According to this and this, AT&T sells the HTC HD Mini under the name of Aria, and it runs Android 2.1. I’m no developer, but doesn’t that help in installing android on an HD Mini that currently runs Windows Mobile?
I think that is a HTC Wildfire (that's its name in the UK anyway), which is an Andoid QVGA phone (as opposed to the HD Mini being a HVGA Windows Mobile phone).

No, it's not.
Check here:
http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/06/17/htc-aria-review/
The 2 devices are similar but not identical.
The problem is that the EPROM firmware is simply not interchangable between the 2 platforms.
This topic has been discussed at length elsewhere
Aria and Wildfire are two different models.
Aria being the direct clone of HD mini, with redesigned capacitive buttons to fit into the android format.
Wildfire is like a scaled down version of Desire. They have identical specs, except for the slower processor, and a very much downgraded screen resolution.

I'm considering buying a new HTC phone after Xmas as my Sony Ericsson W850i is getting a bit old. I've seen the Touch HD with WM6.5 roms but I've also seen the Hero. Which one should I go for? [PS. I'm from the UK]
Come on, i will take the LEO and sell my HD to you.
As above post, why not go for latest phone 'Leo' a.k.a. the HD2 instead of both the HD and the Hero??
If you would still rather go for either the HD or Hero, then its simply down to whether you want Android or Windows

Both are awesome, it is a win win question.
do you want android or windows is the question.

I should add, most 6.5 roms stink so far.
Dutty's 6.1 has most of the feature stolen from 6.5, but with none of the crap

Basically, I am on a bit of a budget as I am actually planning to get one pre-owned from 'Cex'. If I had the money, I would go for the Leo without another word but I can't. I'm new to the smartphone market and I've never tried Android or Windows Mobile. I just like the Sense UI on both [using a ROM if I got the HD]. Which OS should I go for?

Hi, clearly i can say only:
Touch Hd - more advanced, more ability/opportunities, wm is more custom-able than android, touch hd have in development fully* working android
Hero - fastest interface, easy in use, lower resolution, no videocall's, hero housing/case is beautyfull, best quality I have seen.
Touch HD2 looks great but in my opinion too expensive atm - just wait for next gen. 1.5Ghz Snapdragon platforms
HD -> pocket-friendly, WM=heavy weight+Qualcomm/HTC hardware acceleration driver support for HD (therefore laggy), fully configurable&tweakable.
Hero -> pocket-friendly, Android=very lightweight (only sometimes laggy), consistent interface and apps, outstanding Google apps (e.g. free Street View Navigation) if you don't mind about your privacy, but may become boring if you like customizing your phone.
HD2 -> not pocket-friendly, the best and fastest (WM) phone out there.
Both HD and Hero phones are to be considered end-of-HTC-"support".
If you can afford to wait 9 more months, go for sth cheap meanwhile and take a look at the next HTC (Win7 OS and/or Tegra platforms) and iPhone generations, then consider again. If you can't wait, I'd currently go for the HD2, even though I'm very happy with my HD (but I wouldn't buy it again, it's a dying product).
HD mini's Display is hVGA,
can someone make a HaRet porting htc Legend's android 2.1 and sense UI to this device when it was entered the market ,
is it possible?
I love HD mini,I can't afford LEO and Blackstone
Why don't you just buy an Android handset?
If you're in it for a small Android handset, may I suggest the Xperia X10 Mini, the name is something like that, when it's released?
Oh!
I love both of android and WM
I think it is possible to put android on HD mini
I like a phone which can DIY
flashing ROMs or Installing programs
Sorry, but Android sucks. Google even more.
If I offended someone with this. Then don't mind, just think.

I really like HD mini, as well: the compact dimension is really attractive, and I think it's a good comprimise between price and performance. My only doubt is that, as we already knew and as someone already posted, one of the main problem of the HD mini is the OS: I agree that developers will jump on WM7 and the device could be already obsoleto soon.
So, may say that HTC 'should' meet Android on this device to increase the market? Won't be a good opportunity for them since Android's market is growing? I don't mean now, but it's gonna be cool if they will realease a new Android's ROM, when WM7 will offcially be out.

Guess little chance that HTC will make an Adroid Rom available for a WM phone......they rather sell a new phone.....and an argument not to do this could be that when WM7 takes longer (not unusual with Microsoft......).....the HD mini has a longer lifetime and they will sell a few more......HTC has a phone line up where adroid adresses another market than Windows. They will not mix these.
As in many cases an android Rom for HD mini needs to come from XDA community.....
I think with the release of the HD Mini's twin android brother, Gratia, which has the same specs the mini has. a port should be easy to make, I guess. I'm not a developer but I think it's possible
First for realization Port android, it is necessary to crack the loader hdmini
(HSPL). While it does not happen, even to think about android on hdmini is not necessary!
well it wouldn't hurt to be a bit optimistic
You can put Windows Mobile OS on an Android device?
Although Android is a more fluid, Windows Mobile offers more options.

