change mac address - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I wish the search function was better for these forums, but I couldn't seem to find any good info...
I want to change the MAC address for my cingular 8125 running the standard wm5 OS. I have not upgraded the rom or anything at this point. Its pretty much an out of the box experience. Is there a registry setting I can change or a software setting. I tried playing around and view my MAC address but cannot change it.

AFAIK not really, at least not by any simple method like registry change..
Search is working ok for me btw. Not great, but OK.
A search in the "networking" sub-forum pulled up this;

EDIT Help please... Bluetooth half-gone

Here goes.
I bought a Magician a few months back. Hated the lack of space but liked the Bluetooth functionality. I could connect wirelessly around the house no problem. Sending/receiving files to/from anyone with a Bluetooth device.
Decided to proceed with BigStorage ROM Flash. Flash succesful. Enjoyed adequate space. Hated Bluetooth. I tried to get some help in this forum but the help extended wasn't exactly too successful. I was missing the [`Bluetooth] option in ActiveSync [a registry key I believe], and I couldn't send/receive files. I decided to give up on it until I had enough time to retrieve the registry key by reflashing with shipped ROM and flashing back to BigStorage.
I found the time to do it last week. Flashed and reflashed several times [every single attempt was successful], checking and rechecking for the Bluetooth registry keys. Yet I couldn't find them.
My Magician can still detect Bluetooth devices so I'm sure the hardware isn't busted. But I can't even transfer files using Bluetooth. Tried installing that Bluetooth Stack from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33532. Added some new features, but functionality is as stated in this paragraph.
Help? ::crycry:: hahahaha
I am now totally clueless as to how to go about this predicament..
EDIT
I've recently did the BigStorage ROM on my Magician. And everything was just peachy. Up until I tried to sync my Magician to the PC via Bluetooth.
Before I did the ROM patch, I was able to sync my unit through Bluetooth after some few hours of tweaking my system. But after I did the patch, I tried to sync it again through Bluetooth. My PC was waiting for the Magician but the unit kept disconnecting itself.
I ran Activesync on the Magician, went to its settings, and the Bluetooth option was gone. Only `USB was left along with some numbers (baud rates?), when previously it had `Bluetooth as well.
I'm sure Bluetooth works (as I've installed the CAB associated with it from the ExtRom) on the unit since it can make a device pairing and ask for a passkey and all that, but syncing through Bluetooth doesn't work anymore.
Could anyone shed some light on this for me?

