But android's apps are quite fun, I think, at least I miss Tunewiki, Fotmob and some widgets.
Anyway, definitely a right decision that u made
in defence of android the x10 is only using1.6 and other than that SE has done a ****ty job with their UI.

my friend has a desire , and i used it for 30 munites before i got x10 ,x10 is better than desire , the screen senstivity is nearly equal to iphone ,with better camera and sound quality ,and with respect to android 2.1 it inly differs from 1.6 ,in some skinning ,some minor user interface update and the support for 16 million colors , in spite of all free application released for android market ,they really miss the quality and functionality not like wp6.5 apps even you cannot change themes in the android without 3rd party application (and the device must be rooted ). android is really a ****ty un mature os and i really regret spending 650 dollars on an android device
Finally a worthwhile HD2 praise thread welcome back!
I have to be honest though, i am very interested in trying out android, and as mentioned earlier i would assume the desire to be much better than the x10. Is android really not that good? My touch HD and HD2 are the 1st phones to keep my interest for so long, usually i get bored quite quickly, and so i love these phone, and winmo is pretty decent!

yes it is not that good
i have a desire and i love android, still love the HD2 though
i think alot of the trouble with the X10 is that it runs on a old version of android 1.6 i think the desire has 2.1
I dont see my self getting along with droid.
I might try it if they ever make a workable droid for HD2. But knowing me ill just flash back.

I'm actually using android phone (chinese N21), a good quality phone, with original android with market and other stuff.
I like android it's not perfect but neither bad. It's good phone OS, Id mention here google contacts auto synchronization which is very good thing. There are also some good apps out there because many developers are working on market, but keep in mind that there are also about 70 % of crap apps or apps that copy an actual useful app already on market. One more bad thing about android is apps storage (your forced to use phone memory), there is an method of using apps2sd to save apps on sdcard but it's not noob friendly.
Im waiting my HD2 to arrive these days, so I will leave android for now.
Btw I like winmo very much it's very good OS, I just hope more developers will work on creating useful applications for winmo.

hey all,
ive had my Hd2 for about 6 months and I'm thinking of getting rid of it for a N1 or a Desire. i mean is this a smart move?
my main reason is the lack if apps for the hd2 is pathetic and most are in the old skool windows mobile interface, which looks crap to the likes of the sense ui.
im also finding the slowdowns in win mo are driving me bonkers. for a high spec phone im not impressed.
course being that i have to lay down the best part of 400-600 pounds to get the forementioned phones id like the communities help. im tempted for a google N1 as the updates are more regular, but the sense UI on the hd2 i find really nice. so what would you guys say is the betterof the two? and would you get one over the hd2
thanks,
Luke
oh no... another one of those...
how the hell should we know?? vast majority of us in these parts of the forum have hd2, so isn't it better to ask those questions on android boards?
geez... how many threads like this do we need?
Im with mr. bronx on this one...
surely the HD2 community are the people to ask, as you've stayed with HD2, you'll be the most wise as to why not to get the android, and/or why you stayed with the HD2 over the new androids?

To be brutally honest, it is personal preference.
Every phone has it's issues.
Every operating system has it's issues.
Every owner has their issues with the above.
i have gone from the HD2 to the Desire and to honest for me anyway i find the desire and android a joy to use, dont get me wrong i still think the HD2 is a awesome phone but windows is a real pain sometimes.
im just hoping HTC gets us the android 2.2 update soon
android gets updates fast ,you will buy desire , and after one month android 2.2 is released ,and when upgrading officially to it ,android 3.0 will be released , android is not stable and very un mature os

you didnot understand me ,iam not talking about it ,iam talking about the version stability and the completness of features winmo
is updated nearly every two years and mainly skinning updates ,as it has alll features that a mobile could have but android gets update every 2-3 monthes , which adds new features to catch up other mature os
ahh got you now
but everyone seems really happy with 2.2 features and it has everything i had on the HD2.
like it was said above its just a personal preference thing.
Keep your HTC HD 2 android is on the way, either by dual boot, or being that of htc evo coming out, and actual rom.
The HTC HD 2 is the most powerfull device out there, and you can do whatever you want with it, no restrictions nothing, you can have a vast majority of operating systems.
Most can be ported thanks to the lovely people here at XDA.

