Hey Everyone,
I had purchased the Xperia X10i when it first came out. Everything is good but I am starting to regret that it cannot work with my current carrier's 3G, which is AT&T. I want to know if anyone is interested in swapping their X10a with mine.
Just a brief overview of my phone: it is in its perfect form. Phone has never been dropped, no scratch what so ever. The phone came with screen protector like every other X10. The phone has also been in its silicone protective case since day one. I have all the original accessories, documentation and box.
We can work out detail on how to make sure both you and I are getting what we want. BTW, I am located in Southern California, USA.
Willing to look at all interested swappers. Thanks!
Actually you can change the ROM version from x10i ROM to x10a ROM.
I did it once, change my xperia x10a ROM to x10i ROM since the update for x10a hasn't out yet that time, however i forgot how to do it since I lost my phone.
That's awesome news! But do you know if it effectively change the 3G band from x10i which has 900/1700/2100 to x10a that has 850/1900/2100?
I'll do some search. Thanks again.
But for anyone that is still interested, please feel free to PM me.
changing roms from x10i to x10a will NOT change the bands. You will still be stuck at 850/1900/2100. The bands are related to the hardware, not software. And it's a pain to switch it back to the original rom since you're phone wont be recognized by SEUS anymore.
Bummer, changing the ROM would not alternate the 3G band in which the phone is running.
Any body that is currently on AT&T with Xperia X10 and want to switch carrier to TMobile? Then you might want to consider this trade.
Wondering if there is any interested parties? Thanks a lot!!

i had an X10i on AT&T and i simply bought an X10A after a month. 3G is defiantly worth it. You will probably be able to sell the X10i for atleast $400 on Ebay. Especially if more people learn about the phone once it comes out on AT&T and happen to be on T-Mobile and want it. I'm about to sell my X10i soon.

You got a good point there! That was my original intention as well, but thought I might as well try my luck first. Thanks a lot!
But for those who might still be interested in taking a trade, please feel free to PM me. I won't list the phone for auction for another week or so.
Thank!
you know, I'd be real keen, but unfortunately we're just too far away - geographically speaking.

they work on different frequency bands/ bandwidths
X10a has the 800/850/1900/2100 3G band. The bands that AT&T 3G and Roger uses.
X10i has 900 / 1700 / 2100 3G band. You can use this phone on TMobile USA and most Asian and European countries.
Hi Guys,
Thanks to the lovely people at AT&T, I'm not the proud owner of an unlocked Dell Streak
They gave me an unlock code over the phone
BIG THUMBS UP AND MANY THANKS TO AT&T
Nice. How did you get them to give you the code?

I just asked them for it, they were actually really helpful. I gave them my IMEI, they put me on hold and 2 minutes later my Streak was unlocked
That's great news!

...but, correct me if I'm wrong, other than ATT US and Telstra (who both use the 850mhz UMTS band), you won't get 3G on any other provider. Right? So what are going to do with it unlocked?
Sorry but I'm still lost as to why folks are selling (and buying) the Streak unlocked or trying to get it unlocked by their carrier. I usually ONLY buy unlocked phones and use them on ATT; but I didn't see the reason to buy the Streak unlocked. It's not a dual, tri or quad band 3G phone.
and rogers in canada. but it doesnt matter. you can still do 2g gsm with any provider and in any country.

I shall correct you...
The AT&T Streak runs 3G on tri-band 850/1900/2100. Yes, Telstra runs on 850. However, as the Streak was NETWORK locked to AT&T, if I put my Telstra sim in the phone would not work. Furthermore, Optus and Vodafone both run a 2100MHz 3G band here in cities and regional centres (even Wagga Wagga). So if I did switch carriers, I could still use it.
You ask what am I going to do with it... I plan on using it with a network other than AT&T i.e. Testra. In order to to that the phone had to be unlocked
I got this AT&T Streak unlocked so I could use it in Australia on the Telstra network. In Australia, Optus have an exclusivity deal with Dell so Telstra do not sell the Streak. Does that clear up with you why I got this phone unlocked? Because when it was locked to AT&T, I could not use it. Now it is unlocked, I can. Simple...

