Rattling Noise? - Vibrant General

My Vibrant VERY noticeably 'rattles' whenever it vibrates. Does anyone else have this issue? Should I warranty it?

Check your volume rocker.

Wow this is exactly what is rattling.
Any fix for this?

I use a the black case from T-Mobile (amazing). I have no issues with it now... you could probably return it... I think there was a thread on here, but I do not recall a fix. I would encourage going into the store and seeing if they will give you the case for free rather than swapping phones..... worst case, later on you can swap and you have a free case for it? May work... when I bought my phone I was given $40 in accessories so it was free, makes me think they would not care. retail its like $17 I think.

I took my pho e back for that problem and they gave me a new one said its a manufacturer defect

I wouldnt say its a manuf. defect. The volume rocker is loose, slides up and down in its recessed location. Vibration will make it vibrate/rattle, of course.

^ he didn't, T-Mobile did.

The build quality on these phones are below par the hardware is nice the exterior was really skimped on. Thats why the captivate has a different body. If you put it side by side to the vibrant the build quality and materials are leaps and bounds over the vibrant.

So many defects with the G1....

Ok, I purchased an ADP1 last month and have been running into issues since.
So far:
1. Phones been creaky. I had to fix this by putting electrical tape on the chin of the phone.
2. The earpiece makes a buzzing noise, occasionally harder to hear than the caller on the other end. Had to fix this with more electrical tape on the earpiece.
3. The back battery case was making a chirping noise when I held it with my hand. Had to apply electrical tape on the inside of the case to fix that.
4. Now -- Just discovered that my pictures I take have a huge black spot on each of them (I've attached a picture as an example... the spot is usually noticeable during the day time/outside, but thats a picture against a white wall). Does anyone know how to fix this issue/experience this problem as well?
So many problems with this product is really starting to piss me off. Can anyone offer any suggestions on #4? I've fixed the others with tape. But I just discovered #4 and I'm really beginning to lose patience here.
Defective phone, return it for a new one.
Yeah I would say that you have a defective phone need to look into getting it replaced or return for another one. As for number 4 the only thing I can think of is something on the camera lense or the backcover of the phone but that would be to easy

Yeah, well actually I fixed the buzzing noise with black electrical tape on the keyboard ends. I havent heard the noise since.
As far as the spot goes on my camera lens, I'm going to write a perl script that undertakes gimp and automatically eliminates dust from any pictures I take with the click of a button. Hopefully that will fix that issue.
I'd hate to send it in too and get a 'refurb' that has different problems etc.
Open up the back cover and wipe the camera. Maybe that spot is just a spot on the lens.

Refurbs don't always have "different problems" a refurb is a remanufactured device. Which in most cases is better off then a "Brand New" phone because they go through more testing. I have a "refurb" because of the creaking and I have not experienced anything wrong with this device, and have had it for about 2 months. Not always the case but why "put up"with something that you can have fixed. Also refurbs are not always returned devices due to failure, granted the majority are but some also come back as "buyers remorse" type return. "I didn't like it, I don't want it."
Sorry for the long post but point is don't just "put up" with something because of the misconception that because you are getting a refurb it will automatically have problems. You are just cutting yourself short and will never be happy with your device.

Sooth. The refurb I'm running (TMo forced me to RMA my initial one in November due to a dead cell tower in my neighborhood) was in better condition than my first one. I love customers at my job that whine, piss and moan about receiving a refurb as a replacement. New items aren't tested and there is an acceptable failure rate out of the box. That's the way it is with EVERY equipment manufacturer where as refurbs are tested and repackaged. Personally, I'll buy used if it was tested as functional and comes with the same warranty (which generally happens). But today's generation is now now now, new new new = better better better.
lol i was typing from g1 so i felt the post was getting to long thus i left out the testing that refurbs go thru. i hear this all day, this is always the biggest complaint but people really dont understand what goes into remanufacturing a device
how about removing the electrical tape from the camera lens.
Just a thought
Ok, well im considering returning it back to brightstarcorp.
There they have to conduct "testing" to determine whether its a hardware problem and its "damaged" or "defective"
Would a dust speck fall under this category?

