2 weeks with wildfire - Wildfire General

Well guys,
i've had my wildfire for about two weeks now,and i have to say that i do miss my old HTC Polaris.
the wildfire is a stunning looking smartphone there is no doubt about that, but i have to say that WM phones are much more versatile in apps.
after owning an HTC Wallaby, Touch elf and a Polaris,i do miss mostly MSword, exel...,Tomtom.
the only dowside of WM is that it crashes some times.
Wished Android was as compatible in apps as WM, maybe i'll get an HD mini.

I really prefer Android.
WM was so slow, terrible layout and many hacks were needed for some simple things.
I do think that TomTom is gonna release Android software in a while.
Android is large and is growing day by day.

Maybe you're right,
maybe Android is gonna get better than WM...
i think i'll wait for a while.
many thanx for your response thought!

Wait a while man, I have Wildfire for only 3 days now, I had Android in my Diamond before for a while, and I am not coming back to WM, Android seems to be much more user friendly IMHO...

I've been using WM for over 7 years, since the good old O2, then HTC Kaiser to HTC Jade. I was skeptical about android. I've been able to do a lot of things with WM, cutomising and stripping the OS. 3 weeks ago my heart open to Android... and Wildfire is my closest companion now, in joy and sorrow.. bye, bye WM.

The Desire of HD2

Hiya - I am finally ok to upgrade with T-Mob! I been wanting the HD2 for a while, but now they are releasing the Desire (early April according to the latest info from T-Mob). Please tell me guys, should I wait for the Desire?
- Part of me loves WM part of me hates. Like when you want to make a call - it wont, or finish a call - theres always a few second delay or it doesnt want to stop!
I tried the HD2 in the T-Mob store, it looks great, love the keyboard etc... but it froze couple times. Is this really normal?
- I like the idea of Android.. but wonder if it still has teething probs...
All of you who had the HD2 plesae give your honest opinon... is it worth to take the plunge for the next 18 months or so?
cheers!!!
Go for the Desire... I have the HD2 and i don't regret buying it really... A very nice phone with great hardware etc... The problem is the software.. HTC, and its Sense, has done a very good job making the OS look pretty... And it is, no doubt about that.. The problem is this: Stability.... Every once in a while the phone crashes, becomes slow etc. and requires me to reset it, even pull the battery when its total chaos ... It's not THAT bad, but it pisses me off frankly
The good thing about WM is the ability to customize it.. The funny thing is that it's pretty much a requirement to do so, to make the phone's software act decent...
The desire has a smaller screen, but also a more comfortable form factor.. But, as i said, it all comes down to software and longsighted view... Android is a platform of the future, and even right now it has taken big steps towards mobile OS domination.. It's fast, stabile and good looking.. What more can you ask for?
but than again.. android also crashes... (I know cause my cousin told me..)
I've got the HD2.. and I'm very pleased with it.. and yes it anoys me when it crashes.. but this only happens with custom roms and not with the stock rom.
My opinon is that your choice shouldn't just be software related but it has to be the whole thing..
And the phone is good enough to survive the comming 2 years...
(especialy if we get an update to wm7 but its not confirmed yet. we'll hear that next month.)
To me me the HD2 is the best phone ever and curently there is no phone that is able to replace it!!!
yesterday I was holding my uncles touch pro 2 and was so slow to me..
I own a HD2 and love it, very very few crashes and the latest ROM from HTC fixes most problems people had at the beginning. I've got a friend who owns a Hero (Android + Sense) and complains all the time because of crashes and bad network signal and so on.
The Nexus One received a lot of bad press because of poor 3G signals but hopefully HTC have patched that so it shouldn't be an issue on the Desire.
Also, if WM7 is as closed as some make it out to be then I personally will be getting an Android next purchase. I had a G1 with some of the first iterations of Andriod and franky they were crap, but it has had some massive improvments since then and is looking very slick and has a great future ahead. I have not used any of the 2.0 versions but they have slowly been tempting me away from my HD2 and WM, the only thing holding me back is a spare pile of cash.
It all comes down to personal opinion and how much you want to do with it and if you want to tweak it. If you are more of a fiddly type and love messing with settings and stuff then get the HD2, if you just want to use it out of the box without doing anything to it then go with the Desire.
For me HD2 is my first WM phone and honestly I have no idea why are people slagging it so much. I have absolutelly no problems making phone calls, texting or doing anything else with my phone. It's been 2 months since I got and it crashed once and that was because of me installing some dodgy app. I think people moaning all the time just dont know how to use it properly. Its the same with Windows XP, Vista etc. Some of my pals restore their systems every few weeks while I've had my last XP instalation running for year and a half and it was still all right just a bit slow to boot up.
In conclusion - if you know what you doing there is nothing wrong with WM. If you want more idiotproof os go for android or iphone.
If the T-Mobile ROM is stable, then I would say get the HD2 with the bigger screen. I have the T9193 version and when it works, it is great. I have to do a lot more tweaking on it to get it to work the way I want it. The data connection constantly drops or is off even when I have full bars with the H logo. Youtube app doesn't work on mine, I have read there is a fix where I have to edit the registry to remove the cingular settings.
I want to try Android myself, I will ge the X10 when AT&T releases it.
I;ve own the HD2 for a month now with dutty's HG v0.9 ROM / 2.08 radio. and i dont know what crashes you guys are talking about. mines is completely stable.
buy the desire android gets ubdates more than windows mobile
HD2 is the best phone I have ever used. I have had it 3 weeks, not a single crash. I am still on the 1.48 ROM, had the sms sending issue, applied the htc patch, all working. everything works on my phone. Apart from sms everything worked out the box. I have applied all the tweak and improvements from Xda, made it that much better. Go with the HD2, you won't be sorry.

