I saw that HTC Sync 3 launched for a couple devices in Europe last week, namely the Desire & Wildfire. I'm wondering that since the Desire is virtually the same hardware as the Incredible if it will work for us. HTC Sync 3 adds iTunes synchronization and thats huge for me as I don't prefer the Doubletwist workaround. So I pose these questions;
has anybody tried it? if so does it work?
does anybody have a mirror to the software? I've tried the HTC site but it doesn't recognize the Incredible's serial number so it will not download.
Thanks in advance for the help.
i haven't tried it, but its reliant also on the PCSCII.apk and whether that supports it. I've heard reports it doesn't work with the Inc, but I have it downloaded somewhere so I guess I can try it out.
My bad. It works, at least for what I tried it with (wmp syncing).

Awesome, thanks Adrynalyne... I was able to sync all my photos and my music with my PC using the version you posted.
Absolute must have! Thanks!

Worked for me. At least it appears to have worked. I didn't get any errors. A picture of the Incredible actually pops up on the screen when connected to the device. I synced my music, and my contacts/calendar from Outlook 2007. Cool !
I can't speak to contacts/calendar/mail because i sync mine OTA with exchange, but it works beautifully for syncing music and other media. I honestly don't understand how HTC managed to go so long without releasing something like this.
Works Great!
Just intalled and it works great with my Inc.
Outlook, Itunes - this is awesome!
Seems to install and sync fine - except it can't see my sd card. Have I missed something?

Mine is a little funky with memory also-
The only thing it can see is my SD card - I dont see anywhere to change what it is looking at.
You can't. This version isn't specifically for the Dinc, so it doesn't have the ability. One would assume HTC will soon have a Dinc specific version out.
I don't care for Doubletwist either. I found TuneSync and it works perfect. Opens my iTunes I check what songs I want go to the app tell it what to sync done.

I was thinking the same thing as i refuse to register my device just to download sync software, it was not like this when i downloaded HTC_Sync_2.0.38 a few weeks ago, and i can download HTC_Sync_2.0.40 without registering a serial easily and use it with no issues, matter a fact i was using HTC_Sync_2.0.40 to sync my outlook and calender even before HTC_Sync_2.0.38 was released so why make us register the device?

Ok, after using this new version i must say that its a step backwards. I like the new GUI and all the eye candy and the ability to install .APK files but it lacks the basic functionality that the HTC_Sync_2.0.38 had.
For instance the old version told you at a glance the number of contacts in outlook and events on the outlook calender, where it is at during the contact syncing and calender syncing. It also gave you more advanced options on syncing.
On this new version Outlook must be set as you default mail client for it to connect with it which is completely bogus. On first connect the device synced on it own using the latest modified data which created duplicated in outlook and my phone, deleted the duplicates from my phone and tried to sync again and it completely wiped the data from outlook, i used the nandroid to restore the contacts to the phone and tried to sync again to get everything back where it was.
A bit angry with the music syncing. The files sync to /Music/ then the full file directory. so if you music is stored in c/:users/username/my documents/music you media wll be synced in the same structure /Music/c/users/username/my documents/music which is more complex than it needs to be. A simple music folder with music/Artist/album is sufficient. Then it took 1 hour to sync 3.8GB of music, that same 3.8 GB takes less than 15 if i remove the card from the device and put in in the card reader.
Long story shorty, im reverting back to HTC_Sync_2.0.40. Sometimes less is more.
Funny that now the new sync is no longer availble on HTC site and the link was changed back to HTC_Sync_2.0.38

Hmmm...
You probably want to get on the ball with finding this software as it really has been pulled from the site. Some people have upped the new version for download, so do a search, grab it while its hot and sit on it if you want to sideload with the software (without rooting).
Edit: You can grab it from this thread if you don't have it already

I downloaded this one, the one from HTC's site (before it was removed) and even tried the old version (.38) and NONE of them recognize my phone when I plug it in and tell the phone to use HTC Sync. The phone tries to find it running on my PC but can't. Any ideas? I'm running Win7 64.

My contacts are stored in Windows Contact Book(My Documents>Users>MYUSERNAME>Contacts) HTC Sync provided with DHD wouldn't copy them to my phone, so I just installed HTC Sync 2.xx from Legend/Hero and it worked.
It's a good point actually.
If you have your contacts in outlook, then when you install HTC Sync from the phone it will copy all your contact details to the phone automatically.
I learnt that the hard way by syncing with my work computer and having nearly 5000 contacts copied to my phone. I had to yank the power quickly and hard reset before it tried to sync it all to gmail!