Loose feeling buttons on the HD2 (Does your phone have this too?)

On the front of the HD2, on the panel for the buttons, the panel is well how do I say this, loose. Not to the point where its faulty, but enough to annoy me. I went today and returned my HD2 for a new one which still had this problem. Really its just a small movement but i was wondering if all devices are like this.
Waiting for your reply's,

Dosent hurt . Better than my old HD2 where the panel actually squeaked on the back button. Things like this that make me envy the buttons on the EVO and the Nexus. Damn you HTC
My front panel buttons don't even budge. Same for my volume button.
Weird?
Seems like some devices were damaged during shipping or something. I guess it bugs me to have a device worth 500-600 dollars and then have a loose panel on the front. Ill give it a week and i might go back to T-Mobile and make sure i get a good one
I thought that is how the buttons were. It's one long piece of plastic inserted between the glass screen. It can't be metal cause it might scratch the sides or something. The buttons on my HD2 has a small wiggle to it, but I've never seen anything otherwise. (with those type of buttons)
The HD2 is a quality device. After checking the volume buttons and the quality of the case, it just seems to me that that's the best those buttons can be at this time period. What do you guys think?
Month and a half of use - all are very tight/firm. Do get from time to time a little sticking noise on the power button but that seems to be fading. They should have been individual buttons instead of the single strip and have mechanical keys that were made of metal. Mine is the US version TMobile. Very solid phone. No complains so far and compared to my previous phones - TYTN I / TYTN II, Fuze this one seems to be built the best. No flex - super solid. The only thing that seems to be better built is the iPhone. Their latest version 4 seems super solid although I'd never buy it.
The buttons on my device are a bit loose too. Not when you simply press it but when you actually try to move them a bit. Anyway I can't be more descriptive LoL.
Nothing very annoying, I guess it's like the other poster said, a bit of plastic inserted between the screen. I had my doubts when I first got it (given that my Rhodium's buttons couldn't been more tight), but I can live with that. Like I said, not very irritating. The volume buttons though are very tight!

[Q] How Loose is Your Hinge?

The subject of this thread says it all, how loose is the hinge on your G2?
OPTIONS DEFINED
Very Loose = keyboard opens on its own, doesn't remain closed when held upside down or sideways, screen wobbles when typing on it
Loose = keyboard opens with some effort (jiggling/shaking), opens a little bit when held upside down or sideways
Not Loose = keyboard feels secure, doesn't open on its own, keyboard remains closed when held upside down or sideways
Mine = very loose (after one week of use)
I think you need to add some objective qualifiers/descriptions for each of the categories to make this thread even remotely meaningful. The descriptions in the poll choices are completely subjective. What makes "extremely loose" different from " somewhat loose" or "not loose"? For instance, I've read some people's screens wobble when the keyboard is open and they are typing. Does yours do that? Is it looser now that one you first received it?
Mines not at all then again I don't really use the keyboard. I can hold it upside down and it won't unhinge, it does feel wobbly whenever I type on the keyboard though.

Mine is very loose. It was nice & tight when I first got it, but about one week after receiving it (brand new) it's now very loose.
mine is pretty loose. it was when I got it and it hasn't gotten any worse. at first I was really annoyed but honestly, I got used to it and don't care anymore. I know that might sound hard to believe but it's true for me at least.
it only comes open at a strange angle that its never actually in. I can make it come open by itself but it never has just during regular use. the only part that still bothers me really that there is a give to the screen when using the touchscreen with the keyboard out. but just in terms of functionality, there's really no effect.
Please make sure you vote by selecting one of the radio buttons at the top of the first page.
Also worth mentioning about my phone is that it opens slightly when I pick it up from a flat surface (e.g. desk, table), so I have to remind myself to pick it up from the bottom of the phone versus just the top or sides.
My impression from reading the various threads on this topic is that the phone is not designed to stay closed when held upside-down or sideways. I haven't seen anybody mention theirs staying closed under these conditions. But I would be curious to hear if there are some like that.
Mine opens by itself when upside-down or sideways. But I have to try very intentionally to hold only the keyboard part, and not touch the screen part at all. Its so awkward and unnatural to hold the phone this way, that I'm on the verge of dropping the phone. Its never opened unintentionally from normal use. The screen does not wobble at all when the keyboard is open. I guess that makes mine "somewhat loose". The phone is exactly one month old, and the looseness does not see to have changed over that time period.
redpoint73 > Does your screen open up at all when you pick up your phone when it's laying down on a table or other flat surface? That's what bothers me the most about this loose hinge. Every time I pick up my phone I am reminded at how loose the hinge is.