Yes, because it is a much younger platform that needs those updates. WM 6.5 is already quite stable and doesn't need all those updates.
Unless you are talking about GMaps, GGoggles etc. Because all those great free services that Google are offering are very temping.
I too own Hd2 and I dont really know wheter I totaly love it, or I hate it.
It is totaly fast compared to older devices. Winmo is great cuz it can be customizable. Winmo is stable base for app. I dont use HTC slowdown programs and It's quite satysfing.
On the other hand, winmo is quite slow and ugly. You have to customize, if you want decent device. Android is really looking great. Winmo 7 (windows phone 7 series) is total crap, full of LOOOOONG pointless animations, and no functionality (and ugly too). So there is no future. And android's future is quite bright, look at all these new and nice games for it.
Thats how it is. I love my HD2, but I'm really curious about android. So both ways are great choose if you ask me =)
Thanks
Thanks for your opinions/experience guys! Its going to be a tricky decision.. I normally go for the 18 month contract so hope I do the right thing. Never used android before, but it looks great, but then Im waiting now T-Mob to make me an offer I cant refuse...
In any case, you will have to wait until the end of March. By then, it will likely be clear whether the HD2 gets an upgrade to WP7 or not.
If the HD2 doesn't get an upgrade to WP7, then I'd say get the Desire. Windows Mobile 6.5 is dead (not yet, but soon). The Desire will at least get updates to future Android versions.
Right now, there are things that Windows Mobile does better, and there are things that Android does better. The quality of the applications on Android is certainly better than what you can find for Windows Mobile (there are about 30000 applications for both, but almost noone develops anymore for Windows Mobile 6.5).
Android has perfect integration with Google's services. Windows Mobile has not-so-perfect integration with Microsoft's services (e.g. you can't sync the calendar with Windows Live). Only Windows Mobile has good Exchange support, if you're an Exchange user.
Stability? That depends. I would not claim that one of them is more stable than the other. But Android works more smoothly (with transitions etc.).
My Nexus One has never crashed, and I have had it since before the launch.

HD2 and Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10

can anyone tell me which is better to get ??? i have no idea about the performance of the Android 1.5 ... plzz help me
If you want to consume over the phone... Android / iPhone is a go ... if you want consuming plus billion possibilities of making your phone more fun, more easy, more of everything - get HD2 ...
I'm HD2... are you?
Thanks Dude .. now am goin 2 be HD2 myself
The expert of M3digtal word have tested both of them and there give to Xperia 10 in the scale of 10 a 5,hd2 have a 8!
I've never used an ExperiaX10 but I've had my HD2 for about 4 days. I must say i picked up my 8525 today and thought "Damn this **** looks ugly!".
My wife was always the one complaining about me being on my phone all the time. Now that I got her an HD2 also, she is bragging about it to everyone she meets, watching movies while working out at the gym, taking pics/videos of the kids all the time and basically being a total freaking junkie like I've been for the last 4 years.
I can only say the HD2 is a great experience.
Don't know but isn't the latest version of Android actually 2.1 Update 1 so it's out of date already?
I am in the same boat now..
2 questions that are still un answered for me --
1. Will android 2.1 update make x10 a better phone ?
2. Will HD2 be getting a fully functional android when its elder twin brother HTC EVO comes out in another 2 months ?
Meanwhile i will stick on to my everhated iphone ( jailbroken iphone ofcourse) that actually meets all my needs

