It has been a while since i started using android on my HD2 (july 10) and a lot of beatiful things have happened thanx to the developers.
There is still one simple thing i cannot manage to solve :
SYNCING via USB tasks without paying
1) i don't want to send my appointments and task to a server in order to sync them, i like privacy
2) I don't like to pay , i prefer to donate...
Is there a valid solution out there?
I use Linux (at home-Evolution) and Windows (at work-outlook)
I need to sync Linux-Android-WM-Outlook and i prefer to do it by USB cable (or BT or Wi-Fi, but not via external server).
Please let me know which SW you use for contacts and appointments (I use Myphoneexplorer at the time, but any piece of advice is welcome) and, above all, if something to sync TASKS exists (GOATS could be an answer, but no widget...)
Hope this is the right place to post this...
Look at this. Syncroid might be what you are looking for. i´ve read about it but i haven´t android on my HD2(yet).

that are the most important things for me.
Only GOATS seems to work, but it does not have a widget, and this is annoying.
Thank you for the try.

I already postet that on another Thread but i Think the best and free Tool to Sync in Two Ways ist Android-Sync.
Its still Pre Alpha but works realy good for me. U dont need to pay and dont need to install something on the phone. Its like Active Sync for Android
Not sure if I'm missing something here, but I'm using HTC Sync (for the Wildfire) to sync all my Outlook stuff (running on Windows 7) with my HD2 over USB.

For me this is working great.

Yes, that's correct.
I'm now using a Nexus (gingerbread) based rom and I cannot sync with HTC sync.
I'm also looking for a sync solution.
@PSH
Look at the link in my post before. There you have an overview over the different free & payed sync solutions. But i think at the moment there exist no "definitive" Sync Solution which covers all functions properly. So you have to decide which solution fits best to your whishes...

Hi there,
I am using a Blue Angel with WinMobile6, ROM 6.01.03.HBB and Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5.
The Software won't sync the outlook notes. I cannot check the box for notes in the setup neither on the device nor on the PC. Notes are in the list for sync options, but they are greyed out.
Does anyone have any ideas about this?
Thanks and Best Regards,

I might be wrong, but look into this. If you don't have a valid license of MS Office installed on your PC or you don't have the WM CD that came with the phone, You might not be able to sync notes... and I believe you shouldn't be able to sync contacts either. Do a search on XDA for Sync problems. Good Luck
also you may try to contact the creator of the rom for issues
are you using outlook 2003 or 2007?
Please Help
Im haveing Sync Issues
TaskFacade giving me Problems
How can i Uninstall this program
by what name is it in the Remove me List ?
or
Is this my imagination ?
then what could be my Sync Issue
I have Att Fuze
I have Outlook 2007
Vista Ultimate 64
i don't know about taskfacade, but i do know about vista64 and outlook 2007, and i could maybe help you, if you had a blueangel, but with the fuze you are definetly in the wrong section here, plus the version of the windows mobile device center would be interesting and what exactly is your sync issue.
- does it not detect the device?
- does it detect but give a red X?
- does it not sync all the elements it is supposed to?
- does it not work with exchange?
- is it just slow?
and for all that it would be important to know the rom on your device. not just you posting it here, people who might be able to answer that also need to know the rom, and that would be my problem here. but if you run a build 21725 or 23001/23003, the sync issue is well known for all the devices and if that is important to you, keeping it connected and synced, you should maybe revert to a previous build, or just try again in the fuze section