Maybe just a tiny bit (almost imperceptibly). Only noticeable by the fact that if I drop the phone lightly in the palm of my hand, I can hear the two halves "flop" back together lightly. This is the only case where I can raise a criticism (and a very minor one at that) regarding the hinge. I would prefer it to be tighter in the closed position, but it really doesn't bother me. Mostly only when I read threads like this that make me think about it

I saw that thread. I don't know if it bothers me enough to add magnets. I would also be concerned about the effect the magnets would have on the phone's magnetic compass.
My one would go to "very loose" categorie :-( Keeping in mind that my phone is just 3 weeks old, it's realy sad...

I did an online chat with a TMO rep today, and will be doing an exchange for my phone. Unfortunately they will be shipping me a refurbished one, even though my phone is just one week old. The TMO rep stated that "the loose hinge is a known issue," and if that's the case why are they not exchanging this phone with a new one? Seriously pisses me off.
Don't you have trading standards or some regulatory body like that who can advise on your rights? A refurbished item in exchange for something a week old?.... that wouldn't happen here in the UK.
Mine is firm. and I got mine the first day radio shack started selling them which was 3 months ago if I remember correctly never had a problem texting upside down at all and never oppend byitself and best of all never exchanged it either 8D

Don't stand for that. Call, talk to technical support, state your case and when they tell you they can't do anything because it's a known issue, ask for a supervisor, or customer loyalty.
They will send you a new phone, but I can assure you that the hinge will be just as loose as the one your exchanging it for. I'm 100% convinced it's designed that way.
For those who don't know me here, I previously owned the MT4G. I experienced major issues with the phone and exchanged it a total of FOUR times, meaning I had in my possession (not at once) a total of five MT4Gs. The first four phones had incredibly bad creaking buttons, the fifth one had perfect buttons but a washed out display. I refused to continue going the route of MT4G swapping, so they suggested me going with a different phone, and I chose the G2. The G2 they sent me arrived last week, brand new in a prestine unopened box. The hinge was perfect, not too tight and definitely not loose like it is now. Each day it got a little bit looser, and now it's just ridiculously loose to the point that it opens no matter how I hold it.
So, maybe they're shipping me this refurb because I've already gone through so many exchanges, but two of their top phones have so many issues that it just makes me sick. With all the issues with the G2, MT4G and Vibrant, I'm shocked I haven't heard about any lawsuits against TMO. Or at the very least, I think TMO should be proactive about this and admit that there are problems with these phones, and that they should be more than willing to do whatever it takes to make sure the customer is happy. I have to say I was treated very well during all those MT4G exchanges, and I feel they did everything they could to make sure I was a happy customer. But, I'm still not thrilled being told that I need to accept a refurb for a G2 that was technically brand new and just one week old.

This.
My hinge is somewhat loose. It doesn't bother me at all, it doesn't affect daily use. I notice people on this forum and others are too caught up on this non-issue imo. Honestly if your one of those people where a loose hinge is gonna bother you, you might as well get another phone. No point in getting a replacement G2 for a loose hinge when its most likely gonna be the same.