1. Yes, it will.... if it is made.
2. No, the EVO is not the same phone, any more than a Corvette is a Porsche because they both have four tires and a steering wheel. The HD2 will likely never run Android fully, and definitely not as an HTC sanctioned ROM.
HD2 is better for you , X10 suck
X10 comes with Android 1.6 with the support of upgrading to 2.1 in the future. However, the multi-touch is announced to be not supported no matter which android version the phone receives.
Android will have more apps, but HD2 basically has more possibility of making it better and more fun if you just spend some time doing research and try out new things.
If you are not a so much tech person, maybe android will be a better platform to choose over WinMo 6.5.
go and get htc desire ,or x10 but never get hd2 ,android is the future ,wm6.5 is totally dead

I took the plunge...

I've been and gone and done it and got myself an Android handset after many years of operating system loyalty to WM in all it's various versions.
As good as my HD2 is (and I still think it's a great handset) the fact that Windows 6.x.x support is on the wain and Microsoft is moving on to Windows Phone 7 imminently was a major factor in me deciding to jump ship. Call me Judas, call me a traitor, but the fact is, it was time to move on and I will miss my HD2 and all the quirkiness that came with WinMo.
Have to admit though, 2 days in with my new Desire and I'm reasonably pleased...lots of new functionality to play with and widgets to discover...one thing I will say for definite is that the apps store is a real boon. Microsoft really did miss a trick with their apps store.
Off to the Android pages now, but just wanted to say thanks to all the folk on the XDA WinMo pages for the help and support...especially all the ROM Chefs and spare time developers who give so much to make owning a WinMo handset an infinitely more enjoyable experience...Cheers guys.
So long...and thanks for all the fish!

There is no and probably never will be a WM rom for the Wildfire. The wildfire isn't successfully rooted (A review version was but it doesn't work on retail) so flashing is currently impossible so I don't think you can unbrand it for now.
I do know Paul from MoDaCo is trying to root it but we will see how that goes.
Why would you want that? i am just curious.
I like to have it, because all my other phones are with windows mobile.
There are many more programs for wm smartphones...
But the next problem is, that in Germany all wildfires are sold out... it's very anoying.
I've searched for a good thread with android apps - but i didn't find one...
Does it have as much applications as for windows mobile?

I do not know how much the applications for Windows mobile has grown in the last year but I used to have WM 6.1 on my HTC Kaiser.
I find more (free and paying) applications in the android market then I found for WM.
Take a look at appbrain . com
@ s3ri0z:
i dont think so, that all the wildfires are sold out in germany. why i get one today in my vodafoneshop???
it is unpossible to flash a winmob rom to your wildfire. did you tried to run android on a windows mobile phone? its difficult to develop it and so to run it on an winmob device.
and than, the android only starts in windows. it doesnt replace it.
on android you wount get something like that.
Hey s3ri0z,
I'm German myself, so please write me a PM, if there are some problems with the understanding. I'll answer you in German then.
To your questions:
- There exist 100.000+ apps in the Android Market. This is way more then you can get for WM. I have to admit, that if you count all WM-apps together you might find more apps for WM. But most of the WM-apps are old. Lots of those were designed for WM 5, WM 6.1, etc. The only useful WM-apps are those for WM 6.5 and may be WM 6.1, but since Microsoft will launch Windows Phone 7 in a couple month, WM is kind of dying.
My phone is an HTC HD2 and this way I'm using WM-apps for a long time. With the possibilities of an Linux kernel, which was released by the dev's here in this forum, I'm now testing Froyo on my HD2. To be honest, I think Android is the future. It is in many ways better. It's faster, supports flash in the browser and has a huge development community.
- You can get a Wildfire at at least three online stores from now to tomorrow. Try idealo.de or other "Preissuchmaschinen", you'll find a vendor.
- The only thing, which really is a plus for Windows Mobile is the Sync. I don't wan't to share my private data with google. But even there is a solution. Look for companionlink.com and check the USB-version. That should solve all those problems.
Hello guys,
thanks for so many answers.
I looked an a lot of websites with android apps.
There are really many freeware apps - so it's ok to have an android smartphone...
I searched at idealo.com for the wildfire and bought 3 pieces at es-mobilfunk de.
At the shop the delivery date was 3 to 7 days.
After 3 days I asked for the delivery date --> they said it's sold out and I have to wait for an indefinite period... it's very annoying!
Hi there!
- WM has more apps - true. But it got near to 500.000 (for example) apps in nearly 10 years. Android got near to 100.000 apps in nearly 2 year. That means android grows and gets apps faster So why anyone would want wm on his Wildfire? I only missed TCPMP and Worms from wm.
All of the Wildfires isn't sold in Germany or I bought the last one