OK, I'm a newb to Android so I'm not sure I understand what you're discussing here.
Should I install HTC Sync 3.0 from the HTC website or is there a better way to get it working? The Desire HD isn't (yet?) shown in the list of compatible handsets on the HTC website for that version.
On the included SD-cart there is the program HTC Sync 3.0. You can copy the file to your computer and install it there. Works fine and you can synchronise all the contacts in outlook.

I've imported my contacts already via Google so that bit is OK. Has anybody had success importing the calendar entries onto the Desire HD?
Edit: OK, I had a go and yes: it's synchronised the calendar entries. But only back a month. Is there a way to extend the range so that the whole calendar is synchronised?
Edit 2: I tried something else. I don't think HTC Sync will do what I want. I'm moving from Windows Mobile/Outlook to Google/Android so I figured I really only need a one-time synchronisation. I found that Google has their own sync tool:
http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=98563
It's not compatible with the version of Outlook I'm using (2002) so I found other software called CompanionLink:
http://www.companionlink.com/android/outlook/
They offer a free 14-day trial of their sync software with which I'm uploading my entire Outlook calendar to Google and it's syncing with my phone in front of me. That's all I needed - I don't think I want to sync my Outlook calendar in the future since I won't be using Windows Mobile again. Time will tell if I'm right.
i'm about to get my new desire HD from orange tomorrow and i thought i better ask for a little advice.
as i'm upgrading from a touch HD the android experience is totally new to me, so i was hoping for a few hints and tips as to how to get the best from my new phone and what apps are going to be most interesting.

I've recently done the same (moved from a Touch Pro2). Main differences over WM you will find....
* Improved stability
* Improved responsiveness and speed
* Android app market makes obtaining apps and wider range of apps much better
* Overall a much more pleasant experience to use
* Battery life will be worse, but you can tune the device to improve this a lot
* Integration with Microsoft products is not so great although does support multiple Exchange profiles
An HD2 immigrant here
First of all you need to get used to the different logic of the system. You probably had HTC Sense on ur touchHD and when you see that the Sence in DHD is similar it's a bit leading.
The hardest for me was getting used to the fact that the "All apps" button is not "Start" and just brings u to everything that's installed ( no rearangements, no folders, no renaming )
Then comes the battery life. DaveTME was right that it sucks, but thats (IMO) only do to the fact that by default, every service u have installed is syncing all the time. If u tweak ur sync settings a bit u should get close to what u had in THD.

This is exactly what I checked into before I made the jump from Nokia, where the Ovi Suite (PC Suite) would sync with Outlook. The HTC Sync SW supposedly does this but I had problems when I got the phone and, if you search about a bit, you'll find others have too.
What I did was to install HTC Sync anyway but also to install MyPhoneExplorer (... http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ ...). This installs on the PC and, as you surmised, on the phone. Works fine for me. I'm using XP Pro + Outlook 2000 (yeah, I know, behind the times but hey .... it all works!). MPE also has a forum where the developer is pretty responsive to issues.
I also sunc the calendars but use Gemini Calendar on the HD (search and ye shall find ... ). Much better than stock.
HTH.
Oh, and remember that Android is Google, which means they intend you to sync through the *cloud* and not to your PC. Especially with Microsoft's products, which is why you need to go 3rd party. When you get your DHD, before you do anything else, go into the menus and put everything on manual sync until you know what's happening. Or you'll end up with Facebook, Google and Uncle Tom Cobbly's contacts all on your phone ...
Download the manual from here .... http://www.htc.com/www/userguide.aspx?p_id=324 ...

OiFilemanager or AndExplorer should both do the job
another quick question, and i know this will sound totally dumb, but i have to ask.
do i NEED an google account to use this thing properly??
i dont use facebook or twitter or any other social media, so i'm happy to sync with outlook as its got all my contacts in up to date, and to be honest i'd rather not give google any more of my personal details thani have to!
Yes you need a google account. Aslo you can import your contacts into your google account and sync it to your phone.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You do need a google account, but to be honest that is a good thing, the integration with Googles services is so tight. It provides the best email experience by a LONG way in my opinion, and the cloud features are fantastic.
Since switching to android i have also switched to a more "cloud" centric workspace, all my work is backed up to a cloud (2 actually!) and i keep copies of everything i need online aswell as on my PC so i can access it anywhere.
Its a shame you dont want to "submit" to google if you know what i mean, gmail is so, so slick.
*Spooky voice* It is the futuuuure!
I hope you enjoy your switch to android, i know i did!

unfortunatly i have an inherant distrust of "the cloud"

I'm with you on this one! You do have to set-up a Google email account BUT mine is just forwarded to my *real* email address so never use it for anything. I *assume* you may need it to buy apps. from the market but I've only downloaded free ones so far. Oh, it's *compulsory* to download Angry Birds, BTW, free on Android ...

