Android 2.1 Update leaked - Streak 5 General

Over at MoDaCo, someone leaked the 2.1 upgrade for the Streak. Head over and check it out.
I'd try it for my US Beta version, but I left it at home. :/
http://android.modaco.com/content/d...l-streak-2-1-update-21-devices-download-here/

Isn't this the UK Beta 2.1? Last I heard it only for UK's baseband which will not work on US Streaks.

Fards had something to say that may be of interest:

.

Well, guess I'm going to have to wait.

this is only for uk streaks dont try on a us streak 21=uk 31=us 00= unlocked dell

Got 2.1 and its lovely! It urinates on os4 from a great height as it now has beauty as well as functionality.
Keyboard is better. Look and feel is better. Speed is fast. Camera feels faster but not by much. 720p video. Video recording can be triggered from you tube etc
photos are organized much better.

Is Multi-touch now supported system-wide? I think that full support for multi-touch enabled apps could be the biggest advantage after the speed boost...
What about 720p recording? Does it actually manage a decent framerate or are the stories of around 8fps true?

I tried that site several times with firefox and internet explorer, the site is down...
However, I found another site in which you can download the 2.1 update from mediafire and you get a download speed of 300kb/s!!
Here is the link & even instructions of how to do the update for those who do not know:
http://www.blogsdna.com/11786/how-to-update-android-2-1-eclair-on-dell-streak.htm

Just tried the New 2.1 update, much smoother, faster, all new icons, looks better, better graphics and just tried the camera, much quicker, much faster shutter & finally 720p recording mode in video!!

my streak's baseband ends with a 00 its an unlocked version directly from dell
any chance that i can get this update to work on it?

Hi
I'm looking to update to 2.1 but was hoping you could tell me if it would be best to back-up my dater on the phone first and if so what software should i use
Thanks

i think i just bricked mine, though it isnt a 00 and a uk version, locked to o2... so the question i have is am i screwed or any chance or getting it back to work.

guys, there is no way to permanently brick your device. if you find yourself stuck at dell logo or blank screen simply flash back to stock.

there are plenty of options open to you. browse Streak Android Development

I have a US unlocked Beta (ending in 00) and the 2.1 update went smoothly. No issues here.

Update does not work on US Direct from Dell $549.00
The 2.1 update does not work on the Streak I bought at full price from Dell. It says something about the serial number mismatch I assume it is not a UK serial so it rejected it. Did not brick it though. Just rebooted to the 1.6......

Froyo 2.2 & HTC Legend

Hi,
Please forgive me as I have been searching everywhere online and on the forum for my answer.
I have a HTC Legend (Virgin) that is unlocked - Running on Rogers.
1st Question: Is this phone Rootable? I have heard yes and I have heard no, based on the firmware that it is presently running.
2nd Question: Is it possible if the phone is rooted to flash a Basic 2.2 Android Rom (I personally don't use HTC Sense)
The reason I am asking as HTC Announced that 2.2 Will not be updated until Christmas time.
And Before anyone says I should have bought the NEXUS One - The reason - THE SIZE
That phone is huge, I previously had an Xperia X10, which was TOO Big and I quite like the build quality of the Legend.
Thanks for all your Help! I Greatly Appreciate it!
Yes the phone is rootable, but you're right it depends on what version you currently have installed. Check out the android development section to figure out what you can and can't do.
Froyo at christmas is incorrect.
Htc has said all current devices will have froyo before christmas. However speculation says the legend itself should most likely have it in or around august.
Next, if you manage to root your phone you can talk a look in the android development section(again) for the legend and you will find 1 or 2 froyo roms have been ported semi successfully. They work and run but have a few minor problems.
One is the cyogen mod 6 (I probably spelled it wrong)thread.
You cannot flash a stock version of froyo to the legend, you will have to use one of these roms.
Hope I could help. I'm looking at getting the virgin mobile legend myself soon. are you happy so far?
Thanks
Thanks for your info! I was just feeling a little overwhelmed with all the info as I am not really up with all the lingo.
To answer your question about the Legend, I love it! The build quality is Superior, it just fits in your hand so nicely, and looks good there as well.
I have had MANY cell phones in the last 5 years (Well over 40...) and this is one that I know I will keep for a long time... More so than the iPhone.
Cheers.

