Hi,
I've searched this forum and google for this problem but couldn't get an answer so far. My Legend isn't rooted and I'm using 2.05.405.2. Always after about 2 days my phone gets really laggy. For example pulling down statusbar can take up to 20 seconds until it reacts. Also when I get an incoming call, picking up can last up to 10 seconds. The only way to resolvethis so far is to reboot the phone, but thats exactly what I don't want. I tried several taskkillers without success, I then tried without any taskkillers, too. Also same behaviour. I just have a few apps installed:
- JuiceDefender
- Opera
- ES File Explorer
- MixZing
- Handcent
- Facebook
- SystemPanel Lite
- K9
I tried to get into SystemPanelLite when the phone gets laggy to see what process this is causing, but without any success. I'm really puzzled as I don't understand, why the system is getting laggy up to an unusable amount. I'm not a poweruser who is playing around every 5 minutes with his phone, just writing and reading some SMS, taking a look at facebook and reading and writing mails. Is this a common problem with the legend and everybody is used to it or is this a problem that only hits me for whatever reason? Oh, yes, the problem also existed with older firmware, too.
No such problem in my legend
My legend is very smooth

same here. No such problem in my Legend, it is too smooth.
Legend is known to be a snappy handset.
How much free memory do you have ?
Did you try uninstalling any third party apps to see if any of that is causing the trouble?
Thanks for the answers. I uninstalled now k9, JuiceDefender and ES File Manager, as these are the only one, that I have installed always from the beginning. I'll report back, if that helped.
have you got the facebook contacts bug where you've got about 50,000 duplicated contacts?

No, facebook runs just fine with contact-synchronisation and all.

It happened even to me during the first start-up. I decided to reset completely the phone and make a clean start-up. I believe you should very carefully during the first sync of gmail, facebook, etc. Leave the time to the Legend to sync properly and install one application behind the other.
After that my Legend is working fine
As I upgraded to the first 2.xxx firmware, I had it resettet to defaults, as I did the upgrade via USB. As far as I remember, synchronisation was done when I began to install apps. But I think, if the deinstallation of the mentioned applications doesn't resolve this issue, I will try to reset it, too...
I had similar behavior, when installing that Facebook update last week. Besides the published battery drain the phone became laggy and unresponsive. The dialer sometimes took 10 seconds to react! Sometimes I could not even take a call. The patch that came after to improve the battery drain didn't fix the lag issue for me.
So I uninstalled the complete facebook update via application menu and voila! No more lag. Everything is as snappy as before. Not even a reboot was required.
I just uninstalled the fb updates out of interest and my Legend was much quicker! Reinstalling the updates and it's still quick. I didn't notice the slowdown before. Thanks!
After uninstalling k9, JuiceDefender, ES File Manager and facebook updates along with disabling facebook for android, so that there is only facebook for sense there, these are the results after 2 days so far:
- phone is snappy as if it was turned on 5 minutes ago
- battery-life is much better! Without JuiceDefender it was about 8-10 hours with very slight usage, up to 36 hours with JuiceDefender... today, after over 42 hours my battery is at 32%, I played games, wrote some SMS, took some pictures and had a short call
So it has to be one of the above mentioned apps. From what I read up until now, my closest bet is the facebok-app, that could be interfering with facebook for sense. I will now reinstall k9, JuiceDefender an ES File Manager and report back again in about 2 days.
Edit: It seems to be that k9 is the reason for the lags... just some minutes after installing and configuring k9 I noticed some lag with scrolling in lists, uninstalled it again and the lag was gone...
Update:
I installed the updates for FB again and I'm using it as before. The phone is still very snappy, no sign of slowdowns. Next I will test JuiceDefender.
After testing a lot with uninstalling all apps and then step by step reinstalling I found the problem: It seems that JuiceDefender triggered for whatever reason the lag after about 2 days. At the moment I also don't have a need to reinstall it, as from my testings I found out, that my battery lasts for 2 days without JuiceDefender, with JuiceDefender it was just 4-5 hours more. This is with fb-updates hourly, gps always on, 2 IMAP-Accounts that are qurried via push, some sms a day and about half an hour telephone, slight internet browsing.
Glad to hear your phone is running better. As a side note, I still use Juice Defender but an old version 1.7.7 The development seemed to go off the rails after this version and i was not happy with any other the updates so I am sticking with this older version.
Still get about 2x the battery life using it.
I also having same problem and available free memory keeps on reducing . Though i installed juicedefender, i never uses that and kill using system panel. Will uninstall and check for 2 days