An android port to the HD2 is not going to be like an android phone that came with android. It will be a long time before the port is as functional as an android phone. You're probably not going to want to use the android port full time as it will be a while before it uses all the hardware properly like bluetooth, wifi, camera, sound, etc. There could also be heating issues, battery issues, stabilty issues, etc. People seem to think that the evo rom will easily be ported over and it will be fully functional. It doesn't work like that. The touch pro's android port has been developed for over a year and it still isn't nearly as functional as a full android phone.
Don't get me wrong... I can't wait to be able to boot into android on my HD2, but I expect it to be over a year from now until it will be good enough to want to use full time instead of WinMo 6.5. HD2 is a WinMo phone, and thats the only os that it will run well for probably at least the next 6months to year. It may never run another os good enough to use full-time.
Do what your heat tells you. Just playing. Honestly, its all about what you need your phone to deliver for you.
My phone completes what I want and makes me happy. I sometimes feel the lack of apps but it is no big deal.
All I really use on a daily basis are Stocks, weather, music player, youtube app and web browser. You will obviously find more apps for android.
Personally, I dont need all those apps you find for android like optical illusions, weird sounds and bla bla bla. Sure I need an app like NBA Game Time similar to that of android but nothing that I desperately need.
I just hop on espn with skyfire or Opera 10 Mobile and Im good.
Android lacks quality games just like Windows Mobile but FPSEce helps a little my HD2.
My sisters own a Motorola Cliq and a Droid and nothing to major for me to want Android. Maybe If the developers from this site get a working android port I will be HAPPY.
Other than that, this phone fulfills my needs.
AGAIN, DO WHAT YOUR HEART SAYS.....LOL.

I've not rebooted my HD2 for at least 3 weeks, and I think that was due to a tweak in BsBtweaks needing a restart to take effect.
I can put you in touch with several people who have had iphones that lock up and become unresponsive more than once a week if you want?
Complexity will always have instability.
HD2 is much more sexy than ANY other phone on the market around imo..
Besides, they are working on Android for the HD2.. And making some good progress lately..
Nothing better than a phone that could eventually even dualboot .
If you want games and apps to play about with/be cool with around your mates, get an iPhone or another type that most 'mainstream' users have.
Hello guys,
I used to be a proud owner of an HTC HD, which I recently sold, and now I am wondering what to buy next. The next phone I would like to own is a phone running Android and I know that HTC HD2 is capable of that. What my question is, if there is a significant difference in the performance between same hardware Android phones and the Android on HTC HD2. In other words, is it worth buying the HTC HD2 for use as an Android phone, or should I pay a little more money and buy a Desire for example. I would also like to know if 3D games are playable on Android on the HTC HD2 (as they werent on the HD, lagged like hell). Thanks in advance
Don't buy an HD2, buy an android phone instead.

well you will probably end up rooting any phone you get anyway apparently. Games have been flawless on my HD2, including a pretty heavy game like heavy gunner 3d. not 1 single bit of lag. But unless you can find an hd2 dirt cheap I'd get the new nexus s
I have also one more question. What is the progress of the Android on the HTC HD2. I know that it is not a ROM yet, is it like the one on the HTC HD (running Haret and its on the SD card) or is it something better? I read of some "Android Builds" but I don't really know the difference. Also will there ever be a Android ROM for the HD2 ?
my advice is if you have money to invest, buy either Desire HD or Nexus S. As much as smooth android runs on HD2, it is still can't be compared to a native android phone, the biggest problem being the battery drain. in standby it is alright, but when you use it it drains a lot.
I use Android on the HD2 because it's the one Tmo USA 3G capable phones hardware that I like that runs Android. I have/had Samsung Vibrant and prefer the HD2 hardware. I'm not a fan of the bulky G2. I like the 4.3" screen, and will not go back to using anything less than 4". I have not tried a MyTouch 4G because it doesn't offer anything compelling to draw me away from the HD2. But I have android running perfectly on my HD2, and it did take a bit of tinkering to get it running the way I want (Some SD cards work better than others, getting the build running, etc). Day to day it's every bit as good (and faster) than my Vibrant. There are a few minor quirks. Like having to unmount the card to install come applications from the marketplace. But, other than boot time there really isn't much advantage going to a phone that comes with Android.

It's nowhere near completion and I dont think it'll ever will. Even the blackstone like u said (which has been out for what 2yrs now?) still can't run android natively so you can kiss goodbye the possibility of android running on NAND anywhere in the distant future. It's a nice novelty idea to play around with if you already have an HD2 or familiar with the constant struggle that current developers are facing, but for everyday use, I'd say you're better off getting a pure android phone...much more efficient than what the HD2 can deliver on crutches.
Yeah, if you want to run android, you'll be better off getting a native android phone. Why buy a phone to run a port of android when you can get a phone that was made to run it.
Now if you also want to run winmo and don't mind putting in a lot of time testing out different android builds and working out bugs and quirks of a ported android, then the hd2 is a good phone... but don't expect it to run as well as a native android phone.

