Hi guys,
I am using shubCRAFT version of Android for Leo and I am really happy with it.
So, I like to do some customization on my phone, but I don't know is it possible to install
any CM6 theme. I tried with ROM manager, but unsuccessful..
any tips?
thx in adv.
Tip one, read and search, then if still in doubt, read and search, also, read and follow forum rules.

this is actually a good question considering our htc hd2s aren't the typical android devices...I'd be quite intrigued to know how to install themes myself. Yes there is a theme forum dedicated to this but to be frank for the linux and adnroid n00b it is both difficult to follow and broad.
I'd like to see a good write up about this personally

I would be interested in understanding how to theme the android on HD2 as well!
i do not think that the rules valid for native Android phones are applicable in this case.

I agree. I have noticed in the market there are other apps like PandaHome etc and I have also noticed that there are themes associated with them. I have not tried any of these yet, but i might soon.
What's the worst that can happen, right? (Famous last words...)

Android rules apply. Depending on what you want themed, there are lots of tutorials on it in the android section.
I always use adb push... after I've customized what I want via drag and drop using an archive manager like 7zip or fileroller on linux.
I'll be putting a tut up on my site soon but in the meantime feel free to ask any questions here or via twitter.

good call.... for right now, ADB or droid explorer are about the only ways that moving files to/from android are possible since we cant flash a theme via recovery.

ADB push will work for just about anything as long as you have SU or root access. If you get errors or ADB says that permission denied you will need to either mount /system or adb shell and then type su to get superuser permissions
like stated above if you have questions, you can hit me up via twitter. its alot faster than the messages here mainly because i can reply on the go without having to use the web or anything.

check out following thread to upload custom ring tones..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=548432
You dont even have to push files using adb.
Make a folder on your sd card as:
media/audio/ringtone
media/audio/notification
media/audio/alarm
Store your tones in these respective folders and you are good to go.
just open up a zip file from a complete rom, media folder, copy audio folder and push, paste or copy it. either in /system/media or /data/media.

thank you sooo much, this was so simple and effective for a newbie like me.
i love you!!!
This post has nothing to do with apps or games.
So I'm moving it to General.
FYI,
I would dare to say that for most members that the majority of the posts SHOULD be in the myTouch 3G, Magic General sub-forum. There are some exceptions.
If you developed or ported or modified a rom. This would go in myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development.
If you are discussing an app from Market or any other third party source(not warez!). This would go in myTouch 3G, Magic Apps and Games.
If it is not a complete rom... but a modification of the rom to give it a different look of some kind. This relates to boot screens, animated startup screens, wallpapers, etc. It would go into myTouch 3G, Magic Themes and Wallpapers.
If it is regarding a headset, replacement battery, faceplates, dock, cradle, charger, screenprotectors, stylus etc. This would go in myTouch 3G, Magic Accessories.
I realize that most of you already know this and follow it... however this is obviously a case where it needs be explained and you would not believe how many threads I move on a daily basis because so many do not seem to understand or grasp this concept.
Ringtones most certainly do not fall under applications so I took the liberty of moving this for the OP. Thanks to all that helped the member and I hope that this message from me will help with any confusion that may be out there about where to post new threads.
Also take this into consideration; I would dare to say that just about every question has been asked before. And most questions that were asked were resolved by an answer. Which means that it is SOMEWHERE here in the forums already. So you have two options:
The slow and lazy way, which is to post a new thread and if it has been asked several times before you may only going get harrassed. If you don't get harrassed you still have to wait for an answer. That could be minutes to never.
-or-
The quick and easy way, which is to use the forums search feature. Obviously this is what we recommend.
It's but ultimately it's up to you. We'll be here on a daily basis to answer your questions/concerns and to help you the best that we can.
Thanks again for your attention.
There has to be a guide somewhere for those of us that have no idea how to get rooting done. Toast, Unrevoked..Geez! Where do you begin?
I am a convert from winmo so this is all new to me...I am fairly clear with Toast's instructions, but a video or pic tutorial would be greatly appreciated. I did some moderate reading on this, and would still feel far more comfortable "seeing" it done!

you begin with the post entitled "{tutorial} how to root \0/" in the Android Dev section. i'd post a link, but i'm a lowly new user.
looks like windows adb utils are included in the evo-recovery zip, i'm on linux and had the android sdk installed anyway.
Adb is in the android sdk.
Follow the instructions in the tutorial in dev section.
Cmon guys work a little for it.

i think folks who are new to this need a guide to all the acronyms floating around. i mean how many new users konw what "adb" is? its Android Debugging Bridge...
there just needs to be a fundamental guide.. nuts and bolts.. to get people in tune with the process THEN they can start the actual root sequence...

