Hey Everyone,
I had purchased the Xperia X10i when it first came out. Everything is good but I am starting to regret that it cannot work with my current carrier's 3G, which is AT&T. I want to know if anyone is interested in swapping their X10a with mine.
Just a brief overview of my phone: it is in its perfect form. Phone has never been dropped, no scratch what so ever. The phone came with screen protector like every other X10. The phone has also been in its silicone protective case since day one. I have all the original accessories, documentation and box.
We can work out detail on how to make sure both you and I are getting what we want. BTW, I am located in Southern California, USA.
Willing to look at all interested swappers. Thanks!
Actually you can change the ROM version from x10i ROM to x10a ROM.
I did it once, change my xperia x10a ROM to x10i ROM since the update for x10a hasn't out yet that time, however i forgot how to do it since I lost my phone.
That's awesome news! But do you know if it effectively change the 3G band from x10i which has 900/1700/2100 to x10a that has 850/1900/2100?
I'll do some search. Thanks again.
But for anyone that is still interested, please feel free to PM me.
changing roms from x10i to x10a will NOT change the bands. You will still be stuck at 850/1900/2100. The bands are related to the hardware, not software. And it's a pain to switch it back to the original rom since you're phone wont be recognized by SEUS anymore.
Bummer, changing the ROM would not alternate the 3G band in which the phone is running.
Any body that is currently on AT&T with Xperia X10 and want to switch carrier to TMobile? Then you might want to consider this trade.
Wondering if there is any interested parties? Thanks a lot!!

i had an X10i on AT&T and i simply bought an X10A after a month. 3G is defiantly worth it. You will probably be able to sell the X10i for atleast $400 on Ebay. Especially if more people learn about the phone once it comes out on AT&T and happen to be on T-Mobile and want it. I'm about to sell my X10i soon.

You got a good point there! That was my original intention as well, but thought I might as well try my luck first. Thanks a lot!
But for those who might still be interested in taking a trade, please feel free to PM me. I won't list the phone for auction for another week or so.
Thank!
you know, I'd be real keen, but unfortunately we're just too far away - geographically speaking.

they work on different frequency bands/ bandwidths
X10a has the 800/850/1900/2100 3G band. The bands that AT&T 3G and Roger uses.
X10i has 900 / 1700 / 2100 3G band. You can use this phone on TMobile USA and most Asian and European countries.

Hi All,
I have an X10a and am on Tmobile US. The box states:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS/HSPA BAND
I should be able to get the TMOBILE 3g correct? Anyone know why I would not be getting it? I thought 900 was the frequency for tmobile USA.
3g is only for att in usa.
You will get edge in tmob
will debranding change this?
Debranding will not help it at all. Bands are hardware related and not software. You need x10i.

You are just who I am looking for!!!
nkn_1,
I think we might be able to help each other!
Two weeks ago on a trip to PI, I bought an X10i, thinking it was the correct frequencies for AT&T... Needless to say at this point, no 3G for me.
If you would be interested, I would be happy to switch my X10i (T-Mobile freqs) for your x10a (AT&T freqs).
Hopefully yours is WHITE, as mine is. I will consider the black if that is what you have, but will have to think about it...
Mine phone is in perfect condition. The only flaw is the screen PROTECTOR (applied before leaving the store). The upper right corner caught on my case, and peeled slightly away. Try as I might, I can't get it back to a perfect seal. But ZERO damage to the screen...
I assume that since yours is new, that yours is also in new condition?
Just to make sure, yours is unlocked/unbranded, like mine, right?
I will send you a PM with contact info...
I have an x10a and would love to trade for an x10i because im on tmobile and i pay for 3g so this would really help located in socal pm or text currently using different phone 714 622 8573
couldnt understand the reason of changing =)
what do you mean? i been reading around and i found tha x10a has a different radio then x10i and it wont run tmobile 3g network unless i get x10i so thats the reason for the switch. and even if i debrand and flash x10i the radio wont change. that's what i read sorry i'm sort of new to the android thing.
He just want a X10i for the 3G option, because the X10a is not compatible with t-mobile 3G
That is my understanding in just the opposite for AT&T. I have an open/unlocked X10i I purchased in Singapore and when I use it on AT&T I can't get 3g. I think I need an X10a.
The problem is that I travel to Asia alot and it works fine there with 3g and local SIMs.
I'm looking at rerooting, but not sure if it will make a difference and work on AT&T w/3G