Well actually, the only thing I'd like to use Android for is the Games. I'm okay with using WinMo the other time (for browsing the net, watching movies. etc.). So I guess thats possible. Also why not buy an Android phone you ask? Well, cause the 4.3 inch Android phones are a hell of a lot more expensive. And one more thing, the HTC HD Blackstone didn't get a full Android ROM because all of the developers migrated to the HTC HD2 Leo.

So basically the only thing going for you are the 4.3in screen and the fact that it's cheaper than android phones in that price range? I don't know about a 4.3in but most samsung galaxy S line are about $150 with a 2yr contract and you can probably find an X10 for pennies. Unless you REALLLYYY want to dual boot winmo and android, I don't see why anyone would waste their time, money and energy and would get the HD2 just for running android to play games...don't you think that's a little ass-backward? Why would anyone want a winmo phone, running haret on SD card, booting android...just to play android games? hahaha
Oh well, it's your money, do whatever you want with it
If you want android for gaming, I would get something from the Samsung galaxy line... it has a much better gpu, which isn't currently being taken advantage of by apps and games, but since Google's new development phone, the nexus s, is basicly a galaxy phone and has same chipset, future development and games will surely take advantage of it. Basicly, android developers and Google are going to use the nexus s as the standard to develop for like they currently use the nexus one... so many more games will be designed based around the chipset the nexus s and all the galaxy s line of phones use.

I can find one reason. HD2 i very good phone, but if i would like to get just phone i would use Nokia E51 or something similar... I like to play with my device, its kind of toy and HD2 has excellent dev community. Going back to original question. If you want just working device with Android buy something with Android installed natively, but if you don't mind or, like me, like playing with your phone HD2 is very good choice.
Well, I never use WinMo any more.
Android has everything I need.
And it is fast and I seldom experience bugs.
The only real downside is that you really have to be a power user. I spent a lot of hours updating and tweaking. But, then again, I love that
I agree that the HD2 is a nice device. The build quality is extraordinary.
I have had a look at both Desire HD and HD7 -- none of them have as good build quality. Samsung and SE always felt plastic-ish.
If you get a HD2 cheap today - sure, try it out.
But if I were to buy a new phone today - I would probably buy a native Android.
Alright so I thought id give my two cents. I've owned a nexus one and a galaxy s as far as Android phones go. I went back to the hd2 for a couple of reasons. First off, its a lot cheaper than any other phone with comparable hardware. Look on Craigslist Nd you can find a new hd2 for like $200. I like the screen better than the samoled
Sent from my HD2 T8585 using XDA App
Didn't finish, lol. Anyways, the amoled screens aren't as clear as the lcd on the hd2. The colors and contrast of the amoled screens were amazing but I didn't like how you could see pixels. Second, the hd2 has so many roms, even more than the nexus one. And finally, from my experience, the hd2 has been a lot faster than either of those phones. I'm running a desire hd Rom and the quadrant score is higher than either of the phones I mentioned, even after I modded them. Last thing ill say is battery life is definitely not a big problem. Id get about 1 hour more with the nexus one or galaxy than my hd2 with Android. I can easily go 10+ hours on pretty heavy use. Turn internet off and you can go way way longer. So battery life with Android running off an SD card is fine. Oh last thing, changing builds is so easy, just copy a new build on your phone and that's it. So get an hd2. Won't regret it.

Today is the day, when i said good bye to my HD2.
It has been qute an experience owning the device and trying all these different WinMo, Android SD and Nand, Windows Phone 7, but i guess i got tired of all those, what is working and not working rom, and now i deceided to get a Xperia X10...
I want to thank all of the developers, testers, and all of the users of this subforum. Great job guys.
Shame... I had an X10 for about a week before I got rid for the HD2 (my second HD2) ... The X10 has a few 'quirks' of it's own but nothing reflashing can't fix.
ithink hd2 its quite good device, since all my friend complaining baout that n this on their soner device...
HTC is more experienced for PDA things than
I've got HD2 with Rafdroid and X10 (updated to 2.1). After using X10 I still come back to my second phone (I find Sense much, much more useful than Sony's firmware - especially these things that decide about phone functionality - adress book (searching is much better in Sense), phone and so on.)
I owned a X10 before but i was disappointed.
lmao. So let me get this straight, you're going from HD2 to the X10? In case that wasn't clear enough...

imho, (and i provide phone tech support for virgin), you are correct to say its all the out of the box, but the build quality, mtbf*, useability, screen quality, reception and software are much below the Leo.
Don't forget that SE don't as a rule supply updates for their phones, and don't expect to update the rom on the X10 this centuary.