Hi Guys,
Its my first step in Android world. I have been using Windows Mobile since last 5 years (Currently HTC tytn II). I am very impressed with HTC Hero promos and customization. But before I move to Android world and buy this phone, it would be very helpful if any of you can provide answers to my following queries. Apologies, as it may be very basic questions for you but these functionalities very necessary for me as I use almost every day in my Windows phone.
Question for Android (HTC Hero)-
1. Can I sync Outlook address and calendar Android (HTC Hero)?
2. Can I open/edit word, excel and power point presentations? (If yes then does it come by default with phone like I got it with my HTC tytnII)
3. I need navigation software. (I saw one is available here http://www.alk.eu.com/. is there any other for Android like i use TomTom in my phone).
4. Any email client where i can configure Pop3, Imap or company microsoft exchange server.
5. Voice chat messengers (like i use fring(www.fring.com) for my windows phone)
Thanks in advance.
Jit
Hello there
Welcome to Android world. I don't know so much about android till now. But if you search the forum you can get all your question answered. I'm trying to help you from my little knowledge.
1. You can sync your contacts and their information from outlook.
2. HTC Hero has Quickoffice. So, I think you should be able to open/edit word, excell or powerpoint docs.
3. You can use AndNav2 for your navigation. The software is free in the Market.
4. Yes, you can configure your e-mail clients.
5. I haven't got any voice messaging service till now for android.
Hope these helps. If you have any other questions first try to search the forum .
Thanks.
there are tons of free IM apps out there.
1) Meebo (the best one)
2) eBuddy
3) IM+ (not free)
4) HelloYm, HelloAim, HelloMSN
5) IM app (built in android)
pda_crazy, as you have a HTC Tytn II, have a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396782 and try Android for yourself. The latest build for Kaiser/Tytn II is from the Google Ion (HTC Magic) rather than the Hero, so the Sense UI is not present. Also, wi-fi, camera and bluetooth are not working, but GPS, Android Market and Google sync are. It may require some tweaking to get the best experience on the Tytn II as different versions of the phone seem to have particular issues with calls and/or data but I am running it on my UK Kaiser (MDA Vario III) at the moment and have calls, sms, sync, Android Market and GPS working fine. Battery life is a bit of an issue, but if you can get it working it will give you a chance to download and try out a variety of Android applications before paying for an Android phone.
not so simple
I have a hero. The quick office can only open word docs, have trouble with excel . It will not edit. You can sync outlook contacts and calendar . I could make a gmail account on it but not yahoo so far. Still looking for a good explorer software in which I can keep stuff where I want. Any suggestions ?

DocumentsToGo is pretty much the only app for editing doc and xls on android. If you want a file explorer both 'Astro' and 'Linda File Manager' are good.

Hi there!
As I'm currently a Windows mobile user about to take the step over to Hero I just want to make sure that I can use my Hero at work as well.
Today I sync my work contacts and work calendar with outlook using active sync.
When syncing I don't have to enter any information at all, the sync sets up automatically. Does HTC sync work in the same way!?
Do you have to set up the HTC sync by entering server names and stuff like that, or is it just like active sync that everything is automatical!?
All answers are apreciated!

I am so lazy, i ask here, so i did not start new thread.
Few days still and i get Dream again.
The ROM in it si some Hero thing. Isn´t that mean Dream is rooted and HardSpl in it? I can go and put Cyanogens ROM in it? If i understand it right, you can´t put any other ROM in unless you first put HSpl and root?
Sorry my bad english, hope someone catch what i mean...
Edit: Root and HardSpl ok, so now Cyan and works great...
Hello Guys!
First of all: Excuse my English, I'll try my best
Well, since yesterday I'm a proud owner of a HD2 and I'm slowly trying to get
everything fitted to my needs
I installed CHT, SecureW2 for WPA2-Enterpise access and so on, also my e-mail stuff works fine.
But I'm not able to find out if its possible to make my phone use my ical calendar file which I've stored on icalx.com.
This file is used by my laptop and desktop PC as well, but i do not really want to synchronize with Thunderbird Lightning all the time, I just want my HD2 to use the published file as well so that it is always up to date, so that i do not need to synchronize it every day.
Anyone knows if there a way to do that?
(I'm really sorry if I missed something similar using the search fuction, I only found problems related to syncing with thunderbird)
Oo falling off the first page goes pretty quick here!
Anyways...another question i have is: Is HTC Calender an application itself or is it just a graphical interface for the outlook calendar? I mean Outlook should be able to ready .ics or am I wrong here?
as theer are more users online now...I'll give it a last try.
Is there really nobody who has tried this before? I always had the impression that this is a common way to sync ones calendars