It is an issue because some people have received a G2 that has no problems whatsoever with the hinge and others have received a G2 with a loose hinge (like myself). I'd be totally fine with the phone if everyone's phone was the same, but knowing that some have a normal/strong hinge (not loose) and mine is super loose makes me feel like I'm not getting exactly an issue-free phone. No way in hell was this phone designed to be loose like that. It shouldn't open up the second I pick it up off the table, but no matter how I pick it up or hold it the screen moves around or opens up. It's just not right. If it stayed closed until I gave it some force to actually open up, I'd be totally fine with it. Once it's open the looseness doesn't bother me one bit, but I can't have a phone that refuses to stay closed when it should be closed.
As I understand it (so take this with a grain of salt), this isn't illegal (at least in the US) and is actually standard practice for many companies (to use refurbished stock for warranty replacements and new ones if that stock has been depleted). If you have ever filed a warranty claim on a defective laptop for example, odds are you will receive a refurbished one in replacement (or if they are repairing it by replacing the motherboard, it'll most likely be with a refurbished board). In fact most warranties (probably all) clearly state replacements may either be new or refurbished. This is probably why you haven't heard about any lawsuits. Add to this the fact that this particular issue is very subjective (as you've probably noticed just by how dismissive many of the users are on the forum with regards to the issue) and making a legal case becomes even tougher. Also, unless T-Mobile or HTC has officially stated this to be an actual defect (and not just an offhand comment of a customer support rep), they can simply say it was working as designed (or at least within the spec'ed tolerances). While it all definitely feels unfair in some situations, it's unfortunately just how it is with US consumer protection laws. They have no obligation to replace your unit with a new one, only a working one. I believe if the replacement they send you is defective as well, you can get a refund for the phone (T-Mobile's policy).
That being said, if you are upset about it, I agree that you should try talking to T-Mobile again. Make a big fuss about it to them. More times that not, they would rather appease the customer than lose one or face bad press. With your phone being only a week old, maybe you can ask if they would do something like issue you a refund and then place another order for a new phone?

Motomaker Quality Control Issues

First off let me say I love this phone, I really do but Motomaker has been leaving me a little sad.
So I started off by getting a 16gb model straight from AT&T since I'm not a patient person but after a bit I wanted 32gb so I sold the 16 and made one off contract on Motomaker.
The first Motomaker phone I got had scratches and dents on the screen bezel and it also looked like it had issues with the fusing as some of the plastic seemed to have gotten well into the screen.
I got a replacement and their advanced RMA was great and incredibly fast, however, the second one I got has a different issue. The power button on the new one doesn't seem to be seated right and sits lower than my previous two as well as being harder to press and not giving good tactile feedback..
Looks like I'm going to have to RMA again once I get the money back on my credit card.
Moto X you are amazing but something with the quality control is a bit lacking.
I had similar issues with my first phone. The power button was seated the same way you described, making it very difficult to actually use. The volume rocker was the exact opposite though, the whole button wobbled within the phone's frame, making it feel cheap. I requested a RMA saying that I wanted to swap colors, and only changed my accent color. The buttons on this phone are much more firm/usable.
I hope whatever issues there are down in Texas can get resolved soon. I really like this phone and Motorola to succeed but QA problems will give it a bad rep.
They didn't seem to care when I told them the damage I think if you bother calling they will change it.
i hope they get it right. mine came in with no issues. so they are capable of getting it right the fist time lol. i totally agree that they have issues though, my brother's veizon pre-order led is not near as flush as the one on my phone.
The Rogers ones I've seen (assembled in China) including mine are all flawless.
The one I got (no customization, Verizon) *works* fine but on the front-facing camera, I've noticed the felt ring is not seated correctly and creeping over the lens a little. Although I doubt Moto would give me an rma, it seems like a manufacturing defect.

I have a t mobile one and noticed it has a small scrape on the bottom back and a few plastic molding issues.
I am actually returning it now since I noticed there's eBay sellers selling black and white xt1058 models that are unbranded for significantly less. Made in China units but I figure I'll save $120 over an american unit and be fine with it. I'm in refarmed area so I don't care about the aws hspa and the non att xt1058 can have unlocked boot loader / no bloatware. Maybe the Chinese have better quality
At least, each time you replace a moto maker device you get a $10 play store credit (unless they fixed that loop hole) and supposedly the return process is easy and if you can float the $650 hold you can get it replaced without any down time.