Thanks for that explanation! I saw you were ATT and I assumed that meant you were in the US. It makes sense for you to have it unlocked to use in Wagga Wagga.
Streak and Telstra
I am wanting to upgrade from my Telstra HD2 to a Streak. I was looking at using a my Telstra sim in an 'unlocked' optus unit.I see ATT/Dell US now sell 'unlocked' Streak's.
Did you import your Streak, or should I try to get the 850 working on a Optus?
If you have heard anything regarding optus units, please post.
Thanks

You can't just "get the 850 working" on an Optus Streak. The the frequencies that the phone will operate on is a hardware issue and no software can change that. The Optus Streak will ONLY use the 900/2100 bands for 3G and no amount of unlocking will make it use the 850 band for 3G.
The only Streak that is compatible with the Next G network is the AT&T version and I'm not 100%, but I think the Canadian version is also 850 3G.
I imported my Streak from the USA. If you wait until the 8th of December, you could get yourself either the Black or the Cherry Red unlocked directly from Dell.
http://www.dell.com/us/p/mobile-streak/fs
The only catch is, you need to find someone who is willing to do the ordering and post it for you. This also means that you need to be really confident in the xda member you're dealing with. I recently struck a deal with Killster on this forum, although I have dealt with him in the past. Personally, I prefer the white Streak from Best Buy over the cherry red but they aren't unlocked and you need to try your luck with AT&T to get an unlock code. I have unlocked two Streaks this way but I have no idea if they will unlock the Streak from Best Buy. I have a rebel sim so it's not that big a deal anyway .
Your best be would be to offer a trade for your HD2 plus cash in the Marketplace. Just be careful though, do some research on any xda members you deal with and ALWAYS keep everything public (no dealings finalised in PM).
Hope this helps,
Kris

Well there you go...
Either way, it's not hard to phone AT&T and ask them for a unlock code. I can't guarantee that they'll give you one but I have already unlocked two Streaks this way
Thanks for the info guys.
I saw the Engadget post a few days back, but was unsure about a US based telco giving me an unlock code. It's worth a try.
If I have no luck getting a Dell US unit, I believe Optus only has an exclusive for another month, so Telstra may offer it..?
Vodafone AUS were very forthcoming with a (sim) unlock code for a Legend I own, so it they get the Streak I could could give them a try..
DELL STREAK 5 OFFICIALLY GETS TMOBILE 3G IN USA
January 17, 2011 ... I have 100% confirmation that UNLOCKED Dell Streak 5 currently being sold on dell.com will run 3G in the USA with a Tmobile SIM card. Aside from the new $399 price, this is great news for people who prefer Tmobile over AT&T. To avoid ANY confusion, I specifically asked and confirmed that the new unlocked Streak 5's are quadband (850/1900mhz for AT&T and 1700/2100mhz for Tmobile).
My Dell source noted that upon receiving the Streak 5, installing an existing Tmobile SIM card and upgrading from Android V1.6 to V2.2 (Froyo) you must go into Settings to turn the 3G feature ON. Upgrading from V1.6 to V2.2 is available over the air during first use ( see dell is advertising at http://configure.us.dell.com/dellst...&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&model_id=mobile-streak )
This information was provided to me on 1/17/2011 by Melinda at Dell Support 800-308-3355.
P.S. As a current Nexus One owner running Froyo that receives HSDPA+ on it (a/k/a 4G), I plan to report if I can also get 4G speeds when I receive my unlocked Streak 5 (due to be delivered to me by 2/8/2011).
From Dell's website on the Streak's specs page:
Bands
UMTS 2100 / 1900 / 850 MHz
GSM / EDGE 1900 / 1800 / 900 / 850 MHz
HSDPA / HSUPA:HSDPA 7.2 Mbps / HSUPA 5.76 Mbps

No 1700 MHz.
I hope you are correct, but I would think that they would update the info on their site?
I'm not too sure about that....
I just received my unlocked Dell Streak from Dell for my legacy ATT mMode sims which requires it to be unlocked in order to use. My neighbor has t-mobile so I asked if I can use her USA t-moblie to be the first one it sees.
Well, its been 10 mins and it keeps going in a reboot cycle. Looking to see how to reset the streak, if possible to stop the boot loop. I hope I dont have an DOA new Streak that took almost 1month to get.
Dell is really pissing me off now. It all started with me paying full price at bestbuy for one & att not wanting to release unlock code. so I took it back and purchased it from dell unlocked $50 cheaper.
Will keep you posted on the out come.
I think they lied to you. I don't see a place where you can change that unless its a secret menu or something.(I have an unlocked red one)
No go for 3g on tmobile
DELL lied to you my friend.
I did a factory reset to bypass the continuous boot loop. It runs on Edge with Tmobile usa sim. I tried doing the *#*#307#*#* to access the frequency menu like on 1.6 but since it was received with 2.2 it I get a PASSPORT needs to be on SD error and doesn't activate hidden settings.
On the 1.6 band/frequency 1700Mhz is missing. So all signs point to NO.
Will not get 3g on t-mobile. Sorry to burst your bubble