What he said ^
Gosh guys, if he gets a new phone don't kill him over it. Fact is, our hd2 is non comparable to a true android phone. So it's obvious he's got a better android phone than us. Don't trash him about it.
PS. if any of you guys try to tell me that our hd2's are faster than android phones, root the android phone, tweak it, then flash a custom rom / kernel, then you'll see that android phone flying beyond what our hd2's can do.
niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Yeah I would think the HD2 the better of the two ?
X10 has locked bootloader - there are few custom ROMs and SE said they won't update the official Android in Xperia.
You wanted Android from the box - why not Galaxy S?

Because the galaxy s is known for it's hardware problems. However I find the problems insignificant in my case and opinion.
Now personally I find you choice of the X10 a bad one, as the desire, desire hd or even desire z would have been a better choice. But hey, congrats on the new device. :3
Hi guys! i'll be going to singapore soon to buy my htc hd2. Missed all the tweakings. Had an xda, then xda exec then got an htc shift (still with me now). Looking forward to have one soon.
You chahged hd2 for xperia? If I were you I wouldn't tell anyone about this stupidity. You are crazy, man!
When i had a Xperia X10 i waited 4 months for an update. And not to 2.2 or 2.3 but
from 1.6 to 2.1.(The first and last update for the Xperia X10 family.)
When i got the update guess what, still no multitouch, no adobe flash player, same laggy Timescape and Mediascape. And did not mention the BIG quadrant score: somewhere around 460-500, with the update.
So i did own a Xperia X10i for 4 months and i can say from experience that the HD2 android it is far better than the Xperia X10i.
This is only my opinion. I was happy to change the X10 for a HD2.
You did the opposite.Hope you will be happy with it.
Just curious what people have to say about this statement...
yes it is , think about it you have 3 phones in one (for now (wm,wp7,android))
wm 500 euro+-
wp7 500 euro+-
android 500 euro+-
In my opinion its the best device but the most people think the phone is "crap" because it is almost 2 years old... and that's wrong! My HD2 is better than DHD and the other ones
Yep, superram froyo still remains one of the fastest roms out there, even faster than nand to me. In fact, it is even faster than my old nexus one and on par with a Vibrant on Darky's 9.3!
Long Live the HD2
I got my own prayer mat - arab worship "Allah"
I worship my HD2 - feel guilty tho' as i'm only praying, praising and thanking my HD2 50 times a day - it deserves more!!
will try to improve error of my ways ;-)
matt
its the best.
It has everything even 720P video recording on windows phone 7 ^^ I mean what more do you really expect of a 2 year old phone
I don't want to jinx it now but I really would not have a single clue what phone would replace my HD2 (running Gingerbread MDJ 2.6) if it went bad!!
love it!

I consider it one of the best phones on the market. Especially considering it's age. The amount of internal memory on the american HD2's is off the chain.
HD2 > Girlfriend
Overall yes i would say so. Reasons being you can get it relatively cheap, it has great/modern hardware, able to boot 4 OSes, meaning it can probably suit everyone's needs, stable/smooth/fast.
However the best device in terms of performance? That's hard to say. In android? It's obviously beaten by other 1ghz android devices. WP7? People are saying it beats even the HD7, but are they comparing it to a HD7 with tweaks also or just stock? Ubuntu it obviously can't compare to a real computer. Winmo it is the best.
But as said, its still the best device overall, atleast in my perspective.
I was eagerly waiting for the 2011 WMC to see what new phones were headed our way this year. I was thouroughly dissapointed to be fair. If I had to get a new phone right now, I would get the best phone currently on the market today which is.. an HD2!
You're damn right !
The more I become familiar with my Leo the more I'm proud of having bought it instead of any common Ifone..
Yeah its still a top device.People are still asking what phone is that or is that the new one,its still a looker, nice and smart,ok its not as nice as HD7 in looks but it can still perform just aswell,This was htcs answer to the Toshiba TG01 and relesed it back in nov 2009 at £499,most people have forgoten the TG01 now,had a look on handtec.co.uk ,Desire HD £369.59 HD7 £371.99 HD2 £367.19 just goes to show, this phone is still holding its value well, its still more expensive new than a desire, all these came out after HD2,you got huge backing on here.it boots several OSs,you cant really ask any more from a phone, its still an amazing phone, never known a device like it and i look a desire hd or an incredible S and i think,my phone can do that, just as good. The HD2,its deffinently a real iPhone killer