I know what you guys mean with the manufacturing issues. My rear camera literally has a little piece of Texas in it. I noticed when I pulled it out of the box that the lens had a little speck of tan on it. However it won't wipe off, and closer inspection revealed it was on the other side of the lens!
Doesn't seem to affect the pictures at all though, so I doubt I'll get it replaced over that. But I'm sure gonna bring it up if I ever try! :fingers-crossed:

So, my display is going out...:crying: It will intermittently flash on and off for no reason. The digitizer still works, even when I can't see anything I can still feel it vibrating in my hand. This also pretty much breaks Active Notifications. :crying: And Touchless Control..:crying: And twist-to-camera...:crying:
Needless to say, I have a new one coming from Verizon tomorrow. And I definitely told them about the speck in my camera too. The lady at Verizon had the nerve to ask me if I had a memory card for my phone. I told her that unfortunately the designers at Motorola had taken that option away from me. I hope they at least send me some screen protectors or something for my trouble......because I thought I was doing a good thing supporting the workers in Texas.
UPDATE
My display went the rest of the way out last night. This resulted in a useless paperweight that vibrated occasionally. The worst part of it, is that I couldn't use Motorola Migrate to get my old info! Because the screen wouldn't come on, I couldn't see the QR code to start the wifi transfer. HOWEVER, after much anguish and profanity, I managed to get Moto Migrate to connect WITHOUT THE QR CODE!! I couldn't find this method listed in any literature, but it worked for me, and my non-displaying screen.
1) The old Moto X must have the NFC on! That is the key to this. Thankfully, I had NFC on prior to my screen breaking, so I didn't have to blindly try and toggle it on. Also turn it on for the new Moto X
2) If you're like me, and your screen won't work, then you can't see the Migrate app. Thankfully, you can just use Touchless Control to open it. "Okay, Google Now. Open Migrate" Give it 15 seconds and it should be open.
3) In my case, I had to tell my new phone to accept Migrations, and tell the old phone to send them. Settings in the top right corner, and then a toggle button in the middle of the screen. (I just used my new Moto X to judge the rough placement on my broken one, and it was easy)
4) Finally, touch the backs of the phone together, and tap the screen on the NEW Moto X to use Android Beam which pairs the phones and begins Migration of old info!
Note: I got the pairing backwards the first time, and sent settings from my new phone to my old one. This didn't appear to hurt anything, but that's why I specify you make the new Moto X the receiver.
Sorry for the HUGE update guys, but this is important information. It saved my ass, to mention an enormous headache. So I hope that anybody else trying to pair Motorola Migrate with a broken screen finds this post!! :good:

I just picked up a 6P and found 2 issues.

Hello there. I bought a 6P 2 days ago and I noticed that the volume button is a bit loose and makes rattling noises when I shake it by touching it (without pressing it) or when I shake the phone or put on a table. The power button is ok.
Also maybe it's my imagination but the upper speaker seems a bit louder than the bottom one and slightly richer in sound quality.
Are those issues supposed to be normal? Does all 6P have loose volume buttons which rattle?
Here is a video which shows the issue on a Nexus 5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7R4xncTGLaU
The volume buttons are loose on almost all 6P's!! Not sure about the speakers though.

Does yours have the same issue with the volume button?

Yep, it isn't noticeable in normal use though, I really don't care about it
I just received my 6p a few days ago and I don't have either of those issues. It could be associated with a build lot or be specific to the type of Nexus 6P. I have the Graphite one - 64GB. Or, I could be lucky. hope it works out for you.

