Ok guys,
As I've already posted in a previous thread (the huge "Telstra 850 version working in USA on 3G" thread), I recently bought this Aussie T8285 HD because it had U.S. 3G capabilities.
As a result, I've been wanting to HSPL and flash my new HD because:
1.) though the phone works fine in making calls with my AT&T service/sim card and updating my google e-mails, the 3G internet is not working right now (internet only works when I use wifi). **special thanks to felixjai and bill48105 in the previous thread for nicely helping me troubleshoot my problem, suggesting that I need to HSPL and flash it for the 3G to start working**
but more importantly...
2.) I want to get rid of the Telstra crap in the phone and be able to install Dutty's and other cool stuff on this site
So I wanted to make sure before doing any major tweaking to fully understand and comprehend the whole process (as you can obviously tell, I am a newb). But to be completely honest, all the jargon is quite over my head and I realize that it'll simply take actual experience to fully comprehend all of this.
So I guess my question is, from what I was able to glean from the wiki-pages (and I've read it several times over), is that all I need to do is, with what I want to do in the above two points:
FIRSTLY, Hard_SPL (not SSPL or USPL, but HSPL) my HD by following exactly step-by-step this page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_Flash3
and THEN SECONDLY, DL and install Dutty ROM from this page?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone_cookedroms
- Do I need to have the Dutty .cab ready and downloaded already on my PC and ready to install (and where do I drop this ROM into? into a folder?) to my HD or can I DL and install it at a later time?
- Does this whole process have nothing to do with the radio? I can leave the radio alone?
- How do I know if my version of the HD is ok to HSPL? On the wiki page, it says that it needs to be BLAC100 but I have BLAC250...is this still ok to HSPL? Do I need to update/download/change anything on my HD before starting this process?
I apologize for the long-winded email and for what probably is totally childs-play for you pros out there, but please bear with me...it is all a bit overwhelming and I just want to make sure as I don't want to permanently screw up my $1000 device. THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH FOR THE HELP!

THANKS for the info !
So how do I know if my HD is OK to HSPL?
My HD is not BLAC100 and the wiki page states that if "ModelID is different, contact us for testing"...
Do I need to tweak any of my settings on my phone before starting the HSPL process or is it just good to go as is?
Something that I have been wondering about... is one method of flashing 'safer' than another? i.e. is it just a user preference or is there a reason one should attempt one method before the other?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong (and I could be since I'm a newb), but I believe HSPL is better because then it makes it more difficult in bricking your phone.
I wasnt thinking so much about HSPL vs USPL but rather flashing from SD card vs PC!

Only difference is that you don't need to be connected to your pc to flash the ROM. Both are just as safe. Its a users preference.
thanks! that clears that one up!
Hi
I'm the very proud owner of a HTC HD2.
When trying to install most tweeks / .cabs the phone says unsuccessful cannot install due to invalid or no certificate.
I have CERegEditor installed on PC. is there a simple reg change or app to overcome this? I have searched in this forum...but not been able to find.
Many thanks..
Rob
Hi and welcome to XDA fellow tmobile uk user
tmobile blocks changes to the registry, there are 2 solutions to this
a cab file is a simple installation file for your phone, people here will make these tweaks into cab files, download them from the device and install them onto your device and restart the phone
the other solution is to flash your phone to another rom, either stock rom or custom rom makes no difference
i am currently using artemis 5.5 and it is 10000x better than the tmobile stock rom
hope this helps!

hi Mr CGREC92....
If you do flash the rom, say, to the latest official HTC updated ROM, does this create problems with your warranty on the Tmobile phone?
thanks cgrec92,
any problems in flashing an new radio or rom on uk tmobile? how about getting tmobile setting ?
Bandare and RobLion, flashing the first time may be a scary thing but I assure you its much easier than you think and the whole process lasts about 5 minutes.
The phone and text messaging settings are on the SIM card, not on the phone, flashing a new ROM will not affect this.
As soon as the phone turns on for the first time after a flash, it prompts you to connect to the Internet using your data connection. Select your operator from the list as Tmobile and the phone will do the rest for you.
To summarize, nothing changes to your phone, text, or internet settings.