i think you might just be better of with the x10a. both the x10i and a have the 2100 band which is what asia uses mostly. and the x10a has 850/1900 which is what AT&T uses
i dont know if you guys are aware of the situation here, your X10a is sim locked to at&t, so unless you can get it unlocked. other wise, the one who traded this phone with you will be stuck with AT&T.

thats good for ya actually, my post was for OP
ok, i am pretty happy with my x10a but will be travelling to key west florida in about a month. what id like to know is whats the latest android device in the usa with a hard keyboard? ive heard about the droid global but not much. im asking because i am from canada and we are always 6+ months behind cell technology so id like to pickup a new device as good or better than the x10. i do a massive amount of texting which is why im thinking of the hard keyboard option. i am also with rogers canada so i would need advice as to what phones would even be compatible on their network, and obiously be able to sim unlock it.
i look forward to your guys opinion, as im lost on devices outside of canada thanks guys!

The U.S. is 2 years behind. So you are lucky!
You are probably better off getting advice from people in Europe/Asia/Middle East. They get all the good stuff before us is North America.

For 3G, at&t and Rogers use the same band, I think 800/850/1900. T-mobile uses a different band, I think 900/1700. Most European/Asian/Middle Eastern countries use 2100. South America and Australia, use a mix of both depending on the operator.

Yeah, definitely SIM unlocked so you can switch between Rogers and at&t.
so i guess im at the point in finding out if att sells anything better than the x10. since i do still enjoy my x10 it would have to be equal or better in specs imo.

You could go into a AT&T store while you are here, and get a free "GO" phone which is a monthly prepaid thing for your stay. And get a Google Voice number before you leave.
Leave the X10 connected and set it to forward the calls to the Google Voice (I don't know if Rogers would charge you for this or you would need a US google number or not) and link the Google Voice to your temporary Go phone. Depending on how much you were willing to pay, you could get a free flip phone or pay for anything up to a blackberry.
You would need access at least once to a PC after getting the phone to reconfigure Google to transfer the calls and SMS the phone with the texted version of any voice message.
Even Walmart has these too: http://www.walmart.com/ip/AT-T-Nokia-C3-Prepaid-GoPhone-Blue/15140306
the HTC desire Z seems like a viable option!
To be honest rogers had the x10 before att got it. They aren't that far behind the north American curve, but if you want a good phone, get a bell desire z. Then unlock it. The bell one has a front facing camera and it'll work on rogers. Plus it has the hard fold out keyboard.

im in the usa but the Arc(LT15i) 3G will not work in the usa.
the question is if i buy the LT15i now and dump the LT15a rom on it when it is released , will the 3G work ?
Simply, No.

If I understand your question right, the answer is NO. 3G is hardware dependable and if you don't have it no matter what ROM you put on, it won't work. You need to wait for a LT15a cellphone. Soon, just wait a little bit and you can get one from Rogers in Canada probably on eBay.
thnx
i recall on the x10i that it was flashed with the x10a to get the 3G working on AT&T
and vice versa with the X10a Flashed with X10i to work in international countries.
but you are saying that it is a hardware issue, so now im confused. i sold my x10 and now im with a prehistoric phone waiting on the decision whether to wait for the Arc LT15a or just get the LT15i.
one other thing im not sure if there will be an unlocked LT15a
thanks for the info anyway
Sorry if I shattered your dream but unfortunately it is hardware frequencies that stops it from changing.
I am also waiting for LT15a and I will get Rogers and unlock it on ebay. I bought my X10 when it came out in Canada last year the same way.
Good Luck.
If you are asking if you buy an LT15i will it work on ATT 3G --> NO
If you are asking if you have an LT15a and flash a LT15i ROM on it will it work? --> Probably.
no i basically want to buy an LT15i and flash it with a LT15a to get 3G to work in the USA .
im giving myself a week to see if the LT15a is released

It will NOT work. So do not waste your money. The 3G frequencies are hardware related and not software related. For example, if you have a Comcast set-top box you can't get DirecTV programming even if you dump the DirecTV set-top box software onto the Comcast set-top box. Why is that I hear you wondering? Well, because you need a satellite dish to get DirecTV programming. I hope my point came across.
hi
ok thanks for the info guys . luckly i didnt go ahead and buy the LT15i. iguess i will wait for the LT15a .