try pairing your device to the pc! make sure that ur pc is not listed on the magician paired devices, activate the pairing from the magician through bluetooth under settings system tab through "Bluetooth ActiveSync Setup" and go from there.
let me know how you go!
errr.. ok i tried what you suggested. and i'm starting to wonder..
now my device can't see and can't be seen. i can't make a pair anymore even from the pc. my unit says 'no new devices found' yet my pc is discoverable.
broken bluetooth radio maybe (but it was working before the patch...)? or could it be a cab file i missed?
Hi i'm only new myself but you could try a soft reset then retry pairing your device, or a hard reset and see if the bluetooth works then? or maybe even try the cab file on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33532
I have found that worst case senario a hard reset and look for the right bluetooth cab to install from the ext rom.
run a search on this site for ext rom and look for the post with details about each of the seperate files and what they do!
*Edit* i did a quick search and i wasnt able to find anything in the ext rom that applies to bluetooth setup or settings! so i guess a hard reset maybe the best way to find out whether is software or hardware?!!
Maybe one of the more experienced guys on this site might be able to help you further.
Hope this helps a little
thanks for your time boh113. i can still sync through the USB port so i guess bluetooth will have to wait. i just use it for wireless internet around the house when i'm not at the pc anyway.
i might try the hard reset when i have more time to tinker with the magician. but in any case, i'd like to thank you for trying to help
just an update in case somebody can help
i managed to pair my device with the pc already. but i still can't connect via bluetooth in the magician's async.
ok i found something in my registry pertaining to my problem. although i'm not sure how to fix it.
in the magician's async, under tools -> options -> PC -> options, there's a drop-down list for PC synchronization options:
`115200 Default
`19200 Default
`38400 Default
`57600 Default
`USB
there was a `Bluetooth option included at the end of the list before i did the bigstorage ROM.
going back to the registry, i found the keys to this list (although i'm not entirely sure if these are correct, but these are the only ones on my list)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`115200 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`19200 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`38400 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`57600 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`USB
and to what i can see, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`Bluetooth doesn't exist. there are a whole lot of hex values under these keys and i'm not sure what they are for.
although if somebody could post/upload the `Bluetooth key from their device, i'd be grateful.
i'm aware that the hex values are also based upon hardware but i'm willing to try it out.
Ok i can find what your talking about but i dont have the ability to copy and paste the registry entry anywhere?!
if you can tell me how to get hold of this for you i'd be happy to help anyway i can!
most registry editors have the capability for exporting specific keys up to whole trees. perhaps if you have resco explorer and the registry add-on. or some other software similar to it. tap-hold and export?
thanks
I have resco explorer and the registry add-on but i cant find anyway to export the registry file?!
There's an option for import but thats it, also there's an option to copy but all it allows you to do is copy and past within the registry itself!
unfortunately i dont have the technical experience to do much ore tha n this, a quick guide as to which program to use and how to do it and i would be more than happy to help!
oh ok. open up resco explorer or the registry add-on. then navigate your way to this folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook
there should be a \`Bluetooth\ folder within \RasBook\ what you do is tap-and-hold on that (`Bluetooth) folder until you see the drop down text list. "Export..." should be one of the options then you can specify where to put it. by default resco places it in the main memory
will wait thanks boh113
No worries found it and exported for your satisfaction!
Had to zip it ;D
hope this can help you further!
Goodluck
Much appreciated!!
Will try it out in a bit. I'll post my results after
Thanks boh113!
well, i got back the `Bluetooth option in async. but still doesn't want to connect to the pc. the hex values probably don't match the hardware in my unit. oh well. i'll test it out a couple more hours. and if i still don't get it to work, a hard reset might be my only solution. or re-flash with my original rom and start all over again. hahahaha
thanks for your help and time boh113. forgive me for having taken too much of it
No worries, sorry i couldnt have been of more help!
Good luck with it all!
*bump*

Cool Pocket IE Reg tweaks.

Sorry if this has been posted already, but I was kinda impressed with this tweak, that I wanted to share it with this awesome community. I ran into this registry tweak over at HTC Wizard web, which drastically enchances page loads on pocket internet explorer. And trust me it now loads a lot faster.
You can see the tweaks on the following link.
http://www.htcwizardweb.net/node/808
Is this Cingular specific? I'm under T-Mobile and I don't see either of those.
I didn't see any of them either so I just created them myself. And it still worked like a charm. By the way I have Cingular 8125
Where it says add value just type in MaxRequestThreads and set value to 10 or whatever you desire above 5.
Do the same for MaxConnectionsPerServer.

Cingular 8525 - various connection problems, app specific

Ok, I've recently purchased a 8525 from Cingular Wireless (USA), because I liked the phone and it's a good management tool. My only complaint is I play a mud game (ooh... yeah... mudgame ) here at http://www.dsl-mud.org , now I work for a large banking institution and more often than not, I find myself with too much time on my hands. I've spent two weeks searching for possible fixes to this, but I cannot seem to connect to the telnet to play it. If I use Terminal Client Services, I can connect to the server, which I am not the owner of DSL and have no access to it. If I try to put in the port # (mud.dsl-mud.org:4000 or www.dsl-mud.org:4000) it won't recognize the port because of the : I've tried upgrading the .NET Framework... to no avail as well.
Also, problem #2 is my Pocket MSN, which works great, I really do love the app, but after about a minute, I can send messages but not recieve any.... any ideas (Before and after .NET Framework update)
Edited to add this:
Also, using bluetooth connection, I cannot seem to connect to my brother's RAZR V3 phone to send files etc. The two will recognize eachother but it only shows "Dialup Networking" as the services available
The phone is the Cingular 8525 (hermes), no 3rd party app's except for the multiple telnet clients I've tried... is it possibly a registry edit I need to do?
Thanks in advance (I asked here because after searching through multiple forums, you guys seem to be the most knowedgeable/helpfull)
Hallo and welcome to the forum DSLMulassassin.
Unfortunately I am not competent to answer your question(s).
I just wanted to say that often more answers are gained when the thread title gives fairly specific info on the problem. So where people might not look at a thread called "a little confused here" they might open a thread called "problems connecting to telnet". This also helps greatly when people search based on thread titles. So if you get good answers, folks doing future searches on "telnet" will benefit as well.
Hope you get some replies
Mike
Yeah, you're correct Mike, just it's late and I couldn't think of a better topic, but you are 100% right.
Fixed bluetooth problem
For Terminal Services, frankly, upgrade to Crossbow, or search around for the registry hack that lets you specify a custom port. Can't remember it off hand, it might be in the wiki. Fuzzy search for it, or google the site.