You will however need to perform a hard reset after a flash which wipes data from your phone such as your contacts, photos and text messages. A simple backup program, I use Microsoft MyPhone will back all this up in a couple of minutes, and after the flash you can re-download them.
After that all that's left to do is add in all your little shortcuts to the People Tab and Internet Quicklinks etc
Job complete
The flashing will void your warranty, but you can return to how the phone was in a couple of minutes, thus getting your warranty back, i'll explain
To flash your phone, you will download a little program from the first post on this forum called HSPL which modifies the bootloader of the phone allowing you to install any ROM you want
If you send your phone off for repair, the first thing these people check is your SPL, if they see it has been changed to HSPL they will not repair your phone. But by flashing your phone with the original tmobile rom that came with the phone (downloaded from the second post on this forum) through the microSD card will restore the SPL and your original ROM, voila your warranty is restored
To flash your phone, you will download a program called CustomRUU and a .nbh file, put these both into the same folder and connect your phone by USB to your computer, do not flash through the microSDcard unless you are trying to restore your warranty because this will change other settings on the phone, unlike the USB method will simply install the new ROM. Connect your phone through Active Sync, then run CustomRUU and follow the instructions
Your phone will then install the ROM
Hard reset (As soon as you turn the phone on, hold down VolUp and VolDown)
Your phone will now be nice and fresh with your new awesome ROM
Hope this helps, it's much easier than it sounds, follow the sticky threads for installing a Custom ROm and HSPL for more detailed info
Oh and let's not forget the advantages of this
Instead of that crappy Web'N'Walk you will have Opera
You will have the YouTube app
You will have more freedom and a MUCH MUCH MUCH more stable and fast ROM
cgrec92,
I can not thank you enough for taking the time to give advice. I'm thinking of installing EnergyROM....what made you chose artemis?
no problem mate, ive been in your situation not a couple of weeks ago
flashing is the best thing you can do for your phone in my opinion
and after a bit of flashing you can familiarize yourself with the MTTY process and make the process even faster!
energy rom is very good, its one of the best out there, I have however heard there are some issues with fast battery drain? but above all its a very good rom
i use artemis 5.5 because it is almost identical to the original rom that comes with the phone, with tweaks to make it more stable, MUCH faster and smoother, everything updated, has a document reader tab, in my opinion it's the most stable
I have been using for some 5 days now and have found NO bugs whatsoever
as opposed to the odd 80 bugs in the tmobile ROM
its all a matter of taste my friend, if you dont like the energy rom, install another one!
theyre all being constantly updated with the latest updates, builds, and tweaks
flashing is fun!
oh and I forgot to add that some custom ROM's require a specific radio and this must be flashed before the ROM is installed, this is dead simple and takes half a minute
let me explain
a radio is a piece of software which controls communications such as phone calls, text messaging, 3G, internet etc. different radios have different effects, for example better signal, better battery life, better data handling
if i remember correctly the t-mobile rom comes with radio v 2.04
at the moment there is a radio v 2.08 again it's a matter of preference, find which one gives you the best signal and battery life!
to install is simple, the radio comes in a .nbh aswell, usually about 25mb which is very small
just like installing a ROM, put this .nbh in the same folder as the CustomRUU and flash the radio using CustomRUU, just like flashing a ROM!
you will not need to do a hard reset, when the phone restarts your new radio will be installed and ready to use
I guess i'm going to become a flasher now!
Thank you for advice. i'll post any further questions in ROM forum after i decide which Rom to go with.
thank you.
HI,
agreed I have a t-mobile hd2 and it's the best option flash a new rom, also I sent my phone back under warranty and fwas ully fixed no quible just had to back out the hpsl as pointed out earlier in this thread it all works...
thanks daveyg99,
i guess you both know its a big decision to make your 1st flash.....gulp...brave pill taken.....just chosing radio and rom now.........
good man
any problems just post back on xda youll get answers within a couple minutes
sorry cgrec92,
question......im looking at HSPL......it says check spl version is 1.42.0000 check by holding volume down button and reset....
how do i do this?
turn your phone off
press the button to turn your phone back on again but hold down the VolDown button
it'll bring you to a 4-coloured screen with a bit of text
it should say spl 1.42.0000
take the battery out and put it back in and turn your phone back on normally
job done
thanks done it....1.42..ok.. I hadn't turned the phone off first doh!
hspl done
great work
now all you have to do is choose your ROM
ok going for energyROM 21892 with cookie...the more stable one......dl now......42min left...
good choice my friend
the download file will include a .nbh file, make sure to rename this file as RUU_Signed.nbh if it hasn't been done so already
the download might include a CustomRUU which will be used to flash the ROM
if it doesnt then this can be downloaded from the sticky threads aswell
let us know how it goes
Hello.