How can sync my Outlook infos with Google Calendar and Contacts?
Get a gmail account, best out there. Just don't save your contacts to gmail. I got hacked from China and everyone on my email list got a virus infested email. Lucky I found out very quickly and told everyone before any damage was done.
As to sync. I just use HTC Sync downloaded from HTC web site. Works a treat

Hi.
I have setup HTC Sync to sync a folder over to my DHD. However I found syncing files to be a bit quirky.
Docs created on the device are not synced to the PC, only the other way round.
Docs deleted on the device are not deleted on the PC, only the other way round. The doc that remains on the PC needs to be modified in order to sync back to the device - seems there is some sort of cache.
Is the above a bug of HTC Sync and is happening to other persons? Is to possible to get file synching as one would expect it to be, i.e. as I was accustomed through Activesync and Windows Mobile 6.5?
Thanks.
Bump...any feedback?
Is it possible that I am the only one to experience this issue? Any feedback from other users and possibly also help?
I'm beginning to think that I am the only one to use and experience this.
OK, perhaps it's not a high priority but nevertheless quite an annoyance considering the thing worked perfectly for years in Windows Mobile and Activesync.
I'd advise you to try MyPhoneExplorer.

Thanks. I'll check that out. Do you know if MyPhoneExplorer offers two-way sync with the DHD?
Back to my original problem I have since received feedback from HTC Support. They are claiming that HTC Sync offers a choice on the sync direction, either to the PC or to the DHD. I was not offered this choice when I installed HTC Sync on the PC and neither when connecting the DHD to the PC for the first time. To be sure of this I installed HTC Sync on a second PC and connected the DHD to this second PC. Again, no choice was ever offered.
I have written back asking for proof of this sync choice offer and will post back here any feedback received. In any case I have told HTC Support that if indeed HTC Sync only offeres one-way sync then it is indeed only a half-baked solution.

I got the same problem.
Did you ever find a solution besides MyPhoneExplorer?
I'm still corresponding, sort of, with HTC. My support request was routed to HTC Italy who asked me to rewrite the request in Italian. Fortunately that was not a problem for me.
Since then there has been much to-and-fro between me and HTC with them asking me to do things that had nothing whatsoever to do with my problem. As an example they kept asking me questions as to the version of Outlook I have even though I am not syncing any contacts or calendar. They even asked me to if my problem was if I could not install HTC Sync, and another time said that one-way sync is all that HTC Sync was and during installation of the latter on the PC one is asked in which direction should the one-way sync work. All this is quite a load.
In my last communucation a couple of days ago I asked them for a clear explanation and solution, failing which I will escalae the matter through other HTC channels.
EDIT: I have not installed or tried to use MyPhoneExplorer. I expect the matter to be resolved by HTC and MyPhoneExplorer is only a last resort.
Thanks Leon.
It looks like they giving you the run around.
Keep me posted if you come right.
I will let you know if I find a solution.
thanks again

Yes, but then still no reason for HTC to look the other way and hope the problem, or I, disappear.
It has been a while since i started using android on my HD2 (july 10) and a lot of beatiful things have happened thanx to the developers.
There is still one simple thing i cannot manage to solve :
SYNCING via USB tasks without paying
1) i don't want to send my appointments and task to a server in order to sync them, i like privacy
2) I don't like to pay , i prefer to donate...
Is there a valid solution out there?
I use Linux (at home-Evolution) and Windows (at work-outlook)
I need to sync Linux-Android-WM-Outlook and i prefer to do it by USB cable (or BT or Wi-Fi, but not via external server).
Please let me know which SW you use for contacts and appointments (I use Myphoneexplorer at the time, but any piece of advice is welcome) and, above all, if something to sync TASKS exists (GOATS could be an answer, but no widget...)
Hope this is the right place to post this...

@PSH
Look at the link in my post before. There you have an overview over the different free & payed sync solutions. But i think at the moment there exist no "definitive" Sync Solution which covers all functions properly. So you have to decide which solution fits best to your whishes...