What is your general experience regarding stability with the T-Mobile hd2?
Mine so far has been lack luster. I love the phone, I just wish it was actually stable. My experience thus far has been-
Hangs at lock screen about 2-3 times per day
Texting occasionally lags heavily..
Music app has frozen once
1-2 times per day won't respond after returning lock mode, requires reset.
All the problems I have can be resolved by turning it off and on. So far, I've found myself resetting the phone 4-5 times per day. Anyone having the same experience? Any tips? It's been frustrating. Such an awesome phone, but sometimes it just locks up for no reason and I can't even make a phone call.

I've found it pretty stable. I have no problems... just as stable, if not more, than any of my previous WM devices. It'll lock up occasionally when I'm experiment with certain apps or settings, but never on normal usage.
Before I flashed to a custom ROM I had all kinds of problems with the phone. It was laggy and was almost unusable. After flashing to a custom ROM all those problems went away. Now I haven't had any problems with the phone and it is very stable now. I would recommend you flashing to a custom ROM if you haven't done so already.
Coming from an HD, I have been using custom ROMs for over a year. However, I haven't yet flashed a custom ROM on my HD2 simply because I have yet to find any problem with the stock ROM (mainly since it's completely up to date and the cooks are using it as their base). So far, I've had only one...maybe two freezes. I'll definitely start flashing custom ROMs once there's an update to manila, but till then, I'll prolly stick with this one (or until i get bored).
(Also, I am a very heavy user, so I'm pleased with just one freeze a week.)
Using stock rom, occasionally using Task Manager to kill something that's sucking CPU, but otherwise very stable. Only hit sleep-of-death twice so far, and rebooted only couple times to fix extreme lag from something unkillable and hidden.
Using my own 8GB SDHC class 6 (instead of crappy 16GB class 2) to cut down battery drain, and using only external GPS. Lots of registry tweaks to turn on power-management, and using BsB Tweaks.
Besides Opera 10 constantly screwing up virtual, runs mostly fine with Garmin Mobile XT, Google Maps, iGo8, Navizon (wow!).
No Problems, What a fine piece of Hardware.

Hello all,
I have had great stability out of this phone thus far. Only problem I had was a cab that I installed gummed things up for a while, uninstalled it and soft reset and all was good again.
Like any phone, if your going to tweak it or install cabs, do one at a time. Then test the results. See how it effects your phone.
Most of the complaints you hear are unfortunately from people that really don't know what their doing or dont do the research before doing stuff and just dive in installing everything they can get there hands on, and then the end up complaining in the end, giving a phone a bad rap.
Just my 2 "Sense".

