Mogul to Home Network - Mogul, XV6800 General

Hay all i have a question that i hope someone can help with. On my phone i turn on the wifi switch. i go into Resco Explorer and map the drive of my main desktop machine. It logs on fine and i can see all the files but it will not allow me to view or open them. So i go into File Explorer and choose Menu>Open Path and i enter in the "path" that was displayed in Resco. I have tried this several different ways and i keep getting the same error as follows:
Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings.

As i mentioned i now have several non working paths showing up that i can not get rid of and i still cannot view my files. So if someone could either please point me in the right direction or help out in the connection and getting rid of the non-working paths would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

By any chance how are you login into your system? By the remote desktop powertoy? Logmein website? Did you disable infrastructure mode on your router to view other systems in your network? Telnet? or just a VPN? or other?

sorry i am very confused! i recently upgraded my router and now when i go into resco to map the drive i see a list of computers near me. with what seams like a bagillion computers and phones other than mine. as far as logging in, i basically just flip the wi-fi switch and i just to my home network. i can see the router assigns an ip address as well...sorry for the nooby response! but i do appreciate your reply.

does anyone have any ideas or can maybe walk me through being able to set it up to work?

Anyone managed to print over network with jetcet?

I have been trying to use jetcet with a network printer but it is unable to connect to the network (or see the printer). Can anyone help on this?
Thanks,
almost...
I got as far as getting a document into a network print queue then it jammed up the spooler "remote level download"
I didn't have much of a problem assigning the ptirinter though.
How far have you got?
I have tried to find my networked printer by using the 'search' button in the printer configuration process but I get the response network error. I have also tried to specify the printer by using the 'add' printer tab, specifying the make and path and then trying to print a test page, but I get the response no printer found (or something like that).
In short, I haven't made much progress....you are certainly ahead of me.
TRy direct addressing
I'm assuming you've turned on printer sharing already and shared the printer.
Enter the printer as \\hostname\printersharename
Assuming its a shared printer from a pc:
The host name will be in the full computer namer of the pc hosting the printer.
Right click on My Computer, Select properties, select computer name tab, look for the full computer name
Printersharename will be whatever you've set the printer sharename to be.
Select start/printers and faxes, right click on the printer, slect properties and loook on sharetab for name.
If you've done all that and still cant get the printer in try checking your windows firewall settings to ensure printer sharing is in the exceptions list.
If you've got thrid party firewalls they proably need configuring.
UHm ...interesting. How to configure to share my Epson Stylus CX5400 via WiFi router?
THX!
Thanks for your help inframan but I followed your instructions carefully and still I get the reply "network error" when I trey to print a test page.
Still open to any other suggestions,

Epson stylus hanging off a pc?
Stylus CX5400 appears to be on the list of supported printers so you should be able to add it in jetcet using the technique above to identify the share.
Yes, I have mapped shared drives using Resco explorer and easily transfer files and music, etc. Is there some other way to map drives besides Resco explorer that I should be using?

Yes, thats what I meant.
I have actually managed to use jetcet print print this evening via Wifi to an old Epson inkjet so it is possible.
Quality is lousy on the ancient inkjet though. Would really like to get it to work with my HP laserjet. I've sent westek a support request.

No just wanted to check you do actually have the basic network functionality worked out.
If you are accessing the network ok and setting it up as described then I'm afraid I dunno why its not working. I've only just managed to get it to work completely for me this evening albeit on a rubbush printer.
How much free memory are you showing?
I havn't played with it yet but sometimes PocketPC's have problems resolving NetBios names so try \\<ip address>\printershare. So instead of using the computer's name, try the IP address for the computer. See if that works for you.
I have tested several configurations but I can't get it to work. I am using a Netgear WiFi DG834GT Router and I can see my net with Resco Explorer...but I can't with printer application...
Any farder suggestion?
I have now tried everything suggested so far without success. Somehow I think my device is unable to see the network except through Resco explorer. I say this because when I use sktools to show network drive in standard file explorer I get the icon entitled Network but no contents inside.
Still hoping for some way to solve my problem. Thanks,

Acces files on remote computer

I have used logmein and remote desktop succesfully have created a vpn and connected but have not found a succesful way to read and write files on a remote computer or drive. I couldn't even see computers through the vpn but the host computer aknowledged the connection if anyone has any clue what direction i need to go to figure this out it would be very helpful.
thanks
two options;
1) Check your firewall
2) Check if you share your files correctly and that they are writable by other network users.
have you succesfully pulled this off and viewed the other computers on the network or the hosts drive and if so what program did you use to view the drives thanks for the quick response
This seems to be a problems for all I guess... no solution so far... =S