i tried talking to a "dell expert" on live chat about this but they didnt seem to know what i was talking about since they didnt know the difference between gsm and umts. they did say it would work on tmo but was confused when i said 2g or 3g. i highly doubt the streak will be the first quadband umts phone though, because if dell can do it, why isnt everyone else?

A carrier orders a phone built to their specs. Almost certain that a quadband phone would cost a little more then a dualband phone. No reason for TMO to offer a phone that would make it easier for their subscriber to bolt to AT&T when they start slacking on service. Just think of all the millions of iPhone people who would have left AT&T if they had quadband phones?
The only streaks that have tmobile 3g capabilities are the handful of beta streaks, from Dell's sponsored mile run, in Austin, Texas last summer. Those special streaks are loooong gone.
Just to confirm then, the Dell Streak 5 will only work with AT&T in the USA?
The US version will get 2g on all networks and 3g on At&t only
the AWS version will get 2g on all networks and 3g on TMO only
They apparently do actively manufacture AWS streaks (just in limited quantities in comparison to the US/EU models), but they dont advertise this fact and they wont sell you one directly. You have to find someone yourself.
My streak works fine on 3g and hdspa or whatever on vodafone in the uk, doesn't it work on all networks the same? I just bought mine off the dell website and whacked my sim in and away I went.
Most of europe has 2100mhz coverage, which all streaks support for 3g
Oh right I see, here was me thinking 3g was 3g the same everywhere :-\
I've got a Dell Streak 5 running on the T-Mobile network but the speed is HORRENDOUS! It feels like a 1200 baud modem all over again.
I must have the AWS version because mine runs pretty fast and shows 3g on the screen and a capital H neext to the signal bars.

I bought mine on Craigslist but the guy I got it from said he originally bought it from an importer who got it from Australia. Australian models have the 1700 band that allows you to get tmobile 3g. My baseband version is GAUSB1A135100-AWS. I believe the AUS means it's from Australia and the AWS I don't know whether that signifies anything or not. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than me can chime in.
And yes, I have tmobile. Great phone by the way. Love it much more than my EVO.

I bought a used N1 on eBay. I totally wasn't even thinking about the fact that there are different models of the phone for different carriers. Turns out I have the T-Mobile N1, but I have AT&T service currently.
I assume that there is no kind of mod/firmware to get it to use AT&T 3G, and that it's the hardware that limits me to T-Mo? Probably more than some custom firmware or something could fix?
That kind of sucks, if so. I doubt anyone would have an AT&T model, looking for a T-Mo model, eh?
Thanks for any help, if it's even possible..
Have you looked at the seller's return policy?
No returns accepted, as stated on the item page.
I can live with it (in remorse)..
The seller didn't mention what model it was at all, either.
I don't suppose Verizon uses the same bands as T-Mo?

No, they don't. T-Mobile and Verizon use totally different radio technologies.
Go onto the Marketplace forum on XDA, and trade/sell it through there.
Put your sim card in it
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Post it for sale locally on craigslist to finance a unit with the AT&T radio.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Also if you have trouble locating the AT&T compatible N1, you may also consider the Telus version of HTC Desire. Largely the same hardware, AT&T bands, but no Euro 2100 band.
Possible bonus: AT&T does not know the IMEI of Telus Androids, and might not force you to a higher cost smart phone data plan.
Thanks for your input, guys.
I'll try first to sell it locally via Craigslist.
I really think that it will be much more difficult
since they discontinued the Nexus One, and provided it through the developers only,
it has always been the T-Mobile version which is quite disappointing....
the AT&T version seem to just disappear from manufacturing all together
point I am trying to make is that it the AT&T version should be much rarer and possibly worth more on the market since there are less quantities of it
it sucks my friend I feel for you...
How is the T-Mobile N1 different from AT&T model?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Different radio frequencies and limited availability. Otherwise identical.