Just got my Galaxy S yesterday, but had big problems with the Samsung apps right out of the box.
The main launcher would repeatedly lock up, it was totally unusable. After being frozen for a few minutes I would be able to kill twlauncher process, then it would start up again and run for a few seconds before freezing. I managed to download LauncherPro from the market place to replace it, which is much better.
However, the calendar is causing me grief now. It takes a long time to load, and is not particularly responsive, but the big issue is the battery usage.
1 hour 40 since unplugging and I'm down to 50% battery left (from a full overnight charge) - calendar is responsible for 17% of this(!) with 47 minutes of CPU usage. What is going on?!
Any advice on how to either fix this, or blitz the Samsung calendar app and use the standard google one?
Hi Meza1,
First thing to be aware of is that it takes about 5-7 days before the battery starts to settle down, the first 2 days are a little scary.
Your launcher locking up doesnt sound normal, so I'd keep an eye on that.
As for calendar, I've not noticed it being an issue. The usual battery hogs are when apps are set to high frequency updates. So recently I installed twitter on a 15min update and it took my battery from 2-3days standby down to 6hours!
You could reset your phone to factory and start again and if its still locking up you might want to get it exchanged. We all suffer lag of a few seconds here and there which we hope will be fixed, but not to the level you've just reported.
Root your phone and install "AutoKiller". Great app, it automatically cleans out your ram and uneeded background applications. Phone runs smoothly with no lag. I use "LauncherPro" instead of "TouchWiz".
My GPS also fixes almost instantly, less than 30 secs in most cases. This is in both Google Maps and Co-Pilot.
I really think that it would be unwise to root the phone at this stage, because it would appear to have problems that are not seen on most SGS's and therefore the chances are that the phone needs to be returned.
This would not be possible if "rooted".
Thanks for the responses. I think I'll try one of the lag-fix ROMs that are being mentioned and see how it goes. Is there a way to back up my apps and settings before doing this?
I would agree with Geryatrix and hold off rooting or upgrading your phone just yet, in case you need to return it.
Hey guys - I am having a problem with my phone, and I am hoping someone can help? (Running stock/no-root, w/2.3.4)
A few weeks prior to the 2.3.4 release (while on 2.3.3), I noticed that an app called Bump was constantly running in the background (even though I had never launched the app before), and I'd have to constantly go in and manually kill it.
*Also I should note, Google Maps was another constant running app, that I would have to manually kill along with the Bump app.
This got tiresome, and since I wasn't using Bump anyway, I went ahead and uninstalled it. I figured that a recent update to the app/Bump, was the cause. After removing the Bump app, the problem went away (as well as the Google Maps stopped running in the background too - odd I know).
Anyway, the problem is back, but much worse this time - as this past couple of days, my phone is now running a bunch of apps in the background out of the blue!
1) Tango
2) To Market Lite
3) Google Market (even though I have Accounts & Sync/Background Data turned off)
4) Google Music
5) YouTube
6) Photaf
*Note: I have not launched any of the apps listed above in awhile, except for Google Market, which I turn on Background Data for this, and then turn off when I am done.
I have since removed Tango, but it hasn't solved the problem. It seems to happen the most when I turn my phone on (after I reboot, or if I charge over night with the phone turned off), but also will happen when phone is on during the day - with no reboot.
Anyone have an idea what's causing this, or how to fix it? TIA!
The best way to fix this is to stop worrying about it.
Apps do sometimes run in the background or have services waiting for some events to happen - it actuially HELPS battery life and performance and barely consumes any CPU cycles until something happens that triggers the app.
Killing them will drain your battery and make you crazy, more than letting the apps work as designed will.

Thank you for the feedback. I just found it odd that this just started happening, especially since some of the apps running were apps I haven't launched in ages (or ever used).
Also (and I forgot to mention in my post above), that a couple of the apps were running so hardcore - that it set off the alarm in Watchdog, as an app draining my battery and memory - telling me to kill it. So idk what to think, other than I find this behavior a bit odd.
Many of them are set to run based on conditions, like bootup, wifi on, widget added, etc. If you hate it, download autostarts from the market.

Hi,
I'm an owner of a samsung galaxy s5. never had trouble with battery so far. I could use it like on and a half day with some gaming music and internet. Now since 2 days My phone drowns the battery crazy during night. You can also see below in the images. when splitting the chart in half left side is during day, right side is during night. You can clearly see the power consumption is A LOT more during night. I don't know exactly why.
Just before 2 days ago I did these things:
I installed Angry birds. You see during day usage two steep battery usage drops. those are from playing angry birds.
I configured flipboard with my account and started using it for the 1st time.
I downloaded a new TTS voice pack for for google TTS engine for the google now I use now instead of the S Voice I hate.
for the rest there are a few apps that updated such as:
Antutu benchmark and speedtest, perhaps accuweather, can't remember for sure though these might be wrong.

