Benefits of using 'lite' roms - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

From my understanding when you launch haret.exe the windows kernel is shut down and the linux kernel is loaded in its place and the only reason we need to boot into winmo in the first place it to initialize the hardware (and we dont have a bootloader capable of flashing android roms). So since the winmo kernel is completely shut down and replaced by the linux one why does using a 'lite' rom make any difference?

im wondering this to cause i see no advantage, my android runs good off all roms i tried. No SOD, or other problems.

i dun really understand it too.. but when i was using my custom rom for winmo dail use my notification LED would light up when i am in android..
after i flashed to chuckydroid lite rom, the LED blinking bug disappeared..

It's the speed that makes the whole difference. It used to take me about 2 min to reboot artemis rom and another 2~3 min to boot into android.
With NRG barbone rom it only takes me about 1 min for both tasks above.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using TapaTalk

I had SOD with all Android ROMS and Zimage files until I stated usings chucky's rom, which is an extremely stripped down WM rom.
Not exactly sure why this works better, but from my understanding, WM will shutdown when you load Haret, but the the drivers and hardware configuration booted from windows will be used to run linux. I'm thinking the lite ROM load only what's necessary and and load fewer hardware configurations.

I guess im lucky cause i get good speed booting to and running android on all roms i tried, no sod either.

ive never had problems with sleep of death (although i did have speedy issues) with any rom ive used with android (which is a lot) however i do see it makes a huge difference for some people so i guess ive found my answer

Full vs Lite WinMo rom's when running android

Hi everyone
What is peoples oppinion on full winmo roms like VBN or Energy and also using Android? Or do you go for the lite versions which should be more Android friendly?
Currently i am running VBN Droid Rom but i am missing a few features in the lite versions... Wondering to go back to the full roms but just thought i would ask around what your experience is with the full winmo roms compared to the lite ones
Thank you all
radio and rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651729 is a great full tweaked rom that works perfect with android!! give it a try youll love it!! i used lite roms for android and the elegancia works just as good! more important than the rom is the radio it will make all the difference! 2.12.50.2_02 works best for most http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787!!!

Ditto here.
Always been an Energy Rom user, but thought I would give ChuckyDroid a go, as basically using Android as my day to day OS.
I found that with ChuckyDroid I was having more screen freezes and hard freezes (pull the battery), so switched back to Energy.
I believe there isn't much difference between the full and lite roms when running Android, its just down to personal experience and what works for you best.
As long as the Rom is Android friendly, and has the correct files cooked in to stop Robovoice etc, you won't see much difference apart from mainly the boot up speed if your booting straight into Android. As there was a considerable difference booting to Android using ChuckyDroid compared to Energy. ChuckyDroid was lightening quick.

Please define "Android friendly", or is that what chef just saying to make you feel comfortable, more confident to use with Android?
I cooked my own rom from the kitchen, I just unchecked this, unchecked that....then... you know....,I know nothing about Linux, Android, and my rom just run perfect with any Android build.
oh, I put a line says " this rom specially made to run Android", maybe that make my homemade rom "Android friendly".

There are several .dll files that need to be in your build.... Im searching for the thread, as Im no expert but have read on this.
These files may already be in your base ROm when uploading, but the Roms that were having the problem with Robovoice I believe these files were added and if not fixed the problem were part of the reason it was fixed.
Edit....given up searching for the posts (so many to look through with key words such as robovoice, files, rom, android etc) but from what I can remember it was dll files taken from a stock 2.10 rom, which helped with the problem.
Edit again....Found the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=757914 Actually reading back it doesn't give a definite answer if theses files did work, but it sounds like they did for pkoper.
I've tried ChuckyDroid & it was very good if you're running Android 24/7, but it's VERY lightweight. I'm using VBN now because I wanna have a usable WM rom just in case something happens to my Android installation(card dies, gets corrupted, etc.) & I'm not able to fix it right away. I've noticed no difference in performance upon switching roms. That said- I got robo-voice BAD on the stock WM rom, and it went away as soon as I flashed a custom rom.

