running VetVito's newest ROM), but my work got my dept a Hero as a remote-support/on-call phone, which actually kind of backfired as we were expecting it would have VPN (the Sprint Rep told us it would), so I have been testing out the custom Hero ROMs trying to find one with functional VPN (i.e. 1.6/2.0/2.1). No luck yet, but there are a couple new ROMs out in the last few days that I haven't had a chance to try yet...
But in regard to my personal phone, I am really hoping that Sprint will have a phone w/ a larger screen by the time my upgrade comes back up in Feb. I would totally go for an Android phone, but being that I have been primarily a WinMo user since ~2001 I am pretty exited about WinMo 7 coming out, too bad they won't have any phones actually released until well after I will use my next upgrade...
But I am praying that Sprint will either get the Android 2.1 update for the Hero or another Android phone that comes with 2.1 by the time I upgrade, I really like the Hero but I am going to go with the most current OS I can...
And Snapdragon + a bigger screen would rock!
I agree...I don't want a phone bigger in size than my Hero, but I would like a full screen from top to bottom with smaller buttons, the buttons on the bottom and that stupid trackball could go and I'd be even happier...
I saw a Droid on the train I take home and there is no way I could carry that thing around all day.

Other than the Droid and Nexus 1, which phones have received a 2.x update?
HTC isn't any further behind the 8 ball than anyone else in this regard.

It looks like the Hero will actually end up being among the first, if not the first, to receive it.
No love for the trackball??? I personally love it...living in Denver I don't want to have to pull my gloves off to look at the widgets. I wouldn't mind an optical 'trackball'.
And for the size, I'm not sure yet if it's to big. I would love to check it out once it's out and see if it's pocketable and sized right for day to day use. My guess is that 4.3" is probably about as big as you'd ever want to go before it simply becomes a tablet...

It looks like a giant candybar! I have nothing against the Evo 4G nor the HD2 which I previously owned (I took it back! Found the recipt DJ!) but the enormous screens aren't for me. They just feel like their gonna snap with their extreme thiness, not to mention the battery life was bad on my hd2 due to a 1230 mah. But, the Evo and HD2 are fine, this thing is rediculous. It's longer than the rest and what's up with the mirrored finish around the screen? If you wanna make a 4.4 inch look bigger on a phone your insane!

The Samsung Galaxy S 1900 hummingbird chip or whatever is supposedly way faster than the snapdragon... I honestly have never heard of this phone before today lol.... I'm just not really a fan of motorolas.

Yea, no decently spec'd Android phone in a while that's GSM. I mean the Galaxy s thingamajig (I don't know what it's called) is the most advanced gsm we have right now, but unfortunately no HTC's since the desire! Where are you GSM devices with really good hardware and awesomeness eminating from you!
EDIT: ATT is getting a major advanced (im being sarcastic) Android HTC phone called the Aria!!!! Yay 2.8 inch screen with a 600 mhz processor!

Regarding the Droid X:
I don't think the EVO is too big, but it's pushing it. This thing is even bigger and the backwards chin would irritate the buhjezus out of me. That thing looks more like a multimedia device that includes a phone.
Of course I'm biased after several years of good service but I'm extremely pleased with Sprin't lineup lately. Not much to choose from but what they have is up there with the best of em, at least compared to what's available in the US

My guess is that the only reason they offer ANY android phones is because apple lets them in order to disguise their plans for world domination, and if they can get a few android people on board then they are at least a little closer to the iPhone and may one day opt for an iPhone when upgrade time rolls around.
AT&T offering android is like a consolation prize... it's more symbolic than anything.

I personally enjoy oversized screens, so I think the Droid X will be my next phone. I have a question, though -- will the phone have a decent modding community around it in the way that the EVO does? I realize that it's a difficult question to answer right now, but I'm very excited about getting a new phone (and rooting it).

If you use a cell phone in public and you don't care that other people are extremely annoyed at hearing you talk on your phone, get ready for my fist. HAHAHA, too funny. I would really hope that people have enough sense to use vidoe calling when and where it's intended (ie. at home, in the office. NOT on the subway, in a restaurant, etc..)
Alas I am sure there will be plenty of people that just can't stand for other people to see them on a regular old voice call when they could be seeing them on a video call on their awesome new phone.
Please, please, please if you end up feeding someone a knuckle sandwich for being on a video call in public have a friend catch it on video for our viewing pleasure

Im going to be eligible for an upgrade in October and I know others are waiting on theirs. Id like to know if you are going to upgrade, what are you planning to move to and why. Here is descriptions of both phones.

HTC 4G Evo Review
I can't stand the samsung phones, especially after seeing how they treated the Moment (worse than the Hero was treated by HTC and Sprint). Not to mention I think the Epic looks like crap, and the Evo just looks freakin sexy
Touchwiz is pretty damn ugly and it's quite pervasive in the Galaxy S operating system. Then again, there will likely be custom roms and lots of support for the Epic since it will be on all major carriers. The screen kicks the EVO's ass and it's allegedly quite responsive, unlike the Moment. I think we need to wait for full reviews of the Epic.
I'm keeping my eye on the Epic too. There were some good points to the Moment but the bad outweighed the good.