Hey,
To be honest I took it to an Unlocking place in Vancouver, It took them aprox 20 min to complete, It still has a few Apps for Virgin/Bell on the phone however no where does it have the Virgin Logo Etc. I use the Rogers APN Settings rogers-core-appl1.apn and it works flawless with 3G
I have not been able to get 2.2 onto this phone at this point, I may just wait until it's pushed out by HTC.
This sounds GR8!

Do You know what they did to the phone? To unlock it i mean....
I ordered Wildfire but changed my mind and changed the order to Legend...
A good choice i think...
Been using my KAISER for a looong time now and it's time for a retirement, i think
Just installed Donut Android on my KAISER but it soaks battery so i think i have to revert to WM 6.5 again....
I think i'll use it as a backup phone for some time
Does anyone know if tom tom works on Legend?
The unlock was done through the store so not quite sure on how it was completed. I have seen many websites that offer the unlock.
In regards to TomTom try the Google navigation. It's amazing. Works great and integrates with your contacts and the mapping program quite well. I find the voice to be quite rough. Hopefully they'll allow changes to that after its out is Beta.

I bought my legend at Virgin (349 CAD) and am running Rogers as well, to unlock it you need to purchased the unlock code from HTC by providing the phones S/N. Their are lots of places online that will provide the codes for $10-20, I haven't been able to find a free source.
Currently their is no software unlock for this phone.

I have the Virgin Mobile (Canada) HTC Legend and can confirm I was able to successfully unlock it for usage on Fido/Rogers. After this I upgraded the rom using a gold card to a stock HTC rom to remove the Bell/Virgin crapware.
After this I found the downgrade path to 1.31 which has successfully allowed me to have the phone rooted. Now I just need to wait for a good rom to be made with sense. So far all the roms I have tried do have their own issues like, camera problems, pinch zoom functionality...

U.S and 2.1

So is there anyone left who owns a US streak and is waiting for the official 2.1 like me?
Or am i dumb and not understanding why i shouldnt just root it to 2.1? Ha i asked because all of my friends have rooted to 2.1 but ive just been waiting paciently for the official OTA.

Because 1.6 works fine meantime?
There's 1000's of 1.6 users, no least of which are 2.1 updaters who backdated (notice i didn't say downgraded) after deciding that 2.1 was bollox!
If the official release of 2.1 offers no improvements over the beta i wouldn't bother getting to excited. IMO all the 2.1 did was to remove all the good stuff from 1.6 and update the standard browser that i never use anyway!
Okayy cool thankss

Sadly, the latest word from Dell's blogger is "before 2011", which I'm sure translates into "last week of December" unless of course it slips and they claim never to have said 'before 2011".
I'm hoping he just gave a safe window to prevent another release date fiasco. Hopefully it'll much sooner.

I'm still running vanilla and I will do so most likely until a "real" version of 2.x comes out and the chefs manage to build some clean custom ROMs.
I don't need all the latest and greatest crap someone decides to poke into it, just mean and lean and I'll decide what goes in it after.
We all in the same 1.6 boat, waiting for 2.1 and best for 2.2

Yea, Ill wait for the OTA release as well. Actually for what I have been using the Streak for, Kindle for Android, it works very well. After the release, I will decide if I want to use my EVO as a hot spot or go with the alternate sim card for T-Mobil. T-Mobil has better plans than AT&T.
imma have to wait to bc coming from windows mobile i dont understand anything about android
First time user of Android myself (this August), initially was going to wait then realised that, with Dells track record, that could take forever (and yes, 3months is forever in phone world!). So took my Dell 00 unrooted, upgraded to 02 v1.6 then 02 2.1 (all in one go), and still unrooted!
No issues (knock on wood) except the usual, which are regardless of version, i.e phone standby consuming power, slow(er) maps/GPS lock etc, which aren't really problems per-se.