I'm using a pre-Android EnergyROM for WinMo and it works fine. So not so sure about the correct files being cooked in?
One thing I've found is that Sense will get corrupted for some reason. So make sure you disable Sense (and then restart) before jumping into Android.
It'd work a few times, then on my 4th or whatever reboot into Android, Sense would decide to die. Not sure why, as Android isn't meant to interact with WinMo, but it would.

[Q] android 2.2 system problems

hey guys i have an htc hd2 tmobile usa with the android 2.2 system and i have not flashed a custom rom on it yet.. right now my android system itself wastes a **** load of battery and there are other problems like the custom radio.... i cant make calls... i was wondering if i flash it using a custom rom will this fix my problems??? most importantly the battery problem... cause it wastes a **** load of battery just the system itself.. let me know quickly!!!
Yes, if you would read, you would know that most Android distros don't work with the stock ROM and radio. The only one that I have found that does is the Desire HD build, seems to work awesomely with the stock ROM. If you are hell bent on running Android, you need to flash to an Android compatible custom ROM, and apply HardSPL. The battery problem is a universal thing. It happens on nearly every distro of Android, so just try a bunch and see which one fits your needs.

so u have to find a stock rom that will fit android??? can u help me find one.... and i would like to find a stock rom that would lessen my android system battery use... cause the percentage of the battery use for my android system which is the desire build is over 50%... so as u can see this android system really waste a lot of my battery.. u think there is a stocl rom that will fix this problem???

i mean a custom rom not a stock rom.... im looking for a custom rom that will work well with android and lessen the battery use percentage of it.. cause the android system itself uses 50% of the battery.. i was wondering if there was a custom rom that will fix this and work well with android desire build.
The android builds are made to kill winmo when it runs. Ive read a post with tips one was to start android as soon as android boots up which did help me. Also i know the chuckydroid rom is really lite and boots fast. Ugly as hell but its not meant to look nice.

check my signature; I've started a thread for VBN Rom, as it's down, look for deamansink...
Most winmo roms will work fine. Getting a light winmo rom doesn't make any difference ... if you're still gonna use winmo, you might as well get a full rom. Only difference that winmo roms may make with android is based on the base used in the winmo rom, not the size or what's included in the rom.

I don't completely agree with you. When I switched to vbn at first and later to Ozdroid, I noticed that there is a difference in startup time. Lighter WM Roms are booting quicker IMHO, which is an advantage if you want to start booting Android as quick as you can...
Sincerely,
Mac

And that''s it, right? Used to have oz and vbn. Now, I am using Dutty's com3 v10. Same booting time with oz and vbn and I also get 4-6mA on standby.
I've used VBN, my own cooked, NRG, and every ROM you can imagine.
Honestly, the best for battery life, speed, and working everything seems to be Energy with a 2.15.50 radio.

NAND ROM

What is the NAND that you guys thinking that is very fast and stable for daily use, and also working everything?
Instead of running Android as a dual boot off of the sd card as was the case up until 31 December, running Android off NAND (internal memory) overwrites winmo so you can run it as the only os on your phone. It's not perfect but I prefer it to winmo (IMHO ). You can read the rom threads where the devs tell you what works and what doesn't, but apart from 720p video recording pretty much all else works. Try a rom out and if you don't like it, flash back to winmo.

Thank you for your first reply, but I very like to using android on my HD2, So I try to find suitable rom for myself, changed it many rom but are not stable to my some have bug, some have error problem, but I will try again, what is your suggestion?
Tastes vary, but you can find the link to the rom I'm using in my signature. I'd wait a few hours though as Sergio is bringing out an update which the test team claims is going to be awesome.

[Q] Nand or Sd or??????