I've done the exact opposite...got myself an ATT N1 while on tmobile...hahaha
hahah. I've since sold my T-Mo N1 on eBay and bought an AT&T N1 from Craigslist.. got a sweet deal, too!
wait wait a sec

Yes, it will function on the network. The issue is that the radio hardware is built for specific frequencies, which differ between the T-Mobile and AT&T models.
You can use one phone on the other's network just fine as a phone, but you will be limited to 2G data speeds, as AT&T uses 850/1900MHz for their 3G data and T-Mobile uses 900 1700/2100MHz.
Umm, nobody uses 900 MHz for cellular in North America... that spectrum is not allocated for that purpose here.

You're right, my apologies. The fact of the matter (that the hardware is incompatible between the AT&T and T-Mobile networks) remains intact though.
Correct 3G data frequency information, as best I can make it out:
AT&T uses 850MHz and 1900MHz.
T-Mobile uses 1700MHz and 2100MHz.
900MHz and 2100MHz are used primarily in Europe; a phone made for European markets will have a better chance of being fully compatible with T-Mobile's network in the states based on sharing the 2100MHz band.
Closer but still not quite
Read up on the AWS band. European phones will not get T-Mobile 3G at all without 1700.
But in the specific case of the Nexus One, models sold in Europe do have AWS.

Ok guys the Dcomo SO-01c (japanese xperia) has been successfuly unlocked and working on the U.S 3G network
so you dont have to wait for SE USA or Rogers no more
the bands it uses are
GSM/GPRS/Edge 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS/HSPA bands 1/2/5/6
which is equivalent to 2100/1900/850/800
possibly WCDMA for verizon will work (correct me if i am wrong) which is a big positive on this japanese version , another positive is being available in three colors.
blue
pink
silver
the phone comes with a 16gb memory card
i ordered the pink color for someone and i will order a silver one for myself
so you dont have to wait for SE USA or Rogers no more
i am so glad that this has worked after so many people have doubted that it would work and been told not to waste my money.
i dont want to waste your time explaining my story on how i got the courage to risk trying one and how i found out it will work, but if you want to know i will gladly answer ur questions.
i found a japanese seller that happened to know some english and willing to help and luckily he had an ebay account.
he sold me the phone for $770 including superfast shipping. he said he could sell it to me for $720 on paypal but i chose ebay since it was my first time.
if you can find other sellers good luck . the phone at docomo is around $600 without shipping
i got called by FCC to fill a form and send it to them to be able to get cleared by customs which i did.
when i got the phone all i did was unlock it using ezSEMC and purchased 10 credits from a provider and took about 1 minute to unlock.
http://www.2shared.com/document/F9cAO3Z5/xperia_arc_unlock_instructions.html
it can also be unlocked via entering unlock code provided by cellunlocker.net($8) or other different sites
all you have to do is flash the LT15i rom or the Lt15a rom and you will be able to get the unlock code screen
user morita0107 has unlocked it by entering an unlock code after flashing the LT15 rom on it(same way as x10)
3G popped the moment i put the APN settings which i got help from nimche who has been a great deal of help and support. He has also uploaded the rom for the LT15a which i will flash later on.
download LT15a rom from here (thanks Nimche)

feel free to ask any questions . (Nimche can also answer if i get busy)
i have an ebay invoice up for grabs if anyone wants it for the black color
and i can contact the seller to prepare one for you if you want silver or pink
i have flashed the device with the LT15a rom and everything is working fine, even the Docomo logo in the begining dissappeared

You want Acro? It coming this summer but it is not as thin as arc... @ this point I won't want to lose this thinness to NFC and Infrared but phone is nice.

This is fantastic news.
However... just one question remains for me:
Bootloader. Are you carrier-locked or free as the air we breathe?
You'll need 1700 mhz to get 3G on Tmobile, which the Arc doesn't have. If you can live with edge only on Tmo then no prob. No manufacturer supports AWS (1700 mhz) unless it's a Tmo US phone.
WCDMA actually refers to GSM band 850/1900 (I think those are the frequencies), regardless it is a GSM distinction not what you think of in the US as CDMA. So no, it won't work on Verizon. Even if it was a CDMA device you'd still have to get VzW to allow it's ESN on their network and that's not easy, not saying it's impossible, just difficult.

That is entirely incorrect. DoCoMo uses SIM cards on all of their phones.