I also don't have either of those issues. I would RMA. Especially if the volume rocker is loose. Mine is very snug and going on little over 2 months of use.
Are you sure its not the camera that make that sound ? Because it is normal

Yes it's not the camera. When I gently touch the volume button and move it sideways it rattles. If I hold the volume button and shake the phone there is no rattling. The volume button is loose and moves sideways touching the metal body of the phone thus makes this noise.
I came to the 6P from the S6 edge+ which was superior in build quality and the 6P doesn't seem that premium if it has those issues (I just missed the vanilla android and the timely updates too much and returned). Rattling is not normal at all on any phone except if it's poorly made. The only problem is that I have to return the phone back to the store I bought it and wait some days without a phone until they fix it or smth.

No buttons on the 6p should be loose. If any buttons are loose return it for a new one.
My buttons are nice and snug, my speakers though my top one is louder than the bottom at low volumes. I saw another thread where just about everyone on that thread agreed it was normal. I did RMA which it should get here today but it was for something different.

Exactly this. The top speaker sounds louder than the bottom. In the first day I thought it was my imagination. Volume above 80% seems to cover up the issue because the top gets too loud the let you perceive the difference. My volume button is loose and rattle quite a lot even when I simply touch it without pressing it. It's annoying because it feels like something is broken. I didn't by it from Google cause in my country there is no Google store for devices so I have to return it from where I bought it and wait some days. That's really annoying but I have no other choice it seems. Not very happy considering this phone advertised as premium quality one.
I haven't noticed any difference in speaker volume but will listen out for it.
My last 6P that I returned had a very soft power button such that even picking up the phone with a light grip just to hold the thing turned the screen on, similarly very soft volume buttons. The replacement that I am using now has much harder buttons that CLICK properly, so much better. They don't rattle or feel loose either.

This is the loose volume button problem I'm talking about. Note that I don't even press the button just touching it. Is this considered a defect?

Yes I that is defective. I would get a replacement.
My current 6p nor original 6p have/had loose volume buttons. They do not all have it.
Today I sent it back at the store I bought it. They didn't seem very happy when I told them about the problem. They told me this may fall within the tolerance of the phone thus it may not be replaced or fixed. My top speaker also had louder sound than the bottom something that is very wrong for stereo speakers. In landscape more sound comes from the left side and it's really obvious. It will take few days before I have an answer. Considering the price of the phone which costs 650 euros for the 32gb in my country I'm not that happy with those 2 issues and can't really ignore them especially that button which rattles all the time. I have a feeling that they will not do anything. They will most probably return it back and tell me the device is fine.

That's crap. You are entitled to get a device defect free. I would get upset with them and let them know their passive attitude is rude and infuriating. People will do more for those who cause a scene. Its unfortunate but its a game one must play sometimes. They are playing with you anyways. Trying to get you to accept flaws as "within operating specs" is insulting. They just don't want eat any costs. You could get it back and then sit on it and bend it. That should get them to trade it. If they doubt you just show them the video and the bend thread.

Or they will tell me that damages caused by bad usage is not covered by the warranty. Problem is in my country there is no Google Play Store for devices so Google can't really help me here. I'm at the mercy of the store owners and device's official representatives in my country. I really don't understand the term "within accepted tolerance". I mean who's deciding for what is accepted and what not. Rattling loose buttons are accepted tolerance? If one speaker is louder than the other in a stereo configuration is this too an accepted tolerance? I mean when you buy a home cinema which has one speaker louder than the rest is not considered defect? Would like to hear about that from a user with same issues who bought the device from within the EU but not from Google Play Store.
I have a 6P which is about 5 months old. I have none of these production issues. I would definitely bring it back and have it exchanged for a new one. The quality of my build is excellent. If you don't get satisfaction from your vendor, I would contact google and they can probably help you out. I have the silver model .

I would still contact google or someone higher up at the store you bought it from. Even though google doesn't sell directly to your country I'm sure you can contact them. It is their product. Also you could try and contact Huawei. I think you are just dealing with a jerk though. You are the customer here. Bad customer service really makes me angry. Especially when someone tries to invalidate your concerns so they don't have to put forth effort.