Both are intended for purses obviously.
lets hope software updates last longer than 6 months.
ya they are big..a damn holster would like so freakn silly for these phones.. hell the one for my hero with the seidio 3500 extended battery is huge already.lol
I think 3.5 to 3.8 inch would be my range as far as screens go.. any bigger and to me its like a mini tablet.lol
but like all will skip samsung because of one reason. they never have any good extended batteries.. unlike htc... where they are plenty... so might get a evo ( maybe ) around dec.. who knows.. still love my hero...to even think bout it.. I mean look at the dream..lol they got froyo.. the hero will still get support for a awhile..so why switch..when that money can go to something else.. like food,lol

the Evo will fit nicely in my back pocket. Hell, it'll fit nicely in my front pocket of any pair of my jeans. And it'll rarely be in my pocket anyway, since it sits on my seat in my car when I'm driving, and it'd sit on my desk while I'm at work, just the way my Hero does now
But the hero fits in my watch pocket also the epic is supposed to have a faster gpu. And I love my hero, but I like the idea of a keyboard for gaming.

im like the epic better but like what has been said ill wait for reveiws and see what people say on here and see if samsung will fix any problems that might happen like with the evo
I plan on waiting for the dual cores next year anyways, not eligible for upgrade may.

Both phones are nice and I think it comes down to three main factors imo:
1. Will Samsung Epic be rootable, and if so, will Dev support be equal to the Evo;
2. Do you prefer a physical keyboard; and
3. Do you prefer Sense UI over the Epic's UI
The thing that sucks (well, actually good) is that technology is always advancing and new devices are being released every few months and each release tries to out-do the last.
Personally, I'm going to say Samsung Epic since I am on a Hero and have problems using the keyboard. I'd like to give a physical keyboard a try for a few months.

If its essentially the same as the other Galaxy S line up the yes easily rootable. The Dev Support should stretch across the lineup too.

Neither! I want AOSP Froyo on it.

I have the seidio 3500 extended battery also. What holster are you using?!?!? I can't find anyone that fits it.

Hard to say. This is how I see it.
Epic: Best hardware, good physical size.
Evo: Full support of xda.
Top-notch hardware vs. top-notch modding community, it's a very hard decision (for me, at least).
I'm leaning towards the Epic. What keeps me on HTC phones is the support of this community. If that is going to carry over to the Epic, there is no real reason to stay with the Evo. HTC has poor support for their phones which has been proven by their lack of porting Froyo to the Hero. Clearly it is doable. Additionally, if the Epic crosses carriers, we will see a lot of great minds working on the same phone.
Ive read that the actual processing power on the galaxy s is quite better than the snapdragon processors, so if that's your thing...
Plus the pervasiveness of this phone might lead to a lot of work getting done in the xda community.
I am trying my best to like this new keyboard but can't get used to it. I used to be able to quickly type on the old one but this new one is giving me issues. Is there a learning curve or something?

what google did was copy the keyboard from the droid x and just made the keys much smaller, which was their single biggest mistake and which explains some inaccuracy problems that people have been having, especially those with bigger/fatter fingers.
i use keyboard pro instead because i can adjust the size of the keys through the height adjustment feature. (yeah i have big hands/fingers). you can also adjust the multitouch sensitivity on it as well.
you can also download swype as an alternative from swype's website.
They need to make the space bar longer, and remove the period key. Pressing the space bar twice takes care of the period anyway.
I actually love the new android keyboard. I find it much more accurate than the froyo one. idk maybe its just me.

I agree with the spacebar being too small so i switched to swiftkey pro. If the spacebar was bigger i would switch back

I agree. I don't have as much errors on this one and it's the closest one to the iPhone keyboard (which was my favorite). On that 3.5" screen I was able to type out long text messages in portrait mode.
I think the oversensitivity of the Nexus S screen contributes to a lot of typoes and errors as well. Ever try holding your finger just above the screen, but not actually touching it? It'll register as a press. I'm sure when fast thumbs are glazing over the keyboard while typing, it causes mis-hits and repeated hits (like tthis or thiss - something that always happens to me). Oddly enough, sometimes the complete opposite will happen, when it doesn't register hits despite knowing I've hit the key (it'll have the popup preview). This happens especially with the keyboard (resulting in ths or tis, or things likethis). All annoying.
I've always been very critical of the Android typing experience. It's one of the few sore spots of the Android experience in general. Gingerbread stock is without question better than previous iterations, but it still pales in comparison to typing on an iPhone (or even an iPod touch). Anyone who has typed extensively on one would know the difference. I'm sure it's a combination of both hardware and software that makes it so successful; I can type with utter confidence on an iPhone/iPod Touch.
I wish I could say the same for Android. I'm hoping Blindtype will be implemented soon and change all this. I'm also hoping they'll grow a brain and depart from Apple by including features like Custom Auto-Correction. Until then, alternatives help. The new "optimized for Gingerbread" Better Keyboard 8 is quite good. Smart Keyboard Pro is good too (love the Custom Auto-Correction feature).

yeah moreso the droid x then the apple one, check the pic out. i always used the droid x apk on my older android devices and i thought this new one would be the same or an improvement. i guess i thought wrong but hey that's just my opinion.
The 2.3 keyboard is just too small. Measure it to smart keyboard or swift key and you will see what I mean.
I'm using swype and love it.
I use it, I have to admit... I am still learning how to hit the keys just right. However, it is an amazing keyboard, love it.

Adding a vote for the Gingerbread keyboard too. Everytime I have to go back to the Froyo keyboard on friends' devices or my work phone, I find it much harder to type on than my Nexus S. I used to always need the haptic feedback turned on with the Froyo keyboard too, but I haven't bothered turning it on with this keyboard.
I like the gingerbread keyboard. I type a wee bit faster than I did with the froyo KB.

I'm also in love with the new Android keyboard. It may be smaller but it is more accurate than froyo. I don't have the biggest hands in the world but my hands are not small either.