Bravo good question.
Only your English seems
bad.
HTC HD Mini and HTC Legend
The device running Windows Mobile 6.5 Sense with 320 x 480 resolution HVGA is the "Touch HD Mini".
The best Windows Mobile system is present on "HD Mini" with graphic optimization and speed.
Also HTC Legend has a 320 x 480 resolution HVGA.
Both systems have a 600 MHz processor.
Sorry for my English.
The solution is simple. Don't buy a Legend if you want Windows Mobile. Buy a HD2, or anything else. I'm almost 100% sure that Windows Mobile won't be available for Legend (and there is no need to anyway). The main aspect for the Legend's success is Android and HTC Sense. I don't buy a Mac if I want to run Windows on it
Anyway it would be interesting trying Windows Phone 7 on Legend when it's available.
go wash your mouth wit soap.
How about a dual boot?

then buy a Windows Mobile 7 when it's on sale.
WM for me is a good but Legend has a nice aesthetics, I made only a demand since there are similarities between HTC HD Mini and HTC Legend.
However I have also an HD2.
winmo7 looks like a bad OS its so locked out compared to past versions seems like a backwards step

It's not so much an superiority/inferiority issue as to the 100's of dollars I've spent over the years for apps that will be useless with Android.

I have both HD2 and Legend. Legend is my daily phone and HD2 is my business phone. You have a point in telling Winmo offers more that's because Winmo has been on the stage for years and it's come to an end with WP7. There'll ben no upgrade or anything for oldschool winmo devices. Also winmo is quite heavy if you don't have a dragon inside your phone while android works very well with a 600mhz chip. As a matter of fact sometimes my Legend reacts faster than my HD2. And Android market is expanding faster than any other platform so there's no point in winmo anymore. Enjoy your nice designed eye-candy piece of technology as most of us do and forget about winmo the history )))

I noticed with you. In fact Android on speed and lightness of the system is perfect. Meanwhile I will use I HD2 and legend waiting for WM7.
Would it be possible to put a cooked WM ROM on Desire HD? I ask this because I plan to buy one and I only have experience with WM (on my Kaiser and HD2)...

since u have hd2, load up desire hd android build and start getting the feel of android.. Its not that complicated to get used to
...alternative?
Thanks jjblaster3. Considering this, is there a "best phone" which would "accept" both OS with decent, comparable performance?

currently HD2 ftw(thanks to the awesome beast, snapdragon processor)..
supporting 3 OS's; winmo, linux and hopefully soon to come windows phone 7..
notice that i used the term linux instead of android coz linux is general term for all the distro's (android, ubuntu, meego, etc)
currently only ubuntu and android are present but i heard people were starting to work on meego however no progress so far
ok, understood... but... the desire hd will also have a snapdragon processor, so is this the only reason?
The fact is, the HD2 was a gift for my wife and she seems to be happy with it, so I would need another device, hopefully with even better performances and flexibility concerning the usable OS (I am more "involved" in the technical domain, wishing also to try some programming/cooking)...

the fact that most of the other new android phones like the nexus one and evo 4g are based on snapdragon similar to hd2, makes porting drivers n all much simpler..
the fact that hd2 has a snapdragon, makes the performance quite similar (or shud i say better compared to all those other devices having msm 7*** processors, like the kaiser for example)
the desire hd snapdragon is abit different (i think its better) but well the android build runs perfectly well on hd2 (maybe that it just demands a bit more ram than other sense builds for its extra visual impressions, rotation support n all) but nothing that the hd2 cant handle
well i guess the current winmo phone out there with the best performance is the hd2..
i dont think they will get any better in terms of winmo (havent heard of any new devices apart from the chinese OBOE which is similar to hd2)
i cant say for sure if any of the future android or windows phone 7 devices will have the same fate (dual booting/triple booting OS's)
as for now i see no hope in android being capable of doing that (unless maybe its just dual booting linux, i read thats possible)
and as for windows phone 7, we just have to wait for its release first (if there's no delays its gonna b this month) and then for the devs at xda to try and find ways to make dual booting to android for it possible.. ONLY TIME WILL TELL.
so my suggestion would be to wait until you get to see all the possibilities among different varieties and then make the ultimate choice..
(as for me im stuck with the hd2 and wont b able to replace it anytime soon, just a 16 yr old student without a job so i consider myself lucky to even have 1, but my love for this phone increases day by day)
The Desire HD IS in some parts better than our beloved HD2 but for running another OS it's the best device so far! As mentioned you can boot Windows Mobile, Android and Ubuntu! Meego is a 'Work in Progress' and even Cotulla seems to have succesfully bootet Windows Phone 7 through his own bootloader! What other mobile device could handle so much OS's?
See, the Desire HD has a QSD8255 (45 nm), 768 MB RAM, 2 GB ROM, a 8 MP camera with 720p video recording and the new Adreno-205 GPU! The HD2 has a QSD8250 (65 nm), 576 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM (1024 for US model), 5 MB cam without 720p video recording! You see, the Desire HD HAS better hardware but our HD2 can handle the Android OS from Desire HD, you only need to look into the Android section for HD2! Only cam isn't working till now but it will in the future, I think!
Edit:
You can compare both devices here: HTC Desire HD and HTC HD2
Hi guys!
I want to know if is possible to install hd 2 rom (like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=607437) on my hd mini.
Thanks!
Do not even try - the hardware of HTC HD and HTC HDmini is too different.
Never attempt HD2 ROMs on HD Mini, but you can try those from Aria, since they are at only slightly different in hardware