There are really tons of stuff, you just need to search in the development section.
Anything worth doing takes effort. All the answers are around if you look. Not trying to sound snarky or elitist but just like you I had to spend time looking for my answers.

Bloody hell, use the search function! It isn't difficult!
Having said that, this is a complete guide to doing so. And yes, the ROMs tend to be multi-lingual and a lot support RTL writing for Arabic. It should state in the OP if it does.

I've clicked on the link you've suggested and I can't follow it myself, How's this poor fella in Egypt going to ????
Google Video is your best friend!
Jayceooi hd2 video tutorials are very clear and simple to follow!
Download the videos and watch them over and over again until you get it!
Once you have had sufficient exposure to the process of installing nand android (like original) come back to xda and read the tutorials just to make sure the information is up to date!
Don't rush! Keep watching the videos until you "get it"!
Download the files needed to flash. Place them in folders numbered to the sequence required for installation.
I know you feel a little inundated now but once you watch the videos it will make sense!

As you are a native English speaker (or have a bloody good translator) you should EASILY be able to follow that guide. I'm 14 and I could, and I had literally no experience of anything like this beforehand. @lunchmoney (lol) jayceooi's tutorials are indeed very good, and show the step-by step-with text + have links to the XDA threads for downloads and he also answers all his questions on his website.
SD roms that load with haret
Do all sd builds load using haret? For example: Could I run ICS beta 2 using haret?
Thanks for the support...
So as everyone has probably noticed alot of people have opted-out of the X10 community, developers and consumers alike.
I have this phone for another year so I would like to learn how to create rom's and kernels so I can contribute back to those who have help fed my flash addiction.
Where do I start??
Thanks in advance for the input,

It won't come to you automatically guys .
Read through the forum , Read Read & Read .
Experiment things .. You'll get lots of headaches , But it'll be worth it .
& Then ask for help , There should be a issue to solve right .
Thanks Oodie. I didn't know there was an entire section of the forum dedicated to this as well.
Nathvader check this out.
Oh well would you look at that! Ok everybody I should have ICS port and kernel up and running by tomorrow...
hehe jk will start small thanks for the help Oodie love your roms btw!
Also good luck Dragon Outlaw King!

I believe you can develop in whatever environment/OS you want, but you will need a working knowledge of linux to be able to work on kernels especially and ROMs too (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Root your phone without unlocking the bootloader. How? A new application called UnlockRoot does it all for you! Literally, all you need to do is download the UnlockRoot.exe, run it and enjoy your new rooted device. I can confirm that it is 100% working and took about 2 minutes from start to finish.
All you have to do is connect to your computer, enable USB debugging which is accessible through Settings>applications>devlopment>USB debugging
open UnlockRoot.exe and click root, after that it should take the comp. 1 min tounlock then 1 min to reboot then voila you have it rooted! You will then see the superuser app inside your app drawer. I recommend you to download busybox and titanium backup to have full control on your device. I've just rooted my xperia play and my wife's arc s using method. Both of them are running v2.3.4 so this should work on lower versions.
If there will be an instance wherein your device didn't reboot automatically, manually restart your device.

First of all that is not my site and i'm not a spammer. I only posted this method in two different forums, the other one is in the android general hacking tips. The only reason why i mentioned the site is because i'm having problems uploading the unlockroot.exe launcher in this thread. As you can see,i'm only a new member and i don't usually start threads. I'm just trying to help because i had a lot of frustrations using other rooting methods. I have a descent job and i'm not gonna benefit in spamming so don't accuse me. I just felt very excited to share this method as this worked like a charm for my xperia play. I'm not forcing you to try this so ban me if you feel like doing so.

No, offense, but if you post directly to their home site, it makes it seem a lot more legit than just posting a link to your download account.

Sorry bro but i already did that when i started this thread. I just edited my post because that d31boy guy is accussing me of being a spammer and just promoting that site.
When I see a brand new poster posting a link to relatively unknown website for use of an unknown exe file, it's hard not to be suspicious. I mean, you obviously know the benefits of root and you know your way around this site. The site has absolutely no mention of how the root is applied (which isn't your fault provided you don't have an affiliation to the site ). It's a pretty big leap of faith.
However, I may have jumped in a bit too quick on this one. It would have been better just to report the post and allow a mod to make a more informed decision. For that, I apologise.
All this method is, is the zergRush method with a different name...
Here's what I did (quick run thought of what i did, attached screenshot for reference)
Downloaded it from the OP's post (http://unlockroot.com was running at 2000BYTES/SEC)
Installed it on my XP partition
rebooted, went to my linux partition
Mounted XP Partition
went to \Program Files\Unlockroot\tools\
Copied rootutility to /home/myusername/
adb shell rm -r /data/local/tmp
adb shell mkdir /data/local/tmp
adb push rootutility /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/rootutility
adb shell /data/local/rootutility