Vijay -
While I agree that upgrading to Crossbow would probably be better, I do not feel like flashing my ROM, I say that because I am too new to this, and do not want to risk Bricking my device... maybe when I've read over everything for a few more weeks and feel comfortable that I know what I'm doing. Do you think it might be a registry setting blocking ports?

Automatic WiFi on startup (Hermes 200)?

Hello,
I'm new here (so please don't shoot me, i'm quite a rookie) and I've been doing a lot of search-work, unfortunately without result yet.
I'm trying to modify the registry for automatic WiFi "on" when the Hermes 200
is starting up after a power down.
Is there any possibility by modifying the registry or do I have to go deeper (dll, ROM etc?). I allready tried changing some settings in the registry without any result.
Some information:
PPC: HTC TyTn (Hermes 200)
OS: WM 5.0
ROM: 2.11.254.1
I would be very gratefull if anyone can point me in the right direction!
i'd like to know this as well, would b prtty nice to have.
use this: http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJVolubilis and put a shortcut with wifion option in \windows\startup.
cheers,
dan
Brilliant
This works!
Notice that you'll have to edit your command line like this:
\vjvolubilis.exe" -wifion
Many thanks, this was what I'm looking for!
Well, now we have succeeded in turning on Wifi the next issue to overcome is: Automatic connection to a preffered Wifi Access point. But how?
I suggest the tiny program vijay555 wrote does dynamicly change some registry settings (binary strings) to invoke the desired actions. Or do I think too easy?
Would it be possible to auto-connect to a preffered AP?

reverse bluetooth tether?

Hi.
I'm trying to use my G1 with the bluetooth pan network from my computer or from my mogul (which has an unlimited data plan) to go to the internet instead of using wifi to be more energy efficient.
So far, using wifi tether's bluetooth option, I manage to establish a pan network between my G1 and the computer running windows. However, traffic is not routed properly, I get "network unreachable" from the terminal when I try to ping something outside the local pan network.
Any ideas?
you cannot access the interwebs on your G1 from a network on your computer. you cannot reverse tether. it is not possible at this time, please people stop posting about this stuff
if you had searched you would have seen that it can't be done and you would have found a thread where theyare trying to get it working
I know it is not possible at this time, hence my post here.
I need someone with linux networking knowledge to have a look into this, the android platform is a bit peculiar to me, ifconfig is behaving differently on it then it does on a regular linux distro. I need help setting up the right dns entries, figuring out where they are stored in Android (resolv.conf? a property set using setprop?), etc...
The idea is to have Android connect to an existing bluetooth access point. Everything is there to do it, pand is working, a virtual bluetooth network adaptor can be created, I can even give it a proper ip address and I manage to ping it from the access point and I can ping the access point from android...
This is the perfect forum to post such a question.
Anyone else with a more useful comment?

You use the term "linux distro". Now, I know I may be beating a dead horse here, but linux is just the kernel--the rest is GNU software. Many things are going to behave differently on Android.
Exactly, what works in Fedora 10 possibly will not work in android... (and thats giving some ambition there.....)
that's exactly why I am asking here instead of elsewhere.
To tubaking182 : the really usefull answer would have been to give me a link to the right thread instead. The search features of this forum sucks.
Thanks anyway.
Hi stanelie,
I too am very interested in doing this VERY same thing. I've also searched and come up empty handed. If there is anyone out there with more information that could help please feel free to post. Thanks in advance.
I'm sorry some here do not like people asking questions but I too would very much appreciate REVERSE BLUETOOTH TETHER functionality for my Android phone. Despite what tubaking182 so very helpfully writes above (thank you ever so much!) there remains no EASY solution for this.
I will happily pay for an easy to install, reliable Android Market app that does this. I think lots of others will too.
So that there is no misunderstanding I wish to connect my phone as a Bluetooth PAN client to a Bluetooth PAN server. The server functionality is NOT required.
Thanks,
Paul