i.imgur.com/R41deei.png
This is a huge problem since I woke up yesterday to an empty battery.
I hope you guys know what could be causing this.
Thanks in advance.
Sometime just reboot the phone may help to fix the issue.
Good call, thanks
Edit: Though yesterday the battery was completely drained and the phone closed. So technically it was restarted back then. Yet the problem occurred this night again.
i am having the same proble
android OS And Gpds are using all my battery even after a fresh reinstall i dont know what to do
Okay, this night I didn't have the problem anymore (after ai had the same problem 2 consecutive nights).
All I did was disabling and uninstalling all the apps I don't use (if it was possible of course, some apps such as the ELM Agent cannot be uninstalled).
So the programs I disabled are:
Flibboard
S Health
S Planner
S Voice
Smart Remote
For the most samsung services he phone offers I always hav ebeen using the google variant if possible
Programs I uninstalled:
Free App a Day (program giving that names a program every day that became free)
Diablo 3 dashboard (shows the statistics of my diablo 3 characters. This Always seemed to be running in the background, but I actually have no use to it so deleted it)
For the rest cannot remember for sure. But yeah problems seems to be solved for now, and I hope it won't happen again.
And it happened again for some reason.
As you can see in the screenshots.
About the game "unpossible" I forgot it on right before I was going to sleep and noticed it was running right before sleeping so I did close it. At the beginning of the graph, you can see a small dip, that is because of that game.

i.imgur.com/mYw5xqM.png
Also in the morning I noticed the ram was being used up 1.55GB of the 2GB. I restarted my phone and it was somewhere in the 900MB this time.
This is getting frustrating. I need to find the cause of this.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Genkli,
maybe Kaspersky is doing a full scan from time to time, when the phone is not used?
It will probably try that until the full scan is done.
Good luck,
Matt

Thanks for the reply. Though I would doubt that, since kaspersky only has one scan function which takes only a minute or two I mean A phone doesn't have much data on it compared to a computer.
Also if kaspersky was the cause why doesn't it show up on the battery statistics as the main power consumer?
But it could still be true as you said, will look into it. Thanks.
EDIT: Checked the app, it does have a scheduled scan option which is disabled by default.

Did you try uninstalling angry birds for a day or 2 to see if the use returns to normal?
Otherwise, I'd do that with each of the apps that you've added recently until you find the evil one...
Hi guys,
Has anyone noticed heavy lag and freezing when using the phone. I don't have a lot of apps installed and i have disabled most apps that i don't use and the phone is still giving me issues.
Any advice is appreciated. [emoji4]
I switched from RAZR MAXX HD and this phone is a space rocket in comparison to my old Droid. Have you tried factory restore? Then if it lags - I would try to return it to Moto.
Check CPU utilization. Maybe some app hangs on. I've noticed that noozy (music player) lags like hell when album is over and player remains in notification bar.

I have the same problem, I tried to removing as much as possible automatic start calling but often when I uncheck the receiver this puts me "failed" in Rom Toolbox, I have tried Xposed Auto Boot module, but I do not feel that it works.
But for me, I have a lot of app instaled and my UI is very modified (Nova Launcher, Gravity Box, various Widget), so I know why he lag, but I still find it overheating lot and that's what most do slow.
Hi, I am having same issue. My configs was same as you, @Trinytix, but I had uninstalled all of them because lag issues. And now I continue to have same lag issues. When I use the standard cam for five minutes it become freezy and lag and sometimes I lose some photos. All the time it is burning. Just stops to burn when I leave it without work about 30 minutes. I think the problem is the snapdragon 810 but in other foruns some say that the problems with this processor was fixed.
I've been having similar issues, I got really into theming (using nova prime) the last couple of months and at the end of January the phone started to really lag hard. A couple weeks ago I stopped being able to open any apps other than the phone and google's messenger. I tried to factory reset from settings and could not (device gets stuck un the power down sequence), so I went the recovery mode route. reinstalled a fraction of my apps, put back a much stripped down version of my theme, and things were mostly ok, if a little laggy. However, the phone insisted that there was no SD card (internal or external) despite there being a 64GB card, which would sometimes show up when viewed in settings, some apps (podcast addict) were able to access the internal memory, but others couldn't (cameras, sms, photos, music). Yesterday the keyboard ceased to launch for more than a split second at a time, and would not take any input (you would not believe how infuriating this is unless you've experienced it first hand). In an attempt to regain some functionality I started uninstalling everything that I don't consider vitally important (bus app, podcasts, messenger) couldn't get through more than 1 or 2 at a time because multiple windows would stack telling me processes like "motorola" "android" and "media" had stopped. I did succeed in stripping away all the automation apps and theming apps (tasker, nova, icon packs, etc). I can't even place a phone call on the first try.
Oh and to add insult to injury I have to darned green lines about 0.5cm wide now.
Looks like hw problem or system got corrupted. Try to re-flash whole system but if is hw...