This is my first post, so please be kind to me!
I've spent the past few weeks trying to get my head around what to do in order to flash my HD2 which is on the t_mobile network
The original rom 1.43 i think is driving me crazy and I now dont care if I change the rom and it invalidates the warenty!
In order to HSPL I need to SPL first, but will my device allow this?
I've read through so many threads that I am completely confused and dont know which way to turn, never mind which thread to re-read.
Can someone point me to the sspl, HSPL to upgrade to 1.66
Thanks
Glyn
oh its the 512 version
you are over confusing yourself.
download hspl 2
instal it - choose whichever hspl you like (may as well go for 2.08.hspl)
flash whatever rom you like from usb. (don't forget to flash a compatible radio either before or straight after.)
Thanks for your reply......
so downloan the HSPL from here?
'forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477'
and as I run the program I'll get the option of which version to install?
What should I look for to make sure that the radio is compatible with the rom?
Thanks again and sorry for my ignorance
Glyn
best thing you can do is to read a lot. No need to do enerything in one mad dash.
get HSPL2 from HERE - end of the first post (but read the post, dont just skip to download, )
run it as administrator (right click, run as administrator)
for best results use a usb port on the back of your PC (i.e one directly on teh motherboard, not an external usb slot) it will ask what version you want to install. just go for 2.08.hspl (not 2.08.0000) and let it do its thing. the authors say you should match the version to the rom (so 1.43.hspl for roms that are 1.43 or 1.48, 1.66.HSPL for 1.6 based roms, etc, but it isn't critical, most will run on any HSPL, so dont go changing every time you flash a new rom, no need. If it doesnt work then change it.)
As for radio tips, a radio with .51. in the number, (eg 2.09.51.03) will NOT work with any rom that has the 576meg ram, enabled.
If you flash a rom and all you get when you restart is a grey screen, chances are the radio doesnt match. Boot to bootloader and flash the radio.
But most of all, read stuff.
What about shipped rom's that are .exe files? Do they include radios with it? Also, is there a post you can point me to that has a list of compatible radios with different rom's?
that's where reading comes in. the whole process has so many variants that there is no simple "a b c" that covers everything.
yes the exe includes radio (and also spl if you use sd card to flash -stay away from sd card, use usb and if anything goes wrong you just boot to bootloader and re flash)
the chefs give you all the infoyou need in the first couple of posts. the sticky threads in the rom development section will tell you how to do everything, and any problem you encounter has beenwritten about already. so read, search and read.
I suggest you flash Stock WWE 1.66 ROM first so you can have a feel of how much improvement
has been done from 1.43
you can download it in HTC website.
Thanks for your help so far..
I would like to go for the 1.66 official ROM first, so I'll find that on here first and find the exe file so I dont have to mess about with compatible radio's.
Just before I HSPL it, I would like a copy of the original 1.43 T-Mobile ROM, so better get searching.
Thanks again
Glyn
the original 1.43 T-Mobile ROM is on HTCs website so get it from there as a backup
THANKYOU!!
Thankyou so much for your help and guidance.
Last night I decided to just do it - the phone was so poor I couldn't take it anymore.
3 hours from start of backing up, to installing HSPL2, to flashing with 1.66, anf then restoring data
I cant believe the transformation - I am so pleased I didnt throw it at a wall!!!
So a massive thanks to the members of this community
im in the same boat... got a stock uk hd2 on tmobile and wasn't to flash a new rom but the information is overwhelming and im scared I will flash a wrong rom and kill my phone :0)

theres nothing to it. the 'normal' hd2 which you do have, is about the safest phone to flash in the world today, with HSPL2. The 'radios killing phones' problem that started last week is specific to the t mobile US model only, , the one with 1 gig rom.