lol, fail comparison. End up the same amount/year in your case.
But, your point's right
Windows Mobile have around 50k working apps atm. and have been around for like 6 years or so. Android have been around for over 1 year know, lately the apps have grown like ****. It'll probably beet Appstore pretty soon.
But hey! Apps is not all, Android is the (according to me) best system around.
From what I seen of the wildfire in the 3 hours I have had mine it really would not do well with the new windows mobile heavy handed core, the phone is nice as it is and really does not need WM killing the poor thing

i completely agree. had wm devices since 2003 (tomtom was the killer app) but now wm is dying, wp7 will not change this, since as far as i heard it is not backward compatibility at all. this was my reason to go for the wildfire, and i have to say i really like this phone.

Yeah... Android has many apps. Maybe not as much as WM but still growing. In Poland all HTCs were sold out as well :/ but 2 days ago I managed to snatch one

Ever looked in Window Marketplace??? There is not much to download...
I also was using Windows Mobile 6.5 and now owner of the HTC Wildfire, honestly, i never want to go back to Windows Mobile! Android is so easy to use and much faster than (for example) WM on a Touch2...
What ever you need can be sownloaded on the Marketplace, and the best thing is...for free!
Dave
Never try torturing yourself. I've just escape from this hell
I used a Touch2 in a electronic market and i felt like riding a turtle after I used my lovely Wildfire. So WM sucks. I only missed the TCPMP and Worms but soon we'll get them
can i have a dual boot with windows and android in the HTC Wildfire ??? and heard that some applets arent supported due to less resolution of the screen… is that true ?? is that a major setback as far as Android market is concerned ??? and anyone tried FROYO on wildfire ???

1. No
2.Sorta, Some apps don't show in the market but you can still download them.
3. Froyo is going to be released sooner or later(Within 2 weeks the rumor goes).
I don't understand why anyone would want to use Windows Mobile over the Android OS. As point of princible to prove you can get Windows Mobile on your phone is one thing... To use it as your phone's main OS is another IMO.

[Q] Flash Windows 7 on desire?

Hello guys
I am for a big time without my HTC, I owned a HTC Raphael wich operated with wm 6.5 flashed by me and unblocked with jailbreak.
However my fuze got broken, and I stood a long time without a good phone, and now I am going to travel and decided to buy one.
So, I liked so much my fuze, because it worked with WM, and I've got more facilities downloading programs.
I have ever liked WM more than MAC(from iphone) by the apps, and all. The other feature I liked ou fuze was the QWERTY, wich there is on the DESIRE Z.
Can I flash the newest windows(7) on this Desire? Or only work on android? Wich is the apps available for this android? Is it feels like windows? or the codification of programs are all different?
Please help me, becaus if there is not many apps, I will choose by the HTC HD7 or IPHONE(even without QUERTY)
Thanks
You can not flash WM onto an Android device...you can however Flash Android onto WM. DO NOT get an iPhone!
If you like the flexbility of porting different OS on your device, you may want to look into HD2. WM7 project is underway for HD2 and Android is fully portable with a few snags here and there. If you simply want the option of a lot of apps, I would go with DZ as the Android marketplace is much better then WM.

If you like wimo, you'll absolutely love ANDROID. Wimo blows goat chunks. You can do more with Android, look at smartphone market share... wimo is barely a blip... counted in the "other". Android is #1, even making RIM look foolish now. There's a REASON for it.... absolute and unquestionable superiority.
I came from WinMo on a Touch Pro 2 to Android on the DZ. And you couldn't pay me to go back, I love the combination of DZ/Android ! It's vastly superior. WP7 looks cool but it's very very new and seems to be lacking a lot of stuff (bear in mind that the devs are still trying to figure out how to do custom ROMs on WP7).