Hey guys, I have an htc hd2 that has Coredroid hd2 ver 1.6 on it....I installed this using magldr and daf .....this phone is used, but new to me, and I know nothing about this daf stuff...lol....I want to put Cyanogenmod 7 back on it...I downloaded one version but gave me errors when I tried to use magldr to get it to install...I dont recall the errors....I think some usb thing...afraid to try again...lol
Does using daf.exe in the rom file mean this is a nand configuration on the phone?.....What can I do to get cyanogenmod7 on it?.....Could someone provide me with a direct link to a rom that will work....I thought I had the right ones, but couldnt get it to flash so I chose coredroid...but phone is buggy with that and cm7 rocks.......I would really appreciate it....Sorry...I have googled and oogled all over, but I am gettting deeper in confusion....Thanks so much....Larry
try AmericanAndroid . it is based on cyanogenmod 7 and its an SD build.. really smooth and fast. i am currently using it.. i have dual boot with WP7 Nand and americanandroid on SD card with MAGLDR

i didnt like a few things about American Android where the DPI of the text was quite small which resulted in a few ugly looking interfaces such as
applications
unlock screen
menu settings etc
notifications bar
dont get me wrong, i used a build from early April 2011
i hope those are resolved by now or could be fixed, which I admit I didnt explore

I would agree as well. AmericanAndroid was my first foray into Android on my HD2 (getting my TP2 to work w/ Android at all was a huge struggle). In any event, it's a build I can use for my day-to-day work. I have everything I need working, 3G, wireless, GPS, texts, phone, gmail, Exchange email, maps, Facebook , twitter, etc...to tell you the truth I haven't gone back to WinMo since. I still like WinMo and NRG's ROM's with all the great customizations that Poyensa, Nordpolcamper,MrBeOTP2, lnando84, etc do. But I saw that I was making my phone more and more like Android, so why not just use Android? Good luck!
I have wp7 on nand and half of my sd, then dual boot sd Android build with the other half, my current build I am trying is BOYPPC honeycomb ginger thingy, developers are getting back into sd builds now the rush to nand has subsided a little, my thoughts are if you have a device capable of running two operating builds via dual boot, why not user it, NAND is just turning your hd2 into a almost hd desire but not quite, WP7 only turns your hd2 into an hd7 almost but not quite, in my many many tests and trials with my hd2 over the last year NAND and SD builds have very little differences now, in fact I find my latest sd build has a minimal unlock lag as apposed to the slightly more lag with the nands.
So really unless your an Android only or wp7 only fan or possibly a windows mobile only fan use the DUAL Force Luke...
WP7 DB Android SD then
Windows mobile 6.5.5 DB android sd next NAND android then WP7
WOULDN'T it be great if we could quad boot

You can change the LCD density to 240 easily using AmeriCanAndroid.
I remember that I did change it to 240, but still somethings was looking funny and odd , but not everything
maybe I should give this a GO again
AmeriCanAndroid SD build is stable enough. Try it.. there's FAQ which will guide you through the set up.

they've actually changed the default dpi again (to 167), but once again its adjustable.
I think it is currently the only stable (near stock) Gingerbread SD rom available?

MccM HD V4.5
A few hours ago. Mr. mccmjoon76 has updated a newest version of MCCM HD v4.5. I am just downloading it and of course will give a try asap when the dl has finished!! I have tried all builds from him and I really like them, mate!!! Thanks very much to Mr. mccmjoon76
For the AmeriCanAndroid builds are very stable and smooth which I have been using since 032611! It hasn't give me much trouble except some programs will only display very small on the screen and I am sure there are ways to fix it but I just don't know how!!!
i use 3 android roms im my sd now. Americandroid is really fast and stable. its looking isnt so good but withsome widgets i have a nicer scene. second is coredroid , a desire hd build ,it is also fast and has sense. third is miui rom, its very nice but has many problems.i flashed many version of it and found a stable one. i tried almost all sd roms in xda, these three are my favourites.