If you install HSPL on your phone, and then only flash over USB, the very worst that will happen (from a software point of view) is that the phone stops at a grey screen, and/or only boots into bootloader, so you boot into bootloader, you flash something else, and it's fixed.
The T Mo UK stock rom is available to download as backup, (as is o2 and voda for anyone looking) in the 'LEO official roms' thread in rom development, first post, first link, first folder (1.43)
At any time, you can flash that rom from sd card (look it up if you need to) and restore everything, spl, radio and rom, , to factory settings.
In all honesty, so long as you are careful, methodical, don't pull out USB cables halfway through, laptop battery dies, etc , then you are more likely to get bricked from some freak incident, like , umm, battery dieing, heh.
Fear not! be smart, be careful, try to understand what you are doing and why at each step, read up on what an spl is, and the job is , as they say, sorted.

Do you have an idiots guide?... i really am an idiot when it comes to stuff like this!
I have downloaded HSPL2 file.
I have downloaded the back up 1.43 Stock Rom

Hi Samsamuel,
Thanks.. just one more thing.
Saw on youtube that i have to format my SC card
youtube.com/watch?v=nrmlqrfCvas[/url]
is this so and is this referring to the sd card in the HTC or my own sd card used to download the 1.66 onto?
regards

PS. why won't this forum allow me to send you a PM?.. i can't send any msg's at all.
I'm searching and reading various threads to try to get a grasp of where I stand but I haven't had a WMO phone in so long that it's taking me a little bit to get reacquainted with the process. That said, I traded my iPhone for an HD2 and my guess is that the guy had modded this a bit but I don't know what "stock" is for the HD2 and all that jazz. So here's what I have sitting in front of me:
SPL 2.08.HSPL
ROM version: Kumar's TMob P1.4 WWE
Radio version: 2.08.50.08_2
Flash size: 1024
Now, the phone's a little buggy from time to time in that the wrong time will display and the phone will lock up and need to be hard booted to get it going again and I'm wondering if it's because of the set up that's installed on it or what not? I'm going to keep researching and re-teaching myself on how to install custom ROMs and find one that I think will suit me best (it should come back to me in a bit ... the basics anyway) but if you guys could help me out and let me know where I stand and some suggestions on where I should go from here, that would be cool. I know this is a n00b question but I also know some of you enjoy helping people learn. I'm not asking for anyone to teach me how to do all of this ... I can learn that from the various threads.
i assume this is a TMOUS HD2?
one piece of advice i'll give you is not to flash your radio to any of the .51 variants as it will brick your phone.
eg. your radio is 2.08.50.08_2 -> do not get one with .51
radio's control your communications, 3g, wifi, sms, chatting etc and has effects on battery life
spl 2.08 HSPL means your phone is unlocked and you can run any ROM you like (CHECK FOR COMPATIBILITY WITH US TMOB) -> download HSPL2 and you can change this to w/e version you like.
kumar is one of the ROMS available.
if your phone is buggy i recommend looking at the task 29 stickies, these format your phone so you can install a new rom on a fresh device
Oh, yes, sorry ... TMOUS.
That's exactly the kind of feedback and guidance I'm looking for. Thank you very much. I'll make sure to refer to this as I go. At least I can be a little pleased that he did some of the work for me by unlocking it ... less steps for me.
Other feedback is welcome and appreciated.
a few pointers.
the 1024 flash size means it is a t mobile us (tmous) version.
most things will work just fine, there are two things you really need to know.
roms - your phone will only take roms based on version 2.1. find your roms in the tmous dedicated rom development section, not this rom development section. if you flash thee wrong rom the phone will hang at the boot screen, but is not permanent.just boot to bootloader and re flash.
radio - this is IMPORTANT. any radio with a 51 in the version WILL KILL YOUR PHONE STONE DEAD.
so example a radio called 2.09.51.x will destroy your phone, no known way to fix at the moment.
radios with a 50 in the version are fine. example 2.08.50.x will work.
in response to the other poster, you should only use spl 2.08.hspl, since thee only roms that work are 2.1 it would be pointless and possibly risky to use any lower version of spl/hspl
Okay, awesome. Thank you. You guys rock. I appreciate the help.