I just made a thread about the 3G not working the US for this phone. Unlocking it might be only option. Since it's simple I might run to you for answers when the time comes. Let's all hope soon, because I want this phone and after spending 3 hours shopping for others because I thought this phone just wouldn't work out because of the 3G problems and wifi issues I'm glad to see there's still hope.

Anyone has tried it to chance a LT15i rom to an LT15a rom yet? because I saw on ebay Spain a LOT of less price for the Arc vs ebay USA.
Thanks
That would be nice, wouldn't it? There would also be no need for Sony Ericsson to make an LT15i and an LT15a. They would make just one, and dish out different ROMs for different regions and carriers (T-Mo, hello!).
So, NO! It wont work.
Ok guys the Dcomo SO-01c (japanese xperia) has been successfuly unlocked and working on the U.S 3G network
so you dont have to wait for SE USA or Rogers no more
the bands it uses are
GSM/GPRS/Edge 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS/HSPA bands 1/2/5/6
which is equivalent to 2100/1900/850/800
possibly WCDMA for verizon will work (correct me if i am wrong) which is a big positive on this japanese version , another positive is being available in three colors.
blue
pink
silver
the phone comes with a 16gb memory card
i ordered the pink color for someone and i will order a silver one for myself
so you dont have to wait for SE USA or Rogers no more
i am so glad that this has worked after so many people have doubted that it would work and been told not to waste my money.
i dont want to waste your time explaining my story on how i got the courage to risk trying one and how i found out it will work, but if you want to know i will gladly answer ur questions.
i found a japanese seller that happened to know some english and willing to help and luckily he had an ebay account.
he sold me the phone for $770 including superfast shipping. he said he could sell it to me for $720 on paypal but i chose ebay since it was my first time.
if you can find other sellers good luck . the phone at docomo is around $600 without shipping
i got called by FCC to fill a form and send it to them to be able to get cleared by customs which i did.
when i got the phone all i did was unlock it using ezSEMC and purchased 10 credits from a provider and took about 1 minute to unlock.
http://www.2shared.com/document/F9cAO3Z5/xperia_arc_unlock_instructions.html
it can also be unlocked via entering unlock code provided by cellunlocker.net($8) or other different sites
all you have to do is flash the LT15i rom or the Lt15a rom and you will be able to get the unlock code screen
user morita0107 has unlocked it by entering an unlock code after flashing the LT15 rom on it(same way as x10)
3G popped the moment i put the APN settings which i got help from nimche who has been a great deal of help and support. He has also uploaded the rom for the LT15a which i will flash later on.
download LT15a rom from here (thanks Nimche)

feel free to ask any questions . (Nimche can also answer if i get busy)
i have an ebay invoice up for grabs if anyone wants it for the black color
and i can contact the seller to prepare one for you if you want silver or pink
i have flashed the device with the LT15a rom and everything is working fine, even the Docomo logo in the begining dissappeared

This is fantastic news.
However... just one question remains for me:
Bootloader. Are you carrier-locked or free as the air we breathe?
You'll need 1700 mhz to get 3G on Tmobile, which the Arc doesn't have. If you can live with edge only on Tmo then no prob. No manufacturer supports AWS (1700 mhz) unless it's a Tmo US phone.
WCDMA actually refers to GSM band 850/1900 (I think those are the frequencies), regardless it is a GSM distinction not what you think of in the US as CDMA. So no, it won't work on Verizon. Even if it was a CDMA device you'd still have to get VzW to allow it's ESN on their network and that's not easy, not saying it's impossible, just difficult.
