I wish the search function was better for these forums, but I couldn't seem to find any good info...
I want to change the MAC address for my cingular 8125 running the standard wm5 OS. I have not upgraded the rom or anything at this point. Its pretty much an out of the box experience. Is there a registry setting I can change or a software setting. I tried playing around and view my MAC address but cannot change it.
AFAIK not really, at least not by any simple method like registry change..
Search is working ok for me btw. Not great, but OK.
A search in the "networking" sub-forum pulled up this;

Hi,
I am using XML to provision and configure my PDA with settings and I have a couple of questions for anyone who has done this before. I have some settings working so I got cocky and thought I could do some more but I now need a little help with this...
Needless to say I am very grateful for any help/advice I can get on these...
1. Using XML I want to be able to delete unhelpful registry entries such as today items
2. I would also like to be able to set the following values in seconds:
BattSuspendTimeout
ACSuspendTimeout
3. I would like to be able to increase my Screen\Text Size up one level from the default
4. I would like to be able to creat shortcuts in the program menu for Office via the XML/CPF route but do not know the correct syntax
Is there a good resource for making these changes? I have serahced Google and come across various MS Visual Studio elements but not much for the XML, MakeCab, CPF route.
All the best, and thank you for anyone who can help me,
Sam.

The best place to look is the MSDN books.
If you do a search of XML syntax it has all the options.
Hay all i have a question that i hope someone can help with. On my phone i turn on the wifi switch. i go into Resco Explorer and map the drive of my main desktop machine. It logs on fine and i can see all the files but it will not allow me to view or open them. So i go into File Explorer and choose Menu>Open Path and i enter in the "path" that was displayed in Resco. I have tried this several different ways and i keep getting the same error as follows:
Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings.

As i mentioned i now have several non working paths showing up that i can not get rid of and i still cannot view my files. So if someone could either please point me in the right direction or help out in the connection and getting rid of the non-working paths would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

By any chance how are you login into your system? By the remote desktop powertoy? Logmein website? Did you disable infrastructure mode on your router to view other systems in your network? Telnet? or just a VPN? or other?

sorry i am very confused! i recently upgraded my router and now when i go into resco to map the drive i see a list of computers near me. with what seams like a bagillion computers and phones other than mine. as far as logging in, i basically just flip the wi-fi switch and i just to my home network. i can see the router assigns an ip address as well...sorry for the nooby response! but i do appreciate your reply.
does anyone have any ideas or can maybe walk me through being able to set it up to work?
Hi All,
I don't seem to be able to connect to my work wifi network.
I have the X10i, updated the software also today.
However I have never been able to connect to my work wifi.
We use WPA2-Enterprise, when scanning I see the network and it says the network is WPA2-EAP.
these are the settings it lists
EAP method = TLS
Phase 2 authentication = None
CA certificate = N/A
Client Certificate = N/A
Private Key Password = (ready for input)
Identity = (ready for input)
Anonymous identity = (ready for input)
Wireless password = (ready for input)
I can not change any of these (I have selected each option but no option to change), but as I understand it I need to input a phase 2 authentication? This is meant to be MSCHAPV2?
Also, being on a work network, we have domain, user names and passwords, I am unsure where to enter this information - I have tried multiple variations and not succeeded.
Any advice or pointers would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Anuj
Ah good point of you I totally forgot this on the whole rooting thing, because i have similar problems with Eduroam.
SE has ripped out WPA2 Enterprise support in their release, we must find were to add files to get this working.
I must have a look if i have time or if somebody else find it i would be happy too

Okay seems like it is a UI isssue. Try wifi helper to configure WIFI (root needed)

The wifi helper does not seem to work, I entered details but then could not see how to connect, I went to my wifi scan, could not see it, and then opened wifi helper again and it had deleted my configuration.....
Any other ideas?
yeh wifi helper is kinda messed up
it also deleted all of my configurations and stuff
if you wanna fix that uninstall it then go to your terminal and enter
rm/data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.config
Hey guys, try this link:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1386
read comment #10
any updates on this issue??
Hi,
Well I uninstalled the wifi helper as it did nothing for me.
My phone is not rooted so the comment 10 on googlecode forum is of no help to me.
I am unsure what you meant by go to the terminal and type {string provided in earlier post}
Find this really frustrating :-(
If you can clarify would be really appreciated, or if anyone has any other ideas?
Thanks again guys,
Anuj

Hey Bin4ry is there another option for this problem because wi fi helper does not seem to work on my root device.
Sony support is telling that there's no software that can solve this. I guess root is the only way for this. I'm a newbie on Androids so I can't do anything about it.

Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting Sony Ericsson Contact Center.
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 does unfortunatly not support EAP-PEAP but only EAP-TLS. We have no software that can solve this.
Best regards,

Has anyone got this to work properly? Does the Wifi patch released by Jerpelea do anything for this?
No luck here. I don't know about the jerpelea patch. It adds channels 1-13. I actually don't know what is it for.

Hey synlar and the other guys, I just got my Xperia X10 to work in our university wifi. WPA-EAP PEAP with MSCHAPV2. I used the app Wifi-Config Editor Pro from the market. You don't even need to root your phone. I hope this works on everyone else also. I was so thankful with the developer. This app saved my phone.
Can you give the specific program name? I couldn't find it in market.
Only one I found is Wifi Config, and it's not available anymore.
Thanks soujiro,
just search oddrain in the marketplace, the apps come up.
I'll try it out once school starts in a month

I installed the app and it doesn't work for me. How did you get it to work?

Getting WPA2-EAP working with rooted handset
In case anyone is still struggling to connect to a WPA enterprise network, this is a cross-posting from elsewhere on xda-developers which may be useful for some. This works on a ROOTED X10 Mini Pro.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One annoying thing about the X10 Mini Pro is that you can't connect to WPA2-EAP enterprise networks that use MSCHAPv2 (like a lot of university networks, such as eduroam). With a rooted phone you
can edit the wpa_supplicant.conf to get this to work. Apparently an app called Wifi Config Editor Pro will allow you to edit this without root on an X10, but it doesn't show in the market for my X10 Mini Pro, so....
1) adb shell
2) su
3) cd /data/misc/wifi
3 1/2) In advance get the stuff you need on the clipboard by highlighting it and hitting ctrl-c or whatever it takes on you machine
4) busybox vi wpa_supplicant.conf
(to edit the wpa configuration file)
5a) Type (to get to last line of wpa file)
:$
5b) Type
a
to enter append mode in vi
5c) Type ctrl-v (or whatever pastes stuff on your machine) to enter the required text
network={
ssid="eduroam"
key_mgmt=WPA-EAP IEEE8021X
eap=PEAP
identity="MYIDENTITY"
password="SECRET"
phase1="peapver=0"
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
priority=7
}
or similar, where MYIDENTITY is your eduroam login ID and SECRET is your password. This is taken verbatim from another phone (HTC Desire, Android 2.2) which does work OK. You could also edit the file off phone and adb push it on, just watch ownerships (system.wifi) and permissions (u rw) don't get munged up.....
5d) Hit escape key to exit append mode in vi
6) Type
:wq
to save and quit vi
7) you are now back in the shell, so log out of su with exit, and out of the shell with another exit
8) connect and surf, it works for me (so long as there isn't any http proxying to be dealt with... )
Hi, I'm new to XDA Developers but have been using as a valuable resource over the past few months.
We have a HTC Touch Pro 2 device (WM6.5) that we provide support for to a number of personnel. The client have requested that we change the device settings so that photos have the timestamp applied and secondly that it not be possible to take it off again.
Since we have somewhere in the region of 600 devices to update, we'll need to do this via a registry change through our updates service. Try as I might though, I can not find the setting to do either of these. I have searched on here and google and can't find the answer. Has anyone done this before?
Thanks in advance.
I've been doing some digging on this and found a registry key under
HKEY_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\HTC\Camera\Image
called 'enableStamp'. However, when I change this on Visual Studio 2005 remote registry tool, it doesn't seem to make any difference on the phone, the menu option stays the same. Likewise, the menu doesn't seem to change the registry which leads me to think it's another setting someplace or the settings are stored elsewhere.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I've finally made a breakthrough on this. I had to export the entire registry, change the value, export the registry again and compare the files. I found that this value
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Camera\6.16\Preferences
contains a large Hex value string and found that change a value that was 48 (timestamp off) to C8 (timestamp on) was reflected on the device. This string seems to have a lot of values so I'm assuming they are all to do with options selected in the camera menu. I just hope one of them is to disable the timestamp option now. I've posted this here in the hope it helps someone else.