Full WM6 or 6.1 on Shift

Everyone,
This is one of my first posts. I have been reading the threads on this and cannot make heads or tails of what's going on. I have a Shift for eval purposes and after playing around with it, I think it's a pretty amazing device. HTC has crippled the phone capability in the US versions because they haven't certified it for voice use with the FCC yet. If we can access "file explorer" and some of the other features of WM6, I think a lot can be done to modify it or even to use it for voice. Has anybody made any headway as far as a new ROM that enables all of this functionality?
No
nobody has yet developed the crack. The reason is because nobody has the machine yet. Can u comment a bit about the battery life. Is it very disappointing?
well, now that several people actually have the device in-hand, could somebody please confirm that the ability to expose full WM6 exists as described by Pawel062:
Pawel062 said:
hmm dont really understand the last part about snapvue. the snapvue for athena is snapvue from shift with a small mod to re enable the softkeys and start menu. it will work on shift and also re enable the soft keys and start menu making the shift's wm6 "Full" again

So Any luck running/installing any other programs on SnapVue?
greetz,
Pfeffa-rah
what about athena projects rom? that rom is actually from shift right?
snapvue is actually a today plugin pretty much. it hides the soft keys and start menu of the original wm6. then from the plugin u have access to messaging, settings, and other basic stuff.
this is ment so u use vista but with only 2hrs max battery on vista many people would like to use the less power hungry wm6. i am working with paul from modaco.com on re enabling the full wm6 by putting a modded dll that will unhide the start menu. after that ull be able to get into file explorer and get a reg editor to re enable the soft keys.
heres the challlenge:
--no usb port like regular htc phones to sync the shift and get the dll on their. only usb host
--no bluetooth in snapvue/wm6 side
--no wifi in snapvue/wm6 side
--no ir in wm6 side
--vista device central doesnt see the wm6 side
--cant save files from email to windows folder
and i cant remember now the other blockades. i will continue working on it though.
Seems like that there is some kind of file transfer, it uses it when you install a certificate in shift control center, but how to crack it open or replicate the process for other files, and then execute the file on snapvue site ....
Think its time for a "taskforce thred" where all info is posted so everyone can work on it.
Sounds a lot more difficult then I first imagined....
(No BT??? OMG! had no idea!)
Sounds like I have to be a bit more patient...
This doesnot sound like it´s gonna be solved in a couple of days....
It´s great that you´re workin on it guys!
greetz,
Pfeffa-rah
thanks Pawel062, I appreciate your efforts in trying to find a way to get this to work!
Just saw if you edit a contact and then try to attach a picture, you can browse the WM6 folders.
Unfortunately you can only see the pictures, because it's using the picture manager from HTC..
Silly thought: The miniUSB connector on the dongle formally is only meant to provide additional power to devices that otherwise would not be detected (External Harddrives etc). Would it be a silly thought to assume that the same miniUSB port could somehow allow us to access the SnapVue part? The miniUSB port is located at the back next to the cable leading back to the Shift.
I hadn't even noticed that.
I just plugged mine in for the first time, the only drivers Vista installs are for a Generic USB Hub and a USB to Ethernet Adaptor. There doesn't seem to be anything else hidden in there.
If anyone needs anything tested on a shift dont hesitate to ask. Full WM6 functionality would be greatly appreciated and would turn snapview from a gimick into a usefull tool.
OK so thanks to Michael who commented on Browsing using Contacts and Pictures, I managed to gain access to the Windows Mobile File Explorer and other software on the device.
First step is to create a new email.
From the menu Insert - Picture.
Using the browse capability go to the Windows folder
Locate Start Menu and press Ctrl C
Browse to Settings
Press Ctrl V
Go to Snapvue homescreen and goto Settings
Start Menu will be visible and you can then access File Explorer etc.
Hope this helps....
Excellent. I have sent myself the executable of PHM.lu's regedit, saved it into my documents, and am now able to access and edit the registry!

Great! Any possibilty to enable blocked things like office or is it not installed?
Also in my limited investigations, I have managed to almost access Windows Vista from the Windows Mobile side.
Using Resco's Explorer with its Network Access functionality, I performed the following.
Under Windows Vista, run the ShagCtrl application.
Install a Certificate, this can be any file you like.
You will see the progress bar appear and drop up and down. If you listen you will hear the sound of a new device being added.
Do NOT click OK when prompted as this will remove the device.
If you load up Device manager, you will see an "NDIS shared Internet connection" (or something similar) appear under network connections.
If you open CMD and run an IPConfig, you will see that this connection has an IP Address of 192.168.160.102 and a gateway and DHCP server of 192.168.160.1.
From the Windows Mobile side, load Resco Explorer and goto Menu - File - Network - Map Drive
In the dialog that appears, you should see Computers near Me (or similar) and under here should be your Vista machine.
If you share a drive, or select the Vista computer and put \c$ on the end, it should try to connect.
This is as far as it gets me so far. Was a late one, but I couldnt get it to actually connect.
So close yet so far.
In Addition, if you try to run a cab file it will error. This is because HTC have remove the Open command file association for Cab files.
Using your favourite WM registry editor goto HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Cabfile\Shell\Open\command\.
Under Default type
wceload.exe "%1" /nodelete
cab files will now install correctly.
Hope this helps...
Hi,
I ama anew user of Shift. I am did not understand clearly what did you mean about full WM6 or 6.1. Knows somebody how can we have a full WM6 on it? Pls help me I really need a full WM6 system also.
Thx.
Ok, so I've accessed the Start menu using Vs1979s instructions, and I've found that Windows Live messenger is on the device and works ok. I'd like to try and install Opera, but I need a registry editor that isn't a CAB file in order to add back in the registry key to support CAB files - can someone point me in the direction of one?
Thanks,
Dave