First of all: Your English is excellent!
And concerning your question: Have your read this thread? I'm not sure if it is what you are looking for. Also, I found this, which looks promising as well.
EDIT: LOL - this is a featured article on the xda-developers front page today: http://www.xda-developers.com/windows-mobile/icalendar-appointmentstasks-icalparse/ What a coincidence?
this is really LOL!
But thanks a lot, I'm already trying it out and despite a minor bug it seems to work quiet well!
Hi.
I have setup HTC Sync to sync a folder over to my DHD. However I found syncing files to be a bit quirky.
Docs created on the device are not synced to the PC, only the other way round.
Docs deleted on the device are not deleted on the PC, only the other way round. The doc that remains on the PC needs to be modified in order to sync back to the device - seems there is some sort of cache.
Is the above a bug of HTC Sync and is happening to other persons? Is to possible to get file synching as one would expect it to be, i.e. as I was accustomed through Activesync and Windows Mobile 6.5?
Thanks.
Bump...any feedback?
Is it possible that I am the only one to experience this issue? Any feedback from other users and possibly also help?
I'm beginning to think that I am the only one to use and experience this.
OK, perhaps it's not a high priority but nevertheless quite an annoyance considering the thing worked perfectly for years in Windows Mobile and Activesync.
I'd advise you to try MyPhoneExplorer.

Thanks. I'll check that out. Do you know if MyPhoneExplorer offers two-way sync with the DHD?
Back to my original problem I have since received feedback from HTC Support. They are claiming that HTC Sync offers a choice on the sync direction, either to the PC or to the DHD. I was not offered this choice when I installed HTC Sync on the PC and neither when connecting the DHD to the PC for the first time. To be sure of this I installed HTC Sync on a second PC and connected the DHD to this second PC. Again, no choice was ever offered.
I have written back asking for proof of this sync choice offer and will post back here any feedback received. In any case I have told HTC Support that if indeed HTC Sync only offeres one-way sync then it is indeed only a half-baked solution.

I got the same problem.
Did you ever find a solution besides MyPhoneExplorer?
I'm still corresponding, sort of, with HTC. My support request was routed to HTC Italy who asked me to rewrite the request in Italian. Fortunately that was not a problem for me.
Since then there has been much to-and-fro between me and HTC with them asking me to do things that had nothing whatsoever to do with my problem. As an example they kept asking me questions as to the version of Outlook I have even though I am not syncing any contacts or calendar. They even asked me to if my problem was if I could not install HTC Sync, and another time said that one-way sync is all that HTC Sync was and during installation of the latter on the PC one is asked in which direction should the one-way sync work. All this is quite a load.
In my last communucation a couple of days ago I asked them for a clear explanation and solution, failing which I will escalae the matter through other HTC channels.
EDIT: I have not installed or tried to use MyPhoneExplorer. I expect the matter to be resolved by HTC and MyPhoneExplorer is only a last resort.
Thanks Leon.
It looks like they giving you the run around.
Keep me posted if you come right.
I will let you know if I find a solution.
thanks again

Yes, but then still no reason for HTC to look the other way and hope the problem, or I, disappear.
Hi,
I am not sure if someone else asked this question. I updated my phone to Nand Gingerbread. Everything works great. However, the major problem I am having is that HTC Sync (on Win7 laptop) does not recognize the device.
In the previous Android (2.2), when we used to connect it to the PC, many options would appear to identify the type of the connection. One of those options was "HTC Sync". Choosing this option used to allow HTC Sync software on the windows pc to recognize the device and sync its contents.
However, in Gingerbread I cannot find anyway to connect my HD2 in a "sync" mode in order to allow HTC Sync to recognize it.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
htc sync requires htc sense.

It works with your dilema and you'll be back to syncing:

ooo good find, i looked high and low for an outlook sync solution, cant believe i missed this.
it also seems to include the adb usb drivers, so perhaps this could be installed instead of the whole android sdk for the adb drivers....

Thank you so much. This application seems very useful.
Anyways, my problem is that before I flash my HD2 to Gingerbread, I had Froyo Sense, and I synchronized all my contacts to HTC Sync on my PC, and now after I flashed I found that I cannot get those contacts back...
So I guess my only solution is to flash back to Froyo Sense, get those contacts, sync them using MyPhoneExplorer, and then Flash again to Gingerbread.
Thanks for the help everybody.

HTC Sync uses outlook, you need to look in the setting in the app, you can re-sync your outlook contacts with this program. Thats what its meant for also.

You have to install the tool on your win7 from here.
After that install My Phone Explorer Client from the Market. Connect your phone via WLAN or USB and start the Client on the phone. After that start the app from your win7 and set up your sync source (Outlook/Windows Contacts/Gmail/only MyPhoneExplorer) in settings or via new phone assistent.
You can now sync Contacts/Appointments/SMS/Files/Tasks and Notes (new with separate phone app).
It's the first sync solution where you can sync outlook tasks and notes, I love the tool.