2.2 Update news from Dell

I called Dell yesterday and they told me that the 2.2 OTA update did start rolling out yesterday (Jan. 12) for AT&T customers. They also said it will not hit every phone at the same time and could take the rest of the month before all phones receive the update notification.
Tnx for the update, but, considering how easy it is to get the unbloated 2.2, unless you are concerned about a warranty issue, why would anyone want a bloated locked down carrier rom?
Maybe there are some fixes some would like. I'm going to try it at least

I had several failures trying to update using the QDL tool. I finally tried one last with a different computer and it worked just fine.
I believe the problem I was having had to do with the drivers working with a 64bit OS. In the end I used an old Eee PC I have running 32bit Win7. I installed the drivers and everything worked without a problem.

Rolling out...
I know there are a lot of streak owners but why does it have to roll out?
they have a big enough network, we should at least be able to go to an AT&T store as soon as it is available, and get it. This is bull
not like im gonna load their slow bloated buggy unrooted mess anyway
but im hoping theres something new for the devs to cook new ROMS.

Don't hate on Dell, AT&T are clearly the bottle neck for their 2.2 update.

If dell wanted to really please its AT&T Tied customers they would just post a Link to the update. Hey, But that would be to much common sense. This is not a perfect world. Luckily there's QDL.

I tried countless hours(I think about 20+) trying to get QDL to work on 2 different computers. One was a 32 bit old XP, and one a new 64 bit W7. Eventually bricked my streak, using qdl. Took it back to best buy and got another. Not exactly brave enough to try it with my new one, so I am like you and waiting for the official.
I purchased my dell online included with stock 2.2. It seemed a bit laggy and had issues with the accelerometer. I flashed Steve's latest and am never going back!

Yup. According to the dell website it ships with 2.2 already installed in it. I'll confirm that wednesday when it comes in the mail.
i believe only unlocked devices come with 2.2, all locked devices are still stuck on 1.6 since carriers have yet to release an update for the streak
Last time I was on dells site, just last week, you could order with 2.2 or 1.6 and it is stated that they get 2.2 with ota. There was a slight price difference

How about we let people just be themselves. I know I'm not a senior member, but I see no need to censor anyone.
the multi-tasking resume time on apps seems to be faster from the beta. And overall seems faster response time. I would recommend a battery pull for everyone after the update also, that helped mine too.
I updated mine yesterday and it seems to be fine except for one thing. I used to get "H" all the time, now only 3G. Anyone experience the same issue? Pulled the battery a few times already and still the same.
Anyone else updated yet? Seem to be very few update reports, havent got it myself yet.
nothing for me yet
Well it would seem its tmobile blocking this update, my generic DVP got the prompt and updated ok while my tmo locked one still claims 7720 is up to date.
Such a disgraceful state that US carriers are so intent on blocking updates for the devices they carry and have effectively killed the market for true unlocked phones.
my att DVP when from the beta 7720.212 to 7720.219 and now it says its up to date, is that true or should I have 7740?

Yes, that's correct. 7720.219 is the latest firmware version.
The 7740 OS update was relatively minor and Dell has not released new firmware since the Mango release. Therefore, the firmware version number has not changed since Mango.

I have noticed this on my phone as well. I remember it showing 'H' more often with the 212 firmware than it does now. Similarly, I did not see 'H' very often prior to the 212 firmware.
I suspect my signal strength may be near to the borderline, as I haven't seen many other people mentioning this.
In the 212 firmware, Dell made some tweaks to improve signal strength (http://wmpoweruser.com/dell-venue-pro-users-new-fw-report/). Not sure if any of this changed in 219 - it's possible.