cant find an app HELP

im looking for an app i have seen it before but cant seem to find it to download it.
its were it lets me be able to connect to my computer thru wifi so that i can transfer files to and from my comp over wifi
does anyone know what the name of it is or were i can download it from
i guess no one knows which app it is that im talking about
I am guessing it is like a network explorer type program.
However Mocha VNC allows you to connect to your computer anywhere through WiFi or Data Connection (it is a remote desktop application) and it will allow you to do File Transfers Back and Forth.
It has a free trial and works on windows mobile so you could give it a try.
yeah thats pretty much what im looking for is to be able to transfer songs to and from my computer to my phone with out having to take out my memory card or have to plug in my phone... thanks
ok so either i dont know what im doing and am a complete dumbass or this **** isnt working can any one give me a hand
Try this. I use this with HTC Touch Elf and it works perfect. This is a full version - Found it on this site - However, can't remember who innitialy posted otherwise I would give credit. Works to view files over wifi connection, transfer files. I listen to my music with this and watch videos from computer on my device. Transfer speeds are not bad but not great. Not to hard to use. Just make folders on your computer as shared folders and then use this program to seach them on your network and connect to them. You only have to connect once and then use file explorer - go to network and into the network folders each time after.
Use Copy and paste to transfer files from desktop to your device
oh ok cool cool thanks let me see if it will work
i tried to install it on my phone but after i did the install i cant find it any were to open it

Easy. Start, Settings, connections, Network plugin
Enjoy
i dont have a network plugin option all i have beam, bluetooth, connections csd line type, gprs setting, networkcards, usb to pc, wireless LAN
I don't know what to say. Did it install properly?
I had a difficult time finding it as well as I didn't expect it to go there. Did you try doing a search on your device for it. Also, search using file explorer in Program Files to see if it is there. It has got to be somewhere, just have to find it. It will be worth it as it should work perfectly for what you need.
well im getting ready to go through my phone with file explore on my comp to see if i can find it but i havent been able to so far

thanks so much

If you use IFONZ or ultimate launch or throttle launcher I would create a shortcut launcher Icon so that you don't always have to go into your window folder. I have a shortcut on my phone to it using ultimate Launch. That way if I want to brows other peoples shared folders while using their wifi connection< I can just click easily and search for their shared folders. works nice.
heck yeah thanks man my only thing now is that every time that i try to back to the previous folder it wont let me i have to exit out and start over.

How to Do - Sharing pc directories

Hi how can i share via wifi pc directories with my hd2? Setup/instructions? programs? Thanks!
You can map drives over to your HD2 in order to view video's and play mp3's ect... Get Resco Explorer ( http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/ ) as it has a Network Browser that will allow you to view your network and map drives.

running resco explorer seen network item but i couldn´t get connection to my pc name and a shared directory (ex. \\pcname\$c) must i disable firewalls or anything else to get communication established?
Normally you'll need to disable the firewall on your system (if it's running windows firewall as it does sometimes affect the connection).
Just double checking the method that you are using to connect, with Explorer open do the following:
Click on Menu - File -Network - Map Drive. Now give a few moments and it should show you a list of "Computers Near Me". Once you see your computer you should be able to click the plus sign next to it and automatically see all of it's shares.
Also just to double check, you should be trying to connect to "\\pcname\C$" and not \\pcname\$C" although i'd recommended not going for the root of your drive and just mapping a different shared folder.
I am sharing files from a NAS over LAN too. Using Resco Explorer 2010 to browse the files works great for me. Actually, being able to browse Windows share is the reason I paid for Resco Explorer.
If you have another PC, try confirming you can really access the share from another Windows PC.
Thanks a lot i will give a try and response with results ;-))
I use resco, and although I can manually map shares buy typing in \\comp\drive, and they stay mapped and work fine, I've never yet managed to get resco to actually list the shares in the my network section. no idea why, all my machines are discoverable etc.