.cab files are the windows mobile setup files, they can be ran straight from your phone.
when you download a ROM, you will be given a .nbh file and an installer .exe, the installer and the ROM must be placed in the same folder.
to enter the phone's bootloader, hold down the VolumeDown key while turning on your phone, here you can also install ROM's without having to start the phone, especially useful because if you flash a ROM while the phone is on, battery checks etc will prevent you from flashing, very annoying if you have 49% battery, flashing from the bootloader prevents this.
hard resetting your phone (recommended after ROM flash): press the power button to turn on the phone WHILST holding down both VolumeUp and VolumeDown buttons, press VolumeUp when prompted, this is a hard reset, it simply wipes data from the phone and makes it setup like when you first got it.
currently on your Today screen on the phone, I presume there are 3 icons, and when you scroll down there is a 3x3 grid in which you can add icons to, do a search for Cookie's Home Tab, it adds more links, more functionality, and generally looks much better
You guys are awesome. I know it's frustrating to explain the basics over and over but I appreciate the time you've taken to respond.
Okay, I successfully ran task 29 and then installed a stock ROM (with radio 50) and everything seems to be working well. I think I'm going to leave it like this for a bit and see what I like and don't like about the stock ROM and then I can make a better choice about which ROM to go with if I decide to customize. I sincerely appreciate your help, guys.
sounds like a good idea
I'm glad we were of help
Hello all,
I have searched (and searched) and came across a lot of info on this site about changing/flashing ROMs, etc etc but was hoping for some simple advice and response to my particular question. I am going to soon have the HTC HD T8285 Australia Telstra model for use in the U.S. on At&T's network. The phone comes stock with WM 6.1, if I chose to change that to perhaps an Energy ROM or Dutty's or whatever (that simulates WM 6.5), what are the simple and basic steps one would need to follow to do that for this particular device? I know there are "how to's" on here, but to be honest they are kinda confusing, overlap or have some if/then parameters that I don't understand as a somewhat new person to flashing a ROM. Can anyone give any specific steps and advice that is easy to follow to accomplish a flash on this phone? GREATLY appreciate the help!!!
i went the same route months ago buying the touch hd from austrailia. you should have some knowledge about flashing else what I'm about to say will sound like greek:
i suggest using uspl to do your flashing. what you will need is uspl or hspl (depending on preference), task 29, radio of your choice since it will come with an old radio, rlphone (i suggest rlphone 1.15 if you choose radio 1.17) of your choice, rom of your choice. below will be the steps i use and i use uspl:
- put phone in bootloader mode (turn phone off and hold vol down button and hit the power button), connect to pc, and run uspl. you will see "uspl 1.15" appear on your screen
- task 29 with the radio nbh in the same folder. once finished your phone will restart but wont go past the "smart mobility" screen. normal; just take teh battery out
- run uspl again. you will see uspl 1.15 again
- download the rom of your choice
done. i can simplify it a lil more, i have detailed instructions home but not here. this is just off the top of my head. whole process should take about 20 mins.

Let's say I'm new to doing this, first timer, and I have an HTC HD T8285 that appears to be locked to Telstra. What spelled out steps do I need to take to flash to a new rom? I know how to use a computer, etc..I do it for a living, just not too keen on this stuff and probably need to be spoon fed.
It can't be spelt out any simpler than the Dummies Guide which is posted as a sticky on this forum. If it is difficult for you to scroll upward, here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
To be honest, if you can't follow these very clear and simple step-by-step instructions, you'd be better off not doing it.
I used these to flash my HD which, to be fair, is a more complicated process than my previous Orbit. The first couple of times failed because I missed a step through thinking I knew better than the author.
So don't guess, don't skip, just print the instructions, read them through first, assemble the downloads you need then follow the instructions precisely, ticking them off as you go.
This has been a step-by-step guide to following the step-by-step guide already written.
Oh, and you should ask questions about following the guide in that thread, not this one.
Memory/Storage Space?
After flashing a rom (Energy) on this device, just curious if anyone else with the same model (T8285 or T8282) noticed a significant drop in the memory specs as follows??:
"Storage Total" stock spec is 512MB...I show 260MB....where's the missing 252MB??
"Program Total" stock spec is 288MB...I show 190MB....where's the missing 98MB??
